thank you so much for this video! my wife and i are hesitating between 5 or 7 seats model Y and we have 2 kids but the grandparents visit us occasionally. initially we were worrying if the 3rd row don't have any legroom for the kids. but watching your video we now clearly see how it actually looks like, and kids seem fine in the back (not to mention our kids are even smaller, 2 yrs and 6 yrs). thank you Kate

I love our MY 7 seater. I have 5 kids ages 15 to 1.5 years. It works because my wife is short (5’1). We move her all the way and she says it is still comfy. We have have rear facing booster behind her. To teens also in the middle. 10 year old and 8 year old in 3rd row. Plus a stroller in the trunk. It is a little tight in 3rd row. Once car seats is no longer rear facing then it’ll be much better. I’m 6’0 but skinny. So I have to move my chair up a little more too. But I’m still comfy. So far so good!

Great demonstration. When you were sitting in the back row do you think you could sit back there for a road trip? I understand it gets harder past 5ft7 in some other review videos.
Me personally, NO. Because I am claustrophobic 😅 But my son who is as tall as me is totally fine back there!
Love the video!! This was really helpful in determining how much legroom is back there. We were thinking of swapping out our model 3 for a model y and were wondering if we should buy a seven seater. Do you think someone around 5' 3" would be able to sit back there comfortably for around 13 hours?
So glad you loved the video! I think it’s possible if the second row is mostly forward. Also, if you drop the middle seat in the second row it allows a little more airflow for the 3rd row. Hope that helps!
@@kateschwanke Thanks! I think we are going to buy a Model Y Performance, just because we feel like we might not get a lot of usage out of the third row, and we like the looks and speed of the performance. It helped a lot though!! 😄

Going on Turo for a 7 seater and this helps give an idea as we will have 3 baby seats and four adults. Forgot to factor in stroller space and cargo space as a deal maker/breaker. It looks like only a couple of duffles will fit once seats are set to 7 occupants. Probably will need a gas guzzling SUV unfortunately. Nice job though guys!
Possibly! Definitely try the Turo thing though, we did that before making our decision too!

I would just like to mention that while Kate was in the back, her head looked like it would have been hit by the trunk door when closed. Saw that happen on a different video
Kate, when you sat in the 3rd row, can the seat in front of you move forwards a bit more? Or was what you showed already the most legroom for you in the 3rd row? I.e. - for your height, I'd love to see you put the driver's seat to your setting, sit in the 2nd row moved forward as much as possible for you, and then sit in the 3rd row.
If I remember right, the second row was not all the way forward when I was in the 3rd row 🤔 I recently had my 12 year old in the 3rd row with the second row all the way up and he had plenty of room back there!
Really too bad Tesla not making a version with captain chairs. We love the convenience of our Toyota Sienna with its slide doors and kids able to move in and out without us moving the seats.
Family of 5 with 3 car seats… went Rivian. Glad I did.

Can you speak to if the third row configuration with one seat down impedes the access to the seatbelt clip? I saw that he was sitting back there but didn't have the belt on. In the 2021 that we looked at my child couldn't. Buckle without lifting the seat. Doesn't really work if we have a stroller in the car.
We have used it before where one seat is down and he didn’t have any issues buckling up. Hope that helps!
Definitely better for when kids are older. With all my rear facing it'll be too inconvenient.
I can see how it would be a bit tight in there with rear-facing seats! But forward facing no problem 🙌🏻

Are you able to put infant carseat and booster carseat on the second row and still have access to third row?
Yes! They are a tilt and slide seat so the booster seats and carseats can stay put
Hey! I’ve got 3 kids one being 13 and two being 16 and in my state the 16 year olds can’t drive until 17, I want a new car and isn’t sure if the model y is too small for those 3 let me know what you think. Thanks!
Hi! If you are hoping to have all three in the second row, I’d say you may want to size up to something bigger, like the Model X. But if you’re planning to have one of them sit in the passenger seat and the other two in the back, you should be perfectly fine 😃
They need to make a minivan. Third rows are claustrophobic.

Good comparison using real people and giving the height. Most people just use themself as an example and give their height and it's a guess what other height would fit without visual comparison.
This 7 seater version is definitely not a soccer mom bus if you have to put kids in the 3rd row also because you would have no room for backpacks, gear, chairs, umbrellas or whatever you need for a game or practice.

Hi there! There really is only space for 7 people, and possibly a very small dog or cat in the back/trunk area. Hope that helps!
Tesla need to make an suv or a minivan model. These ones are ok are for families with 1-3 kids, but those of us with large families, or even kids small families in sports- need more room! I’d love a Tesla when the kids grow up tho lol
Oooh I would absolutely LOVE a Tesla SUV! Not the Cybertruck, but an actual SUV. This Model Y is total love though, it’s so much fun to drive 😍

I am 5.9 felt so claustrophobic in 3rd row,, my forehead is literally pointing at roof frame, if there is sudden break bam
I am concerned about the head room in the 3rd row. Looks like passenger in the 3rd row cannot be taller than 5 ft.
I'm 5'6 (longer legs than torso) I was able to sit in the 3rd row, but my head was touching glass. Doable yes, practical, not for me

Are there AC vents for the third row?
No there are not, unfortunately! But you can buy a travel fan like the Luno for back there, and you can also lay the middle seat down in the second row to allow for more airflow
This 3rd row is really tiny. I was debating 5 or 7 seater. My 11 year old is already over 5' so its already a squeeze from day 1. I guess ill stick with the Sienna until Tesla, or someone else gives us a true plug in or EV.
Basically its a very small niche...which is exactly why its such an expensive option.
If you have a child in a car seat this vehicle wont work because you cant fit it in the rear and if you put them in the second row then you cant flip the seats to access the 3rd row. If they are over 9-10 years old the third row is too small. so its for people with child from 5years old to 8. (Booster years)
Maybe the Hyundai EV9 would be a better option?
This car is great for 7 continents.
I have a model Y 5 seater and that is adequate enough for me. A 7 seater model Y the back 2 seats maybe fine for children, but I would not want to sit back in the back 2 seats as an adult and ride there for any length of time and being so cramped.
I prefer to have the added space for storage even though those back seats fold down.
Nice to have that 7 seat option, but it is not needed for our family.

It seems like, 3rd row hard to get out if person is more than 5’2
