You know, given the existence of this scene (among others) it's surprising that anyone comes away from Episode 3 with the impression that Beato was genuinely trying to trick Battler into accepting she's a witch. Lambda is pissed because she'll only support you if you're committed to "certainly" achieve a goal, but Beato's real goal isn't to be accepted as a witch.
Because, originally, Beatrice wasn't a witch. Lambda lent her power to Beatrice in order to trap Bernkastel in her games forever. But the true story is more complex than that. You should check out EP7 Requiem of the Golden Witch, it explains most of the backstory.

I'm actually in a middle of reading Ep.7 manga adaptation (wich is a good adaptation from what I've heared. Certainly better than anime) and I must say that for now I'm very intriqued by relationship that connected Kinzo and Beato. I quess that the answer to my question deeply depends on ones interpretation of the story. Sorry for any language mistakes. I'm a native Pole.
