Been riding for about 23 years, owned 40+ bikes, ridden probably around 500-1000 bikes, was a professional test-driver and development engineer for the car/motorcycle industrie, and was a motocrosser growing up. And i own a World Raid. Probably the best bike ive ever ridden. Def the best bike ive ever owned. And that coming from a Honda fan. I love this bike so much that i could buy a second one, just like that, for no better reason than just having two of them.
List 5 things why it's the best?
@@dIsAstErTR for starters, ive always wished Honda would make a "new version" of the old 750 Africa Twin from the 90s, because to me that is easily one of the best bikes ever made. I was hoping the new Transalp would be that bike, but unfortunately it is far from it. Enters the WR. In summary, one could say the WR is a "new age" Africa Twin 750: both have about 230mm fully adjustable suspensions, both weight around 220kg, both have 23L in the tank, both make about 70ish HP, both twin cylinders, both around 700ish cc, very similar geometry, known for their reliability, etc, etc, etc. Its almost like Yamaha set themselves to re-build the old 750AT with the WR. The only thing the T7 adds to the mix, are the modern things one wishes to have: USD fork, steering damper, ABS and fuel injection. And thats it. Nothing more. It still rocks a cable throttle and cable clutch and everything is purely mechanical on this bike. No riding modes, no ride-by-wire, no auto blipper, no TC, no stability programm, no lean-angle-IMUs, no fancy adjustable cornering-headlights, no bs. Add the fact that the CP2 engine is one of the smoothest, most linear and usable engines ever made, the suspension geometrie and setup works on and offroad at the same level as the very best bikes out there, it is a lot more comfortable than it looks, the wind/weather protection from the screen but also to the lower body is excellent due to the wide tanks, even though it is heavier on paper than the regular T7, it "feels" lighter since the tanks are mounted about 20cm (!) lower into the chassis, the gearbox ratios are absolutely perfect, i easily manage to squeeze 600+ km out of one fill up, this bike is very economical, it is easy to service, easy to maintain, uses no special tools anywhere, spare parts and aftermarket parts are widely available, no electronics to go wrong, sounds great and looks killer. Only real negative is the price and taking a passenger also isnt the best. It is not a cheap bike nor is it very comfortable for 2-up operation. But, i could go on about this bike for hours...i absolutely adore it. If i could i would buy a second one
@@Driftuner do you recommend africa twin 1100l base , Im planing step up from cb500X to Africa or tenere
@@lequan8766 ive never owned the AT, but ridden it a lot. And yeah sure i recommend it. The AT1100 is pretty much a "bigger T7". Not as capable offroad due to its weight, ergonomics and suspension, but way more capable for onroad/long travels and specially if you have a passenger. The T7 isnt the most passenger friendly bike in the world
@@Driftuner so a Africa for touring and trail riding and a MX for hardcore offroad issues better rights 😂
The Extreme would be my choice. Love the looks
I traded my R1200GSA for a T7 World Raid last year. Compared it to the Austrians, Italians, Brits and Swedes. Main things that swayed me over were the fuel range (because of the very low consumption plus large tank), reliability and looks. I was torn at first with the Norden 901 Expedition, but after making a test ride it just felt tiny for my 1.90 m / 6'3" length. I had to sit partly on the rear seat to be comfy. Also liked the Tiger 900 RP and all its features, but the price was just too much (5000 euros more) and I had a sense it was too much street orientated. The Tuareg was and still is a lot less popular, so besides my trauma with Italian reliability in the past, there is not a lof of aftermarket stuff to find for it in contrast to the tons of stuff available for the T7. I've customised it to my likings to get it to look more mean, be lighter and have more features. Like an aftermarket quickshifter, Kaoko throttle lock, chain oiler etc. Loving it so far.
I wish they would make a Tenere 700 with Tubeless Spoke rims... that would be perfect bike
I traded my 2018 tracer 7 for a world raid and I put £4500 worth of extras on it out of the box so it cost me £16.500 but a Dakar style bike has always been my dream so I went all in. I had everything put on it and I have no intention of going off road as my left hand is plated due to past motorcycle injuries. But what a beautiful ride the world raid is. I'm 58 and got my dream bike. So yea £16500 well spent. Although my wife moaned a bit.
Thank you for your comment: it PERFECTLY represents a typical buyer of these Tenere 700's. Ride safe!
Great review of them all! There's a leftover new 2023 World Raid for 1000 euros off to clear out the showroom. It's the last one. Just might get it this week. It's a beauty.
You didn't get it, did you ?
@@leeinwis i got it! Love it.
I got offered a great deal last year to upgrade my xtz660z for a 700 rally. Couldn’t face trading my 660 in but still lust after the white rally ❤
I would buy the Extream edition with extra parts for luggage and a taller windscreen :)
When you visit the USA page for Yamaha Motorsports, there is only the T7 available in two colors (blue and gray). Apparently the other models are not for the USA market.
Yeah, here in North America we are only given one model option. I was hoping we might get more when I saw Austraila get the WR model, but no... no such luck.
Now that I've bought the standard model, they will probably start selling the wr in the states....lol
@@MaxwellBenson80 that's exactly how that works
I would go for the World Raid. I tried the T7 standard and loved it, it is really playful. Unfortunately, couldn't try the WR as there is none on test in Switzerland, at least in my area. The downsize is on highways, and as I do quite a lot I need power. For now, I keep my KTM 1290 R for road and offroad and time will tell
Either would be good.
I’ve got the rally but with black excel rims instead of the gold rims
When are you going review the 7gt ?
I don't know what the Yamaha parts bin looks like, but travelling with a base model may be less of a headache in that regard.
Only when the explore is made with a more comfortable saddle for traveling with 2 people, with tubeless tires and in better colors
So sad, its not available here in Nepal, just wish to have a test drive at least 😪
Extrem. Having owned a KTM620 Adventure at a whopping 940mm seat height, this one would be perfect.
how many Yamaha sold them, tenere 700, what are the figures?
Wish the World Raid had the Rally livery though….
You can find the right livery for you on UA-cam, white BYRD , orange Chesterfield, blue SONAUTO, you name it!
Giimme tubeless spoked rims and cruise control PLEASE!!!
Easy peasy, just pop down to your local Aprilia dealer.
@@mermerac9610 On my way!
No, it makes way too much sense for yamaha 😂
Explorer. Im short, rode it.
Paid 7,800 pounds or $10,000 here in the US for the basic version T7. It seems all bikes sold in UK to be about 20-30% higher.
Great review all around but the last comment for the world rally price is totally inaccurate. The bikes you mention are a lot more expensive, at least here in Greece.
I would buy the World Raid in a heartbeat!!! Sadly Yamaha doesn't have their 💩 together and hasn't brought it to the US 😮💨😮💨😮💨
Bruh You think you got it bad? I'm trying to get it 2024 Africa twin. I think I would have better luck walking into a dealership and asking for a fucking unicorn at this point.
Well Yamaha hasn't brought the Tenere to india at all. Yamaha and KTM have been weird about bringing their advs to india. Ktm sells their pseudo adv 390 though. Bmw, Ducati, triumph, Honda, Suzuki, kawasaki, Harley Davidson all offer almost their entire range of accessories here but Yamaha and ktm won't. And Yamaha india is content with rehashing 150cc motorcycles. Just utterly strange.
My dream Yamaha would be a special build with just the GYTR rally fuel tanks and the performance and handling kits and no fairing, just an enduro front light. Kind of old school dakar style. Just have to win the lottery, i have a good feeling for tonights draw!
I've got a world rally on order :)
Picking up mine today! 😍
No tubeless tyres no go for me.
its so strange the tenere 700 only sells as the base model in the US. It's a massive seller in the us but only with the trash suspension model
I bought a GS 12 months ago and she's too big and heavy for me to handle off road without more training. Should have gone for one of these or even something smaller like a Husky 701/KTM690 to get my feet dirty. If I had the option, I'd probably grab the base model and kit it out as I needed too.
You will quickly realize, nothing can replace training. If you get the lighter bike you may get away with wrong body position, but you will never be really happy if you don't learn how to do it the right way.
And a GS is really not too bad for most off roading. despite the weight and the 19" wheel
I’ll take the Extreme please,thanks…🤘😉
I picked last years WR for 10995 with £1000 of Yamaha accessories thrown in 👍
In north america we only have one choice.
i will take world raid for double tank and steering dumper
Tenere is very god bike ! Super offroader!
The one that doesnt have a problematic clutch
Of course! From yamaha !! For me, the Tenere 700 W. Rally! But I really rather to buy what I bought Already!!😅😅😂😂❤ it's my new Ducati DesertX RALLY'
I will take the KTM version
In Canada we only have one choice.
Because they do not offer the world raid in the US i purchase a Ktm adv. 790
Definitely the extreme
Вай какая тяяга, Бархатная ❤
Which should u buy and news flash this just in the kove 800x will be available and wow its better than the t7 in almost every dimension and my goodness will you look at that price 😳😲🤯
Yeah t7 completely doesn't make sense in current market with this pricing.
Boomers who curse at electronics are still getting them though , so looks like Yamaha did found it's niche 😂
It's ridiculous how much tuareg is better yet at same price as base t7.
Here in poland tuareg is even cheaper .
I'm waiting for kove fuck obsolete brands
@@Angry-Lynx seems like this kove is gonna make the t660 obsolete as well, no? As well as the transalp, base 790/890 adv, cf450, himalayan… most ‘middleweight’ and many ‘lightweight’ adv bikes seem to have just been disrupted big time.
Also in the states the t660 is over $2k more than the base t7… t660 is rather pricey here, and its $3k more than the kove800 is expected to be.
@@Weltbummler23 I don't think it'll make Tuareg obsolete, I can still think at least few things to take it over Kove - with obviously cruise control being the main thing.
BUT! It'll for sure be it's direct and probably main competition and steal some sales from Aprilia which isn't doing too hot with Tuareg already.
One thing I'm absolutely sure is that Kove new unicorn proposal is extremely good news for adv market and competition.
Let's just hope they can last those next few years which will be challenging for them but if they manage I'm sure we'll see amazing things on adv market, including much more polished 800x with CC :)
@@Angry-Lynx a couple months back they announced the 800x will have cruise control. Also some european expats in china have posted that its also got very low vibrations, about as low as the t660… kove’s 450 does not have cruise, perhaps you are thinking of that one? On paper the kove 800x seems to have improved on the t660 in pretty much every spec 🤷♂️
Just to many variants, get Aprilia Tuareg 660
I would definitely buy the one that you are not buying which is none of them.
The world raid would be the one for me😋Gorgeous bike that I'd buy in a heart beat, if ony they'd put tubeless spokes on it😭come on Yamaha
Would buy an Extreme or WR tomorrow... if it was available in the US. Oh well...🤷🏻
The Extreme isn't available in the US!
The honest truth is that if you really wanna focus on offroad and you are just a beginner, then a dual sport is more than enough. The power alone and the weight would be too much for a offroad beginner.
The T7 could have been much better if...
Yamaha converted the engine to dry sump, flat bottom.
That would lower the COG significantly.
Like Aprilia did with their 660.
Or KTM flat bottom 790/890.
Yamaha engineers seem to be lazy 😅
The laziness also showed with the first generation where the ABS could not be switched of only at the rear.
If they had designed the bike properly I would own one.
Now I have to stick to the KTM 890 Adv R.
Great bike.
The worst customer care 😠
Why don’t we get all these options in the US???
Because we don't buy enough bikes!!!
There are only so many bikes I can buy!
@@mikeboyer1114 I'll try to do my best, but...money and the ring are not supportive in my mission to make the statistical turnaround from HD to Adventure Bikes...
Explore with the big tank …
Are there any plans to produce a 300cc version of the T7?
I have ordered the Extreme to replace my CRF300 and Triumph 1200XE as I'm riding more ATC now but still wanted the ablity to ride distance on road and get off road. The only annoying part is Yamaha dont fit at least proper 50/50 tyres as standard which means I have to spend more money, the Extreme should come with them as standard.
Got mine since November 2023. loving every minute with it.
👍
Just get the cheapest one and enjoy it
Yes, ride the thing.....
Then mod to what you want
They knew EXACTLY what they are doing releasing shitty base t7, then waiting few years.
Its called upselling and fuck them for that with huge F.
And even with all those new versions u still don't get basic current era shit like tubless and cruise control... Its ridiculous
Build a T 800 or 900 and I'll buy one.
in 2024 maybe I will buy KTM 790 Adventure :)
The explorer is a miss. It should have just been a low version(susp+l.seat) and a lower price. That would see them grab the market of the new 450 approachable ADV's with little to no effort. This way no real reason to get it. The rest look as good as they have from the start
All that and no cruise control
It's not designed to be used on long straight roads where Cruise control would be useful, most of the rides I do I'd never get the chance to use cruise control because the roads are winding , gravel etc even on main roads you get stuck behind traffic where CC is no use unless it's adaptive .
Or tubeless wheels
@@silverdale3207I think you missed the "touring" part of "adventure touring"... CC would absolutely be a useful and welcome addition to this bike.
@@ybaha1995 not really, I just think that if you are doing a lot of straight long roads then there are better options than the T7. In New Zealand we are constantly on and off the throttle even on main roads sure to traffic and corners so I'd never get to use CC anyway. Remember they were designed as a simple reliable bike built to a budget, that's why they sell like hotcakes
@@silverdale3207 cc is useful everywhere unless you live directly on a trail. I use it on my commute every day and i find use any highways. The only reason the t7 doesn't have cc because it doesn't have drive by wire throttle. If the cp2 was dbw, it would have cc and add $0 to the price or complexity. Also, in the US, if your singletrack is an hour away, that is considered very close. It's a big place...
Tuareg
In 2024 I'm not pulling the wheel and tire off a 200kg bike to patch a tube. It's not a 100kg dirt bike it's an adventure bike eeerrrghh Yamaha why? and cruise control please ! I have a 2017 Tenere 1200 with heated grips, cruise control and tubeless tires, all standard for next to nothing. It's a fat 260kg adventure bike, but it knows it's not a dirt bike.
Just get the tuareg over this
What about kove 800x
Amen.
Tuareg if u performance oriented (or wait for Kove) and AT if u want reliability.
T7 have nothing interesting to offer especially for this pricing
Africa twin🤷🏻
No tubeless wheels and no cruise control =no deal 😢
Yamaha USA sucks we only get the standard T7 so I won't buy it.
Most overhyped bike ever made , it just looks good but neither good on road nor off road .transalp 750 with suspension upgrade and veridian cruise is much better adventure bike .
Too heavy by far.
Get a 690 /700/701.
crap advertisement disguised as a video
We only get the base model in the states 🫠
Bro please say 'absolutely' 🥹
