    Awesome work! My dream house has awkward windows! Just want to patch a few! This was super simple to understand. I’m confident my husband and I can do this!

      @@alwayslearningdiy Update:
      I did it!! Mission accomplished and much thanks to your video. It gave me the confidence to try.
      Windows removed (all 3) no broken glass.
      You did make it look easier but only because you knew what you were doing. So I forgive you for that :)
      Thank you!

      @@charlie14459 Nice Job
      Actually that was my first one. It was easy because the window wasn’t nailed in. Wind was blowing it in and out. Great job,
      Proud of you for not being afraid to fail. Love it.

    Nice work! I have to do a similar job soon where previous home owner had a window shaker A/C unit installed right through into the master bedroom..and then vinyl sided around it.

    Thank you!!! We have an external window hidden inside of our walls (done by previous owner) and we need to remove it before getting vinyl siding installed. I love the demonstration and explanation.

    Thank you so much! You made this so simple and to the point. No confusion from a woman who has done a little bit of house work, put toilets in, bathroom sinks and laminate flooring, etc. I was afraid to leave a window in my house/kitchen and just cover over it in case anyone ever went to saw or work on that area and get serious hurt years from now, from the glass.so if anyone knows anything that could help me even more? My window is in my kitchen and I have no way to extend my cabinets or counter top. On the other side of the window is a 3 season room that’s very nice, no leaks or anything. So do I have to worry about tyvec or waterproofing or just caulk very well, insulate, plywood on outer side and Sheetrock on inside? It’s 36” wide 64” long. I hate the window and don’t want to pay a contractor tons of money if I can do it myself and it looks fairly simple for a person with a little house work experience?

    • @alwayslearningdiy

      You definitely can. We just put it back in the same condition with the rest of the house. Thanks for the question

    I have ceiling to floor windows that I am not a fan of. I would like to have normal size but if need be will do away with them. Thank you for this.

    • @alwayslearningdiy
      @alwayslearningdiy  5 місяців тому +1

      You could just take out the windows. Reframe the wooden studs to compensate for the smaller windows sheet rock the interior. Put plywood over the exterior and put siding to cover the remaining exposed area.

    I wish someone would make a video on how to do this but only the bottom half of the window. The house my wife and I want has a huge kitchen window, we want to just basically do this to the bottom half but keep the top half of the window

      @debbiet243 3 місяці тому

      Same situation at our house. We want to put built in shelves around the fireplace. We have the huge window with a small on on top. It would make it so much nicer if we didn’t have to go around the windows. I’m a little surprised they didn’t put wrapping on before putting the siding back on in this video.

    Do you need any flashing on this? I have a window that is being removed like this but unlike the location of yours, ours is in the middle of a long wall. Not sure if that will make a difference.

    Hi! I am doing this in a room in my home, not bathroom. Then want to hang a tv. Would the last step for me be adding a piece of drywall and then taping? Spackling? Smoothing and paint? Thank u!

    • @alwayslearningdiy
      @alwayslearningdiy  Рік тому

      Yes, that is all they do when they are building a house. While the wall is opened up it’s a good time to add electrical and run cable(unless you are just going to stream) Also a good time to run conduit behind the wall if you want to hide the cords going down the wall. You might also check out the video on a cheap tv mount using just a piece of 2 x 4 for a French cleat. It’s sturdy movable and in expensive

    I didn’t you use a Tyvek or black tar paper? I put on LP smart siding and I used Tyvek. And 1/2” foil face insulation board then 3” Rockwool R15 for insulation.

    How much did this cost I know it varies for different window sizes and materials but knowing would help me get some idea

    • @alwayslearningdiy
      @alwayslearningdiy  Рік тому +1

      We had about $100 in siding 7 pieces, $20 for 4 -2x4x8, $25 for a piece of 4x8 plywood, and $25 for a couple rolls of insulation. So around $200

    Is the outside weatherproof? It seems like water could easily get into the cracks where the new ply wood was added. I have no knowledge when it comes to this stuff. I plan on doing this one day so I was curious.

    • @alwayslearningdiy

      You can wrap it in TveK for another layer of protection. This house was built in the 90s. TveK wasn’t used then. We finished it how the rest of the house was finished with no wrapping.
      The water will run down thw overlapping siding. The bottom edge is not caulked so if a small amount of moisture gets behind the siding it can evaporate

    Why nail the siding at the bottom?

  • @laurabradley8316

    Rough estimate of cost?!? I have the exact problem in my kitchen and need to replace a window with a wall to create space for more cabinets

    • @alwayslearningdiy
      @alwayslearningdiy  6 місяців тому

      $15 for each 12 foot piece of siding then $15 for every 4x8 sheet of OSB at lowes
      Sheet rock 4x8 is about $12 a sheet for inside and some 8x2x4s
      Lumber $5 a stick

    Do you typically need a permit to do something like this if owner ever wanted to sell?

    • @alwayslearningdiy
      @alwayslearningdiy  Рік тому

      Most city ordinances require you to get a permit but most homeowners don’t. When selling you typically just disclose of any issue you had with rot or water damage. Even then you would disclose what the problem was and whether it was fixed or not.
      If you do a good job it should look like the house was originally built without a window there.

    Don’t you need to wrap it before adding siding?

    • @alwayslearningdiy
      @alwayslearningdiy  7 місяців тому

      Yes you can wrap it. It’s another layer of protection. New houses are wrapped. This house was not wrapped when it was built. So we just kept it consistent.

    • @alwayslearningdiy
      @alwayslearningdiy  8 місяців тому

      You just pry the window out.
      You may need to cut off the nails that hold the window in
