In this scene Bond is using a Belgian factory made " Fabrique Nationale" Browning 1910 pistol.....commonly called a "Browning FN 1910", in the close up of him screwing on the silencer you can see a portion the FN script engraved on the handgrip, this was the first and lowest budget Bond film remember, the detail of consistent props had not been established and so the most readily available prop gun with a silencer from the films armourer was used. Incidentally it was the same model hand gun , an FN1910, that was used in the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand which precipitated the start of WW1...without a silencer/suppressor in that instance.
@@paleoph6168 ah yes, you are quite right, it is the FN 1910, getting myself mixed up there!!, it's what happens when you get past aged 60!! 🙄many thanks for picking up on that , I shall edit edit my original post with the correction if I may, to save confusion for others. Bond is holding a 32 auto Browning 1910 made by Fabrique National ( FN ), you can see there is no hammer. when he shoots, the slide does not move nor eject spent shells, the suppressor is a fake tube, that slides onto the barrel, with talc inside when he blows the smoke out. I have both a 32 auto FN 1910, and a Remington 51 (similar) in 32 auto. they are quiet without suppressors. . if you half the powder charge it sounds like a bottle cork popping out.
Yeah the PPK wasn’t even in Dr. No anyways. They couldn’t get one so the larger Walther PP was used instead but they couldn’t get the suppressor to fit the prop right so the FN stood in.
Yeah because it was a fake surpressor. Which adds to the hilarious list of ironic instances regarding the arms used in the film, starting with: 1. Bond supposedly being given a Walther PPK, when what was actually used in the film was the older Walther PP. 2. Bond's initial pistol in the film being a Beretta M1934, which was a stand-in for what is supposed to be a Beretta 418. 3. The PPK replacing the Beretta due having a larger .32 ACP cartridge - which would make sense if the film used the .25 ACP Beretta 418, but the M1934 fires a more powerful .380 ACP cartridge, making it counterintuitive to the "stopping power" basis of the replacement. 4. Usage of the FN Model 1910 for this scene, because production could not find a suppressor available that can fit on the Walther. 5. As I mentioned above, the suppressor used was not even an actual one. Lmao. 6. Bond identifying Professor Dent's handgun as a Smith & Wesson, when the said company never made M1911-style pistols at the time nor did they hold just six rounds, meaning that for the scene Dent was meant to use a S&W revolver instead of a semi-auto pistol. Source: IMFDB
Bonds gun was actually a25 cal browning I read somewhere that the suppressor they had didn't fit the walther pp by the way bond was given a pp in dr.no for some reason he didn't carry a ppk until from Russia with love
The pistol Professor Dent used is definitely a suppressed M1911A1. It's much bigger than a S&W Model 52 and lacks the target sights. The reason why Bond identifies the pistol as a S&W was because the script intended it to be a revolver, but the in the end the production used the one of the suppressed M1911A1s that was previously used by two of the Three Blind Mice assassins earlier in the film. Source: IMFDB
You could, but you have to keep the silencer recharged with water. I've had some issues with the increased blow back causing the ejector extractor to fly out; has happened twice.
@@shai_lu_shai I found a fair amount of blow back of soot with the suppressor and the ejector pin can be dislodged. Lost one of those. It’s fun, but not something to do all the time.
@Isiedru Pangelinan Wrong. Original Colt design 1911 magazines are seven rounds with one in the pipe. Mec Gar and Wilson Combat make flush fit eight round magazines, but they did not come about until long after this movie was made.
