So a few years back I bought these two hooks and after installing a WARN from bumper sold the one I had for the front...but kept the rear one in place. Last weekend I was stuck stuck...had to use my winch, broke my cable and had to be winched out from the back Raceseng tow hook. It performed flawlessly... Thanks again for this video... 🎉
Order mines as soon as I saw this vid for my 2019 crosstrek, just arrived today and I have to say the craftsmanship that goes in this product is phenomenal. Will definitely buy more products from this company. Thanks for the vids .
Croostrek owners, check your trunks ( where emergency wheel is ) These cars already come with a tow hook. Though not with a fancy color and just one, you can definitely use in case of an emergency.
@@mackenziemuldoon5206 You aren't alone; many people don't. When I'm out patrolling during a snow storm, and when it comes to cars, I look for European cars to assist because they usually come equipped with these. In the rear of my own vehicle, however, I prefer a D-ring for the hitch. Connected to the frame, it's much stronger, centered, and allows greater side stresses.
For anyone trying to put this on their crosstrek themselves as I did: you have to make sure the hole in the cover is big enough for the nut to fit into, which will be bigger than the imprint given by the chalk. Otherwise the nut will not be tight enough to tow securely without denting the cover piece. Still, the chalk idea is a good way to center the hole. Also, the wrench needed to tighten the nut is so big I recommend buying the tool that comes with this product. I scratched my nut trying to do it without that tool as well.
My 2013 Mazda 3 owners manual calls those tiedown eyelets. They are stored under the trunk with the jack, lug wrench, jack handle, and spare tire. I believe they are used to keep the vehicle secured in place when in transit.
Raceseng is definitely a great company. I’ve had the opportunity to work with them when I was at Fastenal. They demand quality American made comments and lubricants and are extremely passionate about what they do.
Im actually buying my 2019 crosstrek tomorrow and im so excited. I cannot wait to install these tow hooks onto it once i get it and hoping thay have it, installation is simple enough that i can do it myself. and youre only a state away! so excited and cannot to see the transformations
I just bought a 19’ crosstrek as well. Love it. Although instead of paying $330 for 2 tow hooks, check out amazon. You can buy 2 hooks for $19.99. 9,500lb rating. The crosstrek comes with 1 tow hook pin already in the spare tire area. Just order another OEM pin for about $20 or less and boom... you got 2 tow hooks for less than $50 including shipping. Versus $330.00. Sure, those ones in the video may be “higher quality” but in the end, they are both steel hooks and have nearly the same tow rating.
Just bought a 2018 crosstrek and it’s awesome! Feels and looks great. These videos are perfect for me (I hike and climb and camp a lot) This is exactly what I needed so thank you ❤️
just picked up a 2019 a few days ago. love it, ive been watching these videos all year. i plan on doing all the same mods as you. thanks man. post some new updates.
I just did the paperwork on my 2018. It will be delivered in three days (a woman drove away with the one I wanted as I pulled into the dealer lot!). I need all these mods!
I ended up going on a roadtrip to get mine for dealership invoice...in the car for 5hrs but had what I wanted for $1500 less than local. Have had it since the last week of september and loved every minute.
I said it a couple weeks ago it's these small accents that are making this build so dope. Also gopro mount on a recovery point, I approve! Gotta look into these guys.
A receiver hitch in the rear with a bow shackle would do similar for similar $, but also allow you to mount a bicycle rack, mount a small cargo rack, or pull a light trailer. You might even be able to use a small multi-mount winch with it. The OEM recovery ring could be used in the front. I don't think there's a front receiver offered for Crosstreks, so using the multi-mount winch up front might not be practical.
For anyone looking to get these: if you have the factory towing package, you can't install a tow hook/shaft in the rear. The supporting brackets block the shaft receptacle. Be very careful using the provided tool; use it on the very end of the bolt. Otherwise (as I found out), it can very easily gouge the plastic cover. Other than that, seems to be a great quality product, and looks good.
These look way nicer than the OE towing hook / eye bolt that is included. I am not saying that you shouldn't run these full time but the Crosstrek manual states that if you don't remove them after towing they could interfere with airbag deployment or fuel cut off switch in a collision.
How much sheer stress can these hold? Like can you tow your car out of a ditch sideways with these? Obviously, shackles have a wide angle of pull, but typically those threads do not. Just curious how many 1000 lbs before snap.
Hi Talon just my personal notes... I have a 2018 crosstrek 6spd manual, and I've got 1800 miles on it. So far, per tank average, is 31-33mpg, which includes in town, bumper to bumper fwy commuting traffic, and some offroading. I live in So Cal. Slightly downhill to work, and slightly uphill coming home. The 6pd manual is every bit as good on fuel efficiency as the CVT and I'd say I could easily beat its efficiency. It has several ways of monitoring your gas consumption and it's pretty easy to get 35-39mpg on the hwy, going 70mph. Don't gun it all the time, and you'll save a lot of money in gas. I'm not convinced about the hype of the CVT having better gas mileage at all!
It gets super good fuel economy chilling in stop and go traffic. I get about 26mpg in mine around town but have averaged 33mpg on a 500mi trip out into hill country and back. The CVT gets better fuel economy by depriving you of driving style choices. You can drive a manual for economy as much as for fun. If you want to be grandma... and only go 55mph you can average 36mpg... as I did for the first 30mi stuck behind someone on that trip...
I had a question on some of your mods.. Does your TPMS still function with your 235/75-15’s and how deep can the rally lights be? I have found some 5” round leds that are 4” inches deep and I don’t want to melt the bumper or grill from possible touching due to the size of the lights. Thank you Shon
Just bought my 2018 Crosstrek in the Sunshine Orange color. Would love to see their tow hooks in white, may buy a pair in the future and spray paint them. Would be a nice contrast.
I just purchased a 2020 Crosstrek LIMITED in crystal white. I just came from a Jeep Renegade Trailhawk and missing my red accents. I need these! But possibly ORANGE to match the inside stitching.
dang i love that.. i partnered with Jarrett for my shift knob.. i would love these on my WRX.. you remind me a lot of myself in your techniques. i love the idea of keeping the cover also. i want these....
I would definitely purchase one of these. You sold me on the integrity of the company and the build of the product. I own a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek XV. I am going to start customizing it soon. Consider me Subscribed.
Love the red accents. Do they make any sort of locking nut or any type of mechanism to keep somebody from easily walking off with one of those? Would suck to have one go missing.
I saw the video you did driving in the snow yesterday night and commented about the tow hooks. I am going to be getting those in graphite. I have a 2015 xv same color as your crosstrex.
Any possible way we could get a measurement for that drill on the rear cover? Not so much the hole itself, but its placement. Like ".5" from left, .5" from top, 1" from right, and 1.5" from bottom... Something of the sort
Great vids. I found your channel looking for 2018 crosstrek stuff. Like the firearm vids too. Keep that sh** coming dude! Ps love those tow hooks. May need a set.
Hey man, do you know anything about keeping the front tow hooks in all the time can mess up the airbags? I’m looking at a plate relocation using that front spot but then was told it might mess up airbags.
Was looking at these to be installed on my 2020 Toyota c-hr crossover. I’m already ordering a shift knob and looking at their spitfire lug nuts. Just unsure of my thread type want it in a custom color design either in city lights or galaxy finish
Unfortunately keeping these in delays the deployment of the airbags (see the owners manual). Also this part of the bumper is not rated for recovery in an off-road situation. Using these will rip your bumper off. Especially if not using a snatch strap and pre-loading a regular tow strap. Please use the recovery point underneath the car or use a tow hitch receiver as a recovery point. Don’t use these for recovery and don’t delay your airbags!
Heya. Love your trek! A couple questions for ya. Is is black? Or dark grey? Can't seem to pinpoint it in the vids. Also, what did lifting and adding those tires do to your gas mileage? TIA!!
definitely going over to raceseng to pick something up ive been looking for high quality tow hook i subbed to because your different from all the other traveller youtubers out there.
How’s the 2.0 re act to the larger tires? Do you feel the 2.5 (forester)would be better suited for tires. I know re Gearing would be super expensive on the Subaru AWD system since we have three diffs.
That looks sweet. Is the threading the same on the 2014 CrossTrek? That's what I have and have used the stock one several times. Thought about doing something like this.
Hey man could you explain how you knew where exactly to drill the hole through the plastic cover?? The one that covers the tow hook cavity. The threaded toe hook holes are offset from the covers themselves. Thanks!
Talon i have been watching your gun videos and was excited when you purchased a crosstrek. I just purchased an orange 2018 crosstrek and have been looking for some mods and additions to do. I would definitely be interested in these tow hooks. 😀
Very cool! I was just thinking, any side pull may damage that little plastic bumper cap. What if you made the hole bigger and lined it with a rubber grommet. That may provide a wee bit of weather seal too! Good stuff, I subscribed.
Hey man, how're you doing with your crosstrek? I used to own a 2017 forester, it doing really good on snow and ice, when wheel slip the slip light flash up on the dash and I can fell ABS is activating and I almost not fell it skating at all. But with my 2018 crosstrek it doest skat a lot at corner and icy road and slipping light never flash nor ABS not even activate, is it does the same thing to your car on mine have problem?
What are you gonna do with that grill? I wonder it the Impreza sport grill will fit the Crosstrek? I think I am going to plasti-dip the silver winglets matte black until somthing better catches my eye. Peace, -Lou
I have a 2014 crosstrek. I love it. I’d really like to replace my halogen lights with leds. Is that possible?? Love to tow hooks. Gotta get some of those.
This exact reason is what's kept me from pulling the trigger on these hooks. I love the look and utility they offer. But I can't fathom spending that amount of money on them (2) just for someone to unscrew the hook and run off with over $400 worth of my equipment. Doesn't help that I live in a "not so friendly" area in the Greater Los Angeles area..... Hate people.....
Just wondering about the through body holes. With the cover removed there is room for some flex in the shaft of the tow hook. With your drilled holes any shaft flex is going to put pressure on the cover and body. If you do tow you might want to just pop the cover and let it be free on the shaft while you tow. Thoughts?
Someone else did this with their Subaru, don't remember the model. They drilled a hole through the cover and leave their towhook attached. It definitely does flex but if it flexes enough it actually just pops the cover out. That being said, it would definitely be a good idea to drill a bigger hole to accommodate the flex
I’m really interested in this product. Where do I start in buying process. I have the exact same car as you. Also was wondering if the rally bar u have will fit n led bar?
Nice video. Just bought my own 2018 Crosstrek last week. So, if I wanted to get the same set up I would order 2 of the 2015+ wrx/sti rear? Keep the Crosstrek videos rolling!
+Talon Sei Thanks, they are not inexpensive, but if I ever actually need to use them it will be worth every penny to. have high quality ones designed to do real work.

That’s some smooth looking hooks man! The color pops on your car. Hope you never have to “put them to good use”
it just keeps getting better

I have also a 18 fully loaded crosstrek before I saw this video I just bought a SSD light bar can't wait to install it and the tow hooks
Ordered that trayvax wallet that you shouted out a few days ago. And just got it today. I’m already loving it. Good quality wallet for sure.

Let me get this right, does the video at the end suggest that we buy 2 x rear end assemblies? As the rear is sakes as the front?
Thank you for holding those small pieces in front of your hand so we can actually see them clearly!😜
These look way nicer than the OE towing hook / eye bolt that is included. I am not saying that you shouldn't run these full time but the Crosstrek manual states that if you don't remove them after towing they could interfere with airbag deployment or fuel cut off switch in a collision.
I am definitely buying these, I also like that they give military / veteran discount. WRX/STI Rear for both
$165 each? So $330 total? Holy wowowowowow. That seems insane. I get it’s high quality... but that’s a lot of money for tow hooks.
No kidding!!!
My concern would be getting them stollen.
@@upondeathwish Same...not wise parking in a big city or public parking.

Sweet set up, I want some for my 23' wilderness outback

Toothpaste works well as a marking substance as well. Shout out to MCM for that tip.
Great videos on the Crosstrek. I just got a 2019 and your videos were a big factor in the decision.
Subaru, never considered but after watching i think this is a practical cool rig after your mods can't wait to see what you do next
I’ve got the rondure powder coated weighted knob from raceseng and also the reverse lockout from them. Loooove their stuff. 👍🏻
Your videos are super clean. Showing my friend who is in love with his STI your channel for sure
