If there's one thing the Mega Drive does have is such a crisp resolution. The Snes has more colours on screen but it always looks blurry.

Why do enemies appearing from the door use dither instead of changing its palette like the arcade? The colors are shared with player or all other enemies of sametype, I suppose?
(just wondering, not a critique).

There simply aren't enough palettes for this. Mega Drive have only 4 of them for everything (including the background). The number of palettes is perhaps the weakest point of the MD, for example, the weaker PC Engine console released two years earlier had 32 palettes (16 palettees for sprites, 16 palettes for backgrounds and also 16-color in each like on MD ).
