My New Lexus LC500 Is Completely Stripped in 25 Minutes!

- Episode 301 is an update on the no-longer-a-secret small tire project, my 2018 Lexus LC500. Now that it's at RK Racecraft in Cartersville, Georgia, it's time to get to work. The car was blown completely apart until it was nothing but a shell, some tubing, and an engine. During the process of taking the car apart, all of the carbon fiber inner paneling was removed and a lot of the interior rollcage tubing was removed in preparation for a new design. Stay tuned for more on this awesome car. In the meantime, following along for real-time updates on my social media channels:

Happy Father’s Day to Mike and all the other father followers.
And right back at ya!
Happy Father's Day
Cheers and Happy fathers Day, Father's
With the way that body is mounted and all the other issues it almost seems like it would be better/faster and probably less expensive to just have them redo the whole chassis. I would worry about what else is wrong that you can’t see. Bad welds etc. That’s said can’t wait to see more!
When I first saw this car on the interwebs I knew this had "SEMA quality" all over it
compared to this absolute basket of festering buttholes, most mid quality SEMA builds are leaps and bounds better built and thought out.
Can you imagine knowing who built this car initially and the world seeing how bad it was done? Wow, makes you appreciate the time to do things correctly the first time.
Who's was it initially?
Imagine being the one who built it watching this
The car was also built for a different purpose originally. So it’s comparing apples to oranges.
The owner & guy who did all of the shotty work had a falling out over it. It was on fb.
@invisiongarage was it you?
Sounds like every other project vehicle 😂
I call it the hot rod tango. 3 steps forward, 2 steps back.
I know right…. It’s always perfect (and kinda cheaper) until you re-do absolutely everything then you are in it 1.5x the cost of doing it with a stock car in the first place. I LOVE RACECARS!! 😂🤣😂
That's a lot of SEMA build sketchiness in the initial construction.
This is typical of a lot of SEMA builds. They don’t function as advertised.Always have extra eyes and expertise when purchasing project vehicles.
That is a prime example of wasting a whole lot of money letting someone who has no idea how to build a safe racecar. I can't imagine how much money the previous owner must have spent on junk.
The PO had the FBMP listing for 85k as a rolling chassis but I HIGHLY doubt Mike paid anything near that.
@@Hossdelux- We sure hope not. Hopefully Mike or someone Mike trusts inspected the car to verify its shortcomings before writing a check. Another example of why buying any car sight unseen online is never a good idea.
Yeah I was referring to whomever originally put this together. I am sure Mike made a good deal. Just a shame, really. I am not in to that type of car, but I think its going to look pretty damn nice properly done.
Finnegans Garage a coffee and a cinnamon roll what a perfect start to Fathers day...Happy Fathers day to everyone.
That car is the grift that keeps on grifting, it feels like. The more you guys dig into it, the more there is that needs to be redone. Now we know why the original owner got rid of it.
This strikes me as he bought a failed youtube build that never was going to run down a track
He definitely isn't holding back the faults of the build.
@@656THOR It's not even that bad. Depends on how many hands were on it, if it's a one man show, that's a lot of work with very little.
@FrequencyOfThought the car is a dumpster fire that is going to cost more to put right than it cost to purchase. Everything but the shell is a disaster. It looks like someone that saw a race car once decided to build it.
@@LuciferMorningstar-wk8quCar to explain more?
@@LuciferMorningstar-wk8qusurely someone with enough money to buy the car could have had enough to finish the build correctly. There is something more.
Just remember: "All previous owners are idiots". You may think that you do everything perfectly, but the next owner of your car will disagree.
This car is pretty neat but the Vette would have been such a cooler build. If you started with a scratch built chassis one would think they may have been able to get you to fit. You can’t get any cooler than a 63 split window.
It's a Sexy looking car that's for sure I think it's unique not really a toyota lover but hey this body looks good. You might even be able to get away with more with this body than a vette. A vette isn't exactly made for drag racing the trans sits in the rear youd be stuffing half the trans in your knee zone
You know it’s not scripted by Fins awkward ass wandering around asking what he can do trying not to get in homies way but also still try to get some content out of this slow ass process.
Thats what makes it good to watch though, the scripted stuff feels forced & very fake. Dave Chappelle on the dirt head shed has that "awkward" vibe to his videos, but dude is incredibly knowledgeable & makes great content. It makes it feel so much more genuine instead of the fabricated BS
Alarm goes off:
Finnegan: That's for picking the kids up from camp.
Finnegan: So what do you need me to do now?
😂😂😂😂
I know this fab shop will do it, they look to be very good, but with a few things that have been pointed out, I’d be making sure this chassis is square, get the laser out, freaking laser beams. If it’s not plum it won’t be a nice car to drive. I did see the Noonan branding so it’s going to have some steam. Even more reasons to make sure it’s square.
The lack of bends in any tubes outside of the funny car cage makes me think it was designed/fabbed by someone else, and then it was put in and the rest of the car was finished by someone else with less experience/tool access - explains the two different weld qualities as well as the bad fit
Possibly... if so, both were complete morons.
Seems like it would've been cheaper to build your own lexus
This is going to be a very expensive redo.
now cut out 90% of the rest of the tubing, and do it right.
Jeez Mike, I hope you got a good deal on this, the more you dig in, the more you have to completely redo.
Was just watching the Charger vs Charger Roadkill episode, since Birdsong restored General Mayhem maybe you can get Birdsong to give Death Metal the the "Super Bee ter" treatment
Car looks like the classic projects of any kind that their was some serious flaws early on and they just kept trying to compensate for them until they realized they needed to start over again and just give up on it.
My daily is a 2015 rcf and I feel like James Bond pulling up anywhere in that thing. By far my favorite vehicle Ive owned.
Sick project my man! Cant wait to see it on the road!
Mike have you ever heard of a pre-purchase inspection?
When you see all that other stuff done wrong, how do you have any faith in the chassis or welds?
Whole cars seems like a nightmare 😱
yep the cage could be 4 plus inch's wider its crazy waste of space for the drive you would almost redo the whole thing who know what the alinement of the 4 link bar points are like
I'm probably wrong on this but I'm thinking it might have been more affordable just to buy a used one of these cars that wasn't modified and then add your own parts to it
Exactly! This initial build was a shit show. Mike must have got it for dirt cheap due to this.
You’re right.
So you bought a vin number lol
Man, I hope you got a smoking deal on that thing. Basically rebuilding the entire car to make it right.
Wow this car is the definition of a basket case. Dude got ripped off hard
So these guys that originally built the car took the "safety third" thing to heart and ran with it!
Metal floor needed on the driver side..
Happy Father's day.. going to be a bad ass car when your done with it.
Happy father's day Mike and all of the fathers out there
Whoever built that heap finally realized they had screwed it up so they sold it.Sorry Mike. Happy Father's Day
No the chassis builder fcuked over about 10-12 different customers outta over 600k and bailed to last Vegas and is now in jail …
Not gonna lie was kinda giving the side eye to this project compared to the other builds…. But that’s over I’m all in!!! Gonna be sick!!!!
“Not gonna lie” has to be the dumbest and most overused statement these days.
Man some guy.. build this at home. The body mount was super sketchy.. better update the tiny brakes to.
that thing was a death trap. the fact the previous owner lied to you, Mike, makes me think you should call him and demand some money back.
Finn is trying to make world burn. 2JZ in Charger but LS in Lexus… what will be next? Installing Windows on Mac? 😂 Love this channel. Can’t wait for 3rd gen HEMI in Corvette.
I've heard you say safety third. Maybe this time, you make safety FIRST so that we can have you to amuse us, plus you're a Dad. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
Gonna take a bunch of merch to get this rig rollin. So much for turbos and on to testing.. at least you know itll be right when you get on track..
Merch will help sustain things but I assure you, my dude got that residual Motor Trend money!! lmao
He's had a blessed life but nobody deserves it more!
Did you buy this car from Wish? Sheesh
As much of a cluster as this car was/is, it's going to be a gorgeous and unique car when it's done. Please leather wrap the roll cage for some extra Lexus vibes.
Man , car will be legit once it’s out of the chassis shop .
Knowing what you know now, would you have still bought it?
How do you trust any of it with some of these choices. Is the actual main cage even worth risking? It doesn’t seem that safety was even thought of. How do you put a firewall in that doesn’t seal the engine compartment off. Death trap 😬
Safety was surely not in anyone's vocab that touched this car before Mike. It is scary that someone though about racing this nightmare.
Happy Father’s Day Mike!
this looks like something they would find on roadkill garage!!! 😂😂😂😂
Seems like a really good body style for a race car.
I already wanted an LC500 but now i want one even more. albeit a stock one because a tube chassis and an LS isn't really feasible over in the UK
Cheddar gorge with a majestic V8 singing... Idk man.
The lc 500 comes with a 5l v8
Oh look, the Lexus LC is no longer blurred
Is this really a Lexus? Full tube chassis, LS motor, TH400 and a body kit. Seems like this is kind of a Mustang funny car that isn't a Mustang. Does it have a VIN? What am I missing?
It's a Lexus because it has a Lexus body. It really isn't any more difficult to understand than you choose to make it. No one in real life talks about cars like "...hey man, check out that full tube chassis race car over there that probably isn't powered by a factory drivetrain that looks like a Lexus LC500 but is really a race car, isn't it cool?!" - it's a Lexus LC500 radial drag n drive car.
@@RyTrapp0 so by that logic, a VW bug on a Jeep frame is a VW, got it.
@@michaelzimmerman635 re: It really isn't any more difficult to understand than you choose to make it
@@RyTrapp0 False... it is not a Lexus anymore. The chassis makes it a Lexus, which I am not sure you could even call what we a chassis at this point.
@@stuartstogdill2406 Whatever makes you happy
You play an expensive game that can go south on you VERY quickly.
Where you see a lexis? I just see a American style dragster with a American v8 with some lexus body panels stick to it..
Since it started off life with a DOHC 5.0L V8 I think it would be quite fitting if you stayed with that philosophy by going with a Coyote from FFRE.
What a bodge job. Not sure if the last builders had severe ADD or just tried to slap it together for a quick sale. Good to see you caught all the problems early and are fixing it the right way
Unless he got that car for stupid cheap(and I doubt it was), why wouldn't you take the time to go take a real hard look at it before dropping the $$ for it...because, no offense to Mike, this almost seems like one of these 'we're gonna lose the shop' unnecessary drama stories...I believe he admitted it's going to cost 2x as much now...I don't get it.
wow, that is some clatty work done,
they just put a Lexus Body on top of a Racecar chassis without even trying tae make it fit together correctly.
If I'm not mistaken ye got tae have the Factory Firewall, front framerail/Domes, floors and rear framerail/axlehoop for a street legal Race certified car.
This chassis ye got there is a purpose build drag Chassis ( I don't know how the rules are there for racing) but I doubt ye can register that as a road car.
If it a purpose built race chassis... whoever did it had no damn clue what they were doing.
Perfect example of an amazing idea with poor execution. As stated before, Good from afar, but far from good. Lemxus LM 500
Why ya wasting time on another project, a lexus, when you've got that beautiful Caddy waiting to get finished?!?!
Fin was trying to be nice about the car. The other guys, not so much 😂
Wow, the only time a Lexus has ever looked good is when it's been stripped of all it's parts.
And of course it's powered by a Chevy.
I seriously hope this was a bad flood car or something else. Who buys a 75k car, just to gut it for body, then doesn't even bother finishing and sells it for 1/10th for the world to see how bad a job they did
How many “street” cars do u need? lol. The caddy, Blashemi and now a Lexus? Lexus needs a 2JZ in it!
Curious, if you don't mind answering... What's the bill for all the work they did on this car?
It's occours to me that this car is just like my ex-wife...beautiful on the outside, and ugly on the inside...
Why buy someone project and repairing all the issues just build a car to your specs. Your paying twice to fix a sub standard build.
The only "hotrod" he owns that's actually usable is his wifes elcamino. Anyone think the caddy ever gets done?
I'm starting to think you would have been better off just starting from scratch.
Dude! I built model cars when I was a kid stronger and safer than that thing! Ready to cert my ass! Ray Charles wouldn't pass it
The C-10--cool!!, the Caddy--super cool!!, this thing,---ehh..
you almost would have been better off just buying a stock LC500
In this episode Mike does a stripdown.
...
And out of context this sentence totally sounds weird. 😂😁😜
Are you doing anything to upgrade the front brakes for drag and drive? I know nothing about drag brakes but they dont look like they'd be up to any real repeated stopping of an emergency stop from speed.
Why would you buy a car you don't fit in?
Or is 'legal' for racing?
That is a big tyre car when you want a small tyre car?
What is up with the bars in the transmission area? It to me blooks like not cool! The bars and the way they (try to jive) don't look like something I'd want to rely on!
Good lord. The body is awesome but FFS might as well start from scratch on the cage. Prob cost just as much time wise tryin to fix someone elses shit show
that chassis looks like it was built for a car 6" narrower, while you are at RK and they are making huge changes, cant they widen it so the body fits properly?
No. Watch the last video on it he said it would be too hard and this was the better and easier way
why are you throwing all this shade at the builder? you bought a car that was unfinished and seems pretty decent but your last videos have made it seem like the builder was incompetent. why not just build the car you way while not throwing shade at the original builder?
Damn just finish one car 🙄
This project makes no sense to me...
Why not just buy a streetcar and modify for drag?
Why waste your time and money on that piece of crap, when you've got the caddy for drag n drive. Finish the caddy!
Technology has mad it possible to run 6's on a 235 size tire just crazy
Lol, the irony of finnegan critiquing other peoples build quality 😂😅
This car will look mad on the street…….2053?
I hope finn bought that project for a song almost seems like he would be better starting with a fresh build rather than changing/upgrading a inferior built roller that wont cert
Oh to have your work sh#* on by a large youtube channel. Don't ever sell your projects.
Like tavarish but with race cars
Is this Brandon Wilbur’s old car??
yep
I guess I was late to the party guessing what the car was but I nailed it. I only watch on motortrend tv which the last episode I saw was when the motor came in and the car was covered with blankets
I like your videos but you don't have a goul! If you have any can you share so we can understand?
with the way that cage is built and how it fits I swear it was built for a different body . the guy or shop that built it probably got a chance at the Lexus body and decided to use it instead of the body they built the cage for .
We have a lot of 13mm tools in Europe😂 had to buy none metric tools for my american car thow.
I wish the 10 speed was a similar size to the asain aa80 8 speed to retrofit to the older ur series engine and Toyota Lexus models
whats the realistic timeline for the delivery back to you, just curious id estimate 8 months am i close
Justin Swansboro will have carbon mounds for that car ...
CJRC built his 2 Lexus cars
Man you been saying for months that you going to get back to work on the caddy but still yet to do. Are you actually going to do something with it not
Trying to buy the original fsm flat bill hat. Can't find it on the site? Xxl
So blasphemy is not going back on drag and drive???
its not built to go 6.s its can only go 8.5s the cage is not strong enough and with the caddy its only set up 8.5s why dont people get that
It would be hard to trust any of what is left in place going forward...
