      He gets nothing, because he was not pardoned, but paroled. And this decision of Virginia's Governor is correct:
      Jens Soering killed two people brutally, that is proven multiple times. He is a pathological liar who accuses other people falsely.

      @@edplaysdrums8435 He planned the murder together with his girlfriend. She stayed in Washington D.C., trying to create an alibi while he drove to Charlottesville and committed the murders.
      She was sentenced to 90 years after she confessed and was paroled same time he was. Then she was deported to Canada, her native country.

      His false confession was his own fault he falsely confessed to protect his girlfriend who did commit the crime. He thought in his naive teenaged mind that he would have diplomatic immunity. He knew she did it and he lied thinking he could protect her from punishment and he would not face as harsh a sentence himself under his supposed diplomatic immunity. I just can't feel that much sympathy for somebody who does something like that with all things being considered. I just want to add there's still really no proof that he did not do it too they may have both participated in the murders and this is all just a lie. Anything is possible I personally find it very suspicious.

      It's important to keep in mind that he has been asserting that he intentionally provided a false confession to protect his girlfriend from the death penalty. Therefore, having legal representation would actually hinder his goal, right? In fact, a lawyer would stop him from sharing any damaging information, which would undermine his attempt to "save" her. Interestingly, he also alleges that he was denied the right to an attorney, which is untrue. Guilty as charged.

  • @michaelbagley9116
    @michaelbagley9116 4 роки тому +19

    False confessions are a serious problem. Factually, police are trained to pick out those people vulnerable to do this kind of thing. They call it getting a criminal to save them the trouble of a trial. They don't care to actually check the confessions out. Police even feed the details and help them write their confessions. Their own training manuals for interrogation discuss this and checking out confessions. Unfortunately, they only care about their stats and their guts. Putting an innocent man or woman in jail or on death row means nothing to them.

While his story is sad, and I'm glad he is free now, I'm not sure it is a good example of how innocent people are coerced by the police into confessing to a crime. There are many more examples that could have been used.

    • @elyzamarie8209
      @elyzamarie8209 4 роки тому +2

      He wasn't coerced, he intentionally went into the interrogation with the intent to confess "to protect his girlfriend." He's the son of a German diplomat so he thought that he would be able to be sent back to Germany to serve his time (which he figured 10 years max) in a juvenile detention (19 is/was considered a juvenile there I guess) instead of his girlfriend getting executed for the murders in America but obviously he didn't get to go back & have his trial in Germany & being a diplomats son in the US did nothing for him so bam 33 years later... That's his story anyway.

    The problem is that mentally ill persons would also confess to a crime they were not involved in. The police knows that in high profile cases (think serial killers) the weirdos come out of the woodworks. Usually they hold back some details of the crime so they can differentiate between a crazy person and one that must have been there. - On the other hand high profile crimes incentivize them to find someone that the prosecutor can put behind bars. A "success" and if the person is poor, has some criminal record they are an ideal target for that. Ask Amy Klobuchar how that works.
    It is not only the injustice and the costs for the taxpayer, the guilty person is still on the loose.

    Both killed the parents! Both are liars and smart, and thought they could outsmart everyone. Jens Soering ONLY recanted his confession when he did not get what he wanted: to be tried in his home country Germany, to receive a lighter sentence! And just when is the last time you heard of anyone confessing to a murder to cover for their love? DOES NOT HAPPEN! Both are guilty... it's a no brainer. Elizabeth had motive to kill and was manipulative. Jens could have said no way, though. But I guess he had something to prove. Furthermore, that man is doing way too much talking. He has a UA-cam channel. If you're innocent you don't have to do all of that. Truth fights for and defends you - it's that powerful. He just cannot shut up, lol. We know why, Jens!!!
    Criminologist's say it's not possible for it to have been a one person crime, too. Both Elizabeth and Jens talked about doing it in letters (before and after the crime).

    We will never know the complete truth. With two such entitled privileged academically gifted individuals like this... the details will always remain a mystery. I remember this case very well and from what I recall ... this was not a stranger on stranger murder. Unless these two love birds were cursed with one coincidence after another...they were both involved.
