I left the Assemblies of God church because it was so fake, so loud, so emotionally driven, I could not find God in that church. I then read the catechism of the Catholic Church and literally walked across the street to a Catholic Church. So disappointed that my Catholic Church started to look like the Assemblies of God church I left. Praise God I Finally found the TLM.
Ok, so you just wanted a "quiet" church? Ok got it.

The first part of my life was in the Assembly of God. I converted to Catholicism at 14 through my step-father. Like a dog going back to its vomit...I went back to Evangelicalism. 30 years later, I've reverted back to Catholicism and the SSPX TLM. I can truly say God rescued me twice and I'll never take that for granted.
That’s awesome! SSPX does help tremendously. Great organization.
Love the SSPX! They have been like an oasis in a desert for my family and I.

As a Catholic Priest for the last 25 years, I would say that we need to pray for wisdom in this discussion. I think when we start our history of discussing the charisms/gifts that the Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity may want to use in and through the Body of Christ that we risk throwing the baby out with the dirty water, when we start with Protestants only from about 150 years ago. We can go to extremes on either side. We would do well, obviously, to avoid heresies and false teachings and bad apples. We would also honor God by studying the charisms in the writings of the Apostles and the Early Church Fathers. We should desire to be empowered and strengthened and gifted by the Holy Spirit if we are going to be holy and effective witnesses in our lives to lead others to Jesus, Our King. Does the Holy Spirit desire that each believer is on fire and filled with Him and His Gifts? Yes. I think bashing some heretics and a “renewal movement”without calling Catholics to an authentic renewal and rekindling of His Gifts is also dangerous, theologically. May we “desire the spiritual gifts,” as St. Paul reminds us, but also “test the spirits.” When we throw the baby out with the bath water or go to theological extremes, we are likely to miss whatever the Holy Spirit may want to do through us today to benefit His People. May Our Father give us His Wisdom in this discussion so that it pleases Him and leads to His Will being done in our lives today. As we approach the Feast of Pentecost, may we not hinder the desires of the Holy Spirit, His Gifts (both sanctification and charism) and His Fire. May we be renewed in His Gifts for our own salvation/sanctification AND the benefit of others (charisms). Most Holy Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, pray for us. Amen
^
"I think bashing some heretics and a “renewal movement”without...is also dangerous."
Well, I think that if you personally were included in the 'heretics' and the renewal movement he was bashing, and not only your public reputation but your priestly ministry were at stake, you would want to back it up to the very beginning of his rant in order to fully examine and expose the many logical fallacies involved in him arriving at his anathemas.
I would also inquire as to what authority he holds, or thinks he holds, in the Church. Can a layman anathematize people by posting a video? What recourse do you recommend? Does contacting such a person's bishop ever do any good?
Dr. Ralph Martin seems to have been singled out as a target in this hit piece. Since he is a public figure and makes a living from the Church by teaching at a seminary, doing conferences, etc., what are his legal and ecclesiastical rights here? An infinitesimally brief video clip was shown of him saying one sentence in isolation (imagine someone doing this to you) without any background or context given. And he was impugned as a 'heretic' yet without showing ANY evidence that he either said anything heretical or holds to any heresy. Furthermore, there is no particular heresy that the publisher of this video could name! He named a whole raft of them, saying, "another heresy...another heresy...yet another heresy....oh, look, another heresy," after which he then ADMITTED, "Now, if you ask any charismatic if they believe these, they will say no." What the hell is that? This man can falsely accuse, and even laugh about it as he spews out the name of one heresy after another after another, implying all along that all these heresies are believed or taught by the Renewal, and then say, of course, well, no one actually believes or teaches all of the GARBAGE I just listed, but nevertheless they are heretics 'cause I said so!
As a priest, I would beg you in this case to issue a strong correction aimed at the publisher of this video and say a few words about the seriousness of the sins of gossip, slander, libel, detraction, etc. Are not they all serious sins and say more about the state of the accuser than his intended victims?
@@MillionthUsernameI apologize. I only watched about 1/3 of the video before I commented because I had to drive to my mission church to offer the Sacrifice of the Mass. I just finished watching the entire video. I would never include Dr. Ralph Martin in a list of “heretics!” I believe that he is a living Saint and that one day he may be officially canonized by the Church. I like Kennedy, in general, especially on things about the Blessed Virgin Mary, but he is in error here. His quote from Ralph Martin didn’t even logically follow the quote from before and its context. Dr. Martin said that Jesus’ baptizes us in the Holy Spirit. Anyway, I have heard Dr. Martin speak, I have read his books. He is absolutely not a false teacher. He’s an anointed teacher. Kennedy mentioned that he didn’t and doesn’t want to offend anyone. That’s nice. But, if I were Mr. Kennedy, I would be scared about offending the Holy Spirit. He appears to be quenching the Fire of the Holy Spirit. Yes, we need sound theology and pastoring. But, we also need to be “traditional.” Part of the Church’s Tradition is that the entire Body of Christ is anointed by the Holy Spirit. A good leader is going to rally all those on the battlefield. Are only the officers in the Army of God equipped for battle? The powers associated with ordained ministry is based on a Greek word (exousia) It’s a permanent faculty given to them from their office, Holy Orders. Other people in the Church Militant can be given gifts based on “dunamis” (same root word for dynamite). The charisms listed in 1 Corinthians 12 are examples. Can lay people have a gift of healing from the Holy Spirit? Absolutely. The history of the Church is evidence. Once again, if someone is a true “traditionalist,” our traditions need to include the charisms of the Holy Spirit. St. Augustine thought the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit were only for the staring of the Church in the beginning. He was corrected by St. Ambrose. St. Ambrose invited him to a “prayer meeting” at the Cathedral where the gifts/charisms were manifesting among his parishioners. St. Augustine changed his mind. I pray for all Christians to join the One, True, Holy Catholic Church. I pray that we all get on the same page theologically. I also pray for those who are “Catholic,” to be careful that they don’t offend the Holy Spirit by quenching and discouraging the Gifts that He wants to give and use through the Body of Christ. To publicly disparage the theological character of Dr. Ralph Martin is not just false but sinful. Dr. Ralph Martin is a son of the Church. He would be the first one to rebuke Adoptionism and any heresy. Mr. Kennedy, you have not done your homework.

@@bigtobacco1098 I love how you move between Protestant and Catholic channels just to argue about the Charismata. Sorry dude, its already in the Catholic Church. See ya. Bye.
I attend TLM, but I think that the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of our separated brethren is not for us lay people to JUDGE. We can and should discern the spirits through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. So yes we should discern, but even here there are problems w talking about “Protestants in error”: unlike Catholics, one person may write in stone something that is heretical, but the next person who follows that first person, may change things to the point of being correct. Talking about what a certain group of Protestants truly believe is like trying to nail jello to the wall. Also, sometimes Protestants use words and CONCEPTS that Catholics understand with a different meaning and nuances. So, while you may be correctly discerning some heretical writings and statements by certain persons representing a specific group, the NATURE OF PROTESTANTISM is so individualistic that i believe you are in error in proclaiming ALL of them heretics. You are an apologist - an excellent one, by the way, but it is not your place to be declaring people heretics. You can say their words, writings and expressions are heretical, but please don’t call people heretics. That is not your place , it is judgmental. That is left to God through the bishops or priest. Words matter. It is good to hear about the errors of heretical teaching. … okay I did hear you say not all Charismatics are heretics, but you have given that impression. Please be careful and charitable. I appreciate hearing about the errors and why they are errors, but I guess your judgmental attitude seems uncharitable.
Was associated with Charismatics For about 3 years. I firmly believe Our Lord moved me away from it for my good. Yes there some wonderful people in it.
Thank you Kennedy...I'm a cradle Catholic ...did the life in the spirit seminar back in 1996....hands were laid on me and I got the 'gift of tongues' ...I stopped a year later...it never felt right to me...as if I was speaking gibberish...and yet we got rid of Latin in our masses? I say the rosary in Latin daily now for the last 4 years. We have no traditional Latin masses here unfortunately in the Caribbean.
I was taken to an Adoration/Healing Mass once. Why people were coming up to me asking if they could lay hands on me while our Lord was exposed…. So wrong! Some may have wanted to cure me of ‘my anger’ as I told them to not touch me!

My mother and 2 sisters dabbled in the Charismatic movement in the 70 and 80s. It was extremely harmful to my sisters, one of whom now practices Raki, left the faith and another who literally went insane and ended up homeless. I attended a session one time where people "fainted" at the laying of hands and thought to myself that this was a load of baloney. I never believed in that movement and think it's demonic. Many apparition chasers, especially Medjugorge, seem to have fallen for this nonsense. I saw the so-called speaking in tongues on demand and thought it was absurd.
I'm sorry about your sisters. Check out Ascent of Mount Carmel on charismatic renewal.

No one in my family goes to Catholic Church anymore. A few go to non-denominational rock band churches or watch NO mass on TV though. Very sad, I pray and take actions to get my family to come with me to Latin Mass someday. Maybe they will have a reconversion like I did.
I am also sure that Fr Ripperger said the "praying in tongues" of the so-called charismatics can attract demons.
Yes.
Speaking in 'tongues' is a classic symptom of demonic possession.
He did not say that. He said some people that are speaking in tongue are speaking demonic languages. Not all speaking in tongue is of the demonic. It is a gift of the holy Spirit.
@@erinkendrick2342Correct. And the moment one starts saying "This part of the NT is not for today", this part isn't either, you end up like John MacArthur pertaining to the other gifts such as miracles, prophecy, etc, exhibited in the lives of many saints throughout the millenia.
What does that mean when someone is speaking in tongues, what is that?
Babbling. Jibberish. One of my grandsons went on a retreat and told me he spoke in “ tongues”. I asked him- what did you say. He relied I don’t know ; now a few years later at age 19 he has left home in defiance and is embracing an lgbt philosophy.
I lived in Ann Arbor in 1967 when the Charismatic movement began in our parish. It came around the same time the "spirit" of Vat II was already dividing the parish. The protestant influence was seen as adding more dissension against Catholic tradition. That has been changing over time & we should seek unity in essentials.
Seeking an emotional experience & expressionism is not the purpose of prayer.
St. Paul spoke of the Church in his time (when they would come together) would sing "Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs". What sort of outlet or church service, which would be separate from the Mass no doubt, do you recommend could be set up for pious, emotional people?

I am dismayed to see cradle Catholics unknowingly dabbling in new age practices and I keep trying to warn people about new age practices hoping they will make the connection that it is not the truth.
"This laying on of hands, healing, speaking in tongues, and other charisms is rampant."
These are part of the Christian life, not New Age practices. Spend some time reading the New Testament.
I knew someone who got sucked into this. She had teenagers and felt adrift, then someone took her to one of these “services.” She went to Medj in the wake of it, and heard growling noises while in a crowd during one of the “seers” visions and misinterpreted this as evil spirits being driven out. After a few years of trips back and forth she and her husband were almost bankrupt. She took her kids college fund for trips there, and eventually took out a second mortgage without telling her husband to buy another ticket to “feel the spirit” yet again. These are the fruits. She’s institutionalized now. She completely lost her mind.

Isn’t speaking in tongues supposed to be, you speak in a language you do not speak or know, but the person your are talking with about your Catholic Christianity does not speak your language but you miraculously can speak in theirs.
It is not babbling to the air during a schismatic Protestant service.
You have to have a person in front of you that will understand the Language you are given the grace to speak by the Holy Spirit, that they will understand it.
As the conversions were done by St. Peter after Jesus ascended. They spoke to many people with different languages who could understand what the Apostles were preaching to them, in their own language without translations.
The way that I read the scripture is that the apostles were speaking their own language but the people that were listening to them heard them in the language that they spoke. So the gift of tongues should maybe be more properly understood as the gift of hearing.
This seems to be similar or identical to Padre pio when he would hear people's confessions he spoke in Italian but people would hear him in whatever language they spoke whether it be English or German or some other language.
No, there are different gifts of tongues. Paul explains them in the New Testament and gives pastoral guidance on how to exercise the gifts.

Well other people are Catholic too as long as they follow the Bible and the Cathecism. Dont divide what isnt separated. This is why some people accuse trads of schism. Dont be that person
SSPX uses 1962 . . . I'm not sure why 1955 is also "bad" . . . I currently attend SSPX and have attended FSSP and both used 1962. I got mine from Angelus Press with commentary vetted by SSPX editors. I take no issue with it. I'm by no means arguing that a commentary must be vetted by SSPX, FSSP or other present-day trad priest, but it does lend credibility. For the record, while most people at both parishes use the 1962 Angelus press missal, I have never heard a priest of any order make a disparaging comment against older missals, so feel free to use them as long as they have the Imprimatur. I heard UA-camrs recommend the Father Lassance one, which I think is 1955 . . . I've considered getting an older missal myself because they are such treasures ❤

Being filled with the Holy Spirit and exercising the gifts of the Spirit are part of what it means to be a Catholic. The Lord died on the cross to redeem us and pour out the Holy Spirit on us.
The charismatic circus is not REAL FAITH. Faith is about tranquility, calm, temperance, inner vision and reflection about the mystery of the Trinity and its infinite power. Jumping, shouting and juggling is not a way to approach Divinity.

Thank God the first time I encountered "Charismatic Catholics" in college my BS meter went off the charts. Seemed too convenient that no one could understand those "speaking in tongues" -- unless you had the "gift of interpretation." @MillionthUsername I am not the one in need of a cure and I am not the one ignorant of the gift of tongues.
Again, our good nuns taught us what St Luke wrote in the Bible, which makes it perfectly clear the Holy Spirit caused the Apostles to be *understood even by people who did not speak the same language* in order to save souls.
That's how a BS meter works: you are given the facts, which make it clear when someone is lying to you, or parroting a lie they heard from someone else.
This is what the good sisters taught us:
"They were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak. Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem, Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

Years ago, I worked for the City of Anaheim's Convention Center, and good ol' Benny Hinn (the headliner) had the fire Marshall shutting everything down. It was crazy. I worked the front lines outside starting my shift and people were literally crying to get in and some of them cursed us for denying their entrance. You'd have though Christ Himself was inside the building. Or Elvis. Anyway, my second shift they moved me inside and I had to walk under the stage to get to my spot. There were a lot of well dressed men and women silently counting money that had been stuffed into metal coffee tins while Benny's voice played live over a speaker. Now, I actually didn't see this happen, but I heard about it (and it's sadly unfortunate)- and older woman was wheeled up on stage to meet Benny and receive a healing, and she fell off the stage and broke her arm. As a young 20-something Cafeteria Catholic at the time, I found the entire experience 'greasy' to say the least.
In case anyone asks, her hip was healed 😆
1of 2 My sister started going to a charismatic church and she was elated. She spent the mass standing up with her hands in the air. She was euphoric for months. I would attribute that to their extreme acceptance. Then in time, the shine began to wear off and they told her it was because she didn’t have enough faith, not enough of the “Holy Spirit”.
How is that any different than any other denomination? The solution is always pray harder, seek harder, open your heart harder etc etc.
Actually as dumb and petty as what they told her was, at least they gave her an actual answer. Catholics never have real answers for the hard questions, I know because I never got any. It was "mysterious ways" or I needed to repent more or pray more or bla bla bla. No answers, just "keep doing more of the same and wait"

I grew up in the charismatic groups. It was total emo. I recall the first time seeing a charismatic prayer meeting (in the basement of a Catholic Church with 99% of the people there Catholic) and thinking that the adults had gone mad. They were yelling, jumping up and downing, laughing hysterically, sobbing, falling over like dead possums, holding up their hands and smiling like they were drugged up. You don't know what you're talking about. The Christian life is not without emotion. That would be a heresy. The Christian life is not without the active work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer (including the gifts). That would be a heresy as well.
If and when God chooses to manifest His presence in various ways for the benefit of His children, who are you to say He can't? At Pentecost, people were shouting/yelling. It was loud and appeared chaotic. People thought they were DRUNK. Peter had to stand up and explain what they were "seeing and hearing" was the Holy Spirit, not drunk people. Seems like you are on the wrong side of that equation.

I would answer you as Jesus did to the Pharisees in Matthew 12, "Then they brought to him a man possessed, who was both blind and dumb; whom he cured, giving him both speech and sight. 23 The multitudes were filled with amazement; Can this, they asked, be no other than the Son of David? 24 But the Pharisees said, when they heard of it, It is only through the power of Beelzebub, the prince of the devils, that he casts the devils out. 25 Whereupon Jesus, who knew what was in their thoughts, said to them, No kingdom can be at war with itself without being laid waste; no city or household that is at war with itself can stand firm. 26 If it is Satan who casts Satan out, then Satan is at war with himself, and how is his kingdom to stand firm? 27 Again, if it is through Beelzebub that I cast out devils, by what means do your own sons cast them out? It is for these, then, to pronounce judgement on you. 28 But if, when I cast out devils, I do it through the Spirit of God, then it must be that the kingdom of God has already appeared among you. 29 How is anyone to gain entrance into the house of a strong man and plunder his goods without first making the strong man his prisoner? Then he can plunder his house at will. 30 He who is not with me, is against me; he who does not gather his store with me, scatters it abroad.
31 And now I tell you this; there is pardon for all the other sins and blasphemies of men, but not for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. 32 There is no one who blasphemes against the Son of Man but may find forgiveness; but for him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit there is no forgiveness, either in this world or in the world to come.[5] 33 Either tell us that the tree is sound and its fruit sound, or that the tree is withered and its fruit withered; the test of the tree is in its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers, how could you speak to good effect, wicked as you are? It is from the heart’s overflow that the mouth speaks; 35 a good man utters good words from his store of goodness, the wicked man, from his store of wickedness, can utter nothing but what is evil. 36 And I say this, that in the day of judgement men will be brought to account for every thoughtless word they have spoken. 37 Thy words will be matter to acquit, or matter to condemn thee."

The Alpha program being adopted by parishes to promote kerygma, or an encounter with the Good News has, as its weekend retreat, a Charismatic experience. I volunteered at our parish, but quit in disgust when I saw that the program was not Catholic, and actually is dangerous, as it sows confusion.
This is an interesting comment. I was at my archdiocese where they run this program and stumbled into one of their classes (happened to be in the vicinity, nice people told me to come and check it out). I think so far this program is for people who may have been atheist before or perhaps were so deep in sin and down on their luck and life that they were ready to give up. It is definitely not for me but I can see how it can help the pagans find out about Jesus and who he is. I didn’t find anything charismatic about it yet however charisms are not just biblical, they are featured in our catechism. To deny their existence is to deny the existence of the Holy Spirit which is the one unforgivable sin. So perhaps something worth thinking about and speaking to God about.

I was exposed via their insistence, taken to prayer meetings at local parishes in the evening and occasional events that seemed to be large draws in the mid-west. It was a big thing to speak in tongues and to be slain in the spirit, etc. In retrospect it seems to have a gnostic element, and I don’t think it was catholic at all.

What's the 'heresy'?
Kennedy refers to several heresies that are part of this movement, but the biggest one, in my opinion, is saying that Jesus ‘received’ the Holy Spirit when He was baptized by John. John’s was the baptism of repentance. And since Jesus Christ is the second person of the Holy Trinity, He is already one with the Holy Spirit and has no need of being ‘baptized’ in the Holy Spirit. But there are many others, as Kennedy notes.

Given the gift of tongues is listed alongside of multiple other gifts, such as miracles, prophecy, etc, and these and others have been exhibited in the lives of numerous saints throughout the millenia, and given we don't want to end up like John MacArthur, it's obvious that all of the gifts are still in operation, we don't want to take a scalpel to the the NT as well saying that isn't for today, this isn't for today, but we have to also be mindful that counterfeits do exist.
It seems that the Church needs to have a serious conversation about this, what aspects of it are good and which go too far. But it seems that the hierarchy is totally ignoring it, or have I missed something? They have no problem talking about potential issues with traditionalism and even issuing official documents and rules on it. But I'm not aware of similar discussions about charismaticism. The charismatic movement is not a renewal, the stirrings of the Holy Spirit that happened in the 60's was probably meant to bring the Church back to Tradition, the Real Substance of Faith, not meant to start a new movement that led to false ecumenism and religious indifferentism.
False ecumenism and religious indifferentism are not taught by the CCR. The CCR is faithful to Catholic teaching. It certainly is a renewal of the gifts, a move of the Holy Spirit in our times to bring people to faith in Christ, and of course to Tradition since Tradition is part and parcel of the Catholic Faith.
If the CCR practices the principles of false ecumenism and religious indifferentism by fellowshipping with other denominations as if they hold to the same teaching as us, when they do not, then their ecumenism is false, they don't point to Tradition because they act like what they are doing is a substitute for Tradition, as if charismatic prayer is more central to living the Faith than keeping Apostolic Tradition. This is my observation of what they do.
If the CCR would hold to Tradition in practice, I wouldn't see a problem.
Unfortunate enough to have visited a pentacostal "friend day" made me so uncomfortable. Went to aprayer breakfast that's run by charismatic "Catholic" group. Can't go again.
So very excellent and informative. God bless you. And may you get well soon.
I find it interesting that my family was Catholic snd in the 1980s left the Church for the Assemblies of God and became very anti-Catholic. I was raised AG, but didn't pursue speaking in tongues until my thirties. I always found it strange and uncomfortable. But, eventually Inwas pressured into it because it was seen as a sign of salvation. If I didn't speak in tongues I wasn't necessarily unsaved, but it did call it into question. Weirdly enough, I woke up around 2 or 3 in the morning and began praying to speak in tongues. Unbeknownst to me, my friend who had been encouraging me also woke up around that time and prayed for me yo receive. I became flooded with emotion and out burst the babbling sounds associated with speaking in tongues.
From then on, I babbled away and everyone celebrated my gift. But, it wasn't long before I realized that i was just making the same sounds over and over again. Plus, I had no idea what I was saying. I thought the Holy Spirit would at least give me an inclination about what I was praying. Nope. Over time, I felt less and less peace about it. "Coincidentally," around that time was when I had 3 nervous breakdowns, severe post partum depression, sleep paralysis with the sleep demons attacking, and waking demonic attacks.
I gave it up. It didn't seem right or safe to me.
I also began to notice that speaking in tongues at church became performative, was emotionally driven, a proof of one's holiness not to be questioned, and a competition. The "winner" was almost always a man plagued with depression who would shout in his booming voice in tongues and then interpret. His interpretation was always the same and along the lines of this world sucks, you aren't faithful enough, do better, I'm coming back soon to judge everyone. For 20 years he pretty much interpreted the same thing.
If we didn't have a cacaphony of tongues and interpretation, we'd be admonished by a disappointed pastor for our lack of faith and openness to the Holy Spirit.
Frankly, it was exhausting. Church was only "good" if people were emotional and out of control. Worship was yelling nonsense and made up sounds into the void.
Yes, these people were/are sincere. My brother is an AG pastor. But I cannot get behind this "speaking in tongues" and charismatic stuff. Seeking out spiritual connections and experiences like that is occult!!!! It really is!!
Something else that should be mentioned is that, in all charity, many people drawn to the charismatic movement are psychologically wounded. I know many who have broken home lives or marital relations, or deep wounds from abuse. The emotional high that the movement offers seeks to bandage these wounds but can offer nothing in actual heaing.
You're right. That's why it's so dangerous.
It is the Lord who offers healing. The 'movement' doesn't claim to take the place of the Lord, but to lead people to the Lord.
ALL people are "emotionally wounded" from the fall. This is why we need God. God is loving and gracious and wishes to share His life with us. This is a wonderful thing, not a bad thing.
@@MillionthUsername No no no, let me stop you right there. The 'movement" does not use authentic methods of healing, nor does it really address the roots of real pain. It uses flowery, effeminate music, praise and worship sessions, slaying in the spirit, and other hyper emotional experiences to try to cover pain. Sure, there are those in the movement who preach confession and prayer, but its usually done in an aesthetic that maintains the emotionalism.
Don't mince language. We all know that there is a difference between the average person who has average wounds and problems, and people with deep spiritual, psychological, and emotional trauma.
All authentic healing and overcoming of the things that plague humanity are found in the traditional spiritualities and teachings of the Church. We have zero need for Pentecostalism in the Church.
@@elcidcampeador9629 You're just making wild unsubstantiated charges. I can't even follow it. You're the one being emotional and effeminate. Do you have something rational to say in defense of what you wrote?
@@MillionthUsername Been around the movement for years, I know plenty of people in it. I know what I am talking about.
Great podcast!
Ps
Of course, several novus ordo priests I knew before FSSPX were into it..
When I came back to the practice of my faith in my late 20’s by the grace of God because I really didn’t know my faith, I got involved with the Charismatic movement because of people in my parish who where heavily involved. I never felt comfortable with any of it and eventually stopped after a few years. The first time I attended a TLM I knew I found what was longing for my entire life.
In defense of Ralph Martin, I wouldn’t consider him “liberal” at all or a modernist. He has been outspoken regarding the Pope Francis and his contradictory and confusing statements and documents as well as who he has appointed….and Mr. Martin clearly speaks about the seriousness of sin, Hell and repentance.
What's interesting to me, is that I was involved in the Renewal, from 90' to about 02 about, but started to gravitate to Tradition and am fully traditional now. But, my son is also traditional, and although I initially encouraged him in the faith, he became more Trad than me. so, what's funny, He was living with a "Friend's" son, in an other city, this "Friend" was seriously Charismatic, and so was all his family, long story short, This friends son, referred to Tradition as "Albigensian" because my son said, that he should not be up in his room alone with his fiancé. Now, what you are saying makes total sense.
I have been very interested in this movement and what the story is…real/fake? So excited to watch!
Hope your cold clears. Get well soon
Very informative video, thank you.
Thank you for this video.
I love all my fellow brothers and sisters but this isn't Catholic. This is absolutely scary and misleading.
So sad about so much infighting. Part of the reason there has been so much error and confusion in the use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is because our clergy and hierarchy have not taken their rightful role in guiding the laity. They should be there like the banks of a river which give direction and power and vitality to the waters flow. Often pride, our desire to be in control, fear, and lack of openness to God’s desire to lead us and touch us, are keeping us from receiving and using the charisms He so greatly wants us as Church. to make use of. We will rarely reach out to or touch spiritually dying souls with any success without the power, discernment and various gifts of the Spirit available to us. We live in a world today where many people are totally given over to satanism so why would God leave us to ourselves to fight the spiritual battles on our own! We desperately need a New Pentecost in our day and age or the whole Church will perish. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!
I’m sorry but you’re talking nonsense. Our Lord already said that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church. Therefore, I don’t know what you’re talking about when you say the entire Church may be destroyed. We can’t “fix” the Church through our own efforts and it certainly won’t happen through heresy.
@@heartofjesusdj I didn’t say the Church would be totally destroyed. It will rise again from its purification. “The gates of hell will not prevail” is referring to us as a Church on the offensive. “Gates” are not a weapon of war they are a means for protecting. We are to break down the gates of hell in the here and now so that we may save as many souls for the kingdom as possible. God purified Israel many times in the Old Testament, why should the Church be any different when it goes astray?
The more the changes in the Catholic Apostolic Church, the more the fading of it's genuine & true nature as established by Christ Jesus. Let's keep the traditional way
I know several charismatics and have been to a big Catholic charismatic church in Houston, and with all due respect, I find it hard to believe it was them who ghosted him since he became traditional.
I think a lot of charismatics are well meaning, but poorly formed. I participated naively for a while, but I got quite disturbed over time because the group that I was part of was constantly uttering what was likely false prophecy. There was so much prophecy and sooo little discernment. Everything was uttered and kept, but virtually nothing was tested. I suffered a great deal of spiritual harm there and am glad that I don't participate in it anymore. Several people in the group had significant need of balance and wisdom. Some of the people may have had gifts, but they didn't have the virtues or moderation to back them up.
A priest explained to me that there was a time that speaking in tongues was helpful because other people actually understood what they were saying. Early church. But now Jibber jabber that no one understands ?????hmmmm
Your priest was probably explaining that the Apostles and early disciples were given the gift of tongues (languages) because they had been ordered to preach the Gospel all around the world.
They would speak in Aramaic, but those listening would hear the words in their own language.
The Apostles did not have time to try to learn the many languages spoken, so this is how the teachings of could reach every part of the known world.
The nonsensical gibberish of the Charismatic movement is not the same thing.
Exorcists affirm that this is a known symptom of demonic posession!
@@alhilford2345 Exactly
Early Church ...Very different/appropriate 'speaking in tongues'...
not this heretical version.
So sorry your priest let you down with that half-baked explanation. The gift of tongues is available today. It is a varied gift. It can be for prophecy or for personal prayer. It does not have to be in a known language according to Sacred Scripture. You can read up on the gifts in First Corinthians and other places in the NT.
@@alhilford2345 The gift of tongues is a real gift of the Spirit. It is not "nonsensical gibberish." If you wish to say that the faithful who speak in tongues are possessed by demons, then you should be very careful about that since you could be blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
Hello My Canadian Freind. Im Canadian As well,iHave Learned From YouPlease keep Bringing us imformation.God Blessyou.
thank you for this talk and this is so much spread in the church
I find the babbling of tongues offensive to the Holy pentecost when the actual Holy Spirit came apon the disciples and went out and preached so all could hear and understand and many joined the church that day. Babbling isn't likened to Holy Spirit rather more closely related to the tower of babel. Please stop that nonsense.
The montanists were the original charismatics.
No, they were heretics. The original charismatics were Our Lady and the Apostles.
Very True Kennedy 👍 thank you for the explanation. I learned so much! God Bless 🙌
I know that making a presentation took a long time and plenty effort but it was definitely worth it. You were much sharper, more focused than usual!
