I am 74 years old and live in Edmonton since 1976, 2 of my kids live in Calgary . I want to say Edmonton more quiet than Calgary. Edmonton good for older people to live, you don’t have headaches when weather change like Calgary. In July,Calgary has Stampede, very very fun better than K days in Edmonton. But early August,Edmonton has Heritage days for all people around the world selling their country’ s foods and stuff. West Edmonton mall is the largest Mall of North America.( the mall’s owner also built the mall in Minnesota ,they call Mall of America). If you’re a hockey fan, Edmonton has Oilers with the best fans in the world

Calgary has plenty of nature. Fish Creek Park, It is also one of the largest urban parks in North America, stretching 19 km (12 mi) from east to west. With an area of 13.48 km2 (5.20 sq mi), it is more than three times the size of Vancouver's Stanley Park.

Calgary has the largest urban pathway system in the world. Much larger than edmontons. Plus in Calgary Kananaskis is only about 30 minutes from Calgary. The closest similar area from Edmonton is still Kananaskis.

Crime Comparison Between Calgary and Edmonton
    Calgary Edmonton
    Level of crime 39.43 54.47
Crime increasing in the past 3 years 68.18 69.14
Worries home broken and things stolen 33.69 40.54
Worries being mugged or robbed 28.47 39.16
So yeah the crime rate is significantly higher in Edmonton, it always has been and seems to be getting worse faster.

My spouse and I are moving to Canada next year and we're thinking about choosing Edmonton over Calgary for 2 main reasons: more affordable housing market and more vast urban forest. Just out of curiosity... When would you say one can see the trees and bushes recovering their greenery from winter and when can we see the last autumn leaves fall? (both approximately, of course).

      @HongboShi Рік тому +3

Growing season in Calgary is much shorter than Edmonton. Which means Spring arrives sooner in Edmonton and falls arrive later in Edmonton. Roughly anywhere from last week's of April to first week of May, you can see green leaves budding out of trees and roughly in last weeks of September to first week of October, you will see fall leaves. That's for Edmonton.

Yeahh, ok, but as a former 15 year Edmontonian (originally from Poland), there is something dark and ugly about this city. Yes, the River Valley and downtown area (Oliver) looks beautiful from July to October. But Deadmonton has a terrible ugly layout, terrible streets/roads/industrial areas mixed with residential....its energy and vibe is not pleasant at all. This is not a pretty city. There is something very depressing about it. Calgary feels different, in a good way

As of January 2024 our rents have jumped 500.00 to 1k. Housing is between 650k to 995k.
No jobs in the city Edmonton.
This happened fast and we are expecting more rent, housing jumps in the next 2 years.
Don't move here. Things have changed since this video was made.
No Doctors and 3 to 5 hours in ER.
Waitlist for specialist 6 months to 2 years.
Homeless, crime, and drugs and gangs have skyrocketed.
    Don't move here.
No clue what neighborhood this tuber lives, I know of no communities that knock on your door to welcome you with pies...
I get migraines daily as we have flash storms and pressure changes dramatically in a matter of 20 to 40 mins.
Screws with any joint issues or conditions like fibromiliagia (spell?).
Clearly this guys out of touch as of July 2023, now feels like living in Winnipeg in many neighborhoods as of January 2024.
Nobody has money. I know people working 2 jobs and 1 part time. Just to eat. And having 4 blankets on their beds during the winter because they need to cut their heating costs down.
Also Edmonton used to have a decent transit system. Now, it is an absolute mess. 40 min wait between transfers and they removed most bus stops so you have a 30 min or more walk to a bus stop. In gusting north winds and minus 40 temps OR freezing rain with ice 3 to 4 inches deep.
    Don't move here.

Unbiased reply here from an American living in Houston. I’ve been to both cities and prefer Edmonton. It has way more character and is less sterile than Calgary. I prefer Edmonton as a summertime standalone city…but Calgary is a bit cleaner (and newer) and closer to the mountains with a more connected airport. But I still prefer Edmonton…it’s way more charming and interesting. I travel to Alberta often for the O&G business…I also like sports and Edmonton is crushing Calgary in the NHL dept 😂. It just feels more like a real city and is the capital with the bigger/better university. It just feels way more authentic and interesting of a place to me…but I do love Banff. I wish I could buy a second property in Edmonton (to airbnb in the winters) and to escape the brutal summers here in Houston but I’m a US-born citizen 😭
