    I would love to see a Tatis or Acuna breakdown. However, an Ohtani breakdown would be awesome. His hitting dynamics is crazy with his back foot moving all over the place. It surprises me he's as successful as he is when it comes to his at bats.

      Agreed. Ohtanis swing is so compact too, yet he hits for such power. Freak! Love watching him

    Shoulder path is related to posture. If the batter doesn't push his hips back, he/she will be more up right, and the shoulders will rotate parallel to the ground, or the shoulder will go north/south. But, when the torso tilts at loading and changes from an upright posture to an angled posture, the shoulders will rotate around the axis of the torso causing (or allowing) the front shoulder to move "up and back" and the back shoulder to move "down and underneath". There are many other things that can affect bath path, but in general posture from hip hinge and upper body tilt greatly affect bat path and swing mechanics.

    Mark DeRosa on MLB network always says Mike Trout swings with his abs and it’s so true. Now I see it every time he swings.

    • @kevinmcgrath7509
      @kevinmcgrath7509 3 роки тому +1

      Flex your abs, and then try flexing your glutes/ass. It's like try to rub your stomach in a circle and pat your head. DeRosa is funny and a smart guy but is wrong.

    Very nice breakdown... like the repetitive rewinding to really visualize what's going on there. That he has been able to use the same mechanics for so long is a testament to learning it right the first time. Be interesting to see Guerrero Jr's swing this year vs last year... the numbers are drastically different, interesting to see if it's mechanical or mental... his exit velo is crazy.

    Great break down and the back shoulder is level with the pitch higher or lower depending in the location of the ball, so this Is a low ball so his shoulder is lower.

    I've been called crazy for years arguing with coaches about shoulder tilt. It's mind boggling how ppl can't see this in great hitters swings. I feel validated now. 😁

    would love to see the breakdown of vlad jr. from this season to last season and what he was able to do to get his launch angle right. it seems like he used to be a rigid upright kind of swinger that beat the ball into the dirt but all his other swing metrics looked good. he's managed to get some loft in his swing somehow this season and his bat speed is playing a lot better.

  • @Pimeface
    @Pimeface 3 роки тому

    There is no tilting/dipping of the back shoulder. MAINTAINING the spine angle established when the batter is in his "spot" (fanny out, chest over plate) automatically brings the back shoulder under the front shoulder when the batter turns/rotates his torso during the swing. Not maintaining the initial spine angle causes the batters to pull off the ball. Torso rotation with a maintained spine angle also automatically provides the good bottom hand up/top hand down position for impact and provides a down-then-up swing.

    Since he's in the news just a bit these days (LOL) Ohtani would be interesting, what he does when he really connects and hits a monster home run, why the velocity of his hits is so high and how he has sometimes managed to still hit the ball hard when he's jammed up? Then, what does he need to do to improve and become more consistent? The thing about Trout that seems to be so rare is the consistency year-to-year, he never seems to get in a slump for long and he's never had an off season, a "bad" season for him is still top five in MVP.

    I look at batting scientifically. As humans we're all similar, however we have our own unique physiology so what works for Mike Trout - chances are it wouldn't work for anyone else. Hitting is all about the transference of kinetic energy, and the best way for you to transfer that energy you're generating in your swing into (not onto) the ball, and honestly as I pointed out - every player is unique - the hitter needs to find what works best for them - not only on how to generate the most kinetic energy in their swing but how to get it into the ball...
    I mean there is nothing wrong with admiring Trout's swing and his mechanics, but if you try to emulate that chances are it's not going to work out too well for you.... If you want to be a good hitter just practice, find what's comfortable for you, and it doesn't even need to be comfortable really - no one said hitting should be comfortable, tinker around and find the best way to transfer that energy into the ball - and you know when you found the right stance and swing when you're not even feeling the ball come off the bat.. Look, I call the "sweet spot" of the bat the "circuit" because that's where all of that energy you generated in the swing goes into the ball - and notice I say "into" rather than "onto" because if you're putting that energy onto the ball then you're not making full contact, and that can be for several reasons, timing, not hitting the ball square and of course it could be the pitch itself - and that is fine BTW, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, you're just not going to put the ball where you want it to go, but that doesn't mean you're not going to pull it and get a hit just on the opposite side of what you were aiming for.....
    But like I said, you will know when you have found the right swing when balls fly off your bat without you feeling it.. And the reason why you don't feel it is because there is nothing to feel because all of that energy has successfully been transferred into the ball, the energy has left your bat and gone... And look, I'm sure we've all taken one off the bat and felt it in the hands, especially on a cold spring morning or evening at practice.. Well when that happens, that's essentially all of the energy from your swing directed right back at you - the ball essentially reflected that energy directly into your hands up your arms -- and yes it does feel almost exactly like getting an electric shock because that's exactly what it was.. It's essentially the ball hitting you, NOT you hitting the ball, lol...
    So yea, my point is that the physics of hitting really do matter and every hitter has a different physiology hence a unique way to apply those physics into hitting.. Look, the goal is to hit the ball and no one said it has to be pretty or even make sense..

    • @Veaseify
      @Veaseify 3 роки тому

      You are right, it is like golf - if you watch a lot of coaching videos all of the mechanical ideas are the same, then you watch a PGA tournament and every player seems to swing differently. The point is that at the moment of impact thay are all in the right position, how they got there is totally individual.
