I am a 79 year old senior and am ordering a Y long range. Being on the "hefty" side, I like getting in and out of the Y much better than the Model 3. I am planning to do more road trips, too!!!
Getting 280 miles max so far on the EQB 250+, driving normally in ECO mode. Model Y's are nice, I prefer the feel and luxury of the EQB especially 5yrs from now.
I actually ordered an EQB but switched to a Y. Mercedes clearly a better built car but range, supercharging network and ultimately price drop changed my mind.
Forget the EQB, we switched from a 2019 Porsche Cayenne to a 2023 Model Y LR and we love the Tesla. It is far faster, feels airy and open and so futuristic. The Cayenne is stunning and it is built with jewel-like precision, but the Model Y is just a lot better car to own and drive.
Been driving a Mercedes electric for five years and love it. In retirement it has all the range I need for 99% of my needs with 100 miles of range. Need more range and I use my MB diesel, my travel trailer tow vehicle.
Fair review. I had a 2015 MB C300 with airmatic suspension. It was best of both worlds but I honestly dont miss it in my Y. Plus the airmatic left me stranded 2x which force me to get a tow truck. So never again for me. I do wish Tesla adds ventilated seats and power frunk tho. Cost of ownership will be higher on the Benz even if its an EV, guaranteed!
the aerodynamics of the Merc is just like any SUV, not great, whereas the Y is built from the ground up with energy efficiency as #1 priority with the clean streamlined looks to match.
Looks aside, it's just bonkers that a $61k EQB has a significantly less range and slower performance than a $49k Model Y. I mean, you'd have to be a hardcore Mercedes fan and also a stupid person to flush money down a drain with a EQB purchase.
I test-drove both the Model Y and the EQB. In terms of driving experience, the Mercedes is superior. The suspension on the Model Y is bad, but the range is one of its biggest pros. The EQB is the cheapest (50K€) EV 7-seater in Europe against the 120K€ Model X or the 100K€ EX90. It is literally a half-price 7-seater.
Great review and good points on both cars. The charging infrastructure of non Tesla EVs is getting worse as sales increase. Maxing at 100kw only makes charging even more frustrating. It would be great if Tesla offered more features like the sun shade and even an M sport or AMG like package but they are focused on volume, efficiency and cost reduction.
tint the roof, that is what i did for my panoramic roof living in AZ on my truck and it works great, never use the sunscreen to block the sunlight all year round and its a great look
Respect to everyone’s opinion but I don’t understand the obsession with range for the everyday city driver. I guess it all depends on lifestyle . I don’t trust the charging network nationwide even for Tesla to do road-trips where range is so important. How often is the average driver road-tripping or long commuting is the question here’. I’m not either of the two so I’ll take build quality over range any day.
Same here. Just ordered the EQB 350 premium plus and got an absolutely cracking deal. It will do around 10k miles per year which will require charging less than once per week on average.
The range is the killer. 220 miles of range versus 318. It's a no brainer. The eqb us beautiful buy it failed during its concept phase. Also tough to beat autopilot, it's so far ahead of the competition
Model Y for me all day. 250 KW vs 100 KW charging speed and cost way less too. On top of that, Model Y have way better technology, more space, storage, and super charger.
Honestly Tesla have a long long way reaching the level of comfort & luxary and overall interior level of brands like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche ... yet in this exact comparisson i'll pick the Tesla. EQB's design is like.. brick on wheels and the model itself is build to be for petrol/diesel vechicle, it's not EV platform. Also Tesla are pretty much still kings with the range of the EV's.
Great point on how some people are stuck in their ways and enjoy buttons and knobs. I hear from my family “oh I could never drive a model Y. It’s so complicated “. But it is the least complicated car that I have ever owned
Using your touch screen which can break and it has for customers to even change the direction of vents is STUPID. Sometimes people are Muskists (a cult) that doesn’t let them have unbiased opinions. An SUV needs to look like an SUV to maximize space, have option for non-glass roofs and have actual ground clearance. I have a crossover just because the high ground clearance helps during snow and light off-roading.
Can you do a comparison (Y long range) against Acura RDX or MDX Premium package. We have a 10 yr old MDX Elite and ready to change. BTW male is techie (me) and my “boss” is skeptic.
The only thing I dislike about Tesla is the build quality, Why should I have to pay so much money for a car then go and check it for faults because the manufacturer / dealer couldn't be bothered.
Traded our 18 month old EQC on a MYP. Reasons: Weight & handling: like driving a whale. Weight also seems to lead to more flats. MY is 500kg less than EQC (but MY has same interior space and more storage). Reliability - we have had all sorts of problems - all software related, including random ‘Battery malfunction’ messages. Feels like Mercedes rushed the EQC at least, to market. Third, trunk space is a joke compared to the MY. Plus no frunk. Ground clearance is very low - feels like they basically slung a battery under the GLC. Grounds on speed humps regularly. I would not again buy an EV which is a variant of an ICE car/chassis. You lose all the benefits that Tesla has achieved from designing an EV from the ground up. Plus with a Tesla you double your charging options on a long distance road trip. Finally Mercedes feels like yesterday’s car relative to the MY. Mercedes pluses: luxury inside, ride is better, luxury quiet, still a Mercedes if that’s what you are used to. But overall I think Mercedes and possibly all the German manufacturers are yet to realise there is a paradigm shift going on in the auto market led by Tesla…
Love Mercedes, this EQB looks nice, and I really like the EQS SUV, but for the money, range, charging infrastructure, etc, Tesla and Model Y will be getting my money! I'm not necessarily brand loyal, I just like what I like. Tesla all the way.
As a old Mercedes Supporter, I have to say... Tesla looks far more advanced as the Mercedes. The Mercedes looks cluttered and from the past (display layout like Windows Vista)... The T* looks like the LARS Display in the Star Trek ... Feeling Sorry Mercedes, but more LED, more Bling Bling looks not innovative anymore...
Omg I am in the market for a ev suv and I have been saying the same thing. Mbux looks like windows Vista Media Player. Also the leather feels like plastic to me
Yes, Tesla is really hurting on sales because they aren't offering the same features as a $70kMerc. They should listen to you and add complexity and additional supply chain exposure so they can get that price up so they can sell as many EV's as Mercedes. 👍
A Tesla listens to you first, before opening up its trunk. With a Mercedes, you only end up getting the boot. A Tesla. with Siri. is a smart car. A Waymo. A driverless car, is a smarter car.
So it costs $15k more than a current MYP, has less range, charges half as fast, is less comfortable, less storage, and it’s kind of ugly… ehhhh no. MYP all the way.
Really informative and to the point review. Absolutely right about Tesla’s missing luxuries. My wife forever complains about the lack of passenger lumbar support- and rightly so. And yes, Tesla will lose some business due to these easily fixable issues.

The lack of a sunshade is my number 1 complaint with the Y. It is such a simple add on that would make all the difference.
