I'm actually quite impressed. I wasn't expecting this to amount to anything more than a cheap digital amp, but upon hearing it I can tell that Roland has done a lot to try and make that thing sound smooth and tubey, especially when cranked up. It sounds a bit boxy, but for its size I say it sounds great.

I got my Cube 40XL because of Chappers' demo, and this sounds just as good. Cubes are simply the best practice amps, bar none.

I own 4 cubes ; a micro cube, a 20, a 40 and an 80 watts that I use according to the situation. They are not the most"glamourous" amps on earth BUT they always do the job. For example just try the "acoustic" preset with an electro acoustic guitar it's just amazing and makes you wonder why you spent so much money on a(said) specialized acoustic guitar amp!Not to mention the clear and crunch sounds really easy to integrate in a band or a mix. Remember Chappers' blind test with a "hidden" Roland Cube head. Don't trust just your eyes, trust your ears first!

Hi, Hervé. Since you got 4 cubes from Roland, I'd like to make you a question. I'd be really much glad if you can help me. I'm in doubt of buying a Roland Cube 10GX or a Roland Cube 20GX. I did'nt find them on stores in my citie, so I can not test the sound and functions by my self. I've been waching reviews on internet but I still got some questions. I'm gonna use the amp for mainly for praticing guitar. I don't intend to do presentations or rehearsings with this amp, so potension it is not a big issue for me. So the firt question woud be:
      1. Do you test the 10GX your self? Is the quality sound equivalent with the 20GX?
      2. As far as I could understand, the lead amp simulation on the 20GX is the same on the 10GX. If that is correct, the 10GX has the lead amp, crush and clean, plus 7 more on the app, and one for acoust guitar and one for bass; while the 20GX has just the JC Clean and the Lead. How ever, the 20GX has Delay and Reverb separeted knobs plus one knob with more 5 effects. I don't know what to pic. The 13 amps simulation oon the GX or the amps effects on the 20GX. What would you chose?
I'll be very thankfull if you can hep me with your oppinion. Best regards!

Acoustic amps have tweeters. Also u usually can connect ur mic , so 2 separate channels do the songwriter job for you. I have a Fishman Mini. And a Cube 15 - they are for different purposes

@@veilsideFD3S , Thanks for the tip. I ended up picking a Katana 50 and I'm very happy with that. I mostly use for studies. Though is a 50W amp, you can change to 0,5W with no loss of quality. For the ones who are in doubt about good amps with low prices, Boss Katana 50 is a good go.

You would be hard pressed to find better for £95 + that application for the phone is free.... so you are getting a lot of different amps for your money. Also I think the effects actually sound quite tasteful and usable!
The change is a little annoying but if you find 3 amp sounds that work together well, then you won't be trying to change them every single time you sit down to practise anyway. Nice review guys :)

Blackstar ID Core looks decent, this Cube seems upgrade from their new line that only used Iphone App and you could use android only as backing tracks. On other hand Roland seems to add features in rest of new Cube GX only for Iphone users while raising price with rest of functionality being same.

I still have the Micro Cube from back in like 2002 or whenever my dad gifted it to me on Xmas one year. I just plugged it in for the first time in decades and wow it still sounds great. I was shocked. And I love that it is battery powered, because I like to go practice outside when the weather is right. It doesn’t seem like these newer ones come battery powered, which I understand due to their size. It’s a nice feature to have though!

You're correct in saying it does not have batteries but It has a 5.7v input. What I do is take a Ryobi flashlight, gut the lens and bulb and attach a two seater, 12v cigarette lighter adapter into the vacated space, which will hold a DC/DC converter which has a polarity switch and 3v to 12v stepped output. This Roland amp works grand off the 6v setting. I use the 18v Li-Ion Ryobi battery and with a OneSpot daisy chain can run my small, street pedal board and this amp for hours.(I don't know how long it will last because i've never ran out of juice!) I almost run into Ryobi equipment on every garage sale jaunt I take, But even at brand new prices a $100 will get you set, and I use the converted flashlight for a myriad of power needs.

This IS a great sounding Buskers amp!!! Note: Do this at your own risk. May void warranty. Checkout 9V input on the back - get 12V 7AH gel battery + Xtend 4A charger: battery can power 12V guitar pedals + 12 V LED lights. Use 12 to 9 Volt converter to power the amp. Euro Rockers do this all the time. This amp can rock the streets!!! Setup of a guitarist I know who busks Euro streets / festivals / rock concerts making 250 to 1000 Euros / street gig. Get out and Busk!!! Rock the World!!

So it's basically the same as Micro Cube with less effects and no battery option?
Yeah, the smartphone thing is kind of cool. I noticed it has some amp models that the Micro Cube doesn't have. But if that's it, I don't really see the point with this amp. I mean, it's still a practice amp but without a battery option which makes it less portable than Micro Cube. I don't know about the sound but would expect them to sound pretty similar.

My performance setup is two practice amps.
15 watt (10 watt speaker) crate amp on top of a Marshall 8010 10 watt.
    both solid state. Pretty loud.

Honestly, these guys aren't just promoting cheap stuff for the sake of it. These Cube amps are the best you can get all things considered. People go on about these new 5 watt tube amps but they will be more expensive, heavier, less flexible, less durable and less fun. Sure, there are specialist sound out there you may want...

Great sounding amp. Rolands Cubes have always impressed me. Just a side note, thought of an idea for a video for you guys. Why don't you compare the ML-3 Traditional against a Fender mexican Telecaster because, let's be real that's what it basically is!

The ML3 Modern would look so much more badass if came with the same Blue as the Traditional, by the way great sounding Amp

The new ML3s are leaving the factory any day, so should be in the shops in about 4-5 weeks time. You can pre order from your local Chapman retailer now!
