Totally brilliant as usual!!! One thing that I keep thinking - measure the capacitance of the donor, note it and mention it, then you (and others) dont need a donor board for that 5 cent cap when it needs replacing!!!
Excellent videos mate. I'm in Australia on a disability pension and learning from youtubers like you how to repair, restore and modify consoles (modding is legal here) and other electronics repairs. I recently watched your video on solder mask paint and it was a massive help to repair and restore my car's ECU. Looking forward to watching more of your videos, thank you for your hard work (=
Just wanted to thank you for these videos. I managed to fix my asus motherboard by soldering smd capacitors, resistor and mosfet from a donor board.. I have been doing the macrosize soldering for years but these microscopic smd seemed very hard.. Your videos gave me the courage to practice on an old broken camera pcb I had lying around and then use the sra fastchip rework set to do the smd soldering.. Thank you for these videos. These are super helpful for amateurs/hobbyists like me.
Hi, You give the impression that repairing is a very simple task. Through the microscope, everything looks so big, even your tiny tools. But what makes it feel easy is that almost every video you make is a success. Can you put together some clips where you didn't succeed? can't see a burnt parts, can't measure a short, or after soldering everything is still broken? a no fix collection to show what the job is like? don't get me wrong, I think you make a very good job! you are the best! but it would be happy to see you are just cook with water too.
Excellent work as usual. I would like to ask you to make a video on how to use the multimeter in all modes. I have one but I can't find a video that teaches everything with clarity. Thank you in advance.
I repair vacuum cleaners and sewing machines, more analog than digital. I do admire your soldering skills and people don't understand how difficult it is to learn this stuff plus having a steady hand. In the end, we are making people happy because big corporations just want you to buy more junk. They pay lip service for repair. I have more than one manufacturer say "just sell them another one."
@@pabloascencio7397 its more than that. sure the money is nice but when you fix something, there is a certain endorphin rush that is really nice. At least for some people.

This stuff is fascinating to me! I wish I had the brain capacity to understand how to measure and inject voltage, and know how all these capacitors and mofettes work!
On the PS4's they were always the APU's and sometimes the ram but on the ps5's it's commonly to have a blod due to quite a few things including shorted caps, etc.
@@fadetonoir6152 Great point. People throw around these phrases and can mean different things when they do. This was a clear On/Off symptom (short somewhere), rather than what many of us in repair would regard as a BLOD. Of course, all these names can be a catch-all expression for many different faults to a repairer, but to a user they just see a symptom and a console that doesn't work. 🙂
Every time you fix somthing you smile 😃 like you fix something for the first time. Fixing thing makes you happy everytime. Do feal sad when deemed things a no fix?
that dinky little component shutting down the whole system. Crazy. Reminds me of the office episode with Dwight "A three ounce fetus is calling the shots. That's so bad ass!"
If he only had it for a week and bought it new it is still under warranty. If he bought it used then he should contact the seller. As for losing his data, that is what the PS+ cloud service is for. My PS5 I got in June (brand new) had a problem with stick drift on the controller and the blu ray drive stopped working as on the console, all within 4 months. Both were sent back to Sony separately and replaced (I doubt they repaired them). I then just had to reinstall all my games and download all my game saves as well. If you don't have PS+, then you need to back up game saves to an external source regularly.
When you inject voltage, do you limit the amount of amps in the bench source? Or let him pull as much amps as needed? Could you make some different videos, for example, not using a thermal camera? Or with other short detection methods... It would be very educational for your audience and have variety for your videos. Thanks for the content and congratulations!
Good day my friend, I watch your videos everyday on youtube and can clearly see that you are the best in my opinion. Do you work on HP Officejet Pro 8610 PRINTER PRINT HEAD?
How does big boss handle the liquid metal thermal paste re-application when he re-assembles? What about other laptops and consoles? Does he clean the old paste and re-apply new paste each repair?
Find the value of the cap and install a new one. If you can't find the value online (from schematics or someone who's tested it before) then you could remove the next cap in line and measure that, as they will most likely be the same. Or, when you have a few caps in parallel like that, they're all doing the same job so the device will probably work without one of them, so you could just leave it off.
When I see how often those larger SMD caps fail in PS5s, I get a little worried, that those parts are a major weak point in the design (as is the HDMI port) 🧐
Bob, (Boss of all Bosses) needs his own channel.🙌 His new camera angle and action is great!

The HDMI ports on the PS5 isn't that bad. It's mostly people yanking out the cable forcefully instead. You see the same issues with other devices.
It concerns me Sony knows the design is flawed and doesn't make running changes to it to make it reliable.
