    Ruger is on fire with their offerings. I'm not the biggest Ruger person, but they're putting out a more diverse selection of quality firearms than any other company I can think of. Browning is in that running too, but they need to offer a few more things. Who wouldn't want to see a Browning 1911?

      Who wants a .380 1911 though? Anything less than.45acp isn't a real 1911. Anyway, I'm pretty sure they get them from another manufacturer and slap their own stamp on it.

      chzzg269, I'm with you. My first pistol was a 22/45 with a bull barrel. I sold it because it was a pain to get back together after cleaning. I bought an SR9 about three years ago. I put about 150 rounds every week through it, and have ever since I got it. That gun just flat out SHOOTS. If I do my part it puts 'em right in there. I'm looking at 1911's and Ruger is at the top of my list.

    Chad I have to tell you as another 1911 owner it is really refreshing to see someone who uses the slide release rather than pull back on the slide to chamber the first round. I have Springfield 1911 and the was one of the first thing I did to it was to get an extended slide release so I could manipulate the gun with one hand

    My wife and I have the full size SR1911, a Lightweight CMD .45, and a Lightweight CMD .9mm. My wife carries the .9mm, and I carry the Lightweight CMD .45 (among other guns). She carries hers in a fanny bag, and I use a DeSantis Mad Max IWB holster. We've had zero problems, and they are exceptionally accurate.

    SR1911 owner here: absolutely love the gun. The failure to feed issues are common while the gun is new and tight. I actually swapped out the recoil spring for a 16 lb spring, the factory spring is rated at 18.5. That seemed to do the trick

    @patmancrowley8509 7 років тому +1

    Polishing the feed ramp really helps overcome some of the feed issues. Using factory ammunition also reduces feed issues. I used to shoot "Black Hills" ammo and just had feed issue after feed issue especially with my Thompson. It just seemed like the loading was a bit weak. When I switched over to shooting Federal and Winchester ammunition the problems went away.

    Agreed... nice entry-level platform with room for upgrading. It's so expensive now to start out with a really high quality 1911, especially with modern platforms being competitively priced, you'd really have to just want one for the nostalgia of it.

    5:40 As funny as that was, this also can help serve as a important lesson for newer shooters. Always know what's behind the target. Yes, it was just a 2 liter soda, but had that been a situation where active response was needed, that could have been a innocent bystander. Not ragging on nor bashing the channel, just figure that'd be a good lesson to show and further explain to newer shooters gun safety and knowing what's down range.

    • @austinbell1044
      @austinbell1044 7 років тому

      Brian Coleman are you stupid, when your carrying you don't carry ball ammo for that very reason you carry a hollow point cause that wont go through as much as ball ammo, what a little armature 12 year old.

    • @briancoleman9330
      @briancoleman9330 7 років тому

      First of all, someone needs a hug and a snickers. Second of all, I am still learning the in's and out's of firearms and ammo. Third of all, while I do appreciate your valuable input, I must reject your negativity, as I've already got enough of that in my own life, dealing with bills, keeping the family fed, the car running, and the lights on. Fourth of all, I do believe that you meant "Amateur", not "Armature", since "Amateur" means one whom has little understanding and is looking to learn, while "Armature" means either: A.) A form of armor. B.) A electromagnetic lock that engages with a electric current and C.) A skeletal frame work that of which supports a clay, wax or a plaster sculpture.

    • @briancoleman9330
      @briancoleman9330 7 років тому

      You also have seemed to have missed the context of the meaning of my original post. I'm talking about having a clear sight behind your target and knowing what is behind it. Not the difference between ball ammo and hollow point ammo.

    • @austinbell1044
      @austinbell1044 7 років тому +1

    I wouldn't say its a bare bones gun....thats a 1911A1... the Ruger is more like the best of the basic 1911... series 70, target trigger, extended beaver tail...etc. What one would do to a GI style 1911 if they had one and the SR1911 has all that out of the box.

    The adjustment screw on the trigger you are referring to only adjusts trigger slop... If you go too far in with it, you can render it inoperative. Have a trigger job done to it. A good gunsmith can do a safe trigger down to around 2 lbs. if you want. I did my own and have it set at 4 lbs. It is amazing. Best pistol trigger ever designed.

    I'm an average height small build guy, and I've conceal carried a full size Magnum Research 1911 for years. I acknowledge that I'm sacrificing capacity by doing so, but my reasoning is this; I have 4000 rounds through it and I've had 2 malfunctions. 1) Remington "match grade" Ammunition squib load, 2) I limp wristed it on the 2nd round of the first mag I put through it. I get a kick out of the fact that a small build guy like me can carry a full size WWII duty gun completely concealed.
    I know 1911s have a reputation, but I think you'll find that if you have a modern gun you'll get what you pay for.

    Congrats on getting a 1911. I have many buddies that have them and they say I'm "unamerican" as well. To be honest, when I was a teenager I wanted a S&W 4506, so that is what I ended up buying. I have never had 1 failure to fire with that pistol. It also fits my hand better than a 1911. I've shot a lot of my friends 1911's, but they are too thin for my liking. I have big mitts and prefer the bigger grip of the 4506. When my buddies start talking shit, I have to remind them in a little friendly competition like a dueling tree or bowling pin shoot, then the shit talking goes away.. They take their ass whipping and I don't hear much after that for a while. So don't feel bad. With your pistol, I'd throw that mag away that was giving you issues. NO one wants a ill feeding pistola. Also, the groups you guys were shooting, were not real impressive. Its been over 5 years since you released this video, it it still shooting like that, or has it gotten better over time????

    Army should have gone with ruger for their new sidearm, troops are saying they are not fond of the sigs. More money and not even made here. Some palms were greased on that one.

    Chad I feel you in regards to the 1911 trigger vs a striker fired gun. i picked up a 1911 a few days ago and it shoots great but I definitely need to get used to that trigger.

    Another great vid, I just picked up the rock island 1911 a1 tactical , has about a 4 lb trigger, it's a great shooting gun . I have the ruger sr45 and the r. I . Has less recoil then the ruger. Paid only 460 so quiet pleased. Thanks Eric and Chad

    I'm new to 1911s also. Just got my SR1911 a couple months ago but man..... Chad, you've had more feed issues in one video with your target SR than I have ever had with my 500 rounds of ball/Range ammo with my SR1911 plain Jane Ruger. 😜 Good shootin tho. Love the videos guys! 😎😎

    my sr1911 was all factory and i mainly shot freedom munitions 230gr reman fmj out of it. i bought it for $650ish, put a couple hundred rounds through it and resold it for the same $650.
    i loved the way it looked and i was very accurate with it. i only ran wilson combat 47d 8rd mags in it because i have a lot of them.
    my stock sights never broke off which was apparently an earlier problem.
    ive got another 1911 gov (5in) that has the grip bobtailed but the fullsize ruger was more comfortable to shoot with the full grip.
    my bobtail 1911 has a full length guide rod unfortunately. i like the gi style recoil system for takedown.
    i had a sig 1911 scorpion for a while which also was very nice...aside from the scorpion grips and paintjob. it was the sig profile not the traditional model which i did not like aesthetically.
    ive got a springfield lightweight champion operator in .45 now which is a little snappy but carries easier. ive also got a kimber 9mm tac pro II which shoots and carries like a dream but is more of a range gun.
    when i carry a .45 it is an hk uspc which i have full confidence in.
    i like the rugers a lot. rock island is very popular. i didnt like how the desert eagle 1911 says it across the slide. i had a gi model remington so i cant speak on the r1.
    cant speak on the other 1911s like ati, citadel and whatever the others are.
    i do believe money is well spent and kept with buying the ruger. id opt for the commander if you can find it or the 9mm.
    i also like the s&w e series and sig 1911's but not for my only 1911
    never played with a dan wesson or springfield trp but they seem to be the next step up

      That’s crazy. Took it to my local gun shop after 2 years and purchasing it for about $700 and they offered me $200. I told them “so I bough a rock island 1911 from you for $425 and sold it back to you after 4 years for $200 and you are giving me the same for a nicer gun?” He had nothing to say. First time I ever called someone a piece of shit to their face and first time I was told to leave a gun store.
      Figure I’ll keep the gun.

    It's funny. Everyone always says 1911's are unreliable (and you do see some of that in the video) but I have never had a single issue with my stock cheapo SAM Elite 1911, and it was only $450 when I bought it.

    My Ruger SR1911 Target has a far better trigger from the factory than any of the Glocks, S&W M&Ps, etc that I've owned. Those striker fire pistols all have had gritty, heavy, sloppy triggers instead of the crisp break of the SR1911.

    Gotta test the mags in your guns when it comes to 1911's, especially given there are THREE types of feed lip designs floating out there. My gun, a Thompson Custom 1911 with some Wilson guts dropped in works the best with the "wadcutter" and "Hybrid" feed lip designs. The GI type feed lips give me the most issues.

    I love my Ruger SR1911Ss. Of course, I also love my Remington 1911R1S. The first 1911 I bought was a Remington 1911R1. I wanted a stainless, but they didn't have one at the time, so I settled on a blue. When I got my Ruger stainless 1911s I gave my blue to one of my boys. I kick myself for doing that now, but it's okay.

    Great shooting! And a really fun range - I'm envious! I used to have a Colt 1911 (series 80 stainless steel) and it was always my favorite to shoot, but for cleaning and maintenance, I'd take my Glock 20 any day. To completely strip the 1911, it would take me a half hour with a bench, a handful of tools and the manual open in front of me. The Glock took 5 seconds, no tools!
    Seriously!
    But the Glock just didn't fit in my hand the way the 1911 did. Oh, well.

    • @SwordFighterPKN
      @SwordFighterPKN 7 років тому

      yeah the 1911 is a pain to strip down especially when you but the guide rod and a comp on it. But like someone else mentioned it is 2017 and we are still talking about the 1911, I wonder will the Glock have the same thing happen in 106 yrs.
