i used to see that thing rolling around monroe ny all the time growing up in the 90s/00s. it actually dug the footings for the back deck on my house back in 94. was owned by bilt-well fence co in monroe ny.

My dad had a 76 CJ5 with a dealer installed Ramsey winch that ran off the pto. I remember running through the gears to run the winch. Cool setup, tons of pulling power
Since you are asking, I vote you sell the auger setup and get back the money you spent on the Jeep. Then keep the Jeep for all the running around stuff Jeeps are good for. But you do you Chris. Love watching you tinker.
That is definitely the most unique vehicle I have ever seen in my life and I do bodywork for a living…33yrs. I’ve seen some unique vehicles. That thing is crazy lol😄👍
Back in the late 60tys Jeep had back hoe and trenching setups they built for utility Companys. They had duel wheel 1 ton rear axles.
This is crazy cool. You gotta leave it intact. It even works already!
1968 worked a summer job at a fence company in Phoenix AZ. They asked me to nibble the ends of steel pipe sections not being sure what they were for. As I watched a Guy Named John Smith (really) started assembling them into a square contraption and said it was a post hole digger for mounting on the back of a jeep. A few days later as the digger was being finished a rail car pulls up hauling a brand new CJ5. We did all the PTO assembly and jeep modes then mounted the digger to the back. when completed it was towed out to a large open area in the NE between Phoenix and Scottsdale. They had 5 miles of post holes to dig and did it in the afternoon. It was a great experience for this young guy.

pretty sure nobody cares but iv got a son and we have become ships in the night which hurts ,3 months ago whilst i was watching Chris and Jen work together i thought about starting a project ,long story short ive got a father son project happening and im over the moon ,just need a lil dog now ,thankyou for the inspiration

The New Year’s Eve fog in the tristate area shows what a quick turnaround you managed on this. Here on the west coast of Florida, we have had fog for the last few days. So thick it sounds like rain dripping off the trees.
Looks very similar to the jeep my company used many years ago, I never personally seen it in use. Sent a text to my boss he said it sure looks like it. We're out of upstate NY. Bilt well fence
Found out that it is indeed one of our old fence jeeps, we had two of them. The guy you bought it from is a coworkers brother who took both the jeeps years ago. We might even still have the doors for it somewhere.

I bought a brand new 1985 CJ7 right after high school. It literally started rusting within 2 years. Biggest hunk of garbage ever. That said, I love them. I currently have a 1969 CJ5 that I restored from the ground up. Now currently looking for the right CJ7. Keep them both!!

Couple months ago a buddy & I drove almost 5hrs to get a truck we get there guy sold it after I gave him a deposit then he had to run to the bank which took an hour cause he was eating breakfast told me I had to wait wasn't a great situation. Pretty cool jeep NNKH ur content is top notch always 👌

Chris, my grandfather hired (ha, ha) my older sibling, my cousin, and one of our neighbors to put up a dividing fence in the pasture next to our home. We used post hole diggers, shovels, a jig digger, and a wooden mallet to dig the holes for the fence posts. After we had made good progress, we ran into solidly packed clay and rock. Granddaddy contacted a man nearby who had a tractor with a drill rig similar to the one on your CJ. After drilling several holes, he broke the drill bit on his rig. That was the end of that! Happy New Year to you, Jen, Gus-man, and Turbo da cat!
Man, having dug many many holes with a 2 man gas auger, I would say keep it intact. Great to see a vid from you on New Years Day. All the best in 2023 for you and Jenn.
seems like you've got the right idea. sell the auger equipment and keep that jeep for the trails. you might have to go through that 4.2L but you could just do a quick, ultra cheap, 'rebuild' on it. just think of the fun camping trips you & Jen could take. plus, there are always huge jeep groups around that go on fun outings to different OHV parks and what not. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I second this! As you can see in my profile pic, I also have an 80s CJ7! Would love to see you fix some of the notorious problems on this thing so I can see how to make these repairs as well. Then we can go jeepin! Sad to see the older Jeep go but I think it’s for the best to focus on this newer one :)
I saw some Lucas Oil Stabilizer on the shelf. That can be used in place of gear oil in Diffs and Transfers. Oh well. I'd say keep the Jeep as is. It's unique and should stay that way. I'm sure you could find another Jeep trail rider.
My D had to have Jeep when ib her 2nd yr of college. I found a 86 that looked great but was not maintianed so low price for her that was in 94 and she loved it. No hard doors but I got some older ones w/o the paddle handles. Got some keepers off my next door and good for the winter. O course I was designated hardtop remover as no boyfriend in sight. LOL She got her a bikini top and ball cap and ponytail and all setfor the summer. She loved it cause all Jeep owners wave.

That chain is for when the motor mounts just aren't enough, my dad.had some on his 460 big block Ford hi boy, both sides of the motor. I have done it before and I have ratchet straped my trans brace in

Love your videos! Thanks for quality content. Be careful with antifreeze around Gus. Even him walking thru it then licking his paws could cause serious problems for the little man.
I used to use a brand made with propylene glycol, Prestone Low-Tox, because we had dogs and cats around the yard all the time.
I've actually seen that thing at work long fence in Baltimore Maryland back in the 90s

That Dana 300 is an amazing transfer case and it has a dana 44 rear axle which is great. Perfect candidate for a trail jeep
You should invite VGG to drive that old jeep home 600miles. Bolt in some beach chairs and wire up some lights. "Factree"
From a welder/fabricator/boilermaker- that is pretty slick. I wish I had that when drilling for my fence on my property...

I would put the cj7 back to stock with a new paint job all the body work done and use it to go to the beach in in the summer that would a great thing to do and i think jen would love it to.

I worked with a guy that had a 1988 Jeep Comanche truck with the 4.2 I-6 motor back in the late 1990's and his motor had the same exact knocking noise.
Lol youre right about them tow bars and dollies there a pain to try back up .

Backing with a dolly is hard. Our dolly has a locking pin to prevent the swivel,helps some with the backing,but even still it's hard

Out here in Southern California, they use those Jeep rigs with a forklift setup on back, to drive around in the Avocado Groves and list up the large bins of gathered fruit and take down the hill. I think it would be cool if you keep it, if you don't have too much money tied up in it. I had that 4.2 L straight six in my AMC Eagle hooked up to a 5-speed.
You need to do another "will it run and drive" cross country road trip.
When the right vehicle or opportunity comes along definitely will be doing more of those. Definitely fun videos to make but those trips get pricey quick

Best to do to with the ignition if not already done is the nutter bypass or just delete the electronic control ignition and install Gm hei distributor . They run much better .

Flat towing your jeep should disconnect the drive look line what I do on short tows leave tcase in gear and tranny in neutral so tcase output shaft bearings get lubed, love what you do very entertaining peace out
Thanks. One other guy mentioned that as well about the T case bearings. I was under the assumption that if you leave the transfer case in neutral, the gears will still be flinging lube around in there

Two things about the flat towing with the Dana 300, you need to every couple of hours stop and let the jeep idle, the upper transfer case bearing will burnout, Warn used to make rear locking hubs to fix this situation. Make sure your towing bar is tight from side to side, years ago I towed a jeep that had slop side to side, I saw my life pass before my eyes going down a hill.

I can understand how you feel about jeeps. Have a 2000 I drove for 19 years and quarter million miles with barely problem until the frame rusted out too much to inspect anymore. Still have it sitting in my garage.😂

Love the content, but it would be great to see a full build-out on something. Sell the auger setup and turn the CJ into a competent off-roader. Engine rebuild, etc. Maybe convert the PTO into an off-road recovery rig? Something creative for sure….

Get rid of the post hole digger. Get a fiberglass top and doors. It's your perfect vehicle for tow home and medium duty off-road fun rig! Soooooo easy to work on and everything is available and that motor is solid as a rock. Well worth it to keep around

That is a crazy fabrication . Some of the 50s jeeps had power take off like farm tractors and 3 point hitch
