    This is brilliant. I love how you're attacking all of that rust no matter what. My 66 is pretty bad , but not as bad as yours. My garage is a palace compared to your tentshop, but you just get on with it and enjoy it regardless of conditions. Consider me humbled and inspired. I love your relaxed persona and can-do attitude - it's exactly what I needed this evening, as I've been out on the body of my 66 poking a screwdriver through pretty much every structural piece of sheet metal, and then shitting myself and wondering how the blazes I'm going to fix the rust...well, again, thank you because now I have an excellent reference in your videos. I sure do appreciate the time you have taken with all this. Love peace and axle grease, The Pilch.

      Hey bud!🖐 so glad to hear your kind words. Makes putting the videos together for fans all worth it.
      I had a goal to get her back on the road in 1 year and accomplished it! It was difficult but I just pushed forward.
      A little every day, make a plan-work the plan, gotta start somewhere.
      Words to keep things moving and to stay on track. Thanks for the comment 👍

    Oatmeal is a good color, doesn't show dirt a whole lot, very neutral and earthy and makes the interior look brighter. But I also like charcoal gray for me, personally!

    • @EmanDeluxeVLOGS
      @EmanDeluxeVLOGS  5 років тому

      Oh really! I welcome the info... I was hoping the oatmeal not so brown. I guess you say... I really wanted something light I'm really leaning towards charcoal because oatmeal is a little expensive. In the salt and pepper has silver in it which looks cheesy

    The wheelhouse came out great really making progress on the bug repairs . I been out of town all week for work , still crazy cold here lot a snow more on the way. Have some motor parts coming next week to help finish the motor I rebuilt for the 13 window deluxe bus, then need to get back on the sheet metal patch work needs new floor and dog legs.

  • @Mikefngarage

    That is the right way to do that dont listen to the haters with all the butt welding stuff. you need that area strong. I did all the repairs on my 60 with one donor car all in one shot. It looked just like the back half of yours. Check my channel for the 60 ragtop could have gotten a late model with a good back half and cut it from the heater channel through the wheel house then through the package tray to the other side. My car drives perfect now. did the whole back half, heater channels lower outer and inner quarters, front wheel houses, rear wheel houses in one and a half weeks. I dont want to discourage you because you are doing a great job. I just found a great short cut that is super safe and strong.

    • @EmanDeluxeVLOGS
      @EmanDeluxeVLOGS  5 років тому

      Right on thanks mike! Yes I watched your entire rebuild of the 60 ragtop and it was an amazing job this was my first rebuild so I'm getting all my welding pratice for when i move to my bus. I am happy with all i have learned from you and. Many others.

    • @EmanDeluxeVLOGS
      @EmanDeluxeVLOGS  5 років тому

      My favorites i learned from you was flipping up the inner firewall to weld in the heater channel to front firewall. Also using rust reformer any place you can

    Folks should not weld in a row. Tack or spot, then stitch in between, less heat, less warpage. I also use a wet rag, and hammer to reduce both as you progress.

    Looks great, Your a big help. I have to do all the same repairs on my 66 so this is a major help. Those panels look like they fit pretty good, where did you get them from? I'm finally finishing up on painting my chassis. Next I'm tackling the heater channels so I have to watch your videos a few more times. You made these repairs look super easy!

    • @EmanDeluxeVLOGS
      @EmanDeluxeVLOGS  5 років тому

      you don't know how much of a blessing it is to hear that. I just love that I'm helping others in working on their beetle, UA-cam is one of the best tools I have in my toolbox. I bought the panels from cip1 I'm pretty sure. The fit was great I thought for a cheap aftermarket part. The one main visual difference is the thickness in metal on the support. You'll see what I mean. The hole needs to be widened as well for bolting body back on chassis mount. Thanks for watching

      This repair I ended up saving for almost last because I just was nervous about how to fix it. It was good too get some fabrication and Welding skills first so you have the confidence to do this repair. But in the end it was a very simple fix and I'm glad I helped

    • @EmanDeluxeVLOGS
      @EmanDeluxeVLOGS  5 років тому

      One Last Thing Before I did it I try to search "rear wheelhouse" on UA-cam for this repair and I didn't see one so maybe it'll help others

      @@EmanDeluxeVLOGS I think Im more worried about the heater channels. That looks intense

    • @EmanDeluxeVLOGS
      @EmanDeluxeVLOGS  5 років тому

      Yeah I know what you're saying, As Long as You Follow all the steps before you cut it out. Brace up your door gaps nice and Strong. Just pick away at it one side of the time and keep note how the heater channel is attached to the car and put it back just the way it came out I didn't think it was too complicated. It definitely was tricky, but it went really smooth for me. Biggest thing is making sure your doors are opening and closing correctly. I don't feel like mine are perfect but I feel like there will be a little tweaking when the body goes back on the pan.

    Hi, why did you decide to plug weld and overlap the panels as opposed to but welding them together? Is it for strength reasons? Thanks. Good work.

    • @EmanDeluxeVLOGS
      @EmanDeluxeVLOGS  5 років тому

      Yes for sure better strength! Butt welds are better for cosmetics. Thanks for 👀

    • @GT.Bugger
      @GT.Bugger 5 років тому +1

      @@EmanDeluxeVLOGS I'm always dubious about overlapping panels incase any moisture gets between. But I guess so long as you protect after it should be good.

      i plan to seam seal both inner and outer lapps to protect on the moisture topic.

Need a solid point to weld something to weather using the strut like i did or angle iron and drill a hole into it to thread on a piest of thick threaded rod so its solid. Be creative.
