If they just took out venom and saved him for 4 the movie would've been so much better. I like harry as the new goblin cause that's what's been built up from the last movie and seeing him in spiderman 3 was really cool and sandman was such an awesome character it's just venom was added and it made the movie too stuffed. Like it could've ended with harry and spiderman teaming up to defeat sandman instead of venom of sandman and ugggghhh. I liked how venom looked though I know everyone bitched about how he wasnt big and muscular but it didn't bother me just him being in the movie bothered me.

Kind of annoys me that he uses the excuse that a movie is unoriginal all the time. Many films are unoriginal, but it's the execution that counts. Of course enjoy what you enjoy, but unoriginality is such an over used comment in regards to movie plot. In a world where thousands of movies are released every year, there are bound to be story elements that are similar or down right identical. It just isn't a valid reason in my opinion, but that is just MY opinion.

    • @comiclover99
      @comiclover99 8 років тому +28

He uses it because people always say that the matrix was "so original" and the idea "blew their minds". If one of their reasons for liking the movie is its originality, then a rebuttel would be to show that it is unoriginal.

    • @madgameralexthegreat
      @madgameralexthegreat 8 років тому +7

+Giantguy1321 The reason why unoriginal is used describe a story or part of it is because when you get a scene that you recognize without knowing the story and then you can just say what is going to happen based off what you have seen it is not going to leave a great impact. Seeing X and because of that event Y takes place is only going to impress people a few times in other places, if at all. If you can leave part way through a movie during your first viewing only to come back a few minutes later and be just as entertained as everyone that watched what you didn't, then what did you miss out on? That's not to say you shouldn't be entertained by something after seeing something similar, but if an idea in something you make has already been done, then you can't blame the audience for not being entertained.

Yeah it has a shit ton of flaws but it's a really enjoyable film. Johnny Depp can really sing, well atleast I think that. I know people didn't like how Helena Bonham Carter was too sweet, but I loved that direction of Mrs. Lovett's character. The directing was really good, I liked how the blood was made to contrast the dull colors. I thought it was a good film overall.

Well I wouldn't say Charlie is a horrible movie, it just doesn't hold a candle to the original. Pretty much everything besides the visual style is done better in Willy Wonka. And as the NC said in his old vs new review of the two films, the first bit wasn't really that bad. In fact, cut Depp out of the movie and it's not a bad movie at all. Just average and kinda boring at times. Johnny Depp was extremely obnoxious in this movie though not to mention apathetic towards the children who he's supposedly putting in charge of his factory.

  • @tomnorton4277
    @tomnorton4277 6 років тому +8

Bringing back Tilda Swinton for that cameo in Prince Caspian was a great decision. That scene isn't in the book but I liked the way they worked the White Witch into the story. They didn't focus on her long enough for her to take over the movie but they gave her enough screen time to leave an impact. It's kind of like Darth Vader in Rogue One where they utilised the less is more technique and ensured that Vader would leave a massive impact with only a few minutes of screen time.
They even brought Jadis (that's the White Witch's real name for those who don't know) back very briefly in Voyage of the Dawn Treader. That movie wasn't very well received compared to the other two movies, but her presence added a bit more depth to Edmund and showed that the White Witch is still in the back of his mind and still trying to influence him. A person's mind can be both their best friend and their worst enemy.

My opinion often gets invalidated the moment I mention that I like the live-action grinch remake. Yes, that's right. I think it's a good movie. I think Jim Carrey gave a hilariously memorable performance. I think the overall set design and dialogue was very true to the Seuss-esque feel while still keeping modern storytelling and humor in it. I think they did a good job expanding on the original story to add depth to the characters which was never needed in past iterations. Some of the humor is crude and juvenile, but that's because the grinch is a crude and juvenile character. And it actually has lots of clever jokes mixed with the lowbrow stuff, making it a great family/kids movie. While Doug and others disagree, I truly believe that it gives genuine respect to the source material while still being its own thing, unlike The Cat in the Hat or other shit. I still watch it and the original every year with my family. It's really not a bad movie

Bad guy steals nukes and threatens to use them in the US if they aren't paid a shit ton of money by the government, but I find it to be enjoyable. There is a love interest for the good guy, who is sometimes more useful than he is (she's a park ranger who's always giving him her gun) she kills a couple of bad guys, manages to separate the train cars to keep the nuke away from Denver, where they're headed, and in the beginning finds Riley Hale and helps him after he's stranded in a Utah desert when Deke (bad guy) crashes their B3 bomber after releasing the nukes. While is not nearly as good as the previous 2 (T1 is my favorite of the series) I liked the idea of Skynet finally taking over. Seeing John Connor hurt after the death of his mother and the T-800 from T2 I thought was a clever Idea to see why he wants to escape and forget all of his past. Seeing Arnold is always tone of fun also!! But I see problems too. The T-X is just a mixed between the original terminator and the T-1000 and the movie is also a reapet of the second movie. Some scenes are very boring but other scenes are very clever. Seeing the robots starting to take over the humans is so epic to me and the final scene is so emotional too in a way! It wasn't completely terrible but it could have been done far better.
Rather than going to a buried pyramid in Antarctica it would be more interesting as a normal human colony world in the Alien universe (perhaps not as bleak as Hadley's Hope though). Have the Predators intentionally release the xenomorphs on the colony as a kind of hunting reserve for them to return to years later. The xenomorph hive starts to rapidly grow and threaten the humans. Humans call in help from the colonial marines. This potentially threatens the Predator's hunting ground forcing them to return to the planet in order to remove the threat and allow the xenomorph hive to continue expanding. Of course xenomorphs aren't sentient so they don't realise the Predators are trying to protect the hive from the marines. So then you've got humans trying to wipe out the xenomorphs to protect their homes, Predators trying to wipe out the human soldiers to preserve their hunting grounds and xenomorphs fighting to defend their hive from both. That's pretty scary because it's not like the Predators are there just to hunt humans, they're trying to set up a future hunt and the humans are just pests that are in the way. And they're also not actively trying to kill the xenomorphs because they want more of them to hunt later (so the humans have to wipe out the xenomorphs because the Predators are trying to avoid fighting them where possible) Xenomorphs will do what xenomorphs will do (sneak around trying to eat/lay eggs in the humans and Predators. In all this humans would just be innocent bystanders that are a nuisance to the Predators and food to the xenomorphs. Perhaps have an element of mystery to the story by not revealing that the Predators put the xenomorphs on the planet until towards the end (perhaps the humans stumble across a hologram recording on the Predator ship or something).

I really liked Man of Steel because it really was the first Superman movie break away from the Christopher Reeves version of Superman every non-mondern comic book fan seems to have in their heads about the character. Superman is a bad ass and this was the first movie to show that.

Um Superman Returns broke from the donner superman even though it's sort of a sequel to those films...That superman managed to be the boy-scout but also had to deal with coming back to the relationships of the people he had left behind for so long.
Also menawhile the animated universe had and showed the true and real superman the whole time...
All star superman, Superman Doomsday, The death of Superman, Justice League, Justice league unlimited, The adventures of Superman, Superman VS the elite etc.
all are some of the best superman you can find or get, not only do they show what superman is and about, but also how superman feels about the idea of just killing a person instead of finding a better way...
Man of steel turns superman from the boy-scout that reflects the american way to a emo brooding destructive machine who resents having to help or save people.
Again there's nothing to Zack synder's superman...and now that they've established that he will kill, they had to go out of there way to write scenario's and situations to keep him from just doing that again...
that's why superman doesn't kill, first becasue of the ethical and idealist reasons, but also becasue once you allow him to kill, why would he stop at one?

    • @lunavioleta001
      @lunavioleta001 4 роки тому

In Man of Steel, Superman didn't have an actual fight until the third act so most the movie is about his character and how he grows to become the "man of steel", not "Superman". I love the execution of his character and he wasn't a mindless killing machine. If you didn't like it, that is fine. But don't lie and make shit up. Also, the destruction and fighting has a purpose. You don't have to like the purpose or it's execution. You don't have to like anything.

It always bugged me that the Narnia movie series always seemed to start with 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' when that was actually the 2nd book. I never understood why 'The Magician's Nephew' was ALWAYS pushed aside when it's essentially the creation story of Narnia.

Not really a movie per se, but there is a music group from certain movies that everybody loves to hate on:
Nickelback, a band that I have no shame in liking, despite the stuff they get laughed at for what they make.
The movies that they're featured in are also some that I liked that everybody didn't:
    Spider-Man (the 2002 soundtrack, anyway)
    Daredevil
    The Punisher
    The Condemed

Nickelback does get a lot of hate, even though they aren't as bad as people make them out to be.
Sure, it's fun to take the piss out of a song like "Photograph" but they have decent tracks such as "Window Shopper," "Fly," "Curb," "Breathe," "Leader of Men," "Worthy to Say," "Hold Out Your Hand," basically stuff from the first two albums.

Amane Suou I still pretty much hate them (believe me, I TRIED to like 'em, but they don't do anything for me). I give Chad K. credit for discovering Theory of a Deadman, though (who is incidentally a MUCH better band).

I'm that person that tends to read the book before the movie, but I adored the Narnia movies! Those films were very well made. Sometimes translating a book to film is difficult, especially when it's Disney and they have to keep it kid friendly. However, Prince Caspian was one of my favorites, it got dark but not too dark, and it made me (who was about 12-13 at the time of watching it) feel more grown up. Lord of the Rings is another one of those trilogies that translate very well, but it is also very difficult to appeal to the fans who are reading the books and consider it very much a huge part of their childhood.
Ms. Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children on the other hand was a dreadful translation, and I didnt read the book until after watching the film. They flip flopped the characters, made an odd romance between two characters and left it on a weird note. The Giver, which was a good film, was a horrible translation of the book. There was no romance between the two leads, but people wanted to romanticize it.
Book to film movies are those that need to be watched but keep it in the back of your mind how difficult it is for a book to be translated to a film.

      6. Meet the Fockers: Although "Meet the Parents" is decent, but this one is actually funny because Bernie and Ross Fockers steal the show and makes me laugh when they act weird, but honestly it's funny as ever.
      5. Under the Tuscan Sun: I like moments where Diane Lane spends time in Italy, but seriously it's good, check it out.
      4. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: After two prequels are bad and boring, but this one actually is really good. Not only that, the beginning, the dark side build-up, the lost of our heroes, and of course it takes it seriously with the duel scene and how drama it is. Of course the corny lines, plastic CG effects, and all of these nonsense that Lucas try to make better movie, but I deserve him as a good movie.
      3. Spider-Man 3: I really like this movie.
      and...
      2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008): I still really enjoy this movie and there's nothing wrong about this. A fridge scene, no. The money swings, no. The CG alien, not really. But the action, the build-up, and the quest is epic. No matter what, I like this movie.
      and...

The villain is definitely poor, though. I would've preferred if their end goal was to get their hands on the technology of Atlantis or maybe they want to show the world that Atlantis still exists but the Atlantians don't want that kind of attention. That would've been far more interesting. But at least Milo kind of calls out on it

    10: The Giant Claw
    9: X-Men Origins Wolverine
    8: Hancock
7: The Cable Guy, lots of people hate it.
6: The Room, that movie is amazing.
    5: Ghost Rider
    4: Sorcerer's Apprentice
    3: National Treasures 2
    2: X3
    1: Spiderman 3

1 film that i like but Everybody seems to hate is The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The reason why i love the film so much is because it realy stuck close to the ultimate spider-man comics and i wanted to see a live action spider-man movie set in that universe. i admit that the film was rushed and could have been made better if they gave it more time but for what we got i still don't think it's that bad of a film. I realy enjoyed the villains backstories as well i liked the fact that the reason harry hates peter towards the ending is because he felt betrayed. i also liked how electro was somewhat of an outcast people didn't realy respect or even care about him which gives him more reason to do what he does and why he hates people. It sucks that we didn't get The Amazing Spider-Man 3 because i realy would've liked to find out would would've happened next in that franchise.

One of those films for me is Blackhat (2015). I found it on Netflix and went in blind, having not watched any trailers at all (I later found out that the trailer’s weren’t that good) and being a fan of Michael Mann and I was surprised by it. It wasn’t perfect with the love story coming out of nowhere, but for the rest of the elements and especially the hacking, it was a refreshing and more realistic take on hacking in action movies while also keeping my attention. Overall, the film was enjoyable and didn’t deserve to flop at the box office.
#2 on my list is Chappie (2015). Another movie which I avoided the trailers for and watched purely on the director’s name, this time being Neil Blomkamp (District 9). I loved District 9 and even enjoyed Elysium despite it’s heavy handed themes. This one not only met my expectations in terms of drama, themes, and visuals, but also managed to be just as good as District 9. And the visuals are really photorealistic for a mid budget movie.
#3 is Assassins Creed (2016). Wasn’t Oscar-Worthy but as an adaptation of the series, it did great in my eyes.
#4 is Tomorrowland. The film wasn’t perfect, having an ok-ish second half but overall, it was pretty enjoyable and above-average.
#5 is Ghost in the Shell (2017). Again, it wasn’t Oscar-Worthy and underperformed at the box office but after seeing Christ Stuckmann give it an A-, I thought it would be worth checking out. And it was. The film is visually beautiful and what’s crazy about the effects was that they pulled it off with a budget smaller than Alita Battle Angel and it still holds it’s own against that movie due to one person, John Dykstra (Spider-Man 1 and 2, Star Wars, and recent Tarantino films). Visuals aside, the film is decently written and has good acting. Coming off Snow White and the Hunstman, Rupert Sanders did an excellent job capturing the feel and look of Ghost in the Shell and despite the film not being as deep and as meaningful as the original (which I have yet to watch), this looks to be the turning point for anime adaptations as a whole.
#6 is Dark Phoenix (2019). Again, it’s not a perfect movie as it had problems with the underdeveloped villains and the infamous “X-Women” scene, but as a whole it’s pretty solid. I pretty much avoided this one in theatres due to the bad reviews but after a while, I decided to rent it and see if it’s as bad as people were saying. The answer: Not really. Despite the problems mentioned above, the film looks and sounds amazing, the slow pacing was a lot better than I thought it would be, and even the writing and directing is kind of solid here. Simon Kinberg wrote The Last Stand, which also has the Dark Phoenix, but Fox brought in Zak Penn because they considered Kinberg’s script to be too dark. Here, he gets a second chance at the story and he does a lot better job than last time. People complained about the scale being too small and from what I’ve heard about the original comic, I can understand why. Regardless of the scale, they still managed to pull it off. I still honestly think that Last Stand is one of the worst X-Men films alongside Apocalypse (2016) but luckily the lines and deliveries weren’t cringy. Even Sophie Turner’s acting is better here than Apocalypse which might be due to the change in Director. Speaking of Directing, this is Kinberg’s directorial debut and I think his directing was pretty solid in most parts, even more so than Bryan Singer’s efforts in Apocalypse. Even Chris Claremont, who wrote the original comic, praised this adaptation and now, I can see why he liked it.

I like "The Bourne Legacy." Although it didn't have the great character depth of the first 3 films, any of the fantastic story, and the main character is so bland in comparison to Jason Bourne, but the action sequences were just as finely crafted as the original, I liked the relationship between the two main characters, and is overall a good, yet pointless companion to "The Bourne Ultimatum." Overall, a good action movie, but not a good Bourne movie.

I actually like Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, the costumes were great, the message about finding yourslef once again is important specialy for a young adult (or not so young), and I like that Alice was the one to defeat the monster at the end (I know his name but I may misspell it)while wearing a suit of armor that was pretty *and* practical
I also have enjoyed every single Pirates of the Caribbean movie even if I do admit that the fourth one is the weakest one, mainly cause I like Penelope Cruz's character but by the end I am sure they just didn't know which direction they wanted her character to go

My no. 1 in this category is “Krull”. The end of the year it was made, Siskel and Ebert placed it in the “Top 5 Worst Film of the Year” category because they didn’t like the name of the film, and claimed they didn’t even know what Krull was. It is simple; Krull was the name of the world in which the story takes place, which, had they been paying attention, is mentioned at the very start. My husband and I saw it in a theatre. We loved it so much that we went back and watched it again the next night. We’d never done that before. Years later, we had a chance to watch it again, this time with the family. Now we ALL love it. The characters are fun, the world had an atmosphere I didn’t want to leave, and I truly cared about the characters. It has a nice mythological feel to it. And the kicker? I typically HATE this genre…bad OR good! No, it wasn’t the biggest budget, didn’t have the world’s most spectacular special effects, didn’t generate a huge fan base or result in the production of action figures, and no, it didn’t change the world. But I loved to escape there and go through the adventures with the characters. I still find it truly entertaining.

Me trying to explain Watchmen unpopularity to people who haven't seen it: "For these that came for the action there was too much talking and thinking, and for these that enjoy talking and thinking, there was too much punches and gore. If you can take both, you'll love it" And I absolutely loved it. Whenever someone's criticizing it, I find myself thinking "wait, these were the things I liked about that!" I even read the original comic afterwards, and was impressed by how well it adapted the source material. Basically, the only major changes I can recall were Veidt's plan, and in my opinion it actually started making somewhat more sense in the movie, and Manhattan annihilating Rorschach in front of everyone, which I guess makes sense too.

    -Black Cauldron:
It's dark and has a unique atmosphere no other Disney movie has. So sad it bombed at the box office :(
    -Phantom Menace:
I find it to be the best Star wars movie. The fights scenes were one of the best. Darth Maul was great, Lima Neeson was in it, etc. And as for the Jar Jar complaining, I feel that people are overeating. He's barely part of the movie he's like a 5%. He's like that squirrel from Ice Age. And honestly he never bothered me to much...barely noticed him.
    -Temple of Doom:
Most criticism comes from Willie being annoying. I found her to be good comic relief. To me it's the best and most memorable Indianan Jones movie.

    9. Batman Forever-I actually like Jim Carrey's the Riddler, and used to watch in endlessly as a child. Still enjoy it.
    8. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-not as good as the original of course, but not awful. just unneeded.
    7. How to lose a guy in 10 days-watch it with my mother on occasion. it's kinda stupid but sweet and has some good laughs.
    6. The Day After Tomorrow-just like this movie. It's fun.
    5. all POTC movies-I own them all, and like them all, though the fourth was obviously not as good. I'll probs go see the 5th.
    4. Jim Carrey's the Grinch-LOVE this movie, watch it every Christmas w/ fam and friends. Don't get the hate.
    3. Star Wars prequels-No, they're not as good as the original, but I enjoy them. I do find some of the dialogue corny, but they don't deserve the hate they get imo.
    2. The Hobbit Trilogy-Lots of people disliked these, esp. BOT5A, but I enjoy all of them. Just bought the third one :D

I've always hated the "fate" trope. It's the most boring and uninspired motivation characters could have. There are some stories that do interesting things with them, like the aforementioned Unbreakable (whether it was intended or not). But most of the time a character's destiny is laid out in an old book or the theme is how everything had PURPOSE all along or something else groan-worthy, a potentially interesting story is made moot. Why should we care at all what happens, if it was always meant to be?
Some, like Harry Potter, manage to inverse this trope in an interesting way. The only reason Harry was destined to be the one to beat Voldemort was because Voldemort himself believed so and chose to act on it. It could've just as well been Neville.

I’m not sure if I’m in the majority or minority here, but I personally really loved the Dreamworks film “Rise of the Guardians”. Yeah there are a couple of plot holes, but the story for the most part is interesting. The visuals are just gorgeous in this movie, and I really liked the redesigns of classic children’s myths like Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy (seriously, Tooth is gorgeous!). Granted it’s still a tad weird hearing Hugh Jackman’s voice coming out of the Easter Bunny, but he’s still pretty cool. My favorite character, of course, is Jack Frost; Chris Pine did a great job with him, and I really got invested in his background and him trying to figure out why he became what he is. I also was interested in how the world of the Guardians worked, how each Guardian protected children in a different way, like how North (aka Santa) protected a child’s sense of wonder and how the Sandman ensured that children had sweet dreams and stuff like that. Oh, and Jude Law as the villain was waaay too much fun, I loved him! He could get a bit hammy, but you could tell he was enjoying himself ^^
I know “Rise of the Guardians” isn’t one of Dreamworks’ greatest works ever like How to Train Your Dragon or Shrek 2, but I still love it and I wish people would talk about it more.
