The Mossberg 20 gauge was my first gun. I got it in the early 70's. Yes it was purchased at SEARS Catalog shop in a small town.
I'm considering picking one up. I just need to decide if I want to hunt again.

Nothing to decide brother if you want to hunt again go hunting there’s nothing wrong with hunting been doing it since I was five years old and I will do it until I’m dead or can’t walk and then I will pay someone to put me in a stand🤣

Have the same gun. Very accurate with just the iron sights. Takes 2 3/4 slugs but you can single load 3 inch cartridges. Enjoy target shooting with deer slugs, but can't find them these days. Bought it for $125 about 3 years ago.

I'd like to see how you load it and how you fire it. I have one of these that I got from my grandfather but I've never used it. I think it's time that I learn.

Open the bolt throw one in the chamber. Put it on safe drop the mag load 2 more and slap it back in. And your ready to go. No steel shot! Full choke for bird, Improved chamber for deer slug. Damn good hunting gun from Squirrel to pheasant to deer. Cleaned and oiled right it's a cheap but fun shotgun that can do it all. Accurate and well built! I love mine also a 20g, Dad gave it to me. It's a grab shells and go gun. Works best as is, In good condition. Doesn't take much range time some like to add a recoil pad. They were built for one reason only, That was to put meat on the table, And they do it very well. As a side note. The stock is walnut that is oil treated. Hoppe's #9 gun oil can pertly it up a bit. Just clean and reoil it lightly. Have fun at the range.

I picked up a 12 guage for $125 with a 18 inch barrel. Three rounds adequate for home defense if you run out it becomes a melee weapon. Try swinging a plastic pump by the barrel.

I have the 16 ga. version of that shotgun. Mine is a Revelation made by Mossberg for Western Auto. I got mine for Christmas at 12. I had used a Mossberg 410 bolt action prior and I had always liked bolt action rifles so I asked for a bolt action 16 for Christmas. The finish on the gun is a pretty reddish brown that is a little faded from displaying it on a wall rack for about 10 years and it gave it a nice aged appearance. (I keep it in a case now)I wish I could find a four round mag for it but they don’t exist.

I got my nephews matching bolt action shotguns, a 190C (16 gauge) and a 185D-B (20 gauge). They're valuable to them!

I hear they stopped making them when pump guns got cheaper.
Now if they had made 'em a straight pull bolt action I bet they'd still be around.

I shot my buddies on Saturday. I think the biggest aid to their accuracy is how light they are. I could easily correct my aim when shooting clays.

That is true when I use mine for small game I find it easier to swing and follow through on shots, lighter than your average pump.

@@davidkermes393 And then you look up the vintage sales ADs on these old shotguns (the 85D and 185D at least), and they say detachable “clip magazine”. Just google "Mossberg 185D print AD", and you can find them pretty easily.
