- In today's video, I'll be going over the Ginkaku retcon & explaining the death of the second Hokage.
The retcon aspect is whether his death by the Kinkaku unit was retconned to be by Kinkaku & Ginkaku, which is very probable. The hokage escort unit could've been on their way to said peace summit when Ginkaku/Kinkaku and their goons surrounded them. But wasn't the Raikage was supposed to be there?
Honestly this whole topic is so wrapped in ambiguity, you can basically alter it & have your own version of how events transpired.

For another possibility, which would only be obvious to Japanese readers, the "Kinkaku Unit" might only be called that because of the meaning of the name/word "Kinkaku". Kinkaku can be translated as "gold pavilion", and Ginkaku can be translated as "silver pavilion", hence their nickname of "the gold and silver brothers". With this in mind, the "Kinkaku unit" might possibly just be referring to them as the Cloud's "golden unit", aka the strongest ninja/strongest unit in the cloud village. After all, you'd probably wanna send your strongest unit on the mission to assassinate the Second Hokage lol, especially if these are the same guys who restrained the nine tails temporarily in the past. They might even be the same crew that restrained the 8 tails whenever it went on a rampage too. That's not to say that Tobirama is just calling them the "golden unit", that might be their official name in the Cloud Village, but they might have come up with the name in reference to the word "golden/kinkaku", rather than the name of the infamous criminal known as "Kinkaku". In which case, Kinkaku doesn't actually need to currently be in the unit or have ever been in the unit before (though I wouldn't be surprised if he once was before he became a rogue ninja), and the same goes for Ginkaku. The bigger problem is the fact that Tobirama honestly believed his team couldn't just body these ninja lol, ESPECIALLY if Kinkaku and Ginkaku weren't there. I can understand if all 20 can defeat Tobirama solo, but cmon, add Hiruzen, Danzo, Kagami Uchiha, and all the others to the mix, and there's no way they aren't defeating these nameless Cloud ninja lmaoooo. Also, unless I'm completely mistaken, the Leaf Village and Cloud Village were at war when Tobirama died (during the First Great Ninja War), so I don't think this was some rogue ninja plot from some Kinkaku followers, this was probably just a mission from the Cloud Village during the war.
it is possible that the group was called Kinkaku as in "Golden", but it'd just be quite the coincidence that the second Hokage was ambushed & driven to the brink of death by Kinkaku (& his brother) and then he was actually killed by a completely separate group that happened to share that name. The Cloud & Leaf were at war, but both the 2nd Hokage & 2nd Raikage attempted to have foster a peace pact, until Ginkaku & Kinkaku crashed the summit & attacked the both of them. So I guess if the 2nd Raikage was killed in the encounter & the 3rd didnt share his predecessors sentiment & wanted war instead, then maybe he would've sent the Ginkaku force to ambush Tobirama. Though at that point you could argue that Kinkaku (&probably Ginkaku too) could've still been part of the cloud, since their "crimes" would've been no different from what the 3rd Raikage is ordering rn, and even Gin&Kin recognized Darui's 3rd Raikage tattoo & seemed to low-key respect the 3rd.
There's been a recent development on this topic, which is the official Naruto website claiming the Kinkaku Unit repped the Cloud Village. So Kinkaku and Ginkaku likely weren't affiliated with the Unit. Unless the website statement is wrong.

This happen during the second great war evening if the Brothers was a part of the squad it was wartimes most likely the squad was made to hunt down the Brothers
but if thats the case, why would they track down the hokage

There's a lot of plotholes in Naruto. I wish I could rewrite the entire series. Well, Tobirama has this jutsu called "Eternal Darkness" . It's a Genjutsu and the surroundings of the enemy becomes black seeing nothing while Tobirama can freely attack them while the enemies are still under that illusion or Genjutsu. Tobirama could have used that jutsu to kill the Kinkaku unit.
Well used that jutsu WHEN killing the Kinkaku unit, the jutsu itself obviously didn't kill them lol

It's stated in Chapter 481 that Tobirama died while stalling/fighting the "Kinkaku Unit" while he himself and his Team where being pursued in an unknown location.
In the War arc it's then stated mutliple times that Kinkaku and Ginkakau staged a coup d etat, while the leaf and the cloud were entertaining alliance negotiations. This "coup d'état' resultated in the death of the 2nd Raikage and Hokage.
The Gold and Silver Brothers themselves stated that they indeed beat/ killed Tobirama while they were being reanimated.
Sry... but what exactly was the retcon here? From all the information we received it's pretty clear that Kinkaku and Ginkaku were among the forces who pursued/ killed the 2nd Hokage, why wouldn't they be to begin with when Tobiramma explicity states the Name of the Unit they are the leaders of?

So you're wondering if the "Kinkaku Unit" mentioned in Chapter 481 became the "Kinkaku and Ginkaku" ensemble introduced in Chapter 525, based on the fact that Tobirama didn't name these two by name? I'm gonna be honest, that assumption doesn't really base itself on much.
Not only considering that the "Kinkaku Unit" itself is obviously named after Kinkaku himself, making their connection more than obvious. If the "Kinkaku" Unit is synonymous with Kinkaku himself, well would there be a need even specifically mention that Kinkaku is a part of that force?
Let's say Madara builds his own Unit, with which he always go on his missions and that after a certain time, him and his own Unit would be called the "Madara Unit". If someone find himself being pursued by said Unit would they say "Madara is pursuing us" or, "The Madara Unit is pursuing us"?
It's not to say that Kishimoto couldn't have retconned the "Kinkaku Unit" into "Kinkaku and Ginkaku" (even if I find it improbable), it's more that definitely stating it as a retcon, because Tobirama didn't specify that the the Kinkaku force had Kinkaku in it, is a bit...

Its very simple. When the brothers were revived, ginkaku wasnt happy that the 2nd hokage revived them after they "beat him before".
Meaning, they thought tobirama was the one that revived him. Meaning they werent there when tobirama died. They were probably already dead.
In conclu, tobirama lost to a bunch of no names.
According to the Timeline the Gold and Silver Brothers die a year after Tobirama, so they are upset that they are revived by Tobirama when they are supposed to have killed him.
the kyubi chakra cant really be used unless one of them dies as it's stated by kakuzu
that they only get like that referring to v2 cloak when one of them kicks the bucket

the kingaku unit fought the kyubi under the employ of the hidden cloud and ate it's chakra
then some time after went after the raikage and tobirama at a peace summit heavily injuring tobirama and stealing the six path tools
then later, kingaku unit went after tobirama and his team when they finished a mission. tobirama stayed behind fighting the group so his team could escape holding off the group even managing to kill kingaku which caused gingaku to go into his v2 form killing tobirama something kakuzu witnessed
kingaku and ginkaku note likely never used their six path tools as had they did, tobirama would be sealed away ie not in the afterlife meaning he could not be edo tensei revived like how Minato could be revived in part 1 cause he was sealed in the shingami belly.
yes I'm to think kingaku bros beat tobirama twice as the raikage event and the tobirama protecting his squad one don't fit together whatsoever, one had a squad of 20 involved where the other was just kin&gin also v2 was never used and there was no noted deaths in that instance where the kingaku squad one had both one of the kin brothers die as well as tobirama
I think that's a fair interpretation of how things went down, tho it's really hard to tell whether Tobirama managed to kill either of the brothers & the statements that they make when they're revived make it seem unlikely that Tobirama killed either of them
"Snared by the Second's jutsu, although we've defeated him before". Maybe he just gravely injured Kinkaku & then Ginkaku snapped & went to V2 cloak.
From how kakuzu's phrases it
it seems like tobirama killed one brother causing the other to go v2 which allowed him to kill the second hokage
technically the defeated thing could refer to the first fight at the summit or just both since tobirama technically lost both times
what makes tobirama defeat worse was that they killed him meaning they didt even use their sealing jutsu as if they did then tobirama's soul wouldt be the afterlife to be revived by edo tensei
@@nagatouzumaki4047I say it's more that they're there fighting in the Fourth Ninja War, hence the comment "The Second's Technique brought us back even though we killed him" because they thought that he somehow survived and was the one who summoned them to fight, without thinking that in reality someone else had mastered the Edo Tensei.

the death is bad anyway with how powerful we see the secound hokage i just cant see him losing to 20 goons + kink & one in the stink the fight they had in the war arc was so bad im like these two are idiots they couldnt of beat a man that made the foundation of the new ninja world, plus minato beating 1000 faceless goons its like he can beat so many but 20 guys beat the 2nd its really just bad writing in the end, like these men kill the 2nd the leaf is pretty much open you beat there big dog take the villiage then they just go missing from the story
