  • This is how to do a rear differential fluid change on a 2013 to 2019 Ford escape. I know in the video I initially say fusion, but I was mistaken. It can be done with very little tools and is made a lot easier on a lift, but could be done from the ground or jackstands. Cording to Ford, this is not possible, but with a serpentine belt tool and a brake bleeder, I can be done. Hope this helps someone, don’t forget to like and subscribe. Thank you!

My 2013 Escape had an Allen hex plug. I had to cut an Allen wrench short side about an 1/8 “. Then I just slipped a 10mm (or whatever size fit) deep socked over the long side of the Allen wrench and then a socket extension for a handle and leverage. Almost everything I read said it was a the bolt like yours and I played hell trying to get my belt tool to get into place. You can’t see up there. After finally discovering it was a hex, I went to town.

That’s weird they’d be different but glad you figured it out.

My escape is making a bad grinding noise from rear. Did changing the fluid on that escape fix the issue or does it need a rear end?

It made it a bit quieter but it did not solve the problem. This fix is more of a do this before it gets to that grinding point.

@@justthetipgarage5305 unfortunately mine ended up needing a rear differential, cost me about $400 with 88K on it and having it put on soon.

I changed my rear differential fluid the first time with around 150,000 miles 2013 Escape. I change all other fluids way before they are supposed to be changed. I think input it off so long because a video I watched had a pissed off guy saying he had to cut the exhaust to get it drained. I finally got around to it a year ago. I’m going to do it again this spring. Haven’t had any issues with the rear differential. Many people complained of there’s being very low from the factory. Mine was 3 pints low (I sucked out a pint and was able to add 4 pints). I’m surprised mine didn’t fail. I was black / dark green crap.
