I like foliage textures and colors for groupings. It gets boring to see the same plant the whole way across the front of a house. Thanks for showing us your knowledge.
Awesome! Now my mind is spinning with possibilities! The wide low growth habit of that 'Miss Lemon' abelia looks like it would be a great addition to about every combo!
This was super helpful! I have purchased multiples of many of the plants you talk about in videos and have had great luck with all of them. Knowing how to put everything together and arrange things is always a challenge for me, so this video was great! Do more videos like this one!
Loved this, thanks!! The Sunshine Ligustrum is truly an amazing plant. I have them growing in the front bed along our porch railing and along the garage forming an “L” shape. There’s a flower bed in a pie piece shape in front of them (curves with the sidewalk up to our door). At first they were little balls of yellow with a fluffy appearance. Now that they are probably waist high, I trimmed them into a formal hedge shape (like a boxwood). Even when they start growing and looking fluffy, it’s still a very pleasing look with the cottage flower bed in front. Great recommendation!
Great ideas with beautiful plants! I love the different combinations you showed. Some repetition in planting can be good, but why limit your landscape when there are so many great plants out there...the reason I want to try everything! 😂 Thanks so much for sharing this! 🙌💚🌿
This surely helps my not-so-artistic brain! Having you explain the details of how and why is so helpful. These plants are gorgeous, especially when grouped and complementing each other. Southern Living Plants really has some great selections.
Just subscribed. Love your info. I’m in Garner in a new construction clear cut .2 ac lot. Looking to create a screen. Love the Mood Ring but can’t find it anywhere in the Raleigh area. Been to the wholesalers off of Old Stage. Any suggestions on where else I could look locally? Thanks again for the amazing content!
Hi Jim, can you talk about planting in high wind areas? Wind just whips across my small front yard, and has absolutely destroyed some Abelia I planted. A small holly has some holes, might be from wind and leaves. My Autumn Lilac is surviving. I’m trying to figure out what to do with that space.
You mentioned the moon dance hydrangea will take full sun. Does that mean I can grow that in full sun in Dallas zone 8 or does it need afternoon shade?
My Sunshine Ligustrum has turned a dark green and is no longer the yellow color which is why I bought it. It is in the sun. Any ideas why this happened and do you think as it grows it will be yellow again? I just bought it in September, 2020.
Stephanie, you have me worried. I just planted dragon prince cryptomeria in a full sun, western sun, bed in NC zone 8a. Should I move them or can I just make sure I keep them watered? They are zone 9 hardy so I was hoping I'd be okay planting them there. Thank you!
I love landscapes and containers that primarily work with foliage colors and textures rather than flowers. Excellent video, Jim!
Thanks for watching Jean

Same here Jane 😊
Now there are some more plants I need to find. Awesome plants you showed us😊

Thank you for your videos, Jim. I garden in 5b but your info is always extremely helpful.
The plants compliment each other wonderfully
Thanks for watching Sherry

Very good information, loved the ideas.
Good lesson. You did this one just in time. I’m looking for some contrast and now I have really good ideas. Thanks so much.👏🏻👏🏻
Great choices! I love these colors together.
My favorites are brighter greens with the dark plums. So pretty.
Have a good day! 🤗💕
Thank you. You too!!
This was an excellent lesson! As your shrub area grows, please show us how it has developed with growth habit and foliage color.
Nice combos ❤️
That was fun! Nice job!
Perfect!!! I was hoping for vid just like this
Jim - will you be doing the same kind of video for shade?
Yes, it is going up in a few minutes 👍
I planted my first White Wedding Hydrangea in June. Should I prune it now or leave it until early Speing?
👍❤️😊

Will Sunshine Ligustrum thrive in Zone 5 ? 👍
Unlikely. Even if it survives, it would likely defoliate every winter
