Superb groupings! Shade gardens and shade plants are my true obsession. Thanks for this look at combinations, and the idea to underplant camellias because they get sparse at the bottom with age.
I really enjoyed watching your sun vs shade plant combinations. Swapping out the individual plants for different “looks” while providing size, shape and growth habit information was especially helpful. Getting another peek at Holly is always a treat too.
Thank you so much for this video. It has given me many options for the shaded side of my house. I am new to gardening and your videos have been very helpful.
Great plant combos! Thanks for doing this for shade plants...a big task for me because we have a lot of live oak trees. I have lots of azaleas, camelias, and lorepetulum as a result. It’s nice to see other choices, especially love and need the chartreuse foliage plants for zone 8b! 💚🌿🙌
I am redoing a shady part of my garden and you gave me some really great ideas. I live in Everett WA (zone 8) but most of the plants you show, we can use here. Many thanks !!!
Never get tired of hearing your intro music please play it everytime😊 Anyway love all those plant groupings for sun and shade. I keep it in mind not to buy too many of one kind because it’s on sale and planted them in one area now it’s lacking of contrasting color and texture!
Last season I was frustrated with my Encore azaleas that I had planted the previous season because they had few blooms. However, I thought I remembered you advising at some point that they can take a couple of seasons to settle in and really start blooming. Well this season they look amazing. Thanks for your guidance!
Just planted some astilbe the other day, gonna have to try some of these combos! Thanks :D ALSO: Is that a serpentine Japanese maple!? Wow how did you find that lol!? I got a weeping serpentine cherry but that is it haha!
Pieris should be cold hardy in your area. I have a playlist on my channel called zone 6 plants. It has all the videos I have ever made for zone 6 plants
I love that soft caress mahonia

Love this. I’m needing to do some shade planting.
Good advice and instruction; thank you!
I just bought that Everillo Carex today. . You have so many great plants and some I haven’t seen before😊
Jim, thank you for a well presented informative video.
Great video
Great video Jim, thanks
Working on the shade garden this year. Love the Florida Sunshine Illicium , nice spot of color in the shade.
I always thought the Florida sunshine needed sun. good to know.
Loved this video.
Jim, what is the name of that little silver grass you have planted in the ground? It’s beautiful and can never find any here on Long Island.
I was wondering the same. Would like to know what it is.
I love Soft Caress Mahonia but it's hard to find.
Jim, would share vine for the shady garden? Thank you
Maybe when doing these types of videos you could give some substitutes for lower hardiness zones, either in the video or description?
I wish I lived in a zone that could grow soft mahonia. 😔 I live in 6B (southern Indiana.)
Just planted some astilbe the other day, gonna have to try some of these combos! Thanks :D

Zone 6b plants to recommend ? I actually had a Pieris survive up here in NW Arkansas. Knock on wood...we had a mild winter.

@@JimPutnam thank you sir, i enjoy your channel.
I can never find these plants in Lowes and I live in a small town. Where can I get them? I live 100 miles from Raleigh nc
Online at plants by mail
Do you ever do consultations? We're in Columbia, SC in zone 8 & I'm struggling to figure out what to do with our front foundation beds
I have consultations on my website. I do them on zoom. You send me photos beforehand and we walk through it on Zoom. Horttube.com
