I bought a Star Model BM when they got imported fairly cheap back a couple years ago. It is essentially a Spanish 1911 in 9mm. According to a couple people I’ve talked to, the Spanish used a lot of steel cases in the 70s and 80s when mine was manufactured, so it’s optimized for it. I occasionally have issues with brass cases sticking in it and I can’t really figure out why, even when clean.
I have to say. Ive never come across this channel. But man out of all the shooting range style channels, off this first video, im more informed off of one video from this channel than all others combined. Thanks, liied and subcribed.
A friend of mine got one of the revolvers where you can swap out the cylinder to go from 38/357 to 9mm and the steel case 9mm always sticks super hard in the cylinder so you basically have to use a hammer and screwdriver to get the casings out. I’ll have to talk him into trying brass instead of ignoring the 9mm capability.
Have used steel in my ar’s for practice with no problems , wouldn’t use them for serious work other than a last resort. Have owned a 995 for probably 25 years and never had a malfunction I can remember. Shoots 2 inches at 50 yards. Nice review!
I’ve heard nothing but good from people that owns a Hi point carbine. I don’t own no hi points but they r not bad. I own a few Taurus, I carry a pt140 and occasionally carry my model 66 revolver. Got to love a wheel gun!
The only problems I've ever seen with steel case, was in a micro .380 I was working on. My friend complained that it kept jamming, sure enough, the swell of the steel case would not eject properly through that tiny ejection port
Inexpensive guns can be fantastic. I use a Ruger Security 9 for my edc, and I got for under $300 a couple years ago. I saw recently they are going for between $400 and $500 now! Just feels great in my hand, and functions like a champ. I have Glocks and nice 1911’s, but I just love carrying my Ruger.
I already knew the answer before I watched. I know it will run, I’ve done it. I hated the 995TS- had to drift the rear sight all the way left to get a zero, and I’ve seen others do that as well. Yes it was reliable and shot everything I fed through it, even aluminum and Tula and Winchester forged. But, I sold it and bought a Kel Tec Sub 2000 which is way better.
The biggest problem that I've found, as far as Steel-cased ammo goes, is incomplete powder burn. I have to assume the brand of powder they use is just as cheap as the casings themselves, and this usually accounts for Failures to Eject/Cycle and weird ejection patterns. It's horribly inconsistent, and the cheaper the pistol, the more pronounced it is. In my experience. Another great vid, man! Keep it rockin'. You're quickly climbing up my GunTube ladder.
I have been running wolf .308 steel case through my norinco recently and have had no issues. Also, my high point .45 carbine is probably one of my most reliable firearms, will eat any ammo, and always makes people smile when they fire it.
Tula is a name brand. Just not the USA. USSR and make brass ronds too. Perfecta and maxx Tech is made by tulammo. The company is named form the town tula USSR.
I’m right there with you..... I find the cheapest and stick to what works..... nice video..... I had to subscribe..... looking forward to watching the rest
I have had the c9. Put about 1K rounds through it before I sold it. Never had one jam. I have a taurus G2C. I love that pistol. I have put about 500 rounds through it so far and not on hiccup.
I have no experience with the hipoints but I shoot steel in my Taurus G3 and G2C and it runs fine. I have a lot of confidence in Tula and am thankful they were able to keep me supplied during last years ammo availability stupidity.
Cheap ammo has always gone bang for me. Glocks and ARs eat it like candy. I had some cheap 22lr that must have been short on powder, they would shoot but didn't have enough recoil to cycle the next round. Could not wait to get rid of those lol.
Love it.I was just thinking about buying that exact carbine. The Taurus 905 9mm revolver can shoot without the moonclips.Steel casings get stuck in the chamber.
I've had my 995 ts for about 3 years. Several hundred rounds, no problems. You need to get the 20 redball mags, they work great. Plus a lot of good, cheap accessories from hi point store.
I’ve pulled a lot of Tula ammo bullets and many of them have lead beads sticking out the back, at the very least throwing off aerodynamics, at most, changing the actual weight of the bullet by probably 10-15 grains.
I've shot Wolf & Tula 9mm, .40, .45 & .223 and as you stated only noticeable difference is occasional inconsistent power compared to brass cased. Steel cases are not as easy to load in Glock mags due to more friction in steel against steel compared to loading brass against brass. I'll carry a box of each to the range and alternate load in my mags to eliminate this issue.
I bought a 995 carbine for $80 and found a crack in the slide frame sent it back to hi point they replaced every thing except the part with the serial number. So warranty wise great value. And it runs that tul ammo like a champ. Best $80 I ever spent for fun.
I also shoot the "Red Army" Russian steal case through an M&P9 2.0. I've never had a malfunctions using it and it's not terribly dirty. For what ever reason it does shoot low and to the left a bit.
I use. TulAmmo in all my guns, glock, ruger, S&W and so on. People hating on this ammo because it's not name brand. What's better no ammo or cheap ammoo
I’m not sure if it matters at pistol caliber pressures, but on an ar-15 shooting in .223/5.56, that expanding brass helps hold the casing in place. The steel doesn’t expand thus putting more pressure on the bolt and extractor. Steel ammo in a rifle seems less powerful because less of the force is going out the barrel as opposed to brass.
I'm glad you said that because anyone who as actually shot the hi point carbine would probably enjoy it they are fun accurate guns and they last. As far as the handguns I wasn't a fan. But the carbines I shot were awesome.
I will only shoot brass as I ruined a nice 1911 years ago when the aluminum case CCI Blazer ammo came out. A case stuck, the extractor broke and three gunsmiths later the gun was still unreliable, so we had to part company. Lesson learned for me, brass or nickel only... Besides I reload now anyway...
Had failures and jams with steel case in my Magpul Pistol mags. Was shooting crappy Winchester Forged and they would not feed properly in polymer mags. Worked great in factory Glock mags. Regular brass case works fine in Magpul mags
only issue with ammo I have ever had in my Hi-Point 9C is with some different hollow points as the blunt end of the hollow point would hang on the feed ramp since the barrel on the Hi-Point does not move. But I did find that the Hi-Point does love the ARX Interceptor and that is what I have loaded in it for self defense use.

I own one of the newer 995TS model carbines and it's actually one of the funnest guns I have to plink with at the range. Not a bad home defense gun either. I bought the gun, cheap red dot, flashlight, foregrip and 2 stock-mounted mag holders for under $400. Very happy with my 995TS. It eats EVERY type of ammo I feed it. In fact I purchased some LTech 9mm ammo that absolutely would not run in ANY of my 9mm pistols. Only 20% would fire in my Glock 19, sig 365, or m&p shield. 100% fired through the 995 TS! 🤷
My C9 did not like my last box of steel cased Tula, but it was pretty old stuff. Ran brass after I finished the box and it ran like freshly greased gears.
Depending on how long this ammo debacle lasts we are going to see a lot of barrels that need replacing. Steel ammo will hurt most barrels over time. Some people may be thinking that steel ammo is the answer to their prayers but barrel life is usually affected by steel cased ammo. It's something that new shooters need to be made aware of. Yes, the AK can run steel all day long and that is one advantage of shooting an AK. Of course 7.62 x 39 has been a bit easier to get and it is also usually cheaper. Those are 3 great guns for the money and as we saw, they ran everything without a problem. The Hi-Point carbine is just fun to shoot all the time. Great video, especially for these times.
My Standard Mfg in 300 Blk has had no issues with Wolf. I was actually concerned because my wife got me a Rise Armament trigger and a guy at Rise pretty much told me I was going to have light strikes but 200 rounds later not a single one. It was just the regular RA-140 not the RAVE or anything, although it does have a pretty cool little Pro 2A engraving on it that no one will ever see.
All of these guns work so much better than they should for their price point. Im a HUGE advocate for the Taurus g2 and g3 series pistols. Insanely reliable for under 300 bucks.
My brother in law, and I have nice guns, however when we're at the range the hi point carbine is our go to fun gun. It malfunctioned a few times when I first shot it, but I think the magazines just needed to be broke in. After that, I've never had a problem with it. Plus, it's very accurate. I load hollow points in it for home defense. However, I'd likely grab my bullpup 12 gauge for home defense first, and hand my AR to my wife so she'll actually look scary while standing behind me.
In these times and all the crazy shit going on ammo is ammo man. I never heard anyone ask if they were gonna get shot with steel case or brass ammo. lol long live the 2A stay safe and my God bless you and yours
As an owner of the new taurus g3c compact 9mm, i haven't had any problems whatsoever running steel casings through it. Ive burned over 2-3 cases through it since ive owned it and haven't experienced any performance abnormalities with it. Nit once have they jammed, stove-piped, etc., nor have they ever refused to rack. I picked up the g3c for around 350 brand new at the local gun and pawn shop here in globe, az and I'm actually becoming a believer in the taurus as i once was actually very skeptical after hearing/reading stories from other taurus owners of problems they've encountered from the g-series line.

I'm just about the opposite of you; I fire a pistol left-handed but a rifle right-handed. When I went to Sniper School, however, they had me shoot the M21 left handed because I'm left eye dominant. I was distinguished honor grad by the way (pat self on back!)
Ran aluminum-cased FMJ 9mm Blazer 115 grain in a Hi Point C-9. Never knew you could have a malfunction where the round feeds *vertically* . You have no idea how hard that was to clear...
I shoot left hand dominant with everything. I'm more accurate with the right hand, but just slower, and more awkward; still not enough to make a difference though.
Russell Halford That is because you are concentrating more on your weak side. We all do it. I am the same way left handed although I would not say more awkward or slower as I am ambidextrous with lots of things. Some things I do left handed and some right handed being not as good with the other hand.
Steel cases are reloadable. In Russia people reload not only 9 mm steel case, but rifle rounds as well. For example 9 mm steel case reloading: ua-cam.com/video/qLNQPhZo9kw/v-deo.html The video is in Russian but auto translated subtitles are available.
I was actually gonna comment that the steel can be reloaded, until I saw your comment. I think we're gonna see more people reloading it this day and time.
On the highpoint carbine rifles you need to keep an eye on the barrel band out front i bought the 40 caliber about 5 years ago and stress tested it over 2000 rounds before a good cleaning performance was impressive to me no jamming no misfires I had purchased a 9mm pistol fore my girlfriend as that was the only caliber she had ever fired i was not impressed with the performance or feel in hand and only got through 2 magazine's before the first jam it was fairly easy to clear but nowhere near the carbine I still have the 40 but not the pistol or the girl they were of the same quality girl and 9mm.
My taurus PT111G2 using steel casings sends sparks out as it ejects. Not sure if I just needs to be broken in more but thats the only problem I've noticed with steel
The only issues I've had with steel case ammo is my cz82 using Tula it barely cycles it with the rounds that feel hotter but most go just far enough back to kick it out and then not feed the next round completely. Even have had them not have enough power to lock the slide back on the last shot.
All 3 of mine have the same issue with Tula, one of my new production mags had a stovepipe on the first shot of Hornady xtp. It also had been carried for months without being cleaned and I work construction so I'm not surprised. Other than that it's been flawless and I haven't put it on paper to see if the accuracy issues I had last time were me or the gun/ammo combination.
What's interesting about the taurus is that it's striker fired, but acts like a DA/SA. It's a striker fired gun with second strike capability. Might come in handy if you plan on shooting a lot of that El cheapo ammo.
Me and a friend were shooting a 9mm glock and 9mm shield, both with federal aluminum cased ammo. We had 6 stove pipes in the clock but the shield was fine. Im just surprised the glock had so many issues.

@@pewpew9193 Tula runs in everything I own. About all I shoot at the range. Even before the price jump in ammo. They say it lessens the life of the barrel. But with the money you save in ammo you can buy two barrels in the lifetime.
Been here since 1.2k keep up the good work 1shot!🤘🏻
Wow! Thank you
If you don't have a Taurus in your gun collection, it is incomplete.💯 #Masterpieces
I got a taurus g2c Love it! For the money you can't go wrong. Just added a crimson trace.
@@thaddeusevans9655 I got that one too, I also got the Taurus 856. It's a nice edc revolver.💯
I mean who doesn't want a Judge
But just got a g3c and i love it
@@kflorence7005 next Taurus I get might be the judge.💯
My collection is full of Sigs and HKs. A piece of shit Taurus would make it look worse if anything. Speak for yourself buddy.
I have to say. Ive never come across this channel. But man out of all the shooting range style channels, off this first video, im more informed off of one video from this channel than all others combined. Thanks, liied and subcribed.
Qualified many times with the G2C, sold it and wish I hadn't, finally replaced with G3C, happy again:)
Love the video and information, thanks
I’ve heard nothing but good from people that owns a Hi point carbine. I don’t own no hi points but they r not bad. I own a few Taurus, I carry a pt140 and occasionally carry my model 66 revolver. Got to love a wheel gun!
The only problems I've ever seen with steel case, was in a micro .380 I was working on. My friend complained that it kept jamming, sure enough, the swell of the steel case would not eject properly through that tiny ejection port
Excellent video, informative & to the point👍👍
Steel case is reloadable it's just more work and expensive because of the special dies
I see. I didnt know that
Love your videos man.. I look forward to watching every one. Even got my older kids watching lol.. keep up the great work.
I used to have a USP 40. and would always jam after a number of the aluminum case rounds
The only ammo I have ever had issues with is that Inceptor ammo ..jammed my Glock, S&W and my Walther ..
I had to get an aftermarket Wolf barrel to shoot cast hand-loads though my G17. Works well.
Thank you I appreciate that
I have been running wolf .308 steel case through my norinco recently and have had no issues.
I still got two boxes of the perfecta ammo and I can't find it anywhere anymore
Do they still use the bi-metal jackets in the brass cased stuff?
@@matthewbeaver5026 They use all-copper jackets in some of their steel-cased stuff, the black boxes with yellow corner.
@@PaulVerhoeven2 good to know. Thank you.
I have the 995 TS. I have wanted to see the full stock model. Thank you for shooting it.
I have no experience with the hipoints but I shoot steel in my Taurus G3 and G2C and it runs fine. I have a lot of confidence in Tula and am thankful they were able to keep me supplied during last years ammo availability stupidity.
Great video and...nuff said on the subject
When I used the Winchester Forged steel cased 9mm, I had the most problem.
Stove pipe.. Even in glocks.
Yea, that Winchester steel stuff is absolute garbage.
It's the only thing that ever made my Glock 19x jam.
@@Dopey_Fudd Meaning they are underloaded.
You should have like a Jimenez 9mm a JA9 along with the Hi-Point or even a Lorcin. My opinion I think those are more cheap or “budget” friendly
Love my 10mm carbine from hi-point. Eats anything, built like a tank. Just runs. I got it for $200 out the door and it has been flawless
Great video !!!! Thank you
I've shot Wolf & Tula 9mm, .40, .45 & .223 and as you stated only noticeable difference is occasional inconsistent power compared to brass cased. Steel cases are not as easy to load in Glock mags due to more friction in steel against steel compared to loading brass against brass. I'll carry a box of each to the range and alternate load in my mags to eliminate this issue.
Good video, love the ammo and your choice of guns. Killer.
Same here bro. Tula and wolf runs just as good as brass in all my guns. Allows me to shoot more for cheap.
Everyone: Lol look at this bad cheap steal ammo!
Me, who has a smattering of historical firearms that won't fire on anything but steel ammo: P A N I C
Cool video my friend!! I run the cheap ammo through my AR 15 in 762x39 and it runs like a dream!!
Thank you!
🇺🇸 First time I’ve noticed your videos. Like your straightforward style, not promising or promoting any thing. Just your honest opinion. Subscribed! 😊
I'm glad you said that because anyone who as actually shot the hi point carbine would probably enjoy it they are fun accurate guns and they last. As far as the handguns I wasn't a fan. But the carbines I shot were awesome.
I have a couple Taurus pistols... they where 300 each.. 0 problem and has fantastic triggers.. also love my ruger pc9.. it's fun to shoot
Good vid, Great info...especially as i’m right handed(sudo ambidextrous) but prefer left hand for long guns.
Thank you
In my experience the issues I've had with 9mm steel was in my ria 1911. They are said to be a bit finicky anyways like AR 15's
My RIA 1911 has no problem with steel case ammo, but it's a 45 like a 1911 is meant to be. The only exception is 10mm
Only reason I have not bought a C9, is that I am afraid it would be too small for my hands....
@@xzqzq I've shot a c9 and I have very large hands. It felt pretty comfortable in my hand
As a Dirt poor DAV be Proud 2 own a Hi point anything !! Hadda Sccy CPX1 but gave it 2 Daughter 4 these troubled times now. Gonna share this video since she has only one box of FMJ now. My gun locker has my G/pa's single barrel alone now. Goes bang everytime so thankful 4 it ;)
OK humble suggestion Daughter not fond of frecoil of 9MM can Udo a video of under $300. 380 pistols pls ?! & if possible include the Sccy CPX 3 or 4 . Then maybe Daughter will buy one & i'll git my gun back LoL ! TY
I got one nine mm carbine I got 3 chambered in 40 cal handgun I spent thousands around through them without cleaning them they still run perfectly fine like a day I bought them
I own one of the newer 995TS model carbines and it's actually one of the funnest guns I have to plink with at the range.
A hipoint carbine in a high tower bullpup chassis with some redball high cap mags is some of the most fun you can have and 100% reliable
Great video, especially for these times.
actually some really accurate info. right on bud
Also I love that your left handed, I can’t really think of anything gun channel that’s left handed.
I love how your videos are not super bias on a certain gun or ammo. Thank you for not being like other UA-cam creators.
“This C-9 is super reliable!”
*Slaps slide to fix out of battery issue immediately after*
Gotta love that ricochet in 10:01 and 10:06
That passed by your head super close btw love ur vids
I just fixed the time in the second shot
Just picked up a g3c and shot some garbage through it for the first time the other day and for the price I actually love it. Handles very nice for the price
Have you done steel ammo in a Smith and Wesson body guard?
I'm out of brass for range practice!
I do have steel ammo 380 acp
Tula and Wolf have worked well for me for training and plinking. No issues there.
I'm just about the opposite of you; I fire a pistol left-handed but a rifle right-handed. When I went to Sniper School, however, they had me shoot the M21 left handed because I'm left eye dominant. I was distinguished honor grad by the way (pat self on back!)
That deserves a pat on the back.
Cool video! Even my 5 yr old daughter was interested lol 👍🏻 Where did you get that ball cap you had on in beginning?
I love my Taurus G2C. I've had for 3 years and not one issue.
Steel cases are reloadable. In Russia people reload not only 9 mm steel case, but rifle rounds as well.
For example 9 mm steel case reloading:
ua-cam.com/video/qLNQPhZo9kw/v-deo.html
The video is in Russian but auto translated subtitles are available.
I use brown bear in my cz82, but I have one mag that will fire hollow points, but the other mag will not
All 3 of mine have the same issue with Tula, one of my new production mags had a stovepipe on the first shot of Hornady xtp.
I have ran hundreds of rounds of brass case ammo in my taurus pt140 with no issues. I bought one box of steel case tulammo and of the 50 two split the case and got stuck in chamber. Switched back to brass and no issues since🤷🏼♂️
