    I just did this to my 2020 Subaru Forester and it was one of the most difficult things I have ever done. I smoked at least $50 worth of metal bits. But it does look great now that it is finished.. Thanks for the video!

  • @aaronsbarker

    Just an fyi, if the load on the harness is meant for only two lights, upping the fuse may lead to the rest of the harness overheating. You will likely need to upgrade the wires and relay for the doubled load or use two separate harnesses for each pair. You can use the same interior switch to activate two relays, those don't draw much power.
    Looks good!

  • @MCPr0m0
    @MCPr0m0 7 років тому +7

    When it comes to location of wires, I recommend running them through a grommet from the engine bay fire wall. The way you have it coming though the door like that, you are prone to water leaks and pinching of the wires. If you cut the grommet to "make the wires flush with the door" you are now making it easier for water to get down into the door and cabin through the exposed hole/cut. It may not seem like a big deal but it is. Great vid though! Not a subie fan but I will admit yours is looking pretty damn clean. Good shit.

      I was reading all the posts before I wrote that. And that BS asst-tap connector that came with the light has to go. Splice solder n tape bruh lol

      I agree, the wiring harnesses that come with some of these ext. accessory lights are shit and not always up to spec. I always just buy an extra roll of whatever gauge wire the light requires and make my own, and then of course a fuse if needed. My lights have yet to fail me :)

    Looks good! Only thing I personally would have done different is put a little clear coat, nail polish, or super glue on the bumper where you drilled just to make sure it didn't rust! Either way Crosstrek is lookin mean!!! Nice work.

    Run the green and yellow wire through grommet on the firewall. Don't cut the door grommet!

    I had lights like this on my 2001 focus back in 2001 - bought the car brand new
    I wired them the same way; spliced into the high beams
    I have a 19 Trek I just picked up a couple weeks ago - I have a ton of lights and mounts coming for it and this time around I will NOT be splicing them into the high beams - they’ll be direct to the battery so they can be toggled at anytime with the car on or off / I find this to be the most convenient way….
    Good vid and good work for having not a lot of experience - can’t wait to take the bumper and panels off of mine - gonna be a fun little prawjekt

    Three years later, this is super useful. I'm thinking of ordering a SSD bar from US to EU to install on a 2019 Levorg so it's good to see it being done on a similar car.

    You got to reground the wire that’s in the engine bay. Instead of grounding it to the battery use the body of the car. Also be careful with adding a higher fuse. It may not blow but the wires can possibly cook with to much current going through them.

    • @santinisoriano6628
      @santinisoriano6628 Рік тому

      Definitely not going to blow fuse but blow your wires and may set your Crosstrek on fire.

    You could make a vid of you putting chicken nuggets in the microwave and I’ll watch it. You’d go in depth of the kind of plate you used and the type of microwave it’s in and how they come together to make a perfect chicken nugget plate mix. I drive a hellcat and I found this entertaining. I love it man. Keep it up

  • @nickhansen129
    @nickhansen129 7 років тому +1

    Yo dude the fuse most likely blew cuz you have all the lights ran to one switch. At most you should run 2 lights with 1 harness. Also, look for a firewall grommet/harness pass thru. Drill the hole through the rubber and use a fish tape to pull the wires trough the hole you just drilled. Once the wires are pulled use silicone to touch up the passed thru wires just for insurance purposes on the hole that was drilled on the grommet/firewall pass thru. Good luck buddy!

    Are you a mechanic or an electrician? ;) You're learning.. that's what matters. Have fun and thanks for the videos. Thinking about picking up a 2016 - 2018 in the near future. The trick with the cone drill is to use your impact driver... Also also.. if it has a fuse and a relay you can wire that straight to the battery and ground to the body. This is how hella horn works also.

    Are you not worried about rust starting on the exposed steel surrounding those mount holes you enlarged? I usually at least cover bare metal with some primer or any kind of paint at hand (if area not visible), to do some rust prevention. The light bar looks great btw!

    I really enjoy your Crosstrek videos and plan to follow your Light Bar Install, with a little different wiring scheme - using two fogs and two driving lights, switched but wired to the cars existing fogs and high beams. Not sure how to wire the fog pair because of the Adaptive Fog Light option, but I should be able to find a lead that is only hit with both fogs on.
    I received a Lift Kit Install estimate of us$3,500 installed, so I am really debating that one.

    Really glad you used round Hella lights and not a cheap ass led light bar. Really getting sick of seeing garbage led light bars on shit trucks that cost less than the light bar itself. The round Hella lights look amazing!
    Also, may not be a bad idea to wire a high current relay into your high beams so that the Hella lights come on with the high beams. Would make sense?

    I think you might be upgrading the wiring and the fuses pretty quick if you plan on using them much. The gauge is kinda small and be careful replacing the fuse on your stock headlights like that. Don’t want to burn up the stock harness.

    • @TalonSei
      @TalonSei  7 років тому +3

    Thanks for the videos. While I know these videos are older, I'm actually looking into buying a new Crosstrek Sport or a new Forrester Premium.
    Any recommendations and do you still like your Crosstrek? Any issues thus far with the engine, etc? Do you like the storage capacity of the Crosstrek or should I opt for the Forrester?
    Mostly looking for good ground clearance, larger than my current car (which should be easy since I own a 2015 Toyota Corolla lol) and AWD with good/great reliability. I keep hearing about CVT, oil consumption and Head Gasket issues with older models.
    Much appreciated. Your videos are helpful.

    Hi! Just my 2 cents, I would have wired the 4 Hella lights so they would turn on with the oem fogs, not the high beams. Fogs lights are useful in fog/snow/heavy rain but your high beams will blind you in these conditions.

    • @howardsmith1111
      @howardsmith1111 2 роки тому

      I prefer the look of low, inner fogs and raised outer drives/spots. For the road I'd possibly relay fogs off of the OEM fogs and totally separately, drives/spots relayed off of the OEM high beam.

    Great video and just a couple suggestions:
    - I concur with the previous suggestions to paint the holes that you drilled out to prevent rusting,
    - I would have continued the black wire loom to protect the wires from the grill to the battery and to the firewall or to the door jam ..you run a considerable risk of those wires rubbing on metal and shorting out causing sparks and or a fire.
    - I would have run the wires through the firewall verses through the quarter panel as there must be some rubber plug that you could access.
    Keep up the great videos....cheers

    Question was the removal of the bumper really necessary. I am thinking of buying a cross trek, and when I do I would want to buy these light or something similar. But I do not have access to a nice clean garage so removing the bumper is kind of out of the question for me. Could you have done it with out removing the bumper, or do they make a bar that you can.

(Feb-March) The guy didn't tell me much, but he said there would be different stages of performance packages, kinda like the STi/WRX. So...im gonna guess a Intake, Header, Full Exhaust, Tuner etc. Once all this comes out, I will be getting one within 6 months.

I run them on my Z71 Tahoe and have put them through dirt, mud, snow, ice, etc. you name it, the KO2s can conquer it. Wow, BFG should be paying me to say this shit.

I think if you only go 1 inch you don't need the rear alignment hardware. I would also use grabber at 2 tires instead of the bfg simply because of the weight.

    Did it end up being the fuse that turned off the lights? If so did you have to add a higher amp fuse?

    • @TalonSei

      It was the fuse and yes

    Your fog lights turn off when you put the hella light on, not sure if thats you doing it or the hella light drawing the power away from them.

      I know this is a year later, but...
      US laws prohibit you from running fog lights and high beams at the same time, so they are wired from the factory to turn off if the high beams are turned on. He has his relay signal wire connected to the high beams so the factory fogs turn off and the Hellas get the signal to turn on at the same time. Honestly though, between the 4 Hellas, two low beam lights and two high beam lights, he's got 460 watts of lighting, or 38.3 amps. If he added in the two fog lights, he'd probably be pushing the limits of the factory alternator.

      LED headlights don't work on incandescent headlight assembly's. It would look cool but the photometric spectrum would suck and you would blind on coming traffic. The proper way to use LED headlights is to use a LED specific projector headlight assembly. This is because LED lamps emit light in two directions 180 degrees out as opposed to incandescent lamps that emit light 365 degrees and reflect off of the mirror facets on the back of the housing.

      If you purchase cheap, poorly engineered led bulbs, you’ll blind traffic. The Philips h4 ultinon led bulbs I have in my car (oem housings) have a clean cutoff and good beam pattern. Same with the Piaa 9006 led bulbs that I have in my truck (also oem housings). There is no more glare than halogen, the beam pattern is the exact same, but the color and light output is much nicer than the old sylvania silver star’s that I previously had. The problem with LED’s in housings not designed for them is 99% of people go for either the cheapest option of whatever has the best ratings on amazon, when almost everyone leaving reviews has no consideration for other people on the road and think all of the foreground light is fantastic, even though the beam pattern is terrible and they can’t see any further down the road

      The LED lighting hinges on only 1 thing...Is your headlight housing a "REFLECTOR" or a "PROJECTOR". Reflector housing will spray light all over the place (blinding oncoming drivers potentially). The projector housing already has a cutoff built in to the housing. You are good to go for non-OEM LED lights like Lasfit. They will work perfectly in a projector style housing. I have them on my '15 Outback w/ projector headlights. My wife's '12 Impreza Premium has reflector style housings and the same model Lasfit LED's installed -- sprays light everywhere.

      hANNAbONE that’s what you get when you install cheap, poorly engineered bulbs. Lol. Just because it has a good rating on amazon, doesn’t mean it performs well
