Since your whoopie slings won't go short enough, the other option is to run them through the hooks and then back towards the center (paralleling the ridge pole, and hook them to one another. That way, you can adjust them to any length necessary and don't have to lengthen your ridge pole. On that setup, you only need a foot or two worth of suspension coming off of each end of the hammock and whoopie slings won't usually go that short. This allows for that.
Very nice home project. We have a commercial system that weighs just 3.3 lbs and achieves the same goal of treeless hammock comfort. Maybe we can send you one to review?
Awesome, thanks for this video. I'm going to head to the hardware store tomorrow.

You could use a 12' piece with a lock and cuff hinge to prevent bowing and allow for folding for transport/storage.
Thanks for the suggestion. Moving from wood to a metal would help as well. So far it has not broken.
thanks bro, i like it . it would work great with a single tree set up .

Could you not cut your ridge pole to say 6-8" longer than your hammocks ridge line and shorten your tripods?
a lot less talk and a whole lot more action
