"Crowned Heads" and "All that Glitters" Tom Tryon's Hollywood novels are 10 horror stories interconnected by the business of show and not tell, truth over reality and the brightest dark holds the darkest light. Incredible books. Thank you for this. New subscriber.
I was a big fan of Tom Tryon, although I have to say I preferred LADY and THE OTHER to CROWNED HEADS (although I thought Fedora was by far the best of the stories in that book).
I loved the book and the movie. I loved the dubbed voice of Inga Bunsch. She had a very breathy voice. Marthe Keller is swiss and speaks French and German. Hildegard Kneff ( Neff) spoke German.
This is the best explanation ever for this film which I saw in my late teens while I still lived in Cuba and found deeply disturbing. I didn't see Sunset Blvd until I was in my late 30s, long after Fedora and long after emigrating to the US. I now can, with your help, see the similarities in content. I loved Fedora. Even as a teen I understood that the kind of acting was no longer the norm for Hollywood. Someone here mentioned miscast, I strongly disagree. Wilder wanted the kind of acting that made those Hollywood golden years successful and oscar winners. Had he made this film in the late 50s, even very early 60s, it would have been a huge hit.
Thanks for reviewing this. As far as I know, this is one of only two Fedora reviews on YT.

I loved that film. So unusual and tragic.

Great review, I have placed it on my william holden youtube channel in the playlist of reviews
This is fascinating, but I'm confused by one thing... why do you refer to William Holden's character as Max?
I remember going to the craft theaters in LA in the late 70s early 80s and the small crowds, heck even the venues were tiny.
imagine that movie with faye dunuway and marlene dietrich....
That would have been something... Or just imagine if they hadn't revoiced Hildegarde Neff!
Wilder asked Dietrich! She was indignant.
@@haps2019 But Dietrich defaulted indignant. Geez, what an ego!
@@michaelrandall4862 Yeah, but Wilder should have known... ;-)
Faye Dunaway would be very emotional as Fedora (Antonia).
Inga Bunsch did the voice of Fedora/Countess Sobriansky
I loved Inga Bunsch breathy voice. I can imitate her. What may I ask is a CHEESEBURGER! LOL Does my body bore you?
