so cool! i always love seeing videos like this on my local line.. are you going to do more driver's view videos in the future? and how did you film video from there? i suspect there was a very nice train driver involved..
Rainy night driver's view is the best! Looks so... picturesque? If only it was a comeng. Also, I forgot how much the X'Trapolis has wheelslip. It happens at almost every station when raining. Not good.
Do you know the line speed from Heidelberg to Rosanna after the Heidelberg tunnel? Used to get the 3.38pm at Heidelberg outbound and sometimes it felt like we were rocking off the tracks going through the cutting!
Super interesting to see that Melbourne's railway uses tripcock/trainstop protection for signals. Reminds me of the London Underground (where that's still very common). I'd love to know if drivers have any sort of signal repitition into the cab, etiher in the form of something super basic (like the AWS system in Britain) or more advanced (e.g. CAWS in Ireland or ACES on the NEC in the US).
Great video from the cab would enjoy anymore you can do also a daylight video would be a lot better for us not in Melbourne. almost had a cab ride in the M>train days but was coming back to Sydney and had to give it a miss.
@@Taitset Therefore they should have more powerful lights to be able to stop when it is not in their line of sight, hence a vehicle on tracks in the far distance.
@@markmcdonald9260 You can see the high beams in use several times in this video, they are very bright. But you can't have them on all the time - for the same reason you can't on the road.
I am no fan of the Xtraps but they do make some nice sounds (despite the crazy sounding slipping). They also do accelerate very fast. They dont have very good lights though which makes it hard to see outside especially for the driver.
No, those signals on the right are co-actors, which just repeat the aspect of the signal on the left in order to provide better visibility when approaching around a curve.
I hate public transport with a passion! But since I've been catching the train everyday from Eltham to Flinders street for work on the Metro project im loving all these videos. I worked on the last Comeng upgrade years ago at Craigieburn doing the safety upgrade on the doors.
Unlike other drivers view videos, this actually has info about whats on screen!! Everything you do is top notch!

Glad you enjoyed it! It's not something I'll be doing on a regular basis. You are correct that a friendly driver was involved in some way. 😉
Certainly brought back a few memories of late nite eltham S,HBs👋👋👍👍

Rode the hurstbridge line today to Eltham, so glad I watched your video earlier this week. Great views and knew what to look for.
I found it interesting having seen your video about train horns and then watching this and applying that knowledge!
Wow Taitset went from 12.2k to 12.4k subs in a day a new record for martin
Hearing that x’trampoline slip in the wet 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks well illustrated and great footage!
Never really traveled on the hurstbridge line pretty cool
Heidelberg looks a lot like Caulfield and Essendon train stations I think the other one was oakleigh
Nice one

The curve board is visible at 17:28, but I can't quite read it- I think it's 70km/h. I know exactly what you mean though, it's a really rough bit!
Can we pls see one on the city loop
Very interesting, thanks. It’s surprising how poorly the headlights illuminate the track ahead.
Was thinking this too
17:23 I thought the track went to single track and when I saw the other train I thought the video was about to end💀
How did you get a camera in there?
When a train buff loves a train very much…
I can neither confirm, nor deny, that it was done using magic.
I always wanted Dennis the menace to be the name of the station
I was wondering how a driver slows down at a station? Do they reduce speed or just coast and slowly apply the brakes?

Yep, tripcocks still used in both Melbourne and Sydney. There's no signal repetition in the cab.

Is it me or does it seem that the trains headlights are not very powerfull, how do you see things on the track from a distance?
Short answer- you just can't. Unlike road vehicles, it's normal for trains to be unable to stop within their line of sight.

I can picture the drivers at Eaglemont holding their breath
So many seemingly redundant whistle posts...
Great Video! Just out of curiocity, how did you record audio in the carriage and video in the cab simultaneously without attending them both?
Use separate devices, then sync their audio with a marker such as the whistle of the train. That's how I would do it.

The headlights on the train are very poor especially on curves where the lights go off to the side and don't light the tracks at all........
can trains travel on both tracks between Heidelberg and Rossana?

How many Hurstbridge videos are u doing
That's it for the moment.
Are you driving this or is someone else
No, I'm not a driver, this was taken by a friend.

What do you hate about public transport? I think its ok
