    How to remove a window in a stucco wall.
    Howdy, guys, and you gals, too. This video explains removing an old window and adding some new studs. After this, we waterproof and install stucco wire. Lastly, we apply two coats of stucco with a smooth finish to match the original.
    Folks, for immediate bids, send pictures to me or Jason.

    We used Luminite or calcium aluminate cement additive to quicken the stucco cure time.
    Luminite is a concrete and stucco accelerator.
    Instead of waiting 48 hours for the scratch to cure, it took 5 minutes. I added calcium aluminate cement to the brown coat to float it all in 20 minutes.
    This additive does not compromise the strength of the stucco.

    Possibly, for each house the walls may be a bit different depending on how it was built. Some walls have just studs while others have a solid wood backing on the studs. However, the paper, wire and two coats of stucco are very common. Best wishes, on your repairs.

    Dear Kirk,
    In your previous videos I saw you putting playwood before the water proof paper, why you didn't put in this video? Just curious and please keep up the good work

      Good Morning Tani, this home did not have plywood to begin with, so if I added plywood there would have been no room for the stucco,
      Plywwood didnt becom a code requirement untill about 50 years ago.

    Hi, Awesome video. I am removing a window and need to stucco the void. This side of the house gets a lot of water from wind and rain. Do I need something firm under the paper and wire? ie sheetrock or denseglass?

      Hello Mr. Tong, that depends on if your house has a sheer wall, plywood or solid substrate over the studs. If so match that substrate. Most stucco homes before 1980 were stuccoed over just the studs like this one, thus no sheathing was necessary. Cheers

    Im looking to do this exact same project on what looks like the same exact window. So after u put studs u put the paper directly on studs with no plywood or other type of board?

      Good morning Me foo dude. Depends if the house. When I started lathing and plastering, there was no plywood necessary for the exterior walls. In around 1980, a new code came into play that said all exterior walls must now have plywood on them. We, as lather plasterers, love this new code.
      So if your house has the plywood, then it will be necessary to reinstall after adding studs. If not, like this older home, you have to stretch the paper tight so that all the mud does not fall between the studs.
      Or buy the paperbacked stucco netting if it's still sold.

    Did you put plywood on the studs before you put the tarpaper and screen on?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Jessy, No, we did not as it would be made the wall surface too thick, If one starts out with a stud wall, as a rule, you use the same paperback self-furring paper, then re-stucco. A video just for you, enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/PQ5N69SoAJE/v-deo.html/ 🍾

    Why no plywood to cover studs before black screen paper? Never seen one without it. Do you have site I can go to?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  5 років тому

      Good evening Daniel, too funny, in my day, they didn't use shearwall, we wrapped comple stud homes with paperback stucco netting. It wasn't until 1975 that shearwall or plywood became mandatory.

    How do you d you seal the new paper to the old paper?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  8 років тому

      Morning KeyLime dude, that is often tough, especially when there is no paper left, (Natural time deterioration) or its a stud home, the best a fella can do is try and overlap as much as a stud will allow.
      I have found no existing paper on many homes, where I have to tell home owners there is no paper left, so either we remove the entire wall to provide a warranty, or you accept this fact as we are only as good as what we have to work with, however, I also add that if there is compromised paper, a person is wise to purchase the best exterior primer and paint available.
      Cheers!

      @@taicronck9559 We have several that do include all the steps, most folks should understand we’re plasterers first and often stucco waits for no man. Meaning it’s more important for us to complete our work properly than include all the steps.
