  • The Shoe Snob, Justin Fitzpatrick, is a renowned, knowledgeable personality in high end mens footwear, on top of owning his own brand. He has been long outstated in his own opinions, which many people, myself included, pay close attention to and consider hugely valuable. Recently, he made a bold statement that Chinese Maker Oct Tenth, consider among a burgeoning group of reasonably cost handwelted makers emerging, was just as good as the renowned Acme Shoemaker, now considered one of the world's best makers. In this video, we compare one model from each shoe maker and peer into the details more closely to see if he's right, at least in my opinion. So Acme vs Oct 10th. Who wins? Watch to find out. And please leave a comment to share your own opinion.

Yep. Hit the hammer on the nail! Or nailed the hammer with the head!
Many can implement details that are emblematic of bespoke shoes, few can seamlessly integrate all of those details into most functional package, not just as a feature dump, but as a truly well proportioned, elegant and proper execution of them all.
But that is exactly why higher end shoes are priced the way they are. It’s not a mark up but a representation of the detail execution that you cannot get at the entry level price point.

I love your reviews and respect your opinion. I disagree with your take on JFs review of OCT 10. Justin claimed that OCT 10 had shoes that rivaled ACME and owning both, I agree. I now own two pair of Ghurka and think both are amazing. I also own a pair of Acme with another on order. The differences between the brands is small. Both produce incredible shoes with great attention to detail. The most noticable difference is ACME is 3x in price. All Justin was saying is that OCT 10 is producing a shoe very close to ACME and he is correct.

Hello sir, I’ve seen your reviews on Mr. Rao’s videos, and I know you’ve bought a lot of shoes. In your your opinion, what company do you think had the best value with a wide array of sizing? I ask because I’m a US 12.5B / UK 11.5C. Thanks.

Also, would you recommend Oct. 10 or Acme all things considered?

@@brian791 The only brand I know that caters to men larger than a size 12 and with a narrow foot is Cru Nonporeil. Kenwin the owner is a great person and eager to help.

@@brian791 Taking the sizing issue out of the equation, Oct10 makes a wonderful shoe for less than $1000. Acme at $1500- 2000 is phenominal. It is hard to pick one over the other. I like both brands and own both brands.

I think you missed few points which Justin probably ignored to state as they are non-relatable to the general audience, but shoe connoisseurs care about.
Leather selection (no veins), leather toe and heel stiffener, clicking and skieving, fudging along to stitches, heel stacking etc
These things add to the price point difference I believe.

Talked about heel stacking and clicking . Less so but did speak some on fudging but not fudging matching outsole stitching . I didn’t have info on leather vs synthetic stiffeners but did cut it out since I didn’t want to postulate

I just received a pair of Ghurka in a purple patina and they are even more impressive in person. I am considering ordering a pair of Acme

I just received my ACME shoes and I am blown away. Not sure the 2x cost vs Oct10 is justified? Even Yearn does an amazing job for ~500 USD. I am the only one who will know the details of the finish work.

Nevertheless, Oct Tenth will definitely have a larger market with this value.

I disagree. Price doesnt dicate market size. And ACME is a much larger brand than ACME. Acme at ~$1500 is well within the range of many customers in their segment. OCT 10 is doing a great job and their shoes are stunning. ACME is at a higher level, but not by much.
