Love the damage models in IL-2. And yeah the Tempest is a joy to fly, it's biggest weakness is being too powerful to the point where you overshoot or g-out, which isn't really a weakness lol.
Hell ya its so nice watching you do realistic dogfights instead of modern jet fighters that rarely if ever do any dog fighting. Love jet fighting with missiles but this is what gives people a chance to experience what happened to those fighter pilots of world war 2. The Tempest is so much better then the BF 109 though in turn and keeps up with speed. Next that would be exciting would be the FW 190 with the tempest? Love the channel.
Right after Pearl Harbor, the AAF's "modern" inventory was made up of P-39s and P-40E Kittyhawks. During America's "hard year" (Dec 41 - Dec 42) obsolescent aircraft like the -39 and -40E often became fodder for experienced Japanese pilots in their lightweight, highly maneuverable aircraft. However . . . the experiences of the AVG--the Flying Tigers in China--operating even older versions of the P-40 laid the groundwork for energy-based tactics that literally kept the USA in the war for a year. The message from Gen. Claire Chenault of the Flying Tigers was clear--avoid a dogfight at all costs. Get above the enemy and dive on them. As you're climbing up after your initial dive, dive again as soon as possible. You're flying an all metal airplane with multiple fifty cals and (in the P-39) a 20mm cannon. You don't have to be the more advanced aircraft (or the more advanced fighter pilot, lol, !). You just have to exploit all the advantages of a typical pre-war American plane--which came down to exploiting it's weight / firepower for energy.
I love the Tempest in IL2 BOS! Those 4 canons simply tear apart any plane in its sights! Just not enough rounds!! Great video and fantastic idea to show more BOS content!
I remember some British documentary about the Tempest, and the pilots saying it picked up speed in a dive faster than any other plane since its airframe was so clean.
The thing about 20mm cannons. doesn't take very many hits to do some damage. They kind of cover more area during a burst so hits seem more likely. Nice comparison. My personal favorite is P-38. but that's me. cheers
Dam, I used to love IL2 back in the day, nice to see it again. Try the Yak 3, that things beautiful below like..... 5000 meters but it lacks ammo so get your sharp shooting hat on.
Have you some brain injury? The 109 is a lumpy thing with and ugly cockpit canopy and a tail fin that can’t decide whether it wants to be angular or curved. Then there are the tail plane supports. Ugly as sin.
Best pros about tempest in my opinion are: 1) excellent allaround visibility bubble canopy, 2) killer guns, 3) high speed. I think you did an excellent job in the dogfight riding at the edge of the blackout. That really shows the good stick ability of the pilot. Some of those gunshots were clearly going to miss because of incorrect lead, though. I like to practice in single player also shooting snapshots where you have different plane of motion wrt. enemy aircraft. So that you let the enemy fly left to right across the full view of the canopy into the gunsight and you keep your own wings level. Sort of like "ambush method" for deflection shooting. Shooting at front quarter snapshots can also end the fight quickly without risking full headon. With jets the closure rate is so insane that front quarter shots are more difficult. For those in-plane deflection shots where the target goes under the nose, I think sometimes the AI sees that and make a tricky dodge when its not visible to you xD.
Late in the war the allied pilots always worked as a team of four or at least with a wingman. I'd love seeing two good pilots working together in warbirds.
Most people don't know this but this is the best allied fighter of WW2. Just from its characteristics and from using it myself in sims. Post war, the griffon spits and p51H were great.
I recently saw a documentary on the Tempest and a WW2 pilot they interviewed said it was common they would black out 3 or 4 times a flight. It seemed like their biggest issue too.
@@-Zevin- The Russians usually got older used Spitfires, it wasn't best at low speed and low altitude where they tended to fight, plus there's a load of Soviet propaganda to factor in. With Spitfires and Mustangs from the same time period running the same fuel the Spitfire should have the advantage. The P-51 was incredible considering it's range and pilot skill will play a big part, but it's oversold by those US history channel documentaries. It was very good and it had the range to go with the bombers, but by then the Luftwaffe was diminished and the Mustangs usually had a big numerical superiority. In every US warbird documentary I've seen it's the usual nonsense about "awesome power" and "greatest aircraft of the war", be that the P-51, P-38 or P-47. @@-Zevin- I know that; you hinted that a P-51 vs Spitfire dogfight would be in favour of the P-51, though the opposite would have been true. You mean seeing the perspective that you could bring to historic aircraft, air battles, tactics, and the men who flew them... followed by a demonstration and TacView analysis? Hell yeah!!
You probably already figured that out by now, but you have to write tacviewrecord = 1 into the startup.cfg of IL-2 and press LCtrl + R when you're in the flight to get it recording. Also great video as always i enjoy your IL-2 Videos just as much as your DCS Videos.

I too just got back into IL-2. Having a lot of difficulty though. It's been about 10/15 years since I switched from CFS2 with 1% aircraft to it. IL-2 has changed a lot. Anyone who wants to help would be greatly appreciated.
I believe someone from the UK just restored a Tempest with the Bristol Centaurs engine fitted…there were very few of that model made…they did a beautiful job on it!..I believe it’s the only example of one in the world!
I used to take on anything in the Ki-84 in IL-2 and Microsoft CS. Fast like a FW-190, turns like a Zero, more firepower than a P-51. We are lucky that Japan couldn’t make more of them.
Oh my god IL-2! I'm really happy to see this, I hope we will indeed get more of this! War Thunder would be interesting if only because I think the way the game plays (mouse aim, third person) really changes things up a lot if you're not doing the sim mode, but otherwise I feel like it's generally worse than IL-2 in sim mode.

Growler this content is our bread and butter man, keep it coming. Love the WW2 stuff and you're good with guns so I always know I'm in for a treat when I see a new vid
Further to my last, I have a request. The Tempest is my preferred plane in IL 2 for a number of reasons so I was sorry to see the Tacview failed you. But for (hopefully) future IL2 videos, I wonder if you could make the HUD option available on the screen so that we can see your speed and Gs during manoeuvres. Cheers.
Dude your vids are amazing!! everyone of your vid I watch I always learn something keep it up man!!
Love to see Bf 110G-2 and HS-129B-2 ground attack!
So great to see more WW2 content, even if not DCS! Keep it up, man!! :D
Make more of these WW2 fighter vs fighter vids! Great work!
My go to aircraft in IL2 , its such a stable gun platform , its smooth to fly and super fast with devastating guns and it enspires much confidence. Its a real beast of WW2 and maybe my favourite plane of the war.
Love you playing IL-2!
IL-2 has explosions that are SO much more realistically pleasing than DCS.. it’s fun to see you branching out!
Plz make more from IL-2
And here I am again, asking for you to fly the Bf109 in such a fight
The tempest is credited with over 22 Me 262s they were deadly at low to middle altitude and their firepower was something you wanted to avoid
Why have I never heard of a Tempest ? I’ve been watching stuff like this and reading about panes for over 50 years
My Grandfather flew this after Hurricanes in WW2 and the Battle of Britain. Must have been ok as I'm typing this now.
He was a wiry, no nonsense gentleman. You wouldn't mess with him. He was, like many of that generation, hard as nails to the bone. Even in his 80's, when he spoke, you listened. No side to him at all. The world needs more of him now.
I listen to him unlike biden who has astheimer
Just a note - most typhoon had a 4 bladed prop too! Needed it to make the msot of the Napier Sabre.
Awesome video, really loved it. Pls do more ww2 dogfights
Ace video! Yes please to more WW2 stuff! I really wish for a Pacific add on for IL2. That would be perfect...What's your thoughts on Rise of Flight WW1? Would be great to see you handle some of those classics
That intro looks like it could be in a documentary! Keep up the good work!
Maybe il-2 flying circus in the future?
Love these WW2 historical intro ! Luuv luuv luv IT!
Más, por favour 🧐😎
Yes. Please! More wwii!!!
Really appreciate your channel. Have you considered a Final Count Down theme fight, where Zero’s and Tomcats fought. Would be neat to see 190s or 109s against F86 or F15s
I'd love to see your jet vids with blackout left on :)
Would like to see you do some Flying Circus videos. I guess since it is IL-2 based TacView would work?
WWII fighters are awesome. Huge powerful engines and a shit ton of guns. More of this stuff please.
K4 put the balance on the 109 side again or at least equal
amazing can you do more il2 dogfights please?
Please do a video with the P-38.
I will watch all of it. I would love to watch you master the WW1 planes. It’s historically interesting and it’s where it all started.
Hope to see more of night vision missions and dogfights, great work!
Great video, I think the WWII looks awesome in your channel. Would love to see you as well in a squad doing some cooperative missions!!
I’m all in on more WWII warbird action. I love your videos and explanations.
Sick bro!
Love the warbirds. Keep flying them!
Thanks for another banger!
Amazing P-51 Mustang, please next!!
Keep it up 👍 nice 👍
Growling Sidewinder I love your videos! I'd be interested to get your take on WarThunder Simulation mode.
Love love love! that wa so awsum!!!
GS: Have you done a MiG-28 vs Su-27 video yet? If not, I would love to see it!
I love the WW2 aviation history its my favorite can you do a vid with the ME-262
IL2 streams would be awesome!
Would be great to see a spitfire in a dog fight
great presentation :-)I'm all for future il-2 and love the old War Birds !
Hi GS
Greetings from New Zealand
I have been studying the history of 486 squadron RNZAF I am a model maker and I have some very interesting reference material including the limited print squadron history "The Wild Winds"... 486 sqd was in the very forefront of the operational deployment of the Tempest
Great stuff, man! Would love to see a video on the Fw-190 or the F4U.
Unfortunately this game doesn't have an f-4u yet, I'd love to see one coming
Yes. That is my feedback.
The p-39 would be awesome!!! Idk if you’ve ever heard of it, but I think you should try it
I really like the intro where you discuss the aircraft👍👍
