The "Hemomancer " cheat sheet The Brood (1979), Phase IV (1974), Slither (2006), Alien 3 (1992) From Beyond (1986)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And for today's genre, we’re gonna be looking at another one of my all time favourites - Sci Fi Horror. This is one of those sub-genres that has a great blend of two film types that stimulate both your fear and your imagination at the same time. In order for horror sci-fi to work well - it needs to find the balance between the jump scares, suspense and gore of the horror genre, while catering to the intriguing scientific parts of science fiction.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THe first movie to never watch alone is David Cronenberg's The Brood (1979),

this sci-fi horror Follows a man called Frank who’s Ex wife is under the care of an unorthodox psychologist, who uses theatrical techniques to break the psychological blocks in his very troubled patients. Outraged to find that his Ex has been abusing his daughter, Frank attempts to confront his wife only to find that there is a lot more going on at this clinic than a simple theatrical performance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another creepy and uniquely weird movie is Director Saul Bass Phase IV (1974)
Get it here: amzn.to/2QyK2LY
The story centers around two scientist working in the Arizona desert who have been studying a colony of super-intelligent ants. Impatient and looking for some noteworthy results, one of the scientists decides to provoke the colony, which in turn triggers them to react in a rather unexpected way- as the ants have some plans of their own.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now the next sci-fi horror is James Gunn’s B movieish comedy- Slither (2006),
Get it here: amzn.to/2BXn0ud
When a meteor falls in the woods near the small town of Wheelsy, a local man called Grant comes across a weird egg. During the next couple of days Grant starts to develop an insatiable hunger for meat. And wherever Grant goes, the local people within the town all start behaving strangely- as though their body's had been overtaken by something alien.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next flicks never watch alone is Alien ³ the Director's Cut (1992)
Get it here:. amzn.to/2QuU8gT
Continuing straight after the 2nd movie Ellen Ripley crash-lands on Fiorina 161, a wasteland, only inhabited by criminals within a maximum security prison. Waiting until she is rescued by her employers; a series of murders occur shortly after her arrival, and Ripley soon realizes that perhaps she’s not the only unwelcome guest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And finally we have the scary movies From Beyond (1986), directed by stuart Gordon & based on a H.P. Lovecraft short story. Get it here: amzn.to/2QAlx17
The Movie follows Dr Edward Pretorius and his assistant Crawford who’ve developed the Resonator; a machine that allows anyone in close proximity to gain their sixth sense. Unable to control the power of the mysterious device, something terrible happens to Dr Pretorius, and Crawford ends up confined in an insane asylum. Now a new Dr wants to champion Pretorius’ work and decides to continue the experiment.

What's your fav Sci-fi Horror and what movie genre should I do next?
HyperDrive You could do space western or raypunk😃
HyperDrive jason x best sci fi horror ever made
@random dude, space western would be very kool- would probably add anime to the mix for that one. I could give raypunk a go.. I do love Barbarella and other similar films (I think I've covered it before mind you).
@Shane Murtagh, I haven't seen that in a while, think the last one I've seen recently was Freddy vs Jason
@Kevin you go some nice ones there- haven't seen deep rising in ages, might check it out again.
I always loved Vasquez's comeback early in aliens. As for from beyond, don't know if it would make lovecraft spin in his tomb, but it sure was entertaining
Altered States is probably my favorite sci fi horror movie
@K.M. Smith I would say it qualifies as psychological horror. It certainly horrified me as a kid experimenting with the stuff in that film. It made a weird kind of sense, devolving along the genetic memory chain via powerful hallucinogens.
I like dat😁👍
Alejandro Valadez love that movie!
Pandorum (2009) is a really underrated sci-fi horror imo.
It sure is- one of my fav.
I just subscribed to your channel and have been adding to my letterboxd watchlist for the past hour. Keep up the great suggestions!
That’s a much better way of bringing in the advertising. You absolutely nailed it this time, good show.
Also, Gods yes Alien 3! Such a criminally under appreciated film
Cheers! Criminally underappreciated films.. now that is an idea for a video, thanks again!
I can think of more than a few
love the start! Such a classic.
Thank you for doing the whole “where you can watch these movies” thing you are the first person I have ever seen do this! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Me and a friend stumbled over Phase IV when hanging around, smoking pot and no idea what to do that evening. It hasnt lost its creepy atmosphere till today. We also had a good laugh when we found out, that a german punk band used a quote from the movie about amazonian ants and their eating habits.
Subscribed, keep going with these neat suggestions please.
Cheers! Will do!
high quility as always . subscriber from hong kong .
Man: Have you ever been mistake as a man?
Girl: No, have you?
Man: Only when Im next to you
Saw them all. Good stuff
0:04 best roast ever XD
Thanks Phase IV, that ant coming out of hand shot is now in my head forever and that alone terrifies me
all in all a good selection I must eventually watch!
These all sound very interesting. Thank you
You're welcome!
Excellent list, From Beyond is a personal favourite. One of the best Lovecraft adaptations IMO
I Like from beyond more than I like Reanimator. Sure it has some stuff that Lovecraft would've never included in a story, but aside from that, the film is one the most lovecraftian I've ever seen. Taking under consideration that only the first ten minutes cover the short story, its pretty impressive, since Lovecraft is quite difficult to take to big screen
There is no Alien3 Directors Cut!
Its called "Assembly cut".
The director David Fincher has turned his back on it.
Indeed- it's still better than the original version. God I hated that so much.
The Assembly cut is far superior yes :)
What is an assembly cut? New to me. Whatever it is I'd like to see it
Hate Slither - freaks me out. Turned my husband onto "From Beyond" and he's hooked on it
i'm not a fan of gore but i loved slither due to the actors
I love Jeffrey Combs😁👍
and barbara crampton. but i especially loved his over the top fbi agent in the frighteners
I hope the Amazon affiliate is working out. It is a good fit for your channel and a win-win for your viewers.
4:02 "Ripley crash-lands on Fiorina 161"...
"Fiorina" and "Crash" often go together, I guess. o.O
sliver was fantastic, I love nathan fillion
Truly spectacular, agree.
also elizabeth banks, for me. it had a pretty great cast overall
Man, you have to see Feast & Feast 2.
those were two interesting movies. still haven't decided if i liked it because i don't like gore generally
I adore Alien 3 no matter what
It's so underrated, but the "Assembly Cut" is great! Alien is a masterpiece, Aliens was a lot of fun, but a little cheesy at parts. What I really liked about Alien 3 was how bleak it was, how grounded the characters were, and how the character of Ripley developed. There is a certain sadness and relief that comes at the end that just gets better every time I watch it.
I like dat too😁👍
Alien 3 was so underrated. director's cut for all 4 of the Alien films were great.
Best sci-fi horror (and cosmic horror) has to be Alien.
Suggestion vid : *Recommended Foreign Language Horrors*
I hated Alien3 always... until... the Directors Cut came out. The best Alien now besides the first one! Really its amazing!!!
No Pandorum?
In part 1.
I've watched a lot (>3k) films but HyperDrive still seems to find some old gems!
Excuse me, where's The Stuff? Where's Tusk? This my fav subgenre too you could do a dozen of these videos
That's the plan batman!
tusk is more like human centipede though
All hail Dr Praetorius, hottest Dom in the history of S&M cinema. You can flip my switch any time, Edward.
Please do a video on the best movies on serial murderer from all over the world...
I was expecting Maximum Overdrive. Good list though.
I'm sure #3 might have it :-D
Ohhh yeah! I saw it as a kid, and remember being freaked out seeing one of the kids from the baseball team get his head crushed by a steamroller...!😱😁👍
John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness is a great Halloween movie. More supernatural horror than science fiction, I guess, but I would still call it science fiction horror.
It's has scientists lol and it's a horror.. it's kinda sci-fi horror. I've put it in one of my videos.. can't remember which one though.. think it was apocalyptic.
This movie scared the crap out of me!
Would suggest Xtro and maybe Antibirth for its ending.
I liked Scanners. The exploding heads fucked me up as a kid. I'd also like to see a movie based off of Dan Simmon's Horror/Sci-fi novel Carrion Comfort. Motherfuckers were playing human chess with victims of concentration camps. Some disturbing shit. The book is mind-blowing.
Yes anything made by Dan Simmons would be amazing- hearing that Amazon might be releasing a Hyperion series is a good start. The books would have been terrible in a movie format mind you.
Right on!
Annihilation isn't necessarily sci fi horror, more like thriller, but it's pretty good too.
I would have picked Alien over Alien3 anyday...I didn't even bother using the superscript 3 because I can't be bothered to waste that much effort on that film. Alien isn't predicated on a gigantic egg-shaped plothole.
Reminder the story in alien 3 was supposed to be in a wooden spaceship with monks
Kool.
I haven't seen one mention of Hardware
Love slither so much
What is the name of the B&W movie at 0:11?
ETHANOS “they live” only some of it is in black and white and it’s when the main guy puts these special glasses on to see aliens 👽 I haven’t seen it yet but it looks pretty good
@@oriondurdaller3349 Thank you so much! I'm definitely gonna check it out. It looks very unique
ETHANOS no problem
The real horror of Alien3 is just how badly the producers can fuck up a franchise! Oh the huge manateeeeee!~
Well that's disappointing. I've already seen and enjoyed each of the films on your list. Great choices.
Cheers! Well I should have another similar theme for next week
Yeah, I felt the same way.
Slither is hilarious. 👍
Slasher movies ?
I have a part one- will do a part two probably at the end of the month.
HyperDriev i will wait.
Videodrome freaked me out?
I fucking love From Beyond. Better than Re-Animator in my opinion.
Where is part 1?
It's in the playlist- Sci-fi horror, has a woman's face also red.
Hmmmm.....I'm just wondering if tetsuo: the iron man would qualify as a Sci - fi horror for this list!? It definitely encapsulates a science fiction pedigree upon a cyber - punk narrative, but honestly it is an an absolute mindfuck of a film! Think if it as the Japanese equivalent to eraserhead! Mainstream audiences would never embrace it or collectively understand it!
It's definitely has a cyberpunk vibe- if I do another cyberpunk list I'd probably put it in it.
I'm a new subscriber to your channel, so I'll definitely check out the prior lists you have created (ps....and it's cool that you have shown some appreciation towards from beyond. Definitely a hidden gem within the genre that's constantly overshadowed by the likes of re-animator, Hellraiser and even society along the cult lines!) Does Brian yuzna even make movies in general these days....?
I actually threw out all of the theatrical cuts of the Alien Franchise and only kept the directors cuts. They are beyond a doubt better than what we saw in theaters.
you should see "Brain Damage"
VIRUS GAVE ME NIGHTMARES
Yeah. Aliens is more of a scifi action flick than a horror, any day of the week. Awesome film. But not a horror.
But is slither more disgusting than seeking psychiatric help from Oliver Reed?
W
Nice video man, but mix your tone up a little, ending each line on the same note makes you sound a little amateur. You have a lot to say and clearly know your stuff, but it kinda gets lost in your pronunciation bro.
I appreciate the feedback -been experimenting with my intonation, some say its fine, some say its too uptone, some monotone! But I think I've got it just right with the one I'm working on now.
@@Hyperdriveuk Awesome, look forward to hearing it, and watching more of your excellent work brother
Ha ha, did lunatic Hollywood mom's like January Jones and Kim Kardashian get the idea to eat their baby's placentas from 'The Brood'?🤢🤮
I don't understand why it's necessary to talk in such a strange and affected manner (not talking about English accent) but whatever, none of my fucking business - really like most of the choices here - Aliens 3 director's cut doesn't belong on this list in my opinion, but I do think it's great, just too high profile.
I wasnt impressed with From Beyond....sorry
