I'm...im ashamed. The worst thing I've done for cosplay is literally put acrylic paint in my mouth for photos. I ate acrylic paint. It tasted so so bad. I also used acrylic paint for body paint cause I didn't have that color. Once again it was just for a picture but still. Worst part is I haven't learned. I did it again today no joke.
My friend put a bunch of nasty fruit punch flavoring (that was probably like 8 years old) in one old water bottle from behind her garage couch.... now you'd think that we'd understand how nasty that all is.... but no. Here comes two dumb 10 year olds putting old flavored water all over them, (even some in our mouths) for.... (what were the stupid 10 year olds doing?) Omegle. We wanted some "edible" fake blood, yet it was so bad we couldn't stand it. We spit it out and instead of looking like some really cool blood splatter... it looked exactly how it was, two dumb kids spitting fruit punch... I hate my younger self on a new level sometimes....😅
"I don't do anymore. Thank goodness. Back in the day it was what everyone did." Me: Ace Bandages? "And this was mostly because... we just weren't really... informed" Me: It's Ace Bandages isn't it? "When it came to binding-" Me: Eyuuuup!
I wore an eyepatch when I was Undyne one year, and honestly, I think I was so used to having my eye covered by my hair (from being so edgy at the time) that I wasn't effected by the patch at all lol
I covered my eye thrice (talk about don't learning from mistakes), and the first time was truely a nightmare. I was cosplaying Ciel Phantomhive and it was my first time with coloured lenses. I got a huge headache after a whole day with heavy makeup, lenses and eye patch. Not recomended.
I was Maui at the San Diego Comic-Con 2017. I used temporary Tattoo paper and permanent marker for all his tattoos. The sun tanned me and I had the negative version of all the tattoos on my body until October.
One time for cosplay even though I was in chronic pain, from an internal Cyst on my spine I wore a corset.....I had to get sent to the ER. Don't do it please.
Baby oil works too, and although it is slower than other glue solvents, it's much nicer on your skin, especially around delicate areas. I have to wear a LOT of medical tape
When wearing shoes in general, if they're not in your size, go up, never down. It's better to have a little extra wiggle room for your feet than to have them pinch and blister.
BIND WITH PROPER BINDERS IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD A PROPER BINDER USE A SPORTS BRA THAT OFERS 0 SUPORT DO NOT USE ACE BANDAGES DO NOT USE ANYTHING BUT A PROPER BINDER ACE BANDAGES WILL ACT LIKE A BOA CONSTRICTOR AND GET EVEN TIGHTER TO RESTRICT MOVEMENT AND BREATHING TOU WILL ENDUP WITH RIB DAMAGE YOU WILL END UP WITH FLUID IN YOUR LUNGS TOU WILL DONT BE HAPPY plz be safe
Possibly worse than ace bandages.. a few years ago I went as Grimmjow to Sakuracon and I was insistent that I would not do the "flesh colored tube bra under the vest" thing. So I bound my breasts with - wait for it - sportstape to keep my chest as clear as possible, and stuck the open vest down with fashion tape. Did it work? Yes. Did I escape without small chunks of my breast tissue being torn off from the tape despite using oil to try and remove it? Nope. Don't use sportstape, kids.
I used medical tape to bind my chest for the same purpose and it didn't hurt, I didn't damage my skin either (I took it off in the shower, that helped) BUT it gave me problems breathing and I ended with a colossal headache. Binders are best!
Several years ago I used to cosplay Yuki from Tsuritama and he has a fishing pole which i carried around with me Except it would get caught on things One time at a huge con my fishing line got wrapped around four different people I also had a stuffed fish at the end of the line that I would accidentally smack people with Be careful folks Don't be 14 year old me
Here's a thing from someone who worked in a shoe store for only 3 months but learned a shit ton. If you get insoles, they make the shoe a half size smaller, which is what we were encouraged to do for customers with a half size too big but not having the right size. INSOLES ARE GOOD but please noooo never too small of shoes, take care of your body standers :P And stupid things I've done? I'm still a newbie I'm making all the stupid choices, but especially finally finishing my jacket on the second night of the con. Good job me. /pat pat/
Faepan omg I forgot to mention insoles! I think insoles hate me because every time I've bought a pair of shoes that were too big, I've stuck insoles in them but they still have never fit right?? I think I'm an anomaly that way, so I just have to buy shoes that fit perfectly or it's game over I guess. 😂 GG finishing your jacket the second day of the con, my dude.... I mean all your cosplays look great so honestly I never would have been able to tell. 👌💕💕
I have about 3 different kinds of insoles in one of my pairs of shoes. They are super cute and gold but they ran big so about 1/2 a size too big but the insoles make them perfect.
Really feeling the "never dressing for the season" part. I'm getting better though, this time I'm actually bringing a light, breathable costume to that 30°C weather summer con, and not, you know, wool pants and a sweater. Also the shoes one, I got some flats that fit perfectly on my right foot... But my left foot is slightly bigger so it was in pain the whole day -_-
Emissary of Wind ikr. Cosplayed Celestial Ludenberg for a convention this summer because I'm smart af yknow Got those giant twin drills and two layers of shirt and high socks and a skirt And the girl thing I was obviously a happy camper lmao 😂
when you go to remove the tape, soak the medical tape in oil. What oil is up to you - coconut, mineral, doesn't really matter. It disrupts the adhesive and means that the tape won't take off so much of the upper layers of the skin when you peel it off.
If you need to use medical tape for any part and can't find an alternative use alcohol wipes to take it off. (This is how we get tape off of people in the hospital)
WAT SHE NO MENTION DEM DANG SIX INCH HEELS DOE. seriously though. if you're walking around constantly all day, DON'T WEAR HIGH HEELS! you will thank me ;)
HEELS ARE THE DEVIL AT CONS! I have now made it where I wear only flats for walking around and getting heels ONLY if I plan entering the cosplay contest. I wore gogo boots for Sailor Galaxia for TEN HOURS and ended up bruising my foot on the bottom and had many blisters. Never again.
When I did Undyne I had the eyepatch flipped up when I was walking around, which would also keep the bangs out of my face. And then I flipped it down for photos.
I used lip shiner/highlighter as blush for my Toy Bonnie when I was 12 (2017) and it stained my cheeks for 3 days... and the teacher was panicked due to that.
I've done that before for an Uraraka cosplay, though it didn't stain my face. Next time maybe just do a spot check well before the con. (Btw I used Wet N' Wild Liquid Catsuit lipstick.)
When I was 17 I cosplayed Cecil from Welcome to Night Vale, and at the time it was super popular to draw him with a big purple eye on his forehead. Well, rather than draw one on or something, I made an acrylic follow-me eye, fursuit-style, and adhered it to my face, then created a lid out of liquid latex, and added lashes. Didn't pull it off very well because it was mt first time using latex, but it was a really cool idea that I'd like to revisit now that I know what I'm doing The stupid part was using this adhesive gel my mom had. I don't even remember what it was supposed to be for. But I just glued it right to my head without doing a patch test. Throughout the day it started to tingle and burn, but i ignored it, like a dumbass, and when I pried it off my face after 10 hours, there was a perfectly round chemical burn in the middle of my forehead. And it stayed like that for at least a week before it started to fade. Next time I'll use eyelash glue.
use spirit gum! a lot of people who are in the sfx makeup community that use liquid latex usually put a layer of spirit gum underneath it. make sure to moisturize your face well before application.
One time I had made a last minute Cosplay that started to fall apart as I was wearing it, so of course I did the smart thing and HOT GLUED IT TO MY BODY I still have no idea why I decided that was somehow the best solution
GummyBeast what the fuck?? that's torture oh my god why How did you do that without passing out I spilled a few drops on my hand months and months ago and I still have a huge scar from it
I did the same thing once, but with super glue. My stockings wouldn't stay up on my thighs so I just super-glued them to my skin. I also at some point I thought it was a good idea to paint on the stockings, with acrylic paint, while I was wearing them. wtf
The season appropriate clothing point is so true. I remember cosplaying Australia from Hetalia in winter back when I still was a fetus cosplayer ...so much cold regret xD And I'm honestly so glad that there are binders out there now like binding with bandages was the worst
Fun fact: Kagamine Len without the sailor collar pinned down + the wind on the last day of Ottawa Comic-Con (2019) = almost losing the sailor collar, and getting smacked in the back of the head by it. FUUUUUUN WOOO
As someone who wants to cosplay Undyne, I'm so glad for the eyepatch tip. I probably would have made that mistake, and my coordination is bad enough, without the eyepatch.
Once I cosplayed as bill cipher but the human version and I wear glasses so whenever I was acting like him I had to take my glasses off and put the eyepatch back on
At my first con I forgot to bring food and I didn't want to use money for food so I guess I essentially starved myself for a day Worth it tho, I got a You Watanabe figure
Shuichi i I used to be SO BAD at remembering to eat during cons. “Huh why do I feel so weak and why is my head about to split open...weird” maybe cuz you haven’t any food or water in 12 hours!! I always carry snacks now. And I’m an adult with money so if I gotta eat darn it I will eat!
Wearing the wrong shoes for cosplay is the worst. Last year for Toronto Fan Expo I decided to cosplay as harley quinn (movie version because I honestly do enjoy the design) and the boots I decided to wear were crazy. When I tried them on for 5 minutes in my house I was like, "yeah these are comfy I will be fine" but then the day of the con came and the first couple of hours were fine but by the end of the day I was in so much pain I had to sit on the floor for an hour and when it was time to get up I literally cried and then was sore for like 3 days and could hardly walk
Same thing happened to be with my attack on titan cosplay.. I have like these really tight boots I used for horseriding, but I still use them for my cosplay because I'm just reeeaaaally lazy and broke haha oops
My Harley Quinn boots are a half size too big AND five inch heels. They’re comfortable for about an hour or so and then your feet die. Well they were like that when I bought them but I bought them right before my feet grew and they grew enough to fit the shoes so they’re good now.
WEIRD I've tasted hair spray before! It's bitter and somewhat floral in a way. Not only that, but it was hard to get out of my mouth. It kind of burned my tongue.
So a few days ago I went up to my school field to take photos in a Female Yoonbum cosplay, but one of my teachers saw me. She asked me who I was and long story short I had to explain to her what Killing Stalking was... so yeah, never take photos at your school either.
It's not too terribly hard to make one so long as you're very Very VERY V E R Y careful with measurements so you don't damage your chest. transitioningdownunder.com/post/60059037344/tutorial-chest-binder This is the tutorial I used to make my binder when I was Kankri. It's really simple. I actually sewed mine completely by hand during my off periods.
ellernock makes a good point about sports bras and homemade binders, what's your bra size? Because if you're bigger than a b, you're definitely going to want to invest in an actual binder. Maybe you could give one of your friends the money and have them buy it for you?
GothGalaxy202 Get one from GC2B. Affordable, and the best on the current market. gc2b is an online only store so you'll need to have a credit card, PayPal, or a prepaid card but it's worth it.
i did a gender swaped Sherlock in flordia in summer and i was dieing because sherlock does not where summer chothing and funny thing was the air conditioning was broken
OMG NOOO BBY! I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND I WISH I'D KNOWN YOU TO TELL YOU IT WASN'T A GOOD IDEA! YOU'RE OKAY, RIGHT? YES? PLEASE? IM SO SORRY I APOLOGIZE FOR OUR HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY!!! ;-;
Bff Story Recently its stayed in like, the nineties for the summer but the humiture(sp?) aka how hot it is including humidity has been like, 105°F. I'm a naturally cold person. I usually sleep with my comforter. I have now only been sleeping with a sheet and sometimes I have to turn on my ceiling fan. ;-; why, Florida, why?!
Hejwkdmndkakls Watchoutjwjskskwlkandn I'm doing my first cosplay ever at my first con ever in August. I'm being Coraline. I do not have blue hair so I will have to wear a wig. Not to mention the yellow raIN COAT
for my first ever comic con i wore high heels for my characters. i was taller than my friends and um it was my first time wearing heels. My mother said they were comfortable heels and boy they were not. i was walking funny but when people asked for photos i had to get down on my knees for the photo. didnt help i was wear a skirt but tights too but still and i did my make up first time in the morning.... so dont wear heels (if its your first time), dont try your make up on the day! and DO NOT WEAR A SKIRT AND THIN TIGHTS WHEN YOU LIVE IN SCOTLAND. it was cold ;-; dont be 13 year old me
I cosplayed Kraehe from Princess Tutu and I wore actual pointshoes (I used to be a ballerina) and I would go En Pointe for every photo. I did this for MULTIPLE cons and by the time I retired her I had PERMINANT scars on my ankles and heels AND one of my toe nails got so damaged it actually fell off. definitely the stupidest thing I have done for cosplay xD
OH ALSO speaking of medical body tape, for the same costume, it did not have a back... at all, it was accurate that way so I literally taped it to my body with medical tape... under my arms... in really sensitive areas. it was NOT fun. not only was I not wearing a bra and I was holding the only thing on my chest WITH ONLY TAPE, but taking it off was AWFUL, not only because medical tape is painful to take off, I am also allergic to adhesive! I am not smart
KittyKatmac Cosplay Oh god I've seen what happens to people who go en pointe and dance as a job... I can only imagine what that must have felt like... Like hell.
KittyKatmac Cosplay Princess tutu is great by the way. I wore pointe shoes for a cosplay one time- in a very new pair. I killef my feet. If I ever finish my Princess Krahe cosplay people are going to have to live with ballet slippers xD
Omg the shoe thing I still do sometimes. I'm tiny, 4'9" and wear kids size 3 in shoes. Finding accurate shoes my size is usually impossible, so I've stuffed many a pair of shoes and hurt my toes so badly that I couldn't feel them until I took them off and all the feeling rushed back into my feet and I felt ALL OF THE PAIN Good times~
There are materials that you could make an eyepatch from that let you see out, but others can't see in. i wish I remembered some examples, but if you do Undyne again, this could solve the depth perception issue.
And as for the tape... this might not work since the light is obviously electronic, so unless it's waterproof... *shrug* ...but wetting down the tape with water (or if you want to numb your skin a bit, rubbing alcohol) will help to act as a solvent on the adhesives and remove it more easily.
Also I had a buddy who cosplayed the main guy from watchdogs 1. He cosplayed as a character who is dressed to survive the late fall in Chicago. And he thought it was a good idea to start that at PHOENIX COMIC CON! PCC is in June when it's 100f out. I saw him asleep in the hotel loby half way through the day and I didn't think much if it i went on with my day didn't want to wake him up. NO HE HAD HEAT STROKE! His body was like nah fam I ain't having this let's start shutting things down cause it's too hot in here. Like he almost died. He's fine now but PCC isn't a place to fuck around at.
When you mentioned cosplaying Rin I was reminded of the time back in November of 2012(or 2013. My memory is garbage) I cosplayed Len for a meetup in Edinburgh. Evening hit, Scotland in winter is super cold...didn't faze me one bit. In fact I was giving off a crazy amount of body heat so I got a lot of hugs from the others who were trying to keep warm. And thus I was nicknamed "The Human Radiator".
i used to use ace bandages all the time. i had actually sewn several of the widest i could find together because i wanted to look super thin as well as have a flat chest. it was so bad....
For your medical tape you can coat the area with a mild cooking oil. A few drops of olive, canola, vegetable, coconut, or sunflower oil can help remove adhesive from the skin.
Tip: the rules for binding also apply to corsets. Dont wear them for more than eight hours, if they hurt take them off, dont get a size too small, practice wearing them, and NEVER sleep in them
Holy mother of poo, I was the same way with the eyepatch. I was cosplaying as OLIVER from VOCALOID3 for MegaCon and it killed my eye. I think I destroyed my depth perception! XD
Omg, I can relate soooo much with the shoe thing! I wore too small shoes because "they were perfect", spoiler alert : NO THEY WERE NOT. XD Any shoes that are not your size are NOT the perfect one xD
I'm so glad you brought up the vision impairment! I'm a beginner preparing to cosplay Julian Devorak, who typically wears an eyepatch or a mask, and I didn't even think of practicing with it!
Dude! I feel the 'Season appropriate clothes' on a spiritual level! I wore my full Loki cosplay to a con in the middle of summer! Three layers of wool and leather! It killed!!! 😩 (but I looked hella good anyway!)
Hair spray horror stories(setting spray applies too), body paint mishaps. costume layers (cant gets away from thst in the tropics x.x) Back in the day binders would of been a god send. these things build experince for us over the years(then we crindge wen wenlook back at it ) watching this was just a blast!
I'm a trans male(questioning-ish?? Not much tho, I'm pretty sure) dysphoria will bother you a lot normally wearing girls clothing, but for most people cosplay is feeling like that character, ask yourself if you were a cis male, would you go to this con wearing that anyways, if no, dont do it, your dysphoria will hate you, if yes, then go for it!
This reminds me of the time i did gore makeup over my good eye (I could not see at all out of it) but i was dumb because i'm pretty much blind in my other eye. (I can see but not well enough to read anything or decipher complex shapes) so I went to taste of animethon and just walked into everything and I was kicked out of a booth too. (They had blankets in plastic bags and i couldn't tell what they were so i just *stroking bag repetitively* "What are you strange object?"
Everything here I have done except for the Ace Bandages (because I'm 13 and don't really need to bind yet) and the eyepatch. I already have 1 eye that I can hardly see out of, so my depth perception is already screwed up. What does suck is when I cosplay Bill Cipher and have to wear my eyepatch over my good eye, so I can hardly see at all.
DigitalMindTheatre Actually, Bill's design can be altered by you however you want, because he doesn't have a canon human form! So you can wear the eye patch on whichever eye you want!
I'm planning on cosplaying bill, and since he's literally a Dorito with one eye, you can do whatever you want with it. I'm putting the patch on my left which happens to be my bad eye 😂
Regarding the shoes (even if this video is going to be 3 years old soon :'D): If you find shoes that are /perfect/ for your cosplay, but they don't exist in your size and you still really want them, go for the next size up that is available (using EU measurements, if you have a size 36, go for a size 37). You can use insoles to make up for the size. My SnK boots are a bit too big for me (since I have really tiny feet and finding anything in my size is a nightmare), I used insoles. Now I always have warm feet in my boots and I fit me properly or depending on the insoles - my boots don't get smelly from walking around in them all day :')
I cosplayed as Undyne for my friend so I body painted my self blue but it did come of for like 4 days so I cosplayed Undyne for 3 extra days. I didn't get in trouble at school at least
I once was cosplaying an elf but with an outfit inspired by the Dunedain, (LotR). My boots were ones that I used to wear every day. On the day of the con, after several hours of walking around, the protective rubber grip part of my heel came off, and the pavement had tons of gravel. So the gravel was poking holes in the exposed heel of my boot and I was trying to not limp and walk on my toes at the same time. It didn't hurt, but every step damaged my boot even more. I still intend to get the boots repaired, because they are still in great shape and the leather is still gorgeous. Lesson learned; make sure your shoes are in good shape and won't die while you are walking!
omg I was literary thinking each one as you listed them... so many memories, so many bad choices 😣😂😂 I think a corset that breaks at the con with the boning sticking into me was the worst and most scaring. Followed by open chest binding with medical tape, also scaring!
I cosplayed Undyne for a con last weekend, and I wore the eyepatch on my forehead while walking around and just pulled it down for photos. Considering my other eye had a colored contact and therefore was slightly blurry, as well as my general clumsiness, I didn’t want to risk it.
GASPS dont even talk to me about bad shoes at a convention...... i remember buying some shoes for my madoka kaname costume back in 2014 and they were clearly too big. for some reason i thought it would be all cool but i ended up being the most uncomfortable ive ever been in my life... the worst part is i dont even learn, i still wear shoes that dont fit me on a regular basis!
My first weekend cosplaying I was wearing a TARDIS dress and wanted to do all this pretty make up and stuff for it. I bought small decorative gears and used eyelash glue to glue them onto my face and collar bone. I ended up getting awful burns and ripped some of my skin off when I took the gears off. Wasn't too pleasant.
4 stupid Homestuck cosplays I've done 1. Dave strider, tshirt in -1c weather 2. Rose lalonde in sweater in thE MIDDLE OF AUGUST 3. John Egbert, Longsleeve and shorts in late october, binding with ace badages 4 Cronus ampora, didnt seal my makeup, white shirt ruined.
Nexis siempreaqui i used rings of cardboard and hot glue. Ive never seen anyone make horns like i do and its kinda hard to explain. to keep them on i just glue them to a headband
knight of fucking time ooh that makes sense I made my Aradia/Gamzee ones with plastic bags and wool around the headband, and duct tape when they didnt stop falling during the con :p
The worst part about cosplaying as Ciel was the fact of the eye patch. Like, whenever I was walking with friends, and they were walking on the side I had the eye patch on, I would constantly walk into them. Not only that, when with my family, they didn’t even care that I didn’t know what direction they were turning. So one of two things would happen, One I would run into them Or two They would turn and leave me thinking that we were still walking straight... Let us just say that I got lost at the convention a lot ._. On the day I was with my sister, she actually stood behind me, guiding me through the crowds. Just imagine this, a bright, red-headed girl is gripping onto the shoulders of Ciel, making sure they don’t run into a wall. (Which let me say, did happen) I also tripped up escalators So I can relate to you XD
My first con, I cosplayed as Fem!Purple Guy. Black jeans, long sleeve purple dress shirt, a VEST. I had 0 water and I wore CONVERSE. We were there for 7 hours. This year I'm doing Katsuki Yuri at the same con and we are in summer and- I need tips on wigs and foundation pleAAAAASE
Something to help with the medical tape skin irritation is put down few layers of liquid latex (and let it dry) as a base, then the tape will be sticking to the latex instead of your skin and it can all easily peal off at the end of the day.
I know the exact feeling about seasonal cosplays and good choices. I love to cosplay Mei bc she has the exact same glasses as I do so I don't need to put in contacts (fuckin sCORE) but at the same time her costume is so freakin hot in her parka and leggings and boots omg.
Only a few months ago, I went to an anime con in NYC, and my wig kept sliding off because the ponytails made it heavy. I didn't know about wig clips at the time, but I did use bobby pins in the wig to try and keep it in place. This _sorta_ worked, but the wig still pulled back, just very slowly, and the bobby pins clung to my wig cap and my *hair.* I noticed how my hairline was THROBBING and it was swelling, but like an idiot I chose to ignore it for the entire 7 hours I was at the con. I then come home, and a huge chunk of my hair around the hairline fell out, and it was really noticeable! The hair is growing back, but it's grown back slow and thinly because of the damage. And I only found out about the wig clips two months later 🤦♀Don't be like me, guys
For Evillecon 2016, I did my first official cosplay (which obviously means my baby cosplay brain did not have much knowledge of cosplay things at the time.) I went as Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls, and it was awesome! It was a really great time. I met many nice people, and everyone treated me with kindness! However, I had one thing that was bugging me all day: A freaking eyepatch. In many human character designs that I had seen of Bill, he almost had a disembodied eyepatch? Like, it was just floating there with no straps to keep it attached to his head. Which I liked, and I wanted to replicate that. However, to do that, I decided to take a piece of triangular-shaped foam and TAPE IT TO MY EYE. I took some really crappy scotch tape, slapped a piece of tape on there, and attached it... to my eyeball. The whole day, my eye was super watery and so the tape would come loose, forcing me to apply more. I didn't take that into consideration and forced my dad to run into Walgreens half way into the day to buy me a roll of tape (which I carried around in my pocket all day.) So, long story short, my eye was SUPER irritated the entire day, and I should have just sewn myself a normal eyepatch looking back on it. It also made it hard to see!
Hahahahahaha, you really this those are the most stupid things? At least you didn't HOTGLUE a wig to your head right after 'casually' cutting off all of my hair... And then walking around in a giant coat in the middle of really hot summer
I have an idiot moment. A few for the same cosplay, actually. So for Halloween (2019), I went as Himiko Toga, from My Hero Academia. First mistake: I didn't layer enough, so my hands and thighs were FREEZING by the time we got back to my friends house. I should have worn tights instead of knee socks but eh, would do it again. Second thing was not practicing wearing my Yellow contacts enough. I had worn them for an extended period only once before, and their like, block colored, so their completely opaque and so they slightly cut off my peripheral vision. I definitely tripped a lot, which could have ended really bad for my knees and my modesty as I was wearing a skirt. Third dumb thing. I bought my costume as a set, and DIDN'T LOOK AT THE SIZE CHARTS (I'm stupid), so when i finally got my outfit (a few days before Halloween) I went to try on the shirt and freaked out because i thought didn't fit. I didn't know there was a zipper on the side, and even then it is almost too small.
Omg I remember when everyone used bandages to bind their chests - and although I didn't cosplay male characters then I heard SO many horror stories from my friends with bad binding nOOOOOOOOOOOO
I love this
Meririn Cos WHERE IS THE LIE 😂👌
Meririn Cos
so true.
AnyaPanda - That reminds me of a macdoesit quote XD
Yep.
Friends: OMG! You must be soooo organized!
Me: I'm too lazy to bring food off my desk...
I lock the door to my crafting room to prevent my toddler from hurting himself or steal my PVC pipes. He is going to Jedi some day...
(what were the stupid 10 year olds doing?)
Omegle.
We wanted some "edible" fake blood, yet it was so bad we couldn't stand it. We spit it out and instead of looking like some really cool blood splatter... it looked exactly how it was, two dumb kids spitting fruit punch...
I hate my younger self on a new level sometimes....😅
oh same XD
You poor idiot. (I'm an idiot too don't worry)
Lol
mixing acrylic paint and lotion makes some good face paint (I didnt use this for cosplay but for fun maybe it works idk, i dont cosplay)
"I don't do anymore. Thank goodness. Back in the day it was what everyone did."
Me: Ace Bandages?
"And this was mostly because... we just weren't really... informed"
Me: It's Ace Bandages isn't it?
"When it came to binding-"
Me: Eyuuuup!
Nooo as a trans guy just get a binder lol it’s so much safer
*SUPER GLUES HORNS ONTO MY HEADDD* if you don't get this we can't be friends
ALASTAIIIIIR 😉👌
AnyaPanda yeesssßsssssssss we can be best friends now
eyyyyy (I swear though, it's painful to get them off ;^;)
HOMESTUCK
HOMESTUCK!!!!
I feel like everything I do in cosplay is a mistake
I know that feeling
It gets better with practice! My costumes from the first year and a half or so all look pretty bad.
I feel like everything I do in my life is a mistake so don't feel so bad about yourself XD
You'll improve.
Yeah I cant cosplay.. but I do it and I look ugly
At certain angles I too look like less garbage
Thank you indian man, very cool!
Lucky, I look bad regardless
@@oreo_cos cap
On the vision one, I can relate
I cosplayed as Mettaton and you probably know that the hair covered one eye
I walked into at least three people
I wore an eyepatch when I was Undyne one year, and honestly, I think I was so used to having my eye covered by my hair (from being so edgy at the time) that I wasn't effected by the patch at all lol
The only solution- become a fursuiter and bump into everyone but you have an excuse because you're a neon blue dog that squeaks

I don't usually get the shoes for a cosplay since they are very expensive but dang...
That just sounds scary.
for anyone who uses medical grade tape: the glue dissolves in nail polish remover
Rinse well and moisturize afterwards!
eveline jennings thank you for the tip, if I ever use medical tape I’ll be sure to remember this!
Baby oil works too, and although it is slower than other glue solvents, it's much nicer on your skin, especially around delicate areas.
I have to wear a LOT of medical tape
*cosplayer's worst enemy (at least mine):*
*...acetone.*
Thank you for the tip.
When wearing shoes in general, if they're not in your size, go up, never down. It's better to have a little extra wiggle room for your feet than to have them pinch and blister.
BIND WITH PROPER BINDERS IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD A PROPER BINDER USE A SPORTS BRA THAT OFERS 0 SUPORT

Ironic
Possibly worse than ace bandages.. a few years ago I went as Grimmjow to Sakuracon and I was insistent that I would not do the "flesh colored tube bra under the vest" thing. So I bound my breasts with - wait for it - sportstape to keep my chest as clear as possible, and stuck the open vest down with fashion tape. Did it work? Yes. Did I escape without small chunks of my breast tissue being torn off from the tape despite using oil to try and remove it? Nope. Don't use sportstape, kids.
Jennifer Hilmoe Ohmygosh that sounds like such an awful time ahhhhh D':
That sound absolutely horrifying

Jennifer Hilmoe oh no. I wore those when I twisted my ankle and sometimes it accidentally stuck to my skin and it would tear my skin same did to you 😭
I used medical tape to bind my chest for the same purpose and it didn't hurt, I didn't damage my skin either (I took it off in the shower, that helped) BUT it gave me problems breathing and I ended with a colossal headache. Binders are best!

Here's a thing from someone who worked in a shoe store for only 3 months but learned a shit ton. If you get insoles, they make the shoe a half size smaller, which is what we were encouraged to do for customers with a half size too big but not having the right size. INSOLES ARE GOOD but please noooo never too small of shoes, take care of your body standers :P
And stupid things I've done?
"This was a terrible choice, I'm gonna do it again."
Really feeling the "never dressing for the season" part. I'm getting better though, this time I'm actually bringing a light, breathable costume to that 30°C weather summer con, and not, you know, wool pants and a sweater.
Also the shoes one, I got some flats that fit perfectly on my right foot... But my left foot is slightly bigger so it was in pain the whole day -_-

when you go to remove the tape, soak the medical tape in oil. What oil is up to you - coconut, mineral, doesn't really matter. It disrupts the adhesive and means that the tape won't take off so much of the upper layers of the skin when you peel it off.
I feel like I should mention, essential oils can give you rashes, even if you aren't allergic.
If you need to use medical tape for any part and can't find an alternative use alcohol wipes to take it off. (This is how we get tape off of people in the hospital)
WAT SHE NO MENTION DEM DANG SIX INCH HEELS DOE. seriously though. if you're walking around constantly all day, DON'T WEAR HIGH HEELS! you will thank me ;)
but i mean... go ahead wear heels... but only if there comfortable. seriously I'M NOT KIDDING. XD
I end up wasting heels anyway XD. I try to stay accurate even if it causes me pain.
At least not stilettos! Wedges and chunky heels are less bad
I wore stilettos my first time.
*_WORST MISTAKE I'VE EVER MADE._*
You're not alone. I've done ALL of those while cosplaying.

Didn't pull it off very well because it was mt first time using latex, but it was a really cool idea that I'd like to revisit now that I know what I'm doing
The stupid part was using this adhesive gel my mom had.
Use spirit gum and spirit gum remover!! It is super cheap and available at literally any halloween store/halloween section of a store

Spaceshibes Awww, I hope you healed well.
Same thing happened to be with my attack on titan cosplay.. I have like these really tight boots I used for horseriding, but I still use them for my cosplay because I'm just reeeaaaally lazy and broke haha oops
Spaceshibes I did that at my first con a few years back and I had blisters for weeks 😂
Spaceshibes I went to fan expo toronto 2017!
My Harley Quinn boots are a half size too big AND five inch heels. They’re comfortable for about an hour or so and then your feet die.
Well they were like that when I bought them but I bought them right before my feet grew and they grew enough to fit the shoes so they’re good now.
Super glueing horns to my head instead of using a headband....
But the most important question is: What did it spesifically taste like?
WEIRD Regrets.

AnyaPanda oooohh! I've heard that's super bitter and spicy.

This is the tutorial I used to make my binder when I was Kankri.

For your medical tape you can coat the area with a mild cooking oil. A few drops of olive, canola, vegetable, coconut, or sunflower oil can help remove adhesive from the skin.

I'm getting aftershocks of anxiety i would have been so upset had you told me abt the medical tape back then ANYA WHY

Holy mother of poo, I was the same way with the eyepatch. I was cosplaying as OLIVER from VOCALOID3 for MegaCon and it killed my eye. I think I destroyed my depth perception! XD

Z26production WELL SAID 👌
I'm so glad you brought up the vision impairment! I'm a beginner preparing to cosplay Julian Devorak, who typically wears an eyepatch or a mask, and I didn't even think of practicing with it!
Worst thing I've done: (accidentally) using surgical tape for face taping. Also for open chest binding. Regret so much regret.
Question:
I am trans questioning... Would going to a con as a female character be a good idea?
(Btw I am a HUGE fan of Tracer from overwatch 😄)
I'm a trans male(questioning-ish?? Not much tho, I'm pretty sure) dysphoria will bother you a lot normally wearing girls clothing, but for most people cosplay is feeling like that character, ask yourself if you were a cis male, would you go to this con wearing that anyways, if no, dont do it, your dysphoria will hate you, if yes, then go for it!
Yeah it’d be fine! I dress up like a male character all the time
haha, one of the things was that you got hairspray in your mouth? Pretty sure that happens to most girls daily, including me hahaa~
bunny see I don’t use hairspray on a daily basis. If my hair is short I need to cause of fly aways, but Cosplay might be my ONLY other time.

I wanna cry i was tryna put my 30$ contact lenses in AND THE ONE TORE 😭😭😭😭
Everything here I have done except for the Ace Bandages (because I'm 13 and don't really need to bind yet) and the eyepatch. I already have 1 eye that I can hardly see out of, so my depth perception is already screwed up. What does suck is when I cosplay Bill Cipher and have to wear my eyepatch over my good eye, so I can hardly see at all.
DigitalMindTheatre Actually, Bill's design can be altered by you however you want, because he doesn't have a canon human form! So you can wear the eye patch on whichever eye you want!
Oml that reminded me how I used to have to wear an eyepatch for medical reasons!! My eyes still have different prescriptions though
I'm planning on cosplaying bill, and since he's literally a Dorito with one eye, you can do whatever you want with it. I'm putting the patch on my left which happens to be my bad eye 😂
Regarding the shoes (even if this video is going to be 3 years old soon :'D):
If you find shoes that are /perfect/ for your cosplay, but they don't exist in your size and you still really want them, go for the next size up that is available (using EU measurements, if you have a size 36, go for a size 37).
How did you get away with being blue in school?

I once was cosplaying an elf but with an outfit inspired by the Dunedain, (LotR). My boots were ones that I used to wear every day. On the day of the con, after several hours of walking around, the protective rubber grip part of my heel came off, and the pavement had tons of gravel. So the gravel was poking holes in the exposed heel of my boot and I was trying to not limp and walk on my toes at the same time. It didn't hurt, but every step damaged my boot even more. I still intend to get the boots repaired, because they are still in great shape and the leather is still gorgeous. Lesson learned; make sure your shoes are in good shape and won't die while you are walking!
omg I was literary thinking each one as you listed them... so many memories, so many bad choices 😣😂😂
I think a corset that breaks at the con with the boning sticking into me was the worst and most scaring. Followed by open chest binding with medical tape, also scaring!

I used duct tape directly on my skin to attach the Bucky arm for my Winter Soldier cosplay....
I once used a dry erase marker for a tattoo and sealed it with Elmer's glue..
4 stupid Homestuck cosplays I've done
1. Dave strider, tshirt in -1c weather
2. Rose lalonde in sweater in thE MIDDLE OF AUGUST
3. John Egbert, Longsleeve and shorts in late october, binding with ace badages
4 Cronus ampora, didnt seal my makeup, white shirt ruined.
knight of fucking time how did you do the horns/get them to not fall off?
Nexis siempreaqui i used rings of cardboard and hot glue. Ive never seen anyone make horns like i do and its kinda hard to explain. to keep them on i just glue them to a headband
knight of fucking time ooh that makes sense
I made my Aradia/Gamzee ones with plastic bags and wool around the headband, and duct tape when they didnt stop falling during the con :p
Nexis siempreaqui oh no! ive made tavros horns with cardboard and theyre very durable. I smashed them on many door frames and they didnt break
knight of fucking time everything I make with cardboard breaks ;_;
Both Equius' bow and my clubs broke *onstage*
I really need to get better materials
The worst part about cosplaying as Ciel was the fact of the eye patch. Like, whenever I was walking with friends, and they were walking on the side I had the eye patch on, I would constantly walk into them.
Not only that, when with my family, they didn’t even care that I didn’t know what direction they were turning. So one of two things would happen,
One
I would run into them
Or two
They would turn and leave me thinking that we were still walking straight...
Let us just say that I got lost at the convention a lot ._.
On the day I was with my sister, she actually stood behind me, guiding me through the crowds.
Just imagine this, a bright, red-headed girl is gripping onto the shoulders of Ciel, making sure they don’t run into a wall. (Which let me say, did happen)
I also tripped up escalators
So I can relate to you XD
My first con, I cosplayed as Fem!Purple Guy. Black jeans, long sleeve purple dress shirt, a VEST. I had 0 water and I wore CONVERSE. We were there for 7 hours.
This year I'm doing Katsuki Yuri at the same con and we are in summer and-
I need tips on wigs and foundation pleAAAAASE
Having done gymnastics competitions sad a small child I know the hair spray one all to much
Oohhh yeah. I did dance competitions for years and I know the feeling all to well 😑
For Evillecon 2016, I did my first official cosplay (which obviously means my baby cosplay brain did not have much knowledge of cosplay things at the time.) I went as Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls, and it was awesome!
SakurakoO.O YOU HOT GLUED A WIG TO YOURSELF?
Whattttt. Were. You. Thinking?!?
ItsLeila no regrets... No regrets at all... C':
Arutemisu i don't know
liel perez yea...
ALSO Oh man I remember meeting you for the first time at AE as Maka! I remember how hot you were ;A;
Failure-At-Failing Oh my gosh that is when we met, that was so long ago now ahhhh! Never forget The Great Heatwave of '10. 🙏
Omg I remember when everyone used bandages to bind their chests - and although I didn't cosplay male characters then I heard SO many horror stories from my friends with bad binding nOOOOOOOOOOOO
