    Hard to argue with all the video evidence of MLB and NCAA softball players hitting this way, but people continue to do so. Thank you as always Matt.

    I watch all your videos for help training my 9 year old daughter in softball, so many people tell me she has beautiful swing.I see the results she's one of the best hitters on her team and people ask me if she has a hitting coach like the other girls do. I always tell them about your videos.Thank you

    Good job Matt in describing how important it is of the bat path

    Mike's back elbow is nicely connected at contact, really uses that torso torque to his advantage.

    That swing does work. Between you and Teacherman I'm seeing EXCELLENT results with my 12u players. That neck slot drill a ways back helped to put it together.

    the best players like Trout, Judge and Ohtani have truly beautiful mechanics with their swing

    It freakin' works. I started this last summer at the end of my son's youth baseball season taking cage at-bats doing exactly that because I watched some of yours and teacherman's videos. I wanted to help my son hit better. So, then I got on hit-trax and jacked it over the virtual fence several times, and I don't mean just barely over the fence. I'm 43 years old and quit playing baseball at age 12 BECAUSE i wasn't a good hitter. I'm like, damn, what if this information had existed back in 1993?

    Your swing instruction is absolutely correct. Like you said, that straight to ball non-sense only drives the ball into the ground or flares it the other way. That said, straight to the ball does happen to work well for high fastballs.

    As you are going back and forth through the swing I couldn't help but notice how little his head moves on the swing. Almost like his whole body is moving while his head is cemented in place.

      @JagBird Рік тому +3

      It is a good thing to note. When your head moves forward, it makes the pitch seem at least 10 miles an hour faster. I had this problem when I was younger and when I fixed it the difference was astounding.

    Hi Matt! The hands go down at both pitches (height wise) but if knob and hands are turning up then do hands go down because of arms, spine and right shoulder down?

    The greatest thing that ever happened for hitting was slow motion digital video! I got so tired of people talking about "down and thru" the ball...even MLB players! Now they can really "see" what they're actually doing.

    Ted Williams dealt with this same silly debate in his book on hitting back in the 1980s I think it was. He said something to the effect that when he became manager of the Senators, there was dumb teaching about swinging down to the ball. Williams believed the proper swing was up through the ball, focused on swing changes with all his players, and every single player had a higher batting average that year.

    Would you agree that lower body strength training makes you more confidant and not have to swing as hard and instead you can focus on path?

    Can you find a player in the MLB that did change their bat path

  • @patricknoonan3610
    @patricknoonan3610 Рік тому

    He levels out his bat path for lower pitches. Pitch selection is a major factor of hitting. Very few in the history of baseball, have proven great if not, excellent at using the whole pate side to side and up and down.

    • @lancastergerard
      @lancastergerard Рік тому

      You would actually want to “level” the swing more for a pitch that’s up. Just like you see on the front on views at the end of the video

    he hits down on the ball. the only problem is trout is the angels. he should have gone free agent and signed with the phillies. angels have not had any starting pitching in 10 years except for ohtani. ohtani is leaving for the mets ,yankees or dodgers next year.

      where do you see him hitting down on the ball. None of what he showed was down on the ball. They are all up and through the ball even the horizontal higher level swing is up and through. ua-cam.com/video/XkgsCbkIzBY/v-deo.html This is swinging down to the ball and Trout is not doing this.

    • @jdharris005
      @jdharris005 Рік тому +4

      He does not hit down on the ball. Trout may say that but it’s a feel vs real thing. That may be how he feels but it’s not what he actually does. Video shows that

  • @jaekaetee

    Love your content but this video makes zero sense. That knob is not turned up. That bat path is flat. His posture creates what looks like an upward knob path. To teach this wout teaching posture and rear leg movements will lead to poor results. And to recreate Trout's posture takes incredible strength and athleticism. Also, in both swings his hands move down and forward. It's not the barrel turning back. Trout himself has stated in interviews he uses drills that promote getting his hands down on top of the ball with the barrel up. You're emphasizing aspects of the swing that are a result of opposing movements. And justifying the those movements w slow mo video with no mention of where those movements are in relation to his swing is dangerous. Then compounding the problem w drills that reinforce those movements will lead to poor performance. And there's no mention of front side mechanics. A hitter's front elbow and bottom hand might be more important than anything that happens at his backside. I say, just teach ball flight and balance. Teach backspin. Allow the hitter (of whatever age) to be an athlete. We should avoid over coaching and infecting the player's thought process with minutia like, "turn the barrel." Simply hit the ball hard, up the middle with backspin. Joey Votto said it best "the flight of the ball will teach everything about the swing." Player's should know what the desired result should look like. Start there, then work backwards when developing a swing. Lets allow the athlete to get himself into positions where the result is a hard hit ball with backspin.

      You have feel vs real. If in your head swinging down to the ball gets your barrel behind the ball ok. I think he meant you can see the knob start to go slightly up. It's more of a result of body tilt.
