Considered the most destructive river flooding in U.S. history, “The Great Flood of 1927” inspired Mississippi natives, Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie, to write and record “When the Levee Breaks” in 1929. This flood helped cause "The Great Migration"; when thousands of black people left the South, and moved up North for better jobs, housing, lives, etc. Led Zeppelin made this Version in 1971. I remember when my cousins bought the Album. Brings back great memories.
He's playing the harmonica through a guitar amp and that gives it that crazy wailing sound. Plus he's just good at it. That's Robert, the singer, playing it.
They recorded this in an old country villa. They put the drums at the bottom of a multi level stairwell and mounted microphones on several levels in the stairwell. There's a video about Zeppelin and especially this songs drums influenced the sound of Hip Hop.
The first concert I ever attended was Led Zeppelin at the old Fulton County Stadium in Atl in the mid 70's. My older brother snuck me away from home and opened my eyes to great music. Robert Plant is extremely versatile, he recently toured and recorded with country/folk/bluegrass artist Alison Krauss, even winning a Grammy for their colab album.
Next Led Zeppelin - Kashmir, Going to California and Battle of Evermore. Edit: We used to smoke weed and listen to LZ which made it feel and sound ethereal, sublime and unearthly. What a time to be alive and we didn’t even know it then. It’s true that youth is wasted on the young. 😂😂
Swampy sound of the delta …. Ah-- the 70’s were grand-we could hardly wait for each new album to be released. Music was not instantly at our fingertips like today. You bought the album or had to wait and hope you caught it on the radio.
YAY!!! Plant on Harmonica ONE of the BEST songs (but to me they ALL are) **My Most Favorite Led Zeppelin Song Is The One I Am Listening To At Any Given Moment** OH & ya should def check out the version of "When The Levee Breaks" by a project called **Playing For Change** this one includes **John Paul Jones** there are also many other cover songs that project has as well & a bunch of well known other various musicians it is really quite beautiful hope ya will decide to react to it at some point **Happy Holidays To You** **PixieTwirls**
A number of songs by Led Zeppelin were the reworking of old blues standards by the likes of Robert Johnson and, in this case, Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie or they contained snippets of old blues songs. Led Zeppelin often failed to give writing credit for those old blues songs to the original composers. For example, Willie Dixon sued the band in 1985 for use of his "You Need Love" in Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" and won, receiving writing credit on subsequent releases of the latter song and an undisclosed amount of money. A similar suit for use of "Killing Floor" by Howlin' Wolf used in Led Zeppelin's "Lemon Song" was settled and Howlin' Wolf received some royalty payments and a co-writer song credit.
What are you talking about…he sounds different every time? He sounds like Robert to me, his harp playing is masterful! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Dude you trippin, maybe take it easy with the booze!🤨
Robert Plant on killer harmonica and killer vocals!
That's one of the best things about Zep, no two songs sound the same. They are like a box of chocolates and in a genre of their own

Now you know how the rest of us felt the first time we heard this.

Kashmir, studio version, next!! You won't regret it. You'll be absolutely floored.
Great reaction Ace 👏👏👏 Love Led Zeppelin ☮️
Thank you so much Linda. 😁😁😁
@@AceTheHeart you are so sweet, love watching you discover music for the first time 😎
This was written by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929.
Yes, Robert Plant (singer) on harmonica. And how 'bout those drums?
Great reaction. If you like this drum groove try "Nobody's Fault But Mine". Bonham kills it.
if you like the harmonic try 'bring it on home'
No Quarter By Led Zeppelin. Note No quarter means to show or give no mercy

A blues song about a real flood that Led Zepp took to another level. Bonzo and JPJ are the stars of this song with that driving rhythm.
Long song? Jethro Tull's studio version of Thick As A Brick. It's 44 minutes.
For shorter songs, try YES. Many of their songs run from 9 to 23 minutes!...and not a wasted note in any of them.
My favorite Led. CRANK it.
The drum beat that launched a thousand samples. What a beast of a track!
Next Led Zeppelin - Kashmir, Going to California and Battle of Evermore.

Playing for Change does this song
...and used to perfection in Ben Affleck's ARGO. Kudos to the person responsible for thinking of that tune for that scene.
Hypnotizing
Definitely a whiskey sipping song 🥃
This is a great cover of an old Delta Blues tune.
That kick drum pattern ... where the blues meets the funk!
Love that ending.
Great song ❤
Of course he sounds different every time; these were the days before cut-and-paste recording.
Hard to beat this.
You are one of the very few people to recognize that that is Robert Plant's harmonica.
Love this tune. Jolted to saying so by the lyrics. Cryin' won't help ya, prayin' won't do ya no good. Powerful. Lets all go to Chi ca go?
Cryin' won't help ya, cryin' won't do ya no good...
Uh oh Ace, the Doors LA woman, and Zepplin Levee breaks, all in one day?!..better have Aspirin and red beer ready tomorrow morning! 😂

Ace, I think you're right! Whiskey is a better choice for this song. Personally, I'm having a beer!
So many more great songs by them. Drum solo Madison Square Gardens Moby Dick, it’s about 15 minutes long, shows Bonham’s talent.
Can somebody give the drummer some Love? I hear he's pretty good. I Also hear they never Mic'd his drum set. Hmmm?
Zebra -"Tell Me What You Want" 🔥🔥🔥

"Great" long songs by Led Zeppelin... try "Kashmir" and "Achilles' Last Stand."
Yes, that is one nasty harmonica.

this is a cover song they made their Owen
Good analysis--it does sound very sexy.
I was there. The song doesn't do it justice
Just The Once by Metric, music video request plz ❤😊
Or drink irresponsibly. Just don't drive.
No synths on this track, Zep rarely used them.
He has no sense of rhythm,
HE'S DEAD!!!
He can't feel the backbeat😮
