    One of the proudest moments I've had as a father was when my then 8 year old was watching Mary Poppins for the first time, and he turned to me when Mr. Banks is walking to be fired, utterly devastated, and said "This movie is really about the dad, isn't it?"

    Its hard for me to accuse Belle of stockholm syndrome, mostly because I trust her judgement and her sound mind. If it was a character like ariel, who is naive and is too love-focused, I would think it. Belle is too wise to be manipulated.

    • @leighrmifan
      @leighrmifan 7 років тому +97

      Not to mention a key part of Stockholm Syndrome.
      It is triggered when the victim mistakes a lack of abuse for an act of kindness.
      When Beast stops being cruel to Belle, Bell still kinda hates him.
      It's only when Beast actually tries to be nice to her and makes an active effort to show her that he's changing (eg. the library, learning to read, etc) is when Belle starts to lower her defences and see that there is actually a man behind the monster.
      And after the dance scene, he says she can leave. So she leaves. Never to return.
      It's only when Gaston plans to kill the Beast is when she returns.

    It's funny, I just realized something.
    Today, people on the Internet rave about how Frozen is shit and the films in their childhood (usually Lion King) were way better.
    20 years from now, kids today who will be in their twenties will do the same thing, bashing whatever the new #1 Disney movie is while saying how much better the film of their childhood, Frozen, was.
    And I'll bet that if UA-cam and social media had existed in 1994, people would be saying how the Lion King was overrated, the songs were annoyingly overplayed, and how much better films they grew up with were (probably Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Sleeping Beauty)
    Talk about the Circle of Life. An odd pattern of it seeming like children's films are getting worse and worse, but they're really not, of course.

      I still prefer Tangled over Frozen even though I grew up with the renaissance Disney movies. It's just upsetting to see the movie with better plot get overshadowed by a mess of a story especially considering how much I love the original story by Hans Cristian Anderson which they completely butchered up btw. I still love the new Disney movies as much as the old ones, but as I writer, I can tell a messy script from a well structured one. Also they didn't even keep the message from the original story and I found the characters boring or irrational and the characters goals never kept in focus unlike Tangled.

      The thing about Frozen is that it will stand the test of time. People may not like it now and some of them never will - it's the same with all movies - but it isn't just for children. Obviously the film addresses stranger danger and how suppressing emotion can potentially hurt you and the people around you, but have you ever noticed that it also touches on child abuse and child neglect? The King and Queen were essentially abusing Elsa and neglecting Anna but what makes that so clever is that they never came across as villainous while they were doing it. They were flawed parents who genuinely loved their daughters but just didn't know how to raise them. It's a warning to parents about how loving your kids and knowing how to raise them are two very different things.

    I still never like to include the Pixar films in the Disney collection. Disney is just a label to me! Pixar has done all their great movies by themselves.

    • @22kaybee22
      @22kaybee22 8 років тому +1

      Especially Pixar, who do everything they can to be individuals. I'm ok as long as you label a movie Disney after Disney buys the name (or partners). Like Toy Story had no affiliation with Disney, it was with Lucas Films

    • @elise4287
      @elise4287 8 років тому +12

      Captain Obvious After Disney took over Pixar both studios assisted each other in creating the films. The directors said that the teams of Pixar and Disney always go in and help with each others' films. I think it's fair to include them amongst the Disney films. Pixar is owned by Disney, and any film produced after they bought it is a Disney-Pixar film.

    • @seanleonard5
      @seanleonard5 8 років тому

      Elise M I do understand what you're saying, and it does work against my argument. But even though some people get 3D animated Disney films mixed up with Pixar (My girlfriend thought Tangled was Pixar when I first met her), I think Pixar's style is distinct enough for it to be separated into a different category. Of course, none of that matters in the long run anyways, since most people don't even care about classification, AND that the studios both put out entertaining films anyways.

    • @elise4287
      @elise4287 8 років тому

      Captain Obvious I'm just imagining a top 10 Pixar list, and, honestly, I could only find 8, and the two that could possibly be on the list are pushing it. While Pixar has created some amazing films, they definitely haven't created a lot of them. I think that's why he's putting them together.

      Hardly will there be another Disney film that can emulate what Frozen has done. The Snow Queen theme, the broadway-feeling songs, the clever twists. When Disney announced Moana they knew it's a bad move because a modern Disney princess genre was done because of Frozen. Better stick with other kinds like Big Hero 6 or Zootopia

    • @downnice95
      @downnice95 7 років тому +4

      Frozen does have some problems "Cough" Hans plan makes no sense "Cough " Cough" but it is still a damn good movie and even though his plan is stupid (if they go with the troll evil theory in 2 however it would work) Hans still plays a pretty good nasty asshole at the end.
      Lion King which I love also has it share of problem as well with the moral being forgotten in the end and Can you feel the love tonight being a awful awful song, yet it is still a all time classic and I still love it.
      If you have good characters which both do, then it the plot issues I think can be overlooked

    Good Lord, I can't imagine being so happy and energetic at 3 am. That's the thing, man. At the risk of sounding like a weirdo obsessed fan, that's one of the reason I enjoy Doug's content so much. He just has such a passion and love for what he's talking about.
    Even when he's angry at a film, he never seems like he's just doing his job or going through the motions because he has to make a living. It's always entertaining, interesting, and an absolute joy to listen to.
    Gotta say, I'd be more excited if I met Doug Walker than if I met a big a-list actor. Like, 10,000 times more. I do promise myself, however that in the unlikely event I do get a chance to meet him, I'm gonna be calm and collected and just say "I like what you do. You've inspired me to be passionate, creative, and open-minded. And seeing what you've done over the past 7-8 years or so has fundamentally changed me as a person for the better. Not just in the appreciation of film, but all forms of art."

    Well, I'm going to say this now: I love every single Disney film, every single one. But my number one, in my opinion, is the most underrated film of all time. While the Hunchback of Notre Darme is on most people's top 5, it still shocks me that this movie isn't mentioned AT ALL. The movie I'm talking about is of course... Tarzan. I can't think of any problem at all, it's my favourite movie of all time, not just Disney. I asked someone the other day "What's better, Jungle book or Tarzan?" And they said Jungle book, and words alone cannot describe how shocked I was. Yes of course everyone has a different opinion, but this movie is so underrated! The only "meh" thing about the movie is the villain, even then his laugh and evil intentions get to me, and prevent me calling him bad. The relationship between the two leads is, and I never say this word, PERFECT. They spend perfect time on it, they show the perfect scenes, it's a beautiful movie in every concept, and when it gets dark it is dark, it's simply amazing. It has everything a good movie has, depth. It has sad moments, happy moments, heartwarming moments, and moments where it makes you happy to be living. I really wish this movie was more well known, it's just simply amazing.

      OzaeGaming I think the issue with tarzan was it tried too much, which some may consider a bad thing, but I really enjoyed the film also, though it's not on my list of favourite movies. The emphasis on the cel shading artstyle is practically gorgeous to look at and helps personify the environments as well as the emotions of the main characters. However, in terms of character development relationships in the movie, I think they included too much. Some scenes aren't played to their full potential, some drag on. I think the structure of this movie couldve been rethought to give more time to scenes which deserve it. The villain, as you mentioned is also another issue. Overall, I think what a like most about it is for the most part is it just wants to tell a story. It's not concerned about any other elements or sideplots and just focuses on what the audience came to see. Tarzan.
      Also.....DAMN RANDY NEWMAN DX

    • @achehex

      OzaeGaming Can't agree with you more.
      What I like is the range it covers without feeling forced.
      The romance between Tarzan and Jane, the motherly relationship with Kala, the stuggle for acceptance, the bloody awesome badass action.
      It's also a very silent movie for the most part, which allows the animation to really shine through.

      OzaeGaming Tarzan is probably in my top 5. However, I feel personally that Hunchback is better for telling a deep and mature story in a surprising way. Delving into religion, lust, persecution, discrimination, THAT is amazing for a kids movie. Then again, Tarzan's villain is hanged on a vine due to his blind anger.
      I think The Lion King is the second best Disney movie for the sheer amount of emotion within it, not to mention the beautiful music and colors. TLK2 is probably my third favorite for just being the first but slightly less amazing.
      Tarzan is amazing though, and despite what people say, I love Phil Collins, and think Tarzan is the only Disney movie to have CONSISTENTLY good songs. I wouldn't say any of the songs are as good as the Circle of Life/Be Prepared or Hellfire/Bells of Notre Dame, but TLK had Hakuna Matata and Hunchback had A Guy Like You.

      Oh, I should also mention that I do like the soundtrack, maybe that is a problem however as I did like only one song, that being two worlds. I guess the rest is alright but maybe it would have been better if the soundtrack was just instrumental.

    How dare Frozen be so annoyingly popular, it's not like we treat Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Toy Story this way.
    In all seriousness though, I'd actually like to see a "What If" of the Internet being at it's peak when those three films came out. There would just wouldn't be enough popcorn in the world.

      Ryan Robotham actually Lion King was the Frozen of it's day with all the media saturation. You could not escape the Lion King hype. Everyone sang the songs, it was in all the stores, is shortly became a popular well done Broadway show, it got two direct to DVD movies and two animated shows. Hell, Animal Kingdom itself is practically made just to promote Lion King and still is. I know this cause I was a 90s kid sucked in by the hype, and I can safely say it's just as overhyped as Frozen.

    I think the thing with Pixar is that it takes old ideas like Toys coming to life, the life of a Bug, Monsters in closets etc but gives them all a new modern twist or a lasting impact like Dr. S Grinch etc. (the flims are debatable but the books aren't) Dahl works etc.
    Its not all original but the minds behind it can make it timeless.
    Good to see Pixar coming back after hitting a flat note with Brave.

    Up came out when I was like 10, and I haven't seen it since I was like 12 or so, but those first 20 minutes are still incredibly powerful and amazing to me. The events they go through are so brilliantly told through imagery to sum up life in such a way that is simple enough to understand for kids and yet complex and real enough for adults. Truly a masterpiece of a scene.
    So if u were wondering Doug, kids, at least ones with any sort of intelligence, can pick up and understand what is happening throughout that scene. The emotional impact totally works on both levels.

    It bothers me when people lump Pixar films into "Disney films". Disney is the publisher, but those films were made by Pixar studios, and they deserve the credit. When I think "Disney films" I usually think of "Disney Feature Animation" or now "Disney Animation Studios". They are the ones responsible for pioneering feature animation originally. Not to be confused with Pixar.
    There's a difference between "Disney" the corporation and "Disney" the animation studio.

      Steven Bowser disney basically owns pixar everything they do is published by pixar and pixar stuff is at disneyland so why

    • @Balthazar2242
      @Balthazar2242 8 років тому

      Brendan McCabe
      Distributing and producing a film is not the same as developing the film.
      So this is how it works: Pixar is a studio campus where Pixar staff create films in-house. All the credit goes to Pixar for the creation of Pixar films. Disney only helps fund and advise and such, but it's Pixar doing the filmmaking.
      From there, Disney corporation distributes the film. They advertise, sell it, market it for DVD, etc.
      So really, to say "Toy Story is a Disney film" is sort of a misnomer. It was technically sold by Disney, but the people who actually _made_ the film are Pixar, and Pixar alone deserves the credit.
      So to answer your question, I don't equate OWING a studio to deserving credit for what they make. Just because Disney owns and distributes Pixar films doesn't mean they deserve any credit for making the film.

    • @brendanmccabe2249
      @brendanmccabe2249 8 років тому +1

    • @Balthazar2242
      @Balthazar2242 8 років тому +1

      Brendan McCabe
      I realize that. Disney corporation owns everything from Marvel to Star Wars to Pixar.
      But when I think of "Disney films", I personally think of the films developed by Disney Feature Animation (now Disney Animation Studios). So I mean the long list of animated films starting with Snow White and currently ending with Big Hero 6 (Zootopia on the way soon). That is the true "Disney".
      I think that if we considered every affiliate of Disney corporation to be making "Disney films" then I would expect the upcoming Star Wars films to be in this list soon, or maybe the Marvel films. But even though Disney owns those developers, I don't think Princess Leah is a "Disney Princess" and I don't consider Loki a "Disney Villain".
      Am I making sense?

      "a great short film"...... Up was a full-length feature with intricate writing and characters that were planned for years, while Frozen was literally changed a year and a half before the release because they liked the song "Let It Go" that much. Up was a masterpiece that took so much time to create, while Frozen was literally just thrown on paper quickly and scrambled together from pieces taken from old films (Kristoff's design is literally Flynn's original design, and Anna and Elsa are basically twins with other 3D princesses; the songs were lazily written in; the animation lazy, when you can see obvious flaws and emptiness that can't be excused with it being a snowy climate (not talking about the hair thing, either, because that was actually one of the clever things); and, again, the writing was so lazy when you go back and look through it all Frozen is is a road trip that took way too long to get ready and didn't really have a satisfactory ending that brought all of the themes together). Yeah, this might be my opinion, but really putting Up below Frozen... that's just logically flawed.

      +Elise M The change in Frozen was well-done IMO because Elsa is now a grey character as opposed to a black-and-white character with a thin motivation like the original script. The only part of Up that was remotely interesting to me was the opening 10 minutes, then it descended into a nonsensical romp. Hence a great short, but not a great feature length film. While it's true Up took years to be fully developed, there were a lot of plot inconsistencies in the film. Frozen had nil. Speaks a lot to the quality of their writers and directors. Muntz's age, the fact that carrying a house the way Carl did defied the laws of physics (which cannot be excused as this is an actual country and not a fictional kingdom) and the countless continuity errors. Frozen did have continuity errors too but it wasn't as numerous as Up. As for Kristoff being similar to Flynn's original design, prove it. I didn't think Anna and Elsa were similar in any way, besides a little stylisticaly with Rapunzel or Merida. The definition of lazy is Up , not Frozen in my opinion, and that's not logically flawed unless you could prove it with facts rather than opinions.

      +Elise M Upon viewing some concept art, I concur that there were similarities between Kristoff and Flynn's original design. My bad on not checking up on it first. However does that make it objectively bad? No. Flynn's actual design was a lot different from the original concept art. Up borrowed from films like Dinosaur as well, and I thought there were similarities between Carl and Ellie in terms of their facial features. All of this is besides the point though since it comes down to opinions, but the fact that there are more continuity errors and plot inconsistencies in Up are true.

    I love how so many people are talking about how Frozen is overrated and has been played too much and that Lion King is so much better, but that movie has had the crown of the best animated movie of all time for over TWENTY YEARS and everybody keeps talking about how good it is, without wanting to mention or acknowledge that there some big flaws with that movie.
    Oh sure, hate on the movie that came out three years ago and that a lot of people like for many good reasons despite its flaws, but if someone talks the tiniest bit bad about the Lion King, heads will roll and that person is Satan himself and so on and so forth. I for one welcome a new good animated movie with good songs, stunning animation and a nice message. But if you like Lion King, good for you. Enjoy your movie, and let Frozen fans enjoy their movie!

      The Lion King is my favourite Disney movie hands down, and even my favourite movie of all time (as well as Mad Mad Max: Fury Road and Deep Blue Sea), but I have one mega-huge gripe about it:
      Simba is not a relatable main character. He's two totally different characters between childhood and adult, which confuses me even more.
      I know some people will disagree with me, but I believe that is the biggest flaw of TLK and hence the reason why it is not mentioned in this video.

    Personally, I think Lilo & Stitch is one of the most overlooked movies of all time. In my opinion, it is one of the greatest animated films of all time; up there with movies like Fantasia. While the aliens are not quite as amazing as the sister story, that's just a sign of how amazing the sister story is. As far as I'm concerned, only Pixar movies have come close to having such a complex, realistic, and mature portrayal of family.

    I dunno about Frozen. None of the songs were very memorable (BEFORE OVERPLAYED), the characters weren't adeptly developed, the world wasn't explained very well, the trolls could either have been integrated into the story far better or written out entirely, there was absolutely NO buildup towards the twist so that it didn't affect me emotionally so much as confuse me, the characters and the story both undergo massive identity crises for a screenplay that goes back and forth on how it wants to write them, and Bottom Line: I just wasn't that invested in any of it. I'm not one to criticize a film for how overplayed it is or how it's everywhere nowadays. It's just that even as I walked out of the theater after seeing it, I just found it very mediocre.

    I'm always amazed when Doug makes videos like this. An hour straight of uncut video except for in between the numbers, all just him, staying totally on track, making all the points he wants to make, not getting distracted or needing a gimmick to keep attention or make his points. I'm only listening to it with the video playing on my second monitor as I do most videos like this, but still it's a really impressed by videos like this.
    Anyway, for what he was saying about classic Disney films seeming to have something extra in regard to animation direction, I agree to an extent. A lot of the people they had back then had literally been working for Disney and with Walt Disney himself since the company was founded. Every team in charge of each aspect of the film's creation had a familiar and dynamic relationship with one another. In some cases that could be a very bad thing because they can get set in their ways and get lazy, but that didn't seem to happen with their teams. They were also much smaller teams of animators, you only have to look at how short the credits are compared to credits these days to see how vast film teams have become.
    Nowadays, the way I understand, Disney hires animators mostly on a commission basis. They hire them to make a specific film or work on a specific project, only paying them for that project. So the animation teams are not always the same, and nor are the people familiar with one another. I don't have any science or statistics to prove it, but I can't help but feel like this kind of revolving door hiring method combined with the VAST droves of people required to make these films and the impossibility of all of them being able to meet each other would take a toll on the final product.
    Back in the old days, the animators and songwriters worked in the same building, and they could freely collaborate. I'm sure they still work together, but since there are so many it's now mostly directors or head animators who make those visits and pass that along to the lower animators. It's not as dynamic and personal, and a lot of those relationships have been made more corporate and bureaucratic. And I understand that's simply to control and keep track of the vast number of people now required to make films, but it's still a type of difference that can have an effect on the final product.

      Walt Disney was a perfectionist and on top of that, he genuinely cared about his work. That's why his movies are of such high quality. He would by upset to see what Disney has become since he died. Granted, they do still make good movies now and then - I love Frozen and I think that, despite being CGI, it's one of a very small handful of recent Disney movies that captured the magic of those that came out during the Disney Renaissance - but the company as a whole has become corrupt since he kicked the bucket. Just look at how they're trying to assert their dominance over all the other film studios - they bought Lucasfilm and Fox within the last few years and they're holding back a lot of artists because of their need for control - or how often they shriek about racism and sexism when more often than not, they're the ones who are being racist and sexist. Sorry, but I'm still pissed off that Disney helped ruin Star Wars.

      DoctorWhoBAMF Actually, it was groundbreaking. It was the first Disney movie to really use music in a full Broadway style to tell the story. Every great thing that Disney accomplished over the next decade, from a rapid rise in animation and effects, to better characterizations, and beyond, started in this film.
      If anything, it did it a little too well, because Disney loved the formula enough that they sometimes were trapped by it.

      That's actually my least favorite of the Disney Renaissance films. I wasn't sure why for a long time, then I watched it recently on Disney Plus and figured it out: the tone is all over the place. It has all these mature themes, yet it constantly undercuts them with corny slapstick. I know it's a kids movie, but this just proves that Hunchback isn't meant to be a kids movie. I still like the film, just not as much as the other Renaissance films, not even Pocahontas.

    10. I remember you talking about this one in the Top 11 Underrated Nostalgic Classics video from a while back. Haven't seen it yet, but I might check it out.
    9. I'm still surprised you put this one on the list considering you praised basically one half of the film (Lilo) and kind of dismissed the other half (Stitch). With that said, I adore this movie! Like you said about Lilo, she's a believable kid with believable issues, and I love it when media includes kid characters like that. As for Stitch, I would say his issues are also relatable to anybody, such as figuring out what to do when you aren't following your intended purpose. Plus, the relationships between the characters are fantastic! It's definitely one of my top 10 favorites from Disney.
    8. I've been meaning to rewatch Alice again. I mainly remember the surreal imagery and the Unbirthday song. Speaking of which, Have a Very Merry UN-Birthday everybody!
    7. Up is well... uplifting! It's probably one of my favorite Pixar films. Hunchback is also great! Obvious problems aside, it's a wonderful experience with beautiful animation and songs, along with (mostly) great characters.
    6. I thought this one was alright. Honestly, I pretty much feel the same about this film as you do with The Lion King: a box-office giant with a solid story, good animation, some likable characters, plenty of creativity, yet also tremendous flaws like with the villain, screwing the intended message (loving/marrying someone you just met), other characters that aren't that special, and a couple of bad songs ('In Summer' and 'Fixer Upper').
    5. I vaguely remember seeing a clip or two from this one as a kid. I might need to also check this one out at some point.
    4. A film that's beautiful both within and without. Also one of my Disney favorites.
    3. Just about everything about this film is phenomenal! Another one of my favorites from Pixar. In fact, some of my favorite Pixar movies have been directed by Pete Doctor (Monsters Inc, Up, Inside Out).
    2. What else could be said that isn't... Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! I've also been meaning to check out Saving Mr. Banks.
    1. I rewatched some of the segments and they're still great. Now I just need to rewatch the whole film.

    My Top 5 Disney Animated Films:
    5. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
    I watched this movie only once when I was a kid. I didn't think too much of it and didn't watch it for a long time. Until around high school, I watched this film and had a very different approach to it than when I was a kid. I was floored. The dark atmosphere, the main character, the villain, the animation, the songs (Hellfire, OH. MY. GOD!!) and Alan Menken's score, all of it floored me from beginning to end. But it's not a perfect film. I don't hate the gargoyles but they are annoying and the tone is inconsistent at times (mostly from the gargoyles). But the stuff that's good is extremely good, some of the best from Disney's other works.
    4. The Lion King
    Ever since I was a kid, this was my favourite Disney film. I loved everything about it and thought it was a perfect Disney film. However, over time, I don't think it's as perfect as I thought when I was a kid. I don't hate it or even dislike it now, otherwise why would it be on my Top 5? I still love the animation, Hans Zimmer's score, the characters, the story, the songs etc. It's just that the overall experience of it all isn't the same as when I was a kid. I still love it all and still watch it every now and then.
    3. Fantasia
    This is one of those movies that has gotten better and better over time for me. When I was a kid, I watched it at my grandparents place but only enjoyed The Sorcerer's Apprentice segment than the other ones. I watched the sequel more than this one because it was more bright and colorful. But over time, much like the experience in Lion King is not as strong over time, the experience of this film (now that I'm older) is stronger, and I respect what this film did more than all the Disney films I've seen. From the lush animation, the powerful music, the visually emotional storytelling from each segment, it's all a marvel to watch and experience every single time I see it.
    2. Beauty and the Beast
    To me, this movie represents everything that Disney stands for. The music, animation, characters, emotional storytelling, appeal to both children and adults, the overall feel and magic of this movie. This is another Disney movie that gets better over time for me.
    1. Pinocchio
    Just like The Lion King, I've loved this movie ever since I was a kid. This was one of the first Disney films I ever saw and it still holds a special place for me. The story and it's morals, genuine/scary moments and overall wonderful Disney feel, it's all still so strong to me because the emotional resonance is still there to me and, in my opinion, is my personal favourite Disney film.

    Thank you for listing Frozen. You are proving your integrity as a critic and as a connoisseur of the art in question.
    It's always a pleasure listening to your passion.

      I'm irritated by all the people who always say that they've lost faith in Doug's opinion for revering Frozen so much.

      People who think they're cool by bashing something popular deserve no respect.

      Frozen is a damn good movie. I promise you, if ANY of the movies from the Disney Renaissance had come out in 2013 - Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, you name it - people would have been bashing them just as hard. Even Oscar winning movies like Citizen Kane, Armadeus and The Godfather can receive this kind of hatred. For example, people have complained about Armadeus' "historical inaccuracies" even though it was clearly shown that Salieri was telling the story and his mind was falling apart, making him an unreliable narrator. Most of the time, it's just a case of people trying to separate themselves from the crowd. Ironically, this usually results in them simply joining another crowd. Doug's one of the few people who can actually bring weight to his criticisms of popular movies.

    Ok I was watching and I knew Mary Poppins would be super high up on the list, I was expecting it to be first. So when I saw it was 2nd I thought "man now I'm gonna be disappointed with the #1 choice"
    And then I saw what #1 was
    and just a little squeeeeee happened inside me :3

    Confused Matthew explains pretty well why Beauty and the Beast ISN'T about Stockholm Syndrome. And I agree, it's a great movie.

    I'm really glad to see "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" on this list, not enough people are familiar with that movie! That was one of my favorites as a child. It's been a long time since I've seen it, and just hearing Doug talk about the music, especially from the overture, I actually got goosebumps just from thinking about it. It is that good.

      Honestly , Rescuers is really boring. It's not terrible or anything, just kinda boring, the sequel is A LOT better.

    I watched Up when I was nine and I didn't relate to the opening, but I still loved it. I even got a little misty eyed when the workers screwed up his mailbox and didn't understand why he was so upset, and I had never gotten emotional about any movie prior.
