I Replied to My Influencer Scams: How To Avoid Scams & Find a Good Collab!

- Cosplay influencer scams are on the rise - I received three of these annoying things this week! Some of these scams are just plain annoying while others are legitimately unsafe - in this video I'll be sharing how to evaluate a good brand collaboration, how to recognize the warning signs, as well as five different influencer scams that I've run into. Follow along so that when that good cosplay collaboration lands in your inbox, you'll be ready for it!

I would love to see more content like this! I could really use advice and tips about brand collabs, it's difficult to sift through the email inbox and figure out what's "worth it". I worry I'm being too paranoid or picky and missing opportunities...
In general I try to at least ask questions if the email isn't clear, unless it's an obvious scam or their terms aren't what I'm interested in. I actually almost wrote off one of my best collaborations because I assumed they weren't going to offer me what I expected. I'm really glad I decided to have a conversation with them instead!!
Great video! It's wonderful to see creators with big followings using their knowledge to help protect some of the younger/greener folks out on these platforms.
Good video!! The day before yesterday I got an email for an "Italian watch brand" (I don't mention the name so I don't give them exposure, one of the things they wanted...) and when I asked for more information, realized was totally a scam XD ...
This is so dam true, I had a discount code person contact me to the point of harassments and when I pointed out "this is not how collaborations work" they called me rude....
I love this video so much because even as a non-influencer I get scam dms some times even if I haven't posted in months.
I really would like to hear more about the influencer contracts as I hear a lot of the people I follow talk about it but never discuss it in depth.

Oh my gosh this is such a good video topic honestly. I just did my first collab and luckily it went all well and I knew what to look out for and who to ask questions to even before seeing a video such as this one. But going forward, this info is all super helpful!!

I keep seeing more and more of the discount code scams in the cosplay community. Especially from anime/japanese clothing brands. I think the worst one I received was a company's "amazing offer" was an influencer code and a one time use 20% off coupon for my purchase but I had to purchase at least 3 shirts and a hoodie, totaling over $200 which is insane. Obviously that was no for me.
Sometimes when a partnership offer seems fairly legit I will go through the company's tag on instagram or find people who have tagged that brand in sponsored posts and reach out to individual users to ask how they felt about working with the company. Of course it's a very polite message and I try not to take up much of their time but I find it is a good way to gauge what to expect from the company.

I get so many comments telling me to DM them, or just DMs, for things like ‘help with your UA-cam channel’ or ‘modeling their jewelry.’ They all have like under a hundred followers, and don’t look at all legit. I’ve honestly never replied to them haha. But this video has been so helpful! Thank you! Saves me time in replying to them, bc I have been curious haha

I've gotten the second one a lot. I've actually bought stuff off one (and only the one) of them because they gave me a discount code to purchase first and I actually did like the clothes they had and they identified themselves right off the hop (goth site). But most of them wanting collabs aren't worth it I've noticed. Haven't encountered 1, 3 or 5 yet (yet) but I'm not on Facebook or Twitter (too toxic), and I'm just a smol cosplay insta atm. Having done legit modeling before I thankfully know the importance of checking into things - but I don't watermark my photos and it might be a good idea to start doing this for when I'm able to post more.

The first one is just like the huge Kenza Cosmetics scam! They advertised to so many people, saying "just pay shipping for these fancy brushes", but they were incredibly cheap quality. Influencers like Gabbie Hannah and Tana Mongeau promoted it
and UGH MLMS! Linsense/senegence had A BOOTH at Sydney Supanova, and there was a jewellery one in the artist alley

The dropshipping scam happened to me the other day ($40 for shipping and "insurance") and after I messaged them back about it they never replied. SMH
It's so common and annoying ;_;
I get a weirdly large amount of these scams on my dog pictures. I generally just ignore them but the ones I have responded back to were a whole whopping 10% off coupon + a tiny commission on sales using my code. No thanks.

Hate to burst the bubble but it is not simply because you are an influencer. I get dozens of these on my Photography Instagram and my follower numbers are pathetic. Invariably they have no followers though so not sure how they imagine I will waste time on their ‘offer’

Unfortunately it just really depends on your speakers and there's no way to fix it for everyone. ;_; I checked with five different people before posting and they all said they could barely hear the music!
