- Do you remember coming home from school or waking up early on Saturday to watch TV? The programming blocks that aired during these times were something to look forward to- so today we're going to relive the nostalgia by looking at the ones that are long gone!

I realize you are speaking only from your own perspective, but it is worth noting that ForKids TV actually had some of the best programming for girls at the time. There were virtually no other places to watch magical girl anime like Mew Mew Power or Magical DoReiMi and Winx was incredibly popular, being essentially Italian Magical girl. Bratz also really influenced an entire generation of girls now reaching adulthood and rediscovering their love for the show, even if it aged a little poorly from an animation perspective. Having a magical girl block was something I would wake up early for even well beyond the target demographic. So that's an important part of the history of this block that unfortunately got a little overlooked in this video.
OMG! A wild Tama Hero appeared!
>Fight
>Compliment her for her good, insightful comment!
>+10 HP
>Battle won! Tama Hero gained 1,000,000 new subscribers!
Yes, you’re absolutely right about how important it was for there to be shows for girls. Girls were often an undervalued demographic, but it’s good to see that some channels cared enough to cater to girls. I think a lot of channels missed out on the untapped potential of this demographic - that’s 50% they missed out on.
I’m a little old to have watched 4kids TV, but I appreciate this. Always gotta have love for validating girls’ media. Especially magical girls.
Maybe I was that weird boy, but I loved a lot of the girls media, just as much as the boys media. I don't understand why boys or any one for that matter has such issue engaging with media that is not specifically made for their exact demographic. Like I could watch transformers, adventures time, or sonic just as well as watch Winx club, my little pony, Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon or Bratz
Same, though my sister and I enjoyed both shows like Mew Mew Power, Magical Doreimi, Winx, and Bratz, along with SonicX, TMNT, Kirby, One Piece, and DBZ. Still cool of you to mention this though tho, did feel a bit neglected ❤️
@@randallcraft4071 thats not weird, its good to have a widespread variety
When I was a kid, I got this DVD of Kirby: Right Back At Ya! It had a bonus featured called "The Fight for the FoxBox", and when I saw that, little 8-year old me was determined to collect all of those broadcast codes to save the characters in those shows from certain doom. Unfortunately, by the time I went on the internet to use those codes, the FoxBox had already been discontinued.
Boy, was I ever late to the party lol.
I also have Fight for the Fox Box, but I have it as it’s own dvd. It makes sense that it became a special feature after the block was established
(Kirby Right 🔙 At ya) was a good show in my eyes.
I got the separate fight for the fox box dvd in the mail

It was still weird growing up and being the perfect age to witness Fox Kids, transform into the Fox Box AND 4Kids afterwards.
what a goofy time.
Man..... I honestly miss Fox Kids, and Foxbox/4KidsTV those blocks are very nostalgic, and childhood gems I and always watching those shows on Saturday Morning and weekdays before preschool, elementary school, and after school, shows I remember also tuning into like BTAS, X Men, Animanicas, Tiny Toons, Power Rangers, Bobby's World, Carmen Sandiego, Eek the Cat, Taz Mania, Goosebumps, the Magic School Bus, Digimon, Beast Wars, Nascar Racers 03 TMNT, Sonic X and etc.
Megas XLR was a good show I want to watch that again
@@animefreddiemercury Megas was kinda underrated back then imo.
I was never really into fox except for the 90’s xmen and spider man cartoons. Oh and power rangers. The og series up to in space (i think). I think they moved to (what was at the time) fox family after that. I mostly watched kids wb, with animaniacs, tiny tunes, the dc animated universe shows, and megaman nt warrior.
ℹ️ haven't viewed the network (Fox Kids) since ℹ️ was probably 4 or 5 yrs old dog.
Qubo was everything Sitting Ducks, Jane and Dragon, and Pearly the Fairy is awesome
I used love those show. I remember at the time my family didn't have WiFi or Cable TV.
I loved Sitting Ducks though I watched it on Cartoon Network
Had the Qubo channel as a kid, mf Jacob Two Two and Sitting Ducks were awesome. Jane and the Dragon was cool too, but the shitty mocap animation and the feeling that it was like a sequel series to a movie or a book or something, always turned me off to it.
It sucks that the channel is dead now, I never had cable as a kid so it was either PBS or Qubo, I remember watching both as a kid.
I loved those! (and Spliced/Jacob Two Two!) :D
Sitting Ducks is easily one of my favorite cartoons. I actually grew up with it on DVD without realizing it was something that aired on Cartoon Network. I'm glad it got a second chance on Qubo!
Being reminded of PickBoy makes me want him on all star brawl

As someone who spent a decent portion of the 2010’s watching Qubo it definitely broke my heart to hear it ended.
Me too. On Saturdays on my Qubo channel in Arizona, it would be an all day marathon of The Magic School bus and I remember watching it until 7:00pm
Yep a while ago my lil brother tried changing the channel to qubo, only to find it gone :(
@@sweep8311 yes The last time I saw Qubo was hours before the Snow storm hit Texas this year
There I was lost in Inspector Gadget in awe at the animation...safe from the looming doom outside It had some RANDOM in between segments
Yeah it kinda interesting to see qubo. a channel + block that got gone, replacing with a cowboi channel.
It something I watch as a kid. But I quite not interested in watching it. But it could be a lost media themself after the shutdown.
So... Qubo will be lost media themself.

Lol, a lotta of these forgotten "blocks" are seriously nostalgic, and a extremely dope throwback
I feel like this wasn't really a thing when I was a kid. Or maybe it was just more of an American thing. But I do find it really interesting that kids watched a whole experience rather than just cereal and toy commercials like I did.

It’s kind of upsetting to hear that Ready, Set, Learn has some lost media. I have vivid memories watching it on Discovery kids on weekend mornings. Also to add onto the Cartoon Planet info, if I recall correctly the block was created for CN’s 20th anniversary, hence why it didn’t last long.
And as far as blocks nowadays go, the only one that I know of is Nick Rewind on TeenNick. Sadly it suffers from the exact same problem The Splat did, with that being that it only seems to air about 3 90’s NickToons, despite showcasing a much wider variety of shows in its bumpers.
1. Discovery Kids in general (US version at least), and the Hub Network to a lesser extent, doesn't seem to have much footage online, with most results being footage from the Latin American version (which still exists to this day).
2. I recall seeing Cartoon Planet a few times but it went downhill pretty quickly as it began airing modern shows like Almost Naked Animals and Annoying Orange which missed the whole point of the block.
3. Nick Rewind's UA-cam channel is in utter disarray too as it now only posts videos about late 2000's-early 2010's sitcoms. The block has also been on the VRV service as well.
@@connorbeith3232 I don’t recall Cartoon Planet airing anything other than Cartoon Cartoons, however I also assumed they stopped airing it entirely once it stopped airing on Friday Nights so overall I just remember the first few months of it.
@@andrewcb9255 Even in it's early days, they didn't just air Cartoon Cartoons. They had mid-late 2000's stuff too, which didn't have the Cartoon Cartoon label. Though you only remembering the first few months is probably why you don't remember what I was talking about, as that happened later (2013 I think).
I only really remember one show on RSL and that was Peep and the Big Wide World and Paz the penguin.
@@connorbeith3232 I hate to bring it up for like the third time, but I'm still rather perplexed on how little footage of Darcy's Wild Life (a Discovery Kids show) has surfaced, seeing as it had a a bit of a both English and Spanish audience, and seems to be still somewhat remembered to this day. Now, the most of the show that's currently available is a few minutes of the show in Spanish, not even a full episode.
I vaguely recall Ready Set Learn on TLC. That logo definitely looks familiar and I think I watched a bit of it growing up, because I remember Hi-5 at least.
I barely remember Ready Set Learn on TLC back in the 90's way before it was 90 Day Fiance lol and a lotta reality shows and back then it was obviously the learning channel.
It's kind of sad how I bet a lot of the programming on that block is more educational than the TLC programming nowadays
Yeah, I remember Ready Set Learn on TLC, HI-5 was my childhood, loved watching that show.

There's a poem about Raticate (the pokemon) spit by Mark Hamill's Joker from a Kids' WB bumper.
"Eradicate radicate... Pokemon..."
"Fry me that rat as fast as you can~!!!" (plus two more lines)
If anyone has a clip of this, I will literally pay the first deliverer $5 over ca$happ or paypaI.
I remember seeing some of those WB Kids bumpers every once & a while, when I had access to cable/satellite at friends' or my dad's house. The one I remember really well was there was a show whose name escapes me where there was a scary lunch lady. In the bumper, Ash challenged her to a pokemon battle, so she tried to catch him in a PokeBall, much to the horror of the spectators. Lol
I didn't really know what to make of that one, but it definitely stuck with me.
Wasn't that song from a Mrs. Doubtfire movie once?
Man, I’m having two memories of the Kids WB bumpers crawl from the deep abyss of my mind right now.
The first was a holiday special block called the Kids WB sock party and I remember they had a lot of characters singing about it to the tune of the nutcracker. but the only specific part I remember was the Mummy singing “No shoes… no shoes… no shoes! No shoes! No shoes! No shoes” immediately followed by a red crossed out circle being placed over Ash’s (from Pokémon) shoe.
The second bumper was a scene from the Pokémon Orange Island League where Ash was mistakenly hugged by a Mom who thought he was her son. The bumper basically made it a blooper reel where they had Ash had to do multiple takes of getting hugged over and over again.if memory serves the lady was kinda thicc too, but it’s been 20 years since I saw it and I was too young to really understand the appeal of curvature yet so that may be my mind embellishing it now. It ended with Brock trying to volunteer to take Ash’s spot; classic Brock.
11:32 As someone that grew up with 4Kids until it shut down, Vortex was a different name in replacement with Toonzai in my area. So yes, it does exist and I have to say the schedule was a huge pain.
I remember waking up early just to watch Sonic X on Vortex and if I woke up too early, I had to sit through some Fire Fighter show or whatever it was
@@crumplrumpl1222 I know that show. I remember waking up one morning and was confused as to why 4Kids wasn't airing for a while until I looked it up and found out the company behind 4Kids went bankrupted.
I hoenstly never grew up with Vortex but I remember watching it sometimes when I had cable years ago on my CW station it was alright tbh I remember a lotta of Sonic X, Spectator Spider Man Cubix and DBZ Kai reruns on that "block"
@@crumplrumpl1222 firefighter show? That’d be Rescue Heroes, which here in the UK, aired on Sky One and Pop.
ℹ️ seriously don't even remember or even have nostalgia for (Vortex) dog.
I remember watching Qubo! I would tune in specifically to watch Pecola some show called The Mysteries Of Alexander Hedgehog or smth. I watched Pecola because the animation company that did that ALSO did Gregory Horror Show, and I was just enamoured with the idea that two shows with such vastly different content could look and feel so simular.
Weirdly, I always watched Qubo but I don’t remember MOATH. But I do remember Sally Bollywood, which kinda sounds similar.
Lol, I honestly forgot those and didnt know those shows existed I mostly came for Night Owl, and those classic shows like for Rupert, Babar, He Man, that Archie's Weird Mysteries show and etc
Alfred Hedgehog XD
Did someone say “Gregory Horror Show”? lol
I remember watching Pecola on Cartoon Network, same with Sitting Ducks
Phew definitely was a big memory jog seeing all these.
Agreed, man.

Same. We're too old to have nostalgia for most or any of these shows.
Our animation blocks were on USA, FOX, PBS, WB, SCI-FI, MTV, NBC, CBS, & ABC.

Wouldn't mind going even further back than that to get to know about the animation blocks our parents grew up on.

Toonzai most definitely became vortex. I remember this because in my area after the 4kids block went bankrupt (we just kept the 4kids branding, never saw anything toonzai related) the vortex block disappeared as a whole. That was quite saddening to me seeing as how I went onto the vortex website quite a lot when I was younger.
Does anybody remembers HBO Family’s Jam block? I remember watching it and it had shows like A Little Curious, Crashbox, and Happily Ever After. As of 2016, it became HBO Kids but still airs the older shows.
Also, I remember Qubo too, and watching the block from ION back in like 2014, before it turned to Qubo Kids Corner. From August 2020 to it’s shutdown in 2021, I watched the channel a whole lot back when it was on Samsung TV Plus, and also remember seeing it for the first time in 2017 on Verizon Fios. True, although a recent interview with Nickelodeon promo producer Rich Barry revealed the origin of the U-Pick Live block in the 2000s actually came from the Nickelodeon UK version of the show, which included live presenters and studio kids.

Yeah definitely. It's just a lot of people don't realize that the success of the UK version was a big part of why it was brought back as a daily block in the 2000s, in that format.

I remember a Fox Family block on Saturday mornings around 1999-2000 times, showing Monster Rancher, a show I'm starting to really get into again lol
Back in 2000-2001, Fox Family had a block on Sunday mornings called "Made in Japan", which aired Monster Rancher, Digimon, Flint the Time Detective, and the Ruby-Spears Mega Man cartoon series. During commercial breaks, they'd give out various facts about Japan.
I remember this block being really cool. I'd definitely love to see the bumpers and fact segments again!
@@CookiePrince52 me too! Especially the segments where they taught a Japanese word of the day!
Fox Family (now known as FreeForm) also had another cartoon block called "Toon-a-Casserole" which itself was called Tic Tac Toons, originally. I remember seeing shows like Mega Babies and the last few reruns... or new episodes (?) of Bobby's World.
Yes, the same Bobby's World that was based on Howie Mandel's old stand-up sketches.

Holy Crap, I used to watch 4Kids TV back in the late 2000's and early 2010's and I do agree that the shows there were bleak and once 4Kids TV became Vortex, I would still watch it at the same rate. Heck, I remember vividly which shows appeared in Vortex in most of its time slots: Rescue Heroes aired at 7am to 7:30 am, then Sonic X would air at 8am to 9am, followed by Transformers Prime and Justice League Unlimited at 9am to 10am respectively, then followed by Dragon Ball at 10am and finally, Yu-Gi-Oh would air at 11am to noon. It's kinda ironic that while I wasn't much of a religious kid, the only two programming blocks I remember ever liking were from christian public television stations. The one I liked the most specifically only aired tokusatsu shows, which as a kid I thought were the coolest things ever.
Unfortunately the block got cancelled not long after I found out about it, and although for a while the station still aired a few tokusatsu shows individually, those were also replaced by regular family friendly content after a while. I don't recall what was the block's name, and although I do recall the station's name, it's a pretty local thing so I might dox myself if I say it, lol.
Btw, hearing you talk about how CN doesn't have any programming blocks and such made me realize how much CN LA (latin america, not los angeles, btw) is different than the other iterations. While they still don't make programming blocks like the old days, there's some very interesting "skits" (not sure what else to call them) that play between commercials, and if you ignore the cheap-looking animation and the fact that most of them try a bit too hard to be "hip and cool", there's some pretty good jokes alongside it. I believe some of them were uploaded to their official youtube channel, but of course, you'd have to know at least a bit of spanish or brazilian portuguese to get it.
I remember back in the 90's and early 00's a Christian tv channel called "TBN" I used to watch on Saturdays and I think Sundays had a block called "Kids Club" it had shows for what I can remember like Colby's Clubhouse Davey and Goliath, Gospel Bill Faithville, McGee and Me the Flying House, some obscure kids show named the Reppies, Circle Square, Storybook, and others I may not remember lol it wasn't the goated but man it's kinda nostalgic.
That sounds awesome, and familiar... I remember when I used to get haircuts as a kid they would play Kamen Rider (I specifically remember Kamen Rider Kabuto) on the TVs, I wonder if you and I watched the same Tokusatsu block.

completely forgot about discovery kids.... pappyland was my first big introduction to "art is super fun". i watched it any time it was on and would always draw along.

I used to look at Qubo when I was younger, and just like you came back to it around 2018-2019ish because I didn't have cable and it aired TV shows that I remembered fondly (along with PBS Kids of course). U-Pick has some pretty crazy segments
That synopis sounds stupid, brainless & hooped-up xD.
OMG! Seeing Garbagio in this video is the first time I remembered him in years and he was my favorite segment of U-Pick. If I’m remembering right, he was an undefeated luchador who always had matches against inanimate objects. They would have him fight a broom or a sock or something and he would just beat the crap out of it and throw and pin it, being declared victor.
It was really stupid and repetitive until Garbagio had a fight against “cookies and milk”. during the match he slipped on the spilled milk and fell to the ground, causing him to lose the match. This was freaking hilarious to me as a kid.The next few episodes were him having an existential crisis about losing to the cookies and milk, having it haunt his dreams until he resolved to train again. They then had a rematch like a week later and he reclaimed his title. It was by far the most compelling story arc from Upick live, and I can’t believe I forgot about it until just now.

I used to love U-Pick Live. I remember a contest to “vote one of the hosts off the show.” There were segments where Pick Boy was worried that it was going to be him but “Garbagio” ended up being the one to leave. Garbagio was a mute Mexican wrestler. With that said, they may have done something similar again later!
I grew up in between that transition time for cartoon network. I remember being pretty upset when they pulled shows like Dexters Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Camp Lazlo, etc. Needless to say I was really happy when they started doing the Cartoon Planet block, because I didn't get Boomerang for whatever reason so I had no way to watch those shows. When they stopped doing Cartoon Planet I was PISSED. Thankfully now we live in a time where we can get all these shows on demand whenever we want, but it was pretty devastating at the time.

Well, to be more specific, 4Kids TV (formerly the Fox Box from 2002-05) replaced Fox Kids in 2002 and the time lease was used by 4Kids Entertainment and aired on most Fox affiliates, for Fox Affiliates that didn't carry the block, it either aired on either on UPN, The WB (both becoming The CW in 2006), MyNetworkTV or Independent TV stations depending on where you live. 4Kids TV ended in 2008 on Fox, and TheCW4Kids ran from 2008-2012, which replaced Kids' WB. I hope that addressed the confusion.

Currently metv with both early weekday and a 3 hour Saturday morning cartoon block for a lot of the older looney tunes, Tom & Jerry, Popeye, and even pink panther has carried the torch since early 2020. Light tv and retro tv used to have blocks similar to metv currently but they have been gone for 1+ years now. Light tv turned into a different station and retro tv lost the rights when nbc bought DreamWorks. I used to watch heman on retro tv on Saturdays until my stupid chicago affiliate removed it (thanks channel 24). By the time I could pick up the new affiliate it was too late.
I forgot all about Miguzi (at least in name), but I always rushed to turn the TV on when I got home from school to tune in to it. It popped up in my head every now and then, but I could only remember the looks of the characters. This really brought me back
I remember once in a while I would watch Migzui back in my early high school years it was a pretty cool, and decent block.
I actually grew up to witness the transition from after school toonami to Miguzi, was an odd change at first but meant nothing cool action toons from around the world to run home from the bus stop to every weekday at 3 lol
@Musomania27 Have you ever seen Jim Henson’s Animal Jam?
Finally, someone who isn't me mentions Qubo.
Let me just say, for my area and for my era, they had an actual block airing on NBC. It was only on Saturday mornings, along with every other station's children's programming block barring PBS Kids, but it did have a pretty sizable schedule and a rigid one at that. My favorite shows were Jacob Two-Two and Jane and the Dragon, but they hardly had anything on that specific block I didn't care for. Sometime in the middle of the 2000s, though, they replaced it with a Sprout block that didn't even air any of the shows Sprout aired.
I feel really bad for the kids of now that might not have either internet or anything other than the standard antenna. The loss of the block you could take as a sign of decline, but the loss of the channel is truly the end of an era.

I never knew they were a programming block. I had the channel as a kid, though.

Pecola was the show I could only watch at my grandparents’ place. It aired at 6am central and I was only allowed to watch cartoons staring at 7 - but everything was an hour later in eastern time where my grandparents lived. I had forgotten the name of the show! Thanks for sharing it!!
Oh man, I remember watching Ready Set Learn on TLC when I was in the 4th or 5th grade back in the early-mid 2000s. They used to show re-runs of The Magic SchoolBus at around 6 or 7 in the morning and I would be up and ready to watch Paz do his thing before the show.

I have an entire episode of U-Pick Live recorded on VHS because (somehow) me and my brother managed to get on the show. Should probably find a way to get that recorded digitally
Also, fun fact, we met Steve Burns of Blues Clues fame that day as well.
Use a capture card and a rca to hdmi converter you might already have both if you game. All you would need to do is hookup a vcr and use OBS software to record.
I waited a long time before a good method like this came out a 3 hour vhs recording is only 15 gb rather than 20+ gb.
Awesome! Definitely transfer it before the tape deteriorates. Some people record them onto DVD, others send them out to be transferred.

Ready set learn was my favorite omg i remember watching it every morning before school on tlc and discovery kids im so glad u covered it!
I used to love U-Pick live! It was so much fun! I was flabbergasted when Nicktoons Network brought Pick Boy back to promote Kids Pick the President 2020. That brought back so many memories I had forgotten all about.
Also, regarding U-Pick Live, they actually gave it a finale. No, really.
CN didn't give Fridays a goodbye, but Nick gave U-Pick Live one. That's so bizarre.
Nick Jr had the 'Pawsome August' last month to celebrate the new PAW Patrol movie. They showed short clips from the new movie, and ran twice the amount of paw patrol episodes as well. They also changes their Nick Jr logo banner to have paw prints and special paw patrol commercials too!
Didnt expect this to be how i find out Qubo got shut down. I honestly feel quite down its gone, even if i dont still watch it. At my dads we didnt have cable so the Qubo channel was all i got. I loved all those cartoons (except Jane and the Dragon) and i feel like they would still be great cartoons for people to still watch. I loved space as a kid so watching Zula Patrol was always a blast, even if i already seen the episode. I love how The Mysteries of Alfred Hedgehog mixed mystery and science and i felt like i could relate to the skunk character. I loved getting creative with 'Artzooka!' even if i never had the materials to make what the host did. It almost felt molded to my tastes and gave me the things that i feel shaped me today. I personally enjoyed Cartoon Network when i was at my moms and felt like they where better as cartoons for entertainment but Qubo gave me something more than that. It gave me a childhood so unique and influential. Qubo will be missed but not forgotten, for as long as i live if not more
Oh my god, Qubo!!!! I loved Qubo! I'm so sad it's over, but it's incredibly sweet knowing it lasted so long.
The ones I remember the most were 4Kids and Qubo (though I was in my late-tweenage to early-teenage years when I first saw it).
I remember always seeing Qubo during my high school years I sometimes watched the shows on there for nostalgia.
I have very fond memeories of cartoon networks old friday night action block from around 2008 or so. The bumpers consisted of a gold nooob character in a room with golden lines everywhere. Watching stuff like ben 10 and clone wars on that block with my brother are some of my fondest memeories.
3:41 Even though I didn't grow up with Qubo, I remember some of the shows that aired.
I actually do remember watching qubo a lot when I was young. I wished more people talked about 321 Penguins. Most people know this, but it’s made by the same people who made Veggietales.

I'm glad someone else knows about Alfred Hedgehog 😂!
I distinctly remember a heavily advertised moment on U Pick Live when a gimmick, wrestling character they had, named Garbagio (Garbajio?), that had to fight both Cookies and Milk. An actual cookie and glass of milk. I’ve been plagued with this specific memory for years
i appreciate you talking about cartoon network in the early 2010s. i was around 8-10 years old during that era and it was a big part of my childhood
