$2000 divided by 6 months comes out to a little over $330 per month we spend that roughly every two weeks for my family of 5. We do also raise our own meat, eggs, and a lot of our own fruits/ veggies. For her family size that cost breakdown is very reasonable!! Still hurts thinking about price increases over the last couple years. Also keep in mind that she is buying a lot of organic products which easily doubles the price in most instances.
You guys are an excellent example of the adaptation it takes to not only exist but thrive in an ever evolving world. Thank you for the always informative and entertaining content.
I have a friend who lives in Canada and he told me how to make poutine. And it's very good. I see nothing wrong with having things easy for you and what I'd like to know is,do they do every meal, snack and desserts from scratch like you do? You're a busy wife and momma, who works her butt off taking care of her home and family. Can't ask for more than that ❤❤
I would definitely mount the chopper on the wall. I used to work in a Shorty Small's restaurant in Branson, Missouri in the early 90s. We had an industrial chopper like this. I chopped onions, potatoes, tomatoes, etc on this. I used to make pico, salsa, all the dressings, numerous kinds of salads and mozzarella sticks everyday. It was actually one of my favorite jobs!
What an adorable couple. I love that your content is real evidenced by the French French fry machine. I literally lol'd because everyone has had similar issues. Dan to the rescue! Poutine it is!
Thanks for sharing what you decide to make vs buy. I'm amazed at big families that can still prioritize quality! I'm number 7 of 8 kids and the foods of my childhood are all random tin can chef boyardee type meals. It's wonderful to see that you enjoy your kids and enjoy prioritizing their nutrition ❤ and fun! Enjoy your French fry cutter! It's great for onions too!
I’m so glad Dan came in to save the fries! It looks so satisfying to actually see them slice through.👏🏽 I bet sweet potato fries would be a breeze now!!!! 🤤
Collagen is a game changer for my joints I take a prepackaged single use liquid collagen as it stays fresher and more potent I agree with picking your battles such as buying simple items as opposed to making everything When you become a Senior you will be glad you reserved some energy stores for future Great videos Love your values and channel
As the baby of 8 growing up on a farm (47 now),remember all this! One of the benefits of buying in bulk,is reusing the large tubs and jars. Large glass jars can be filled with sea shells etc for seasonal decorations. Plastic can be used for storing dry foods, easier holding food in freezer ...and storage for t-post insulaters.
You are so wise. You don’t have to do it all. Time is precious and why not take advantage of convenience foods? You have so much energy and do so much for your family. No apologies.
Definitely mount french fry cutter on wall and it’s easy. We used to have concession stands and fries were out biggest seller. Smaller blade is for shoestring fries and you get more fries out of that blade but I prefer the larger fry. Have fun😊
Thanks for demonstrating the French fry cutter. I've had one in my Amazon wish list for a while. I think I would mount it vertically in my garage. It's just outside my kitchen. Hubby and I don't shop at Costco anymore. It's just not worth it for just the two of us. DIL gets a membership through her job. Right now, son and her are remodeling their house, so the membership is worth it for them if they had to pay for one.
I Like to see the items that you purchase from Costco. I also shop there. I'm a grandmother now with all adult children. When I had 5 children at home and was a school teacher, I did what I could to prepare nourishing homecooked meals. I appreciate your reasoning for buying some prepared foods. You literally can't have a job ( you have an abundance to do with your channel), and prepare all food 'from scratch." There are children to care for, a house to clean, etc. etc. Stay balanced and enjoy this phase of your life. I appreciate your hard work so much! Lee
Great haul & glad you got the fry cutter working! Thanks for sharing! After watching one of your videos I purchased a lot of grains from OM organic & am pleased with their prices & quality as compared to our little stores in our town. Thank goodness for farmers that we can get meat & eggs from locally. Have a great camping trip!
Hey glad I found your channel!! Anyway you mount that potato slicer on the wall and have a bucket under it to catch the potatoes. That is how the restaurants do it!!!!!!
Yes groceries are insane thank goodness we can grow our vegetables. Imagine what it would cost if you didn't have the opportunity to do that. Thank you for sharing know you are going to love the French fries tool.
Hello from PEI Canada.. The other side of Canada. There are no big box stores on the island so we drive 3 hrs to Moncton to shop at the stores and then 3hrs back to PEI. I understand your situation. We also shop online. Regular gas is $2.00 a liter.
the cutter works best on the wall --works great that way --worked with one many years ago and if you put a 5gal bucket with water in it you fries do not brown
Yes grocery costs are foolish. The cost of everything is foolish! I love those fry cutters. We have a similar version and I use it a lot. I found if the potato is on the small side I can turn the sticks and put them back in to get diced potatoes!
when I worked at a restaurant, we cooked the potatoes first as in boiling a huge pot. Then after cooled we used a machine similar to that and it worked very slick. Also made the fries very crisp. Otherwise, if you deep fry fresh potatoes the inside is never really done when the outside is crisp.
Lol I worked on many restaurants in my life and I knew something was wrong when you couldnt push the potato through ...it is fairly easy either way on counter or on wall ... too cute Now I'm making poutine cause grandkids are coming by to visit ❤
Our recent trip to Costco was a good $200 more than normal. We didn’t buy any laundry soap (Ecos) and very little organic chicken this trip. We also buy organic at Costco but the stuff there is still usually cheaper than at a grocery. We also buy stuff that we don’t grow. For us a $500 trip was insane. We have had $400+ trips but those were near Christmas and we had also purchased gifts. Plus it’s nearly an hour to get there. Before a recent move we had 2 within a 15 minute drive. The three packs of organic chicken breasts used to be in the $20’s are now in the $30’s. We do buy their whole chickens and cut them up them pt them thru the meal saver. We have watched their brand of TP and paper towel more than double over the years. They never have their organic salted butter anymore. 😞 I think we are all frustrated. Thank God the Fed didn’t raise the interest rates today. Yesterday we put 5 young roosters into the freezer so that is less chicken we need to buy. Every little bit helps. If you are here you are probably doing what you can to be prepared. Pat yourself on the back ladies/gentlemen for doing the hard work for you and your families.
I once used that french fry cutter in a restaurant when we were deciding to fresh cut our fries. We mounted it to the wall and i ripped it right off trying to cut the potato. We went back to ordering out fries.
It’s adorable you and Dan got to opposite sides of PA and meet up when done 😊 regarding collagen, there are some good medical studies on the benefits of collagen for reduced joint pain.
Just a thought Chelsea, I recently bought a case of 10 mangos for 9.99 in Northern Ontario. I was going to dehydrate them (which I have done in the past) but due to timing, I ended up freezing them and I think I will make mango jam. With your freeze dryer, you could easily dry the mango for quite a bit cheaper. Though I know it is something else to do so just a thought.
The price of butter has gone up quite a bit in Canada over the past year. I usually wait for it to go on sale and buy 20 lbs. Costco has the cheapest price normally.
At the restaurant I used to work at are the 14:07 potato slicer was put on the wall and we put a bucket underneath to cut french fries second cutter was attached to a table. It was a little harder to work with.
We also live 3-4 hours from our nearest Costco. We aren't in the city as often as we used to be so haven't gotten a membership for a couple years now, but love watching what you found there and the prices. My husband loves Princess Auto too. I go just because... but I really don't appreciate the smell in there, rubber! Lol
Chelsea you are a very intelligent lady and I absolutely love how you explain the rationale for why you do this and don’t do that. There are so many people out there who can be so negative and I love how you nib that in the bud and just tell it like it is. It’s all about being your best self and not apologizing for it! If you like store bought butter better then so be it and if you prefer to buy mayo because it’s easier for you then it just makes sense. Because at the end of the day you are so right it’s impossible to do it “all” or add more to our never ending to do lists. So it is so important to pick and choose what we have time to do and we can spend our money however we choose to do it. I think people don’t truly fathom the “total” cost of food for feeding such a large family because if you had to also purchase all your meat, dairy and eggs it would increase your grocery bill exponentially. It would be interesting to know how the price of feed for your animals places in to your overall food budget and if you’ve ever done a break down on what the real costs are for raising your own egg layers and what a dozen eggs costs you? Of course the quality of your homegrown food is second to none and I’m positive is way fresher and nutrient dense then anything you could purchase through the regular supply channels. Also I’m curious with raising your own beef if you make your own tallow(I’ll have to search back on your channel and see if you’ve shown us) I recently had the chance to render some tallow and it turned into an incredibly white and beautiful clean source of fat. I’m just not sure how I would use it? They say it makes amazing French fries we rarely have them so it would definitely be a treat. But I’m also wondering if it would be good just to fry some eggs in or to use as a base oil for cooking. I’ve not noticed any actual flavour from it and perhaps it’s just a very clean version? Loved your French fry cutter and was so bummed when it wouldn’t work to begin with and I was wondering if there was some plastic preventing it, so satisfying to see them finally go through and that you could do it yourself. I was thinking you may want to also use the suction cups in addition to wall mounting if it’s possible to have both it may just help with the leverage as well? Would love to watch you make French fries and your poutine gravy and cheese curds. Do you make your own cheese curds? I have no clue how to do that and would love to learn how to make my own. Always enjoy your videos! Keep them coming!!! 🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦
The saddest and most maddening thing to me, with these obscene food prices is the fact that food is a necessity…it is not a frivolous luxury. How I would love to see the year end profits these big grocery conglomerates end up with. And, I’m also sure the farmer isn’t reaping grand rewards. I live in New England, the state of Vermont. A few short years ago dairy farming was the main “industry”. So many farmers have gone belly-up. because of not making enough money to sustain their farms. Again- - very sad and maddening 😡.
We have a similar French fries cutter and we ordered one with 4 cutting sizes but we only use one size. My husband is the only one that can do it. If you put it a little lower it helps. We didn’t have a wall mount. We make French fries once a week and it is a favorite of ours. It works better with softer potatoes too so don’t do sweet potatoes without cooking them a little first. Great if you soak in water to remove starch but we haven’t been doing it recently. Super easy to do ahead and soak.
Yes it’s expensive and this is the real world as we all live in. United States, California and any state in US is so expensive. Eggs, and everything. Our world now. Have a large family must be outrageous. I’m a family of two and I’m RN and a Tech Pro. It’s still crazy. Blessings always ❤
You probably already know this but iodized salt doesn’t stay super long in long term food storage so putting it through rotation would be the best bet. Out bodies need a little iodine (specifically our thyroid) so a little bit is always 👍🏻
I bought my husband the same french fry cutter at princess auto for his birthday (he's a fanatic for french fries) and what a breeze to use, I found it easier to cut if mounted vertically on the wall instead of using it on the counter and if the potatoes are a bit soft it's hard to push them through.
I have one of those fry cutters identical to that and it’s cuts through very easy mine just sits on counter. Double check blades to make sure they are on correctly 🤗
Cut potato in half and put pointed end in first, not flat end. Make sure you wet feet of slicer so it won’t slide on counter, don’t give up till you keep trying. You will bend slicer grates if you put to much pressure.
I was watching a tutorial where they use the French fry cutter to cut apples and freeze dry them. They also put caramel in a ketchup bottle and drizzled it on the apples and they picked the seeded core out then freeze dry as a caramel apple. Found this interesting
I would say that keeping homegrown animals are in many cases more expensive per egg/pound/kg than buying from stores. If you have a farm "Amish"-style, maybe more physical hardwork. If you have/need a tractor..well, diesel.. Backyard chicken..very expensive eggs..buying feed( if you want eggproduction) positive is you get good compost.
Yes, I think growing your own organic vegetables can potentially be a bit cheaper if you're just doing the work by hand and starting the plants from seeds .. but then you have your time to account for. Grain is so expensive, It costs us a lot to Keep our flock of 60 ducks and chickens and food, especially in the winter. We offset the cost a little bit by selling some eggs. Even Hay is expensive! (There's a reason why "cheap" food is actually something that doesn't really exist in the real world.)
@@BeeBeornit’s all worth it in the end. The quality of the eggs my chickens give me are sooo much better than store bought. People don’t realize until they try them. My girls are more like pets.
It sounds like the blades are backwards. I have one that has 4 legs to stand and mine works fantastic! It’s easy to get the blades backwards. Be careful! I also like to Cut carrots on it and onions too! The only problem with doing onions is the fine paper-like divider gets stuck and dries on between the blades and needs to soak off. I hope you have fun with yours. I got mine from Amazon
I love your channel love what you're doing in your garden love your videos your potato slicer you can also slice the tomatoes and put the slices in there and it'll make beautiful little cubed tomatoes you can also do it with zucchini squash carrots turnout beautiful too
Great food staples right there! We have noticed the huge change in food prices too, it seems just recently we were paying just over $3 for butter at Costco, now it's more than double that! Greetings from the lower mainland, have a beautiful weekend!
If they use stevia for a sweetener it is so sweet. It’s similar to artificial sweetener. I never drink anything with it in because of how sweet it is and the after taste.
I used to work in a dairy bar with fresh cut fries. It was wall mounted and worked really well. Just make sure you’ve something beneath it to catch the fries
I grew up in Maine and would visit my Aunt and Uncle north of Montreal and we eat poutine almost every day we were there so yummy! Please show how you make it, maybe I can recreate it here in Dallas, TX
My son when he was a teenager he worked at a fry place. I think they only had fries. They had one of those on the wall and it was fast. He is now 57 so that was many years ago. Hope you mount it on the wall so it will be easy. God Bless! 20:24
very best way to mount the fry cutter is veridically on a wall .. they work amazing and I'm a chef and have cut too many buckets of fries to count .. you are going to love it .. the suction style isn't that great not even sure why they offer it LOL .. that is definitely a good one!
I think you might want to return that potato cutter and get one that can sit vertically on the counter. I think most profrssional cutters are vertical, a horizudesign is strange and not very efficient. Even a strong person would struggle with this horizontal design because the suction cups dont stay in place.
We stopped buying the mango at costco when it became more than 20$ a bag. I get mangos in the summer from restaurant depot they are huge. I dehydrate them in the dehydrator in the form of fruit leather. That what we have now. We may have to live without it through the winter. I totally understand about burning out on making things from scratch. I just let go of the Costco mango because it does have extra sugar we don't need.
Cutters like those do much better with firm potatoes. That first one was a bit soft. Maybe that was the issue? I would LOVE one of those but have nowhere to put it to use. Glad you got it working in the end.
I see a little rise in food prices but they have gone done in my area from the ridiculous prices they were. I love my Costco haul. Ours was only $200. I stocked up on some organic items and coffee. I only go every 2-3 months. It’s nice having gardens and fruit trees and bushes. I have apple butter in my crock pot right now.
"we choose our battles." Wise! Encouraging. Thanks :)
You guys are an excellent example of the adaptation it takes to not only exist but thrive in an ever evolving world. Thank you for the always informative and entertaining content.
Yes, groceries in US have substantially increased in prices too. I'm stockpiling as much as I can thinking of the winter fuel costs too. 😢
Can't ask for more than that ❤❤
doing gardening is just enough to take most of your time. take it easy on other stuff from scratch when you can. enjoy your life.❤
You can use your fry cutter for you onions too
I would definitely mount the chopper on the wall.
Yes, choosing our battles is a good lesson! It takes a bit, but yes!
Great now you need to dig more potatoes it never ends ❤ Have a great day everyone
Comparing food prices is an everyday conversation now in our family. Thank goodness for my allotment!
Hope you're all safe and sound!
I love non-electric kitchen tools and wish a French fry cutter was necessary for the two of us! Could you do a video sometime when you make poutine?
U put a huge smile on my face girl… it’s the simple joys that matter, and in todays video it’s the fry slicer… LOOOOOVE IT….
I’m so glad Dan came in to save the fries! It looks so satisfying to actually see them slice through.👏🏽 I bet sweet potato fries would be a breeze now!!!! 🤤
Yehhh!! Dan!!🦸♂️
The blades might be in backwards.
Mount it on the wall it is so much easier, and you can do more than fries . We use it to cut veggies too.
The French fry cutter issue was riveting content! 😂 I loved the family style problem solving!
Collagen is a game changer for my joints
I take a prepackaged single use liquid collagen as it stays fresher and more potent I agree with picking your battles such as buying simple items as opposed to making everything
When you become a Senior you will be glad you reserved some energy stores for future
Great videos Love your values and channel
As the baby of 8 growing up on a farm (47 now),remember all this!
One of the benefits of buying in bulk,is reusing the large tubs and jars.
Large glass jars can be filled with sea shells etc for seasonal decorations.
Plastic can be used for storing dry foods, easier holding food in freezer ...and storage for t-post insulaters.
Omg, your Costco run was a fortune. I love your honesty and you deserve to soil yourself when ever you feel like it.
make a bracket and mount on a wall..... put a 5 gallon bucket under to catch fries... i had one in my resturant worked great
You are so wise. You don’t have to do it all. Time is precious and why not take advantage of convenience foods? You have so much energy and do so much for your family. No apologies.
Hey, came upon your channel. Great Costco haul. Can't wait to watch your other videos. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome!
hi, dont feel rained on, we all have had that kind of problem, like the potato fry maker.
Definitely mount french fry cutter on wall and it’s easy. We used to have concession stands and fries were out biggest seller. Smaller blade is for shoestring fries and you get more fries out of that blade but I prefer the larger fry. Have fun😊
I have one of the French fry cutter. If you cut off thread and you have to make sure it on straight. If the potato is crooked it is hard to cut.
With my fry cutter I have found that cutting the end of the potato facing the blades will make it much easier to push through.
I’m glad Dan figured it out. It’s going to get a lot of use❤❤❤
I appreciate you saying to chose your battles. I do the same at this stage in my life. Well done.
This was great ! I love your cosco hauls. Congrats on your French fry machine. It made your heart happy. Be blessed friend.
I saw the French fry cutter done by a small woman on another channel and she made it look very easy. Living traditions homestead😊
Those beautiful wooden walls are so beautiful I wouldn't want to mount anything on them! Beautiful
I have one of those fries cutter and mounted it on the wall and it was much easier to use.
Loved your French fry cutter adventure. I felt your pain when it didn’t seem to work. Nine people would eat a lot of fries❤. Yum!
I Like to see the items that you purchase from Costco. I also shop there. I'm a grandmother now with all adult children. That French get cutter sounds like fun. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, zucchini and squash all make great fries and poutine.
Great haul & glad you got the fry cutter working! Thanks for sharing! Hey glad I found your channel!! Anyway you mount that potato slicer on the wall and have a bucket under it to catch the potatoes.
That is how the restaurants do it!!!!!!
Welcome!!
The Princess store is amazing. Nothing like that around me. Your Costco items are very different from ours. Great haul.
Yes groceries are insane thank goodness we can grow our vegetables. Imagine what it would cost if you didn't have the opportunity to do that. Thank you for sharing know you are going to love the French fries tool.

North Western NB here. 2 hours to Fredericton for Costco. No bridge toll though.
We try to make our trips count with the price if fuel
the cutter works best on the wall --works great that way --worked with one many years ago and if you put a 5gal bucket with water in it you fries do not brown
Hi from Kentucky. I wish we had a Costco closer, they seem to have more organic than Sam’s
We have this wall mounted in my restaurant, we also use the raw ffries for our mashed potatoes so we don't have to stand and cut 50 ibs of potatoes.
Yes grocery costs are foolish. The cost of everything is foolish! I love those fry cutters. We have a similar version and I use it a lot. I found if the potato is on the small side I can turn the sticks and put them back in to get diced potatoes!

I love you content. You have such variety.
Put the cut fries in water until you cook them. It will keep them from turning black from oxidation.
Just a thought Chelsea, I recently bought a case of 10 mangos for 9.99 in

I have the same potato cutter and I have to put a bit of force into it but can do it. I am wondering if something is set up wrong on it.

I also use my French fry cutter when canning. Perfect for beats, potatoes etc.
I have that french fry cutter from p/auto and I love it!!
If you haven’t mounted it yet, I’ve seen if you pull the handle toward you its easier
I've worked in many restaurants and I think you would still enjoy the wall mounted better. Having the bowl right underneath 👍😁❤️

Re: the French fry cutter...It works best as a wall mount AND with fresh potatoes. You should check one out at a restaurant in town.
Yummmm, delicious food choices to go along with home grown. Seaweed though, how is it used? Blessings to you and your family.
Wall mount yes. Also great for onions and bell peppers
Wow! You are right...food costs a whole bunch!😊
I got a ff cutter just like yours a few months ago. We love it!!!
Once I get a potato stuck in there I have to have my husband do it. I gotta push it super fast and it works well.
At In and Out Burgers, it is wall mounted and potatoes are peeled. They have the best fries!
❤❤❤❤ love ALL of your videos ❤❤❤❤ thank y'all for sharing with us ❤
I was watching a tutorial where they use the French fry cutter to cut apples and freeze dry them. They also put caramel in a ketchup bottle and drizzled it on the apples and they picked the seeded core out then freeze dry as a caramel apple. Found this interesting
Vertical mount is what IN-N-out uses.
Can you imagine the cost if you didn't have your own meat, dairy, chickens, eggs and summer produce?? 😳
But keeping in mind also that she mentioned mostly everything they purchased is for the next 3 to6 months of consumption.
But! Nothing beats the freedom of growing your own food and having freedom from the government and big food companies
Thank you for sharing ❤Linda from iowa.😊
I love your channel love what you're doing in your garden love your videos your potato slicer you can also slice the tomatoes and put the slices in there and it'll make beautiful little cubed tomatoes you can also do it with zucchini squash carrots turnout beautiful too
We call them chips in UK,the really skinny one's are French fries over here
Great food staples right there! We have noticed the huge change in food prices too, it seems just recently we were paying just over $3 for butter at Costco, now it's more than double that! Greetings from the lower mainland, have a beautiful weekend!
I only buy when on sale now
Then stock up ...I go without till then
I live in Ontario...I buy butter every week at $4.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart...
It’s crazy they make sugar free sodas so sweet, much more than regular sodas. I water mine down about 1/2 with water. Saves $ too.
Yep
You can get the pink salt that isn't iodized
