You didn't get your dog in Columbus Ohio around Aug 2012 did you? Our dog Kitty, looked just like your Grace (I think you said). He was one of 7 pups found in a Walmart dumpster. He looks and moves just like yours. I had to show my son this, not just for the stand but for the actual dog. We had to put Kitty down last year so anytime we see a pup like him it hits home for us.
I can see that coming in handy in a lot of places. Provincial Parks etc when car camping, sometimes appropriate spacing between trees is a challenge. Good job man!

Woodswalker 1965 there is a variation of the turtledog you can make from ex army MOD tent poles that can be sourced fairly cheaply on ebay if weight and excess bulk are a concern. Although wood is heavier and more stable in use due to its mass it is also prone to rot if left out long enough and is bulky and heavy to transport. This construction is excellent for garden use and storage in the shed although i would suspect it is not a good traveller due to the weight and pole lengths.
Nice one brother! I made one too. Used cedar logs I sourced from the bush and it works great. Made one for my wife too. Mine are more primitive, just tripods linked by a 2x4 😆 Be well Craig

Actually the top support beam is 13 feet long. I made it long enough to accommodate my 12 foot long hammock tarp. Enjoy your project! You can tailor it to your own specifications. Good luck 👍.
Nice looking stand! Is there a function for the extra dowel attached to the top 2x4? Have you seen any designs with the top pole in 2 pieces for easier transport?
photovore099 i actually tried the two piece top pole but the metal bent as soon as i sat in the hammock. I used the 14 foot 2x4 and it flexed in the middle. The large dowel was kicking around the garage so i used it to stabilize the 2x4. It was a fun project to use in the backyard.

Looks great, Do you have a materials list? How did you determine how high the tripod should be and how long the ridge beam was?
