  • The full restoration of the forgotten 1959 Vw Beetle continues! I found this old car sitting in a garage back in 2019. It had been stashed away since 1994 waiting for a restoration. In 2021 I met Larry at a vintage car show and he asked me if I had any ragtop Volkswagen Beetles I would sell. So we pulled this one from it's soon to be grave, a crumbled HF garage and Larry brought it home. Follow along on the journey of the restoration videos as this car will be 100 % restored 99.95% by Larry :). Turnin rust into a restored car.

Larry is truly an artisan in auto body work. It takes skill, patience and attention to detail to do a top notch restoration on classic cars, and I really enjoy watching you guys work. Makes me chuckle when I think about all of the negative viewer comments that I've read on older 5150mxVW videos, such as "Junk that POS", or "I'd part that car out, you can't restore it". Well, you CAN restore cars if you have the skills and ambition to do so, and think about the pride and sense of accomplishment you'd have when you rescue a car from the crusher, restore it, and bring it back to near new condition. Good video, Jayson - thanks to you & Larry!

Larry needs to have a VW restoration channel! He certainly has the personality and skill for it. I love car restoration videos (especially VW restorations!) as many people do.
I've been following Mitch Bergsma's channel featuring the restoration at Skinner's Classics shop in California of his 1967 bus. Their skill, knowledge and attention to detail is outstanding to say the least.
Definitely looking forward to Larry's progress on this little beauty!

@@5150mxVW I fight rust using the spray wax from most any self serve car wash, which when sprayed liberally from the pressure washer at any potential rust, soaks and wicks into all these sandwiched crevices and gets held in even more by any dirt and moisture in there. In autumn, it's even possible to spray down interiors without too much mold and battery boxes are a must. Also, silicone tire shine from trigger sprayers can do similar things for mufflers.

Larry's methods are very similar to Scott's at Cold War Motors except that Scott often shapes panels from scratch with shrinkers and stretchers. Scott is getting sick of welding though and so needs to work with a young welder. He often shapes panels for his friends to weld in.

I think you both share a passion of keeping the old alive and I remember back a lot of years ago when I first got started in body repair and the older guys were teaching me how to lead joints instead of today's body filler. Everything you learn will stick with you through the years, even if you don't use that particular skill everyday. Keep up the vids Jason. Thanks

Larry knows what he is doing. I used to do some bodywork as a hobby, no longer able to due to health. When you get into it as Larry says you get the feel. I know what he means and it will just become second nature. I think you are getting the hang of it Jason and with Larry's help you will be restoring your cars like a pro. I used to find it very pleasing doing panel beating, Just don't set Jen's hair alight though you will be in the dog house! Seriously though think minimum body filler as Larry says and you will be fine Jason. Thanks to Larry once again for having us around I know it slows you down when you have to explain everything. Thanks Jason for filming and try not to be speechless, it's not like you at all!👍👍

VW used very small double threaded studs to attach the bumpers to the body. Most people just welded the bumper bracket to the body. Then there are the bolts that held the fenders on the body. My first experience in doing auto body repair. After all I was 15 and had lots of time and no money. However I did have my fathers ball peen hammer. Oh if I had cutting and welding equipment. However I had a big can of Bondo and a sander. Good video.
