The Oban is priced at $72.95 here vs the Clynelish 14 at $69.95, so close there, but at 46 ABV and something I am presently enjoying (with the Clynelish), no real reason to try the Oban right now. Totally agree with your assessment. I've been drinking Oban for years but having recently had my eyes opened to what else can be bought around the £50 mark (46%, NCF) I'm not sure, for me, it can compete.
It has been a while since I tasted Oban 14. I recall enjoying it, coating, fruit, a hint of peat. Definitely enjoy the Clynelish. Great intro, fun compliment to Roy!

This has one very good use. Originally I could not stand peat. Even Highland Park 12 was too much at that point. Oban 14 is just right to get your foot in the door of peated scotch. Got this early in my Scotch journey so there was enough complexity to make it intresting. Cheers Jim

Thanks for those wise lessons during the intro, Jim. On the Oban: decent dram in m opinion, but not 'the best kid in town'. The 14 for me is the dram where the citrus notes are best noticed (of the drams I've had). The price doesn't stand for this whisky despite it being 14yo... If you want a great 14yo: try the Clynelish (saves you money as well :-) )

Jim you nailed it. Oban is okay, but over-hyped and over priced. I've emptied a bottle and can say with confidence the Clynelish is a better product in my opinion. I worry that Diageo will start raising the price of Clynelish as more people discover how nice it is. Roy should be proud of your intro-- the highest form of praise with some brilliant humor.
