This is not something that applies to everyone, but a simple example is when you are handling a bottle and its cap and the cap suddenly slips and falls off, and your hand immediately reacts to grab it and does so, but you didn't do that voluntarily, it was a muscle reflex and just after you stopped the cap from falling, you realize you did grab it. Now apply that example to combat with all that entails, attacking, evading, blocking and so on. Some Pro Martial artists already do this to some degree. The sad reality though is that in the anime its something you can learn and train, while in real life you are either built like that or not. You can only increase it slightly, or it can simply decay gravely with poor health and old age.
