    Having had an occasional 7 seater, it can be really practical if you have 3 kids. If you need to give anyone else a lift, you can take 6 or 7. The EQB looks like the back row is usable, whereas the Model Y really isn’t

    I've owned by EQB 350 AMG Premium (looks like you have the same) since end of November 2022. I've done over 6,500 miles now and it is definitely comfortable. I honestly want to like it as it is very refined and comfortable and soaks up the miles very nicely. It's very much under the radar and has a decent range for the size of battery and overall weight and is honestly fantastic in almost every respect.
    But it hasn't been reliable and Mercedes have been absolutely awful in resolving the issues. It has leaked coolant since day one and requires regular top ups, but Mercedes refuse to believe it has a leak. Instead, they're apparently aware of an issue with coolant moving between a high-pressure and low-pressure system (I'm told it has two coolant systems), so it isn't "losing" coolant. This is of course despite the fact it has needed filling up multiple times. But Mercedes are aware of the "not coolant leak", and will let me know when they have a fix -- its a known issue they are investigating, I'm told. The second issue is it has twice let me down first thing in the morning and would not start. In Mercedes' defence, I believe a temperature sensor was at fault and since being replaced it has been flawless in that respect.
    Suppose it wasn't for the absolutely awful customer service from both the dealer and the manufacturer. In that case, I'd probably buy another one, but as it stands, I'm now in a position where it can be returned without penalty. I've ordered a Tesla Model Y. Who knows if that will be any better but I certainly won't ever be buying another Mercedes again. Sad really.

      These things happen. I had a new Ioniq 5 with persistant 12v battery and alarm problems. Service had no idea how to fix it, since it was a brand new model. Got shot of it and now drive a Model 3. It has been faultless and if it does go wrong I'm happy in the knowledge that there are 100,000's out there so most faults should haver been picked up and dealt with quickly. Looking now to trade up to a Model Y. You will love the Tesla supercharger network!

      @@flashback9966 initially the commonplace sight of the Tesla was an off putting aspect but like you’ve said, I’m genuinely now seeing it as a positive thing. I also know of several friends that have had absolutely lovely experiences with them.
      One of whom let me use their Model Y LR for a bit one weekend and I must confess, the Supercharger experience was bloody wonderful! The experience is how it should be for EVERY EV!
      The final nail in the coffin for my EQB was being able to order beginning of April and receiving a provisional delivery date of end of April for the car.
      I went with the Model Y LR in blue with the black interior. With the 20” wheels. The LR is definitely faster than my current EQB and while I did consider the Performance model, but it just wasn’t necessary. Brakes on the performance look nice though!

    Had a Mercedes B Class with the Led performance headlights same styling as the EQB without auto high beam. First world problem I know but the beam pattern was set very low on dipped beam which Merc said was normal and couldn't be adjusted but the cut off was so sharp that on dark roads I found them quite ineffective without needed to use high beam a lot of the time. The Model Y gets criticised for its lights (and rightly so for its lack of Matrix functions) however in dipped beam when set correctly they are way better than the Mercs were. Still liked the Merc though and would have another.

    On our car scheme, the top spec 350 Premium Plus is also £100 a month cheaper than a MY LR.

    • @ISuperTed
      @ISuperTed Рік тому

      That’s odd as on my car scheme the Model Y LR is £30 cheaper. For range/performance it’s more comparable to the Model Y SR which is £130 cheaper. However as there’s no 7 seater Model Y it’s not really a good comparison. I like the Merc but wouldn’t have it at these prices with that small a range.

    • @SDK2006b
      @SDK2006b Рік тому +1

      @@ISuperTed - Tesla cars are expensive on our Tusker scheme, I put this down to higher insurance related costs.
      Tesla real world range is less than they quote, so the difference between these is not as much as the paper stats show.
      I would take this Merc EQB over a MY - that interior looks so much better than the Tesla and the general quality will be higher too.

    I test drove the Tesla before the Mercedes EQB. The Tesla road handing to me was more like a Chevy compared to the tight driving EQB. Tesla does have many more charging stations. So I picked up a Tesla adapter so I can charge at all Tesla charging stations. I’m getting up to 288 miles in the summer and about 210 in the winter months (Chicago) while operating the heater. The only drawback for EV vehicles , if any, is traveling long distances looking for charging stations. But, having the CC1/CC2 and the Tesla networks make traveling better. Be careful of the Tesla adapter you choose because there are a few that won’t work. All in all I highly recommend changing from gas to electric. The convenience of not going gas stations is a huge plus. EV’s are the future and environmentally friendly. 😊

    The B Class has always been overshadowed by the larger models & is less popular than the lower & sportier A Class.
    Still talking about ICE cars, we have a 2011 ICE B Class, it's slow, but super practical & love it.
    My wife & I are in our 70s so we set the seats high & virtually just slide into the seat without tipping our heads, or stooping to get in.
    Regarding the EV range, it would be the EQB that we'd choose & for the same reasons that we love our current car.
    It doesn't put us off that the EQB doesn't have a frunk, as we don't have one now & we always park nose-first into our single garage, so access would be poor anyway.
    The performance increase of the EQB is handy, yet not excessive. The insane performance of most EVs pushes the prices out of reach high for the average Joe & it's the reason that we refuse to transition to EVs.

    Being a Merc it will require expensive needless scheduled service and random very expensive repairs that can only be done at a dealer using stupid expensive parts and fluids that fail more rapidly than parts store brands. I expect these will drop in value very rapidly. These will be a decent buy if you skip the first three years of production and buy one that's two or three years old. I would pickup the extended warranty. Probably great for around town, but until Merc builds their own cross country charging network, a road trip would be a charging nightmare. I need three or four phone apps to plan a trip out of town with my Merc EV. My Tesla plans the trip for me with the zero cost super chargers in the navigation.

So i understand what that customer went through, however, I still wouldn't buy a Tesla, with state of fit and finish I battered my cars for at least 3K a week of driving, and there was barely a mark on the interior,. Mercedes has massively down played the 0-60 of 6.1 seconds. I test driven an ipace before getting the merc, and was VERY surprised that it felt exactly the same acceleration wise vs the ipace. Since then i've raced a couple of ipace's with nothing in it between them and a chap on one of the eqb groups on FB confirmed his EQB 350 was doing 0-60 in 4.8s with timing hardware, which is the same as the ipace and the model y.
    I mostly drive with a bit of spirt as i get free charging at home and i enjoy it. But on a couple of steady runs (down to stansted and isle of wight from wales) i've had pretty much the spot on claimed range of 252 miles, and that's with 5 people and a full boot of suitcases.
    Overall the car is great, certainly the best ive ever had. But i cant help feeling like it is a little low quality for the relatively hefty price (over £60k in 350 premium trim). I'd have preferred the quality i felt in the jag for the price, but i guess you can't have it all.

    The EQB is my style as I like boxy cars and I want bells and whistles. However, the minimalist and fairly plain Model Y can be had for under $50,000 here in the US so the tesla with it’s charging network, greater horsepower and range for less money would have to be my choice. My guess is that the EQB will not hold it’s value and I’d be able to pick on up used for a lot less if they make and sell a lot of them, which I think they won’t. Tesla is also making a lot of the Model Y’s and with the simplicity of the design I’d hope they’d be pretty good at making them by now. I’m not really a Tesla fan, but the more I learn the more I get the impression that Elon won’t destroy them any time soon. I think their Cybertruck is a huge mistake that is distracting them and instead of getting yet farther ahead of the competition they are allowing them to catch up. But its going to take a while as Tesla only makes electric cars but the OEM’s have to make an expensive transition.

    The EQB is a good size and should be considered a 5+2. After a test drive im impressed, but the car is compromised for the price with only 100kW charging, a raised floor making the middle seat passengers with the knees higher than their hips and the £60k price tag (although year old ones can be had for £45k), but that makes it similar to a used 7 seat Model X which im test driving tomorrow, although they feel too wide for UK roads. The eBerlingo vans have been ruled out due to low battery capacity/low real world range, although you get sliding rear doors, seven individual seats, but budget build and compromises are met with a £30k pricetage but a long lead time for a new one.

It turns out that filling up a diesel family car with a 55-litre tank to travel 484 miles costs £96.68. The equivalent for an EV driver using a fast charger is only marginally cheaper at £92.69

      RAC purposely used most expensive chargers. Kids, can you say, “bias?”

      @@FrunkensteinVonZipperneckAgreed. Were EVs introduced to make motoring cheaper or to help slow or reverse climate change? However for those who can charge at home or work it’s a lot cheaper to charge and there are lots of deals around to get cheaper charging when out and about or if you can’t charge anywhere else.

    Its not really fair as all are not designed for 7 adults. If it's a family then this or the MY would be fine for kids or teens in the back.

    I’d definitely go for a 7-seater 2017 Model X instead of this Mercedes. Much cheaper, better range, and the Supercharging network. Sure, it’s an older car, but it still feels modern because of Tesla’s software updates.
    I’d be curious to see a comparison of the space inside though.

    Personally, talking about two vehicles in a video but only show and compliment the Mercedes is very odd and it appears bias toward one. Many people who did not watch your Model Y review will not know which one is best. Just something to consider.

    Neither of the rear seats are designed for adults, they're designed for kids. By far their most likely usage is a car for the family, the vast majority of which consist of 2 parents and maybe 2 kids. The kids use the middle seats unless there are more adults, like grandparent etc. Expecting the rear seats to accommodate adults is an unrealistic expectation, the Merc and the Y are aimed, very specifically, at the majority of the market.

    You only appreciate the dimensions. But in fact you don't draw attention to the most important thing. Tesla has the infrastructure and you can rely on it for trips of 2000-3000km. The Mercedes doesn't have the infrastructure, and more than 300km, I can't move you safely. The last seats in the Tesla are for children, not for adults. The comparison is bad.

I have gone from £150 to £200/mth in diesel to £50 to £70/mth in electric. 200 miles is not shite.... its practical. If you need 400 miles three times per week your a rare driver as not many do 60,000 miles per year. What was shite was diesel and 3 services per year. My first BEV service is early 2025.

      @@RSEV you say that but I live in Wales and work in Liege so I travel every week in my Merc it takes me six and a half hours to get to work I have a 30 minute rest on the Euro tunnel train. My wife wanted a EV so I bought her a M3P in Sept 2019 I’ve taken it over to Liege a couple of times and my journey increases to over twelve hours and now with the price of supercharging at £0.67 it even costs more to use than the Merc diesel so now the Tesla is just used for Tesco and local journeys I know people don’t like to hear that but it’s true EV vehicles are useless for long journeys of course some people don’t mind doubling or tripling their journey time if they think they might save 50p

      In the past you had good range with an economy car and a luxury car, but now with EV’s you can have an economy car that has good range and a luxury car that doesn’t. So I think someone who wants and electric car, might be willing to go for something less premium if it gives them the luxury of practicality. There’s not a huge number of cars to choose from in a 7 seater and a Tesla has good range, horsepower and storage. I don’t think I’m ready for a minimalist vehicle like Tesla as I want more bells and whistles, but I can see the point in comparing these two cars. So I agree that there are premium things about the Mercedes and I really like the looks inside and out but in terms of performance, it’s not really premium. For the price it needs a bigger battery to make up for the lack of efficiency.

    • @0-Will-0
      @0-Will-0 Рік тому

      The Mercedes has budget charging, budget performance, budget efficiency, budget app technology, budget battery management etc. Agree it's arguably more premium in some other metrics, but you need to consider what is important to you in an EV and for me, most of the above are important.
