1:30 - 1:54 oh my god When I read that part in the VN, even though I already solved the mystery at that point, I actually though these were random examples. Everytime I reread parts of Umineko I find something hidden.
@@jajajasputin8927 I'll try my best to explain, but it won't be spoiler-free. Basically, Kanon embodies a few things from the original Sayo, chief among them being her self-hatred. It's why she fell in love with Jessica, because the original Sayo couldn't believe that anyone could like her ugly side. You can also see that in 9:29 that one of the privileges she bestows onto Chick Beato is 'the right to hate everything', and by god, it can seem like that the only thing the Golden Witch wanted to do at times is set Rokkenjima on fire alongside everyone in it. When Chick Beato was born, all the hatred and wrath of the original Beatrice was stripped from her, leaving behind the love of Battler that the Golden Witch took from Shannon. She can pull pranks, but that's about the limit of her magic. Kanon, though, he kept all of his hatred, even if it was mostly self-hatred. All he had to do was remind the Golden Witch of her own. (Side note: there's a lot of similarities to Satoko and Sayo when it came to their pranks. When they were small, their pranks were mostly childish fun. However, as they grew older, their pranks evolved into dangerous saw traps that harmed, or even killed, people. This seems to be the source of the Golden Witch's magic, even if the original Sayo never acted on her insanity-induced desire for revenge. It also helps to explain why Lambdadelta is Beatrice's sponsor.)
So Shannon is supposed to be Beatrice's mother, I do not see how "I cannot love him" is related to magic or real world, it's more like a memory when Batter didn't return and Shannon switched to loving George. Earlier I thought it was ep5 Beatrice (or Clair), but it was just a retcon.
Don't read unless you have at least read Episode 7. It's more like Shannon, at least the one in 1986, is what's left of Sayo after she had stripped herself of most if not all her personality. An empty husk bereft of her love, her interests and her hatred, even that for herself. Essentially, Beatrice is the power fantasy - everything that Sayo wishes for and wishes to be, but also her pain, her love and her interests - Kanon is her self loathing and what she thinks she is - disgusting, furniture, not worthy of living or being loved - and Shannon is what's left - a desire to be happy, but no personality, no interests, not even hatred - a lie that conforms to the expectations around her. In reality of course, they are still all Sayo and we know that Battler's return in 1986 makes "Beatrice" win that struggle of personalities - unlike depicted here - even if her game falls apart before it can even begin.

Our poor beloved golden witch...
I can't believe I just realized the importance of having Kanon give Beato the pep-talk instead of literally anyone else.
Can you share your insight?

I really love the pep-talk Kanon gives Berto. Thanks for reuploading.
