Not really any diff in amount of time or money spent than many spend on their hobbies, the difference is that they are all items on display in such amount. My first thought is too easy for someone to steal from him or he damage a fire would do. Would never want that on anyone. I would just worry too much to have them in the garage
yes - IF you do collect you DO understand. IT'S not a need, it's a desire to be complete, connected, a unit. I collect plastic Corvette kits, unopened, sealed - have only 800+.
Just dropped from 2,300 cars to 1,800 cars recently. This hobby is fun and enjoyable no doubt but really sucks the money out of your bank. Some might justify it's okay because you're not spending it on drugs or alcohol. Regardless, in the end of the day it still is an addiction if you can't control yourself. Im glad this guy is genuinely happy with his collection. If he is able to financially sustain his hobby then that's great but a tip for newbie collectors reading this - Make sure you buy what you like and not recklessly spend your money or cars for the sake of collecting it only
Yep totally an addiction. When coronavirus occurs, i dont go to campus and i save 90% of my money. Since then i already buy like 70 diecasts, mostly $10 cars. But totally worth it when u know which type of diecast youre into (in which i decide i only collect limited models/discontinued brand), make u easier to stop on this hobby, since i dont have to keep up with the upcoming models🤣
I just began collecting in 2015, but from the start decided to focuse only on racing cars, only those who entered races in the remote 1967 season. Now, in 2021, I fulfilled quite my goals, and have only 576 models (mainly 1/43 but Around 60 in 1/18 and 1/12) . But I am happy I did it, will put all the models in special purpose built stands, and then stop. I am with Drifter D here, and I can tell you that ain't a problem to stop.At least for me : Why ? easy to guess, because it s know harder and harder to find models I don't have ! I spent a budget around 35000 USD, in seven years. Not a reasonable amount of money, but the average price of each car ( die cast, assembled kit, or kit to built ) was high priced, I wld guess higher than 70 USD ( 35 € = 30 USD was a low priced item in my research,) and with shipping costs. I used Ebay, and specialised shop, the only sustainable solution to find what I was looking after. advice : stay focused on what motivate you starting a die cast collection, concentrate on it, and once done, STOP.
Good thinking. A collection of a couple thousand is ok. But 30000 is obssesive and Serves no purpose but cluttering up your house. (Though this guy has his collection well organized) I mean when you have three diecast deep on your wall....WHAT IS THE POINT??? You can't see them or enjoy them. Having 20 of the same car in different colors is a waste of money and they will never be worth anything more than he paid. Most likely less. A bit of advice. Collect what you like and don't feel obligated to buy every piece like this guy. Select each piece for it's uniqueness. I know collectors that collect just about every piece Hot Wheels releases EVERY YEAR. That amounts to at least 500 a year when you factor in all the Walmart exclusives and premiums sets. These same collectors also buy matchbox.
@Markus Patients Yeah..matchbox does a really nice job on the real cars but they release them several times. One sample of a particular casting is probably sufficient for any modern collection.
@Markus Patients lol...well they are gonna do it and it's not against store rules for the most part. I don't mind people who go in and raid a pallet and just take supers and the stuff they like. They got there first so good on them. What DOES bother me are the resellers that buy most of the store inventory making shortages of common stuff. But I won't feed into. I have fun collecting but NOTHING is worth the Hassel of paying more or driving all over the place to obtain.....i have better things to do and more rewarding hobbies to enjoy.
tbh a hobby like this is great... his kids can get into, bringing the family closer... he isn't out doing drugs or gambling... and he isn't spending wild amounts of money or expensive toys, just some good ol holsom hotwheels...
Toys are happiness. You can play or display them as long as you enjoy having them. I started one when I felt completely alone and depressed. They are my lifesaver, not entirely my life but part of my life and now I'm back on track in my life.
That's how I feel too. I'm glad that you are doing good. I have collection of 80s toys that I grew up with and that makes me happy. Makes me feel young too. Don't feel as depressed too. Take care.
I love how he has included his family, and especially his daughter into this hobby. By giving her space, and displays of her own she can feel equally proud of what she has. For a child this feeling of equality is much better than entitlement, as they are doing this together. My sincere hope that you and your daughter continue to share hobbies whatever they may be as she grows.
I hope this light shed upon them haven't gotten them robbed of any sort and his special collection is separate he only showcased the least of concern to the front not hating just an opinion Have a NICE day or night
1. Spare money for ur first house 2. Buy hot wheels while saving for your dream car 3. Buy your dream car 4. Move in your dream house with housing market profit on ur first house 5. Buy lots of hot wheels I’m at step 2 haha
I love people who follow their dreams : collecting cars, motorcycles, miles on an airplane, toy-cars... Doesn't matter as long as you do what you really like :-) you're an inspiration man ! Good luck with your next purchase :-)
Absolutely amazing collection. As a collector, my concern is the weather affecting the cars in the garage, but space is a finite thing. You truly have the ultimate die cast collection! I would love to see these cars in person. Keep going!
As a collector I don't like blister card packaging : open one and it loses half of its value, don't open it and you will never be able to hold the model in your hands.
My dad does this, he has about 4 or 5 Rubbermaid tubs full of them, all of them still have the original packaging. He also has about 60-70 thread cases that puts matchbox cars in, and they each hold about 40 cars.
The value of this collection is astronomical! The 1/24 Jada stuff are priced anywhere from 20.00 to 50.00 and beyond! Beautiful collection though. I have collected Hot Wheels since I was a kid (I'm 61!) and have a couple thousand, mostly unopened. How are they still a buck? Best value in collectables!
In my opinion, that is overboard. But to each their own! I'm a fan of only 1/18 high end such as autoart, kyosho, exoto etc. (only models that open, no resin). Pretty expensive hobby but seeing the collection grow and appreciating the level of detail is priceless
+Veritas lux Mea She saw the size of the house he bought and she was like. Yeah, that will do. You can have anything you want. We are rich so it doesn't matter
A lot of spouses are about their social status / friends so a lot of times, even with the money, these 'toys' would be criticized so I'd say shes a good catch. From the looks of it event organizer & his wifes career must bring in some good income though.
I had the pleasure of meeting Andy at our Summer Smash event in Rhode Island. One of the great ones in the hobby. I'd love to bring Summer Smash back some day. Love to have Andy be a part of it. Great video enjoyed it immensely .
Thanks very much Andy brought back a lot of memories I’m 60 years old when I was a kid every Saturday my grandpa would take me to the store and I could pick out a matchbox car Your video brought back a lot of great memories thank you
The greatest hobby in the world in my opinion. I have been collecting for approximately 60 years ever since I received my very first Matchbox VW Beetle which I still have. I recently built a 16' X 24" toy room to house and display my 13,000 car & truck collection. I also like building the garage dioramas and layouts for photographing, as well as customizing and restoring these little gems. I must say, I never got into the Jada stuff. Very few made it into my collection. Some looked pretty cool, but the over sized wheels and out of proportion bodies never caught my eyes enough to purchase many. This gut has a fantastically nice and organized collection!!!
Here from some Reddit comments from Halloween. Such an awesome and wholesome video. Made me almost tear up and go wow I can’t wait for my future with my fiancé and our kids some day. From the pictures I saw on Reddit that car in the garage has been finished! Loved this
I’ve been collecting for years. I don’t know how many cars I have. Somewhere between 2000 or 3000 I estimate. I’ve bought them casually. Some here, some there....when ever I saw something I liked I bought it. I never realized how many I had until we moved. But his 30,000 makes me look like small potatoes...
This guy has an amazing collection of diecast cars. His next step should be to open a museum so other collectors can see and enjoy all the cars and sets he has collected over the years.
Collectively educational collections for many generations. Identified roots that does not wobble nor juggle. Tested and proven continuous. Protected, and insured.
I definitely understand! I don't know how many cars I have in my collection. And almost every week, i'm either at Walmart buying more or online ordering some. I've been in love with cars since I was 4 - 5 years old! And I don't plan on stopping or selling!
I know people always seem to think these huge collections are cool, but in reality they end up owning you and becoming a misery. A small-ish focused collection is far better in the long run. Speaking from personal experience and that of others.
So true! Not trying to be mean, but personally that wall of stuff is... puke inducing. The cars were meant to be marketed to all different individuals, to own all the toy cars is saying you like all the cars, which I guess he would as he is a car event organiser. But I only buy what I like for anything I like, not try and collect them all (like video games). Those guys have hoarding problems.
Seems like a very nice/down to earth guy with an extreme passion. Would love to see the whole collection in person. How much value do you think is in the whole collection? We have very similar interests.
I had fun going on hot wheel hunts over about a four year period but only collected about 800 then I stopped myself sold half and put the best half in my closet. Sometimes you have to know when to stop.
I know the feeling. I've purchased diecast over the years but never collected just had a few. Recently my wife inherited a NASCAR collection from her dad. Nothing like this guy has just few thousand cars mostly 1/64. The plan was sell them. I started by setting some aside and having the kids pick out some they like and it turned into almost 100 cars set aside mostly 1/25 and I find myself on eBay looking for cars to finish sets and trying to figure out how I can display them so they don't get dusty or damaged. They are cool can't help but like them.
As soon as you receive new models, you just hang them... .. That's it.??? You don't even open the boxes, to inspect and appreciate them.?? No "tasting" them.??? Do you also sell models.?? Asking, 'cause those shop counters. Anyway, congrats.!!!!
Non collectors do not understand collectors . Frankly I don’t give a damn , it’s what I like to do and makes me happy . I collect only what appeals to me . You have an awesome collection sir ! So organized !

These cars are nice but there New! Start collecting the cars before all this. Start collecting the Lesney 'Matchbox' series from 1953 to 1969 Now that's amazing die-cast!
Well look at his dream car, a 1980s Mustang! He is a young guy and obviously collects newer diecast cars. I would give all 30,000 up for a set of 1960s Matchbox, Corgi, & Hot Wheels.
Great. WONDERFUL collection indeed. All cars I have, well the most part of them I don't have the boxes. This is in another level I have about 1500. Many of them I have played with since was a kid. I display them so that I can see them all. Of course with 30000 of them much more space needed. But still I have to take them out of the box. Many congrats for your wonderful collection.
Man I really enjoy your collection thank you am a car collector my self but no way near you,but you and I kn that that’s not wat matters, wat matters is wa you have and been happy wit wat you have!! Thank you
the best part about this hobby is that he isnt losing money, he could sell all of his cars and actually make more money from them than what they cost brand new
I like Jay Leno and what he has and continues to do for automotive history. But... Jay doesn't have shit on this guy. Super awesome collection, keep it up!
There's difference between a collector and a modeler. I own several model railroad cars myself and almost all of them LEAVE the box at one point. This guy COLLECTS (which is still perfectly fine) and his passion is certainly a rare but amazing one.
impressive collection and a real nice guy. I am in a full size car club and we meet the HW club sometimes. There is only so much to talk about my 1 car, then you go drive. This basement is an infinite amount of car talk. On the flip side, to have such a nice house and 150,000 $ in model cars, you are rich and very fortunate to have your life. : )
He said something about die cast that look like the real thing, were are the JOHNNY LIGHTNING'S? My collection is nowhere near what he has, but most of mine are JL, with a few select HW that were my favorites in my younger years. It was great to be young when HW were put on the market. All of us boys in my neighborhood raced our cars all summer long, what memories!!! I'm not knocking his awesome collection, because it is an AWESOME COLLECTION!!! but I got to play with mine.
I admire your devotion and i wanted to mention that i think your lucky that your family supports your hobby. I also collect but i dont have spousal support. Your collection is amazing. I love your H.W. classics. Then again i buy them all. Hw, mtxb, johnny lighning, m2, greenlight, majorette,& more but my collection isnt complete like yours. Maybe one day! Do you have a you tube channel?
Anyone who hates on/ makes fun of this guy deserves a special place in hell. He’s bringing joy not just to himself but too his whole family and his daughter
Looks like he is enjoying himself with his family. Nothing wrong with that. Haters be damned

Andy you are an example to follow.LOL. Your collection is great.thanks for share.
Here we have a very happy and proud Camper , great collection of Cars and Lego
I used Ebay, and specialised shops, the only sustainable solution to find what I was looking after.
advice : stay focused on what motivate you starting a die cast collection, concentrate on it, and once done, STOP.
From one serious collector I say simply. amazing collection ,unbelievable
u look like lester from grand theft auto v
Thats just amazing, i would spend days looking all those Cars, Nice dude... Keep doing it
These cars are nice but there New! Start collecting the cars before all this. Start collecting the Lesney 'Matchbox' series from 1953 to 1969 Now that's amazing die-cast!
I noticed his hot wheels classics were the reproductions of recent times. Wonder if he has any of the sweet sixteen
Well look at his dream car, a 1980s Mustang! He is a young guy and obviously collects newer diecast cars. I would give all 30,000 up for a set of 1960s Matchbox, Corgi, & Hot Wheels.
@ 5:55 he says he's a productions car type of guy
Man i think I have started being this guy a month before🙈
Love his collection!
very nice collection enjoy your hobby ive been in this hobby for about two years im hooked and wow you got some nice pieces.......rock on.....
Absolutely awesome to see thanks for sharing
What's sad about this is that out of all of the cars he has, he's probably only ever opened and looked at 50 of them.
There's difference between a collector and a modeler. I own several model railroad cars myself and almost all of them LEAVE the box at one point. This guy COLLECTS (which is still perfectly fine) and his passion is certainly a rare but amazing one.
They're worth more on the card
Lol yeah the one his wife got him was probably the only 1
impressive collection and a real nice guy. I am in a full size car club and we meet the HW club sometimes. There is only so much to talk about my 1 car, then you go drive. This basement is an infinite amount of car talk. On the flip side, to have such a nice house and 150,000 $ in model cars, you are rich and very fortunate to have your life. :
)
What an adorable guy and familyl!!! Congratulations for your collection!!! :)
Looks like a hoarding problem to me, nevertheless, a stunning collection.
Every mans dream collection!
Who dusts all the cars must take forever Love Car people Thanks for sharing
Anyone who hates on/ makes fun of this guy deserves a special place in hell. He’s bringing joy not just to himself but too his whole family and his daughter
He's turned himself into a prisoner by being owned by his hoarding!!
Seems like a lot of new stuff. I would like to see a collection of old school matchbox and hot wheels. You know. 50’s-60’s-70’s vintage.
wow he has made that collection look good, usually collectors have very bad looking collections with cars just scattered all over the place
