Was in Edinburgh the week before this on paddies day for a shtag, the pub next to biddy mulligans, Maggie Dicksons think it was, was half pouring guinness straight down and not holding the glass, poured to halfway and then when topping up was letting the pint over flow like it was lager and then placing it on the counter. The giving out we did, don't think she was too impressed but to be fair, she was destroying pint after pint, bad day for the parish all round.
I spent the best part of 8 years in Edinburgh, only half decent pints I managed to find were in the Jolly Judge and Deacon Brodie's. Other than that it was pure muck. Great city but not for a pint of Genius. Super upload as ever 👍🏻
Lovely! Brings back great memories. Three lovely pubs I went to in Edinburgh were The Old Bell (the local for the family I was staying with), The Pear Tree (most beautiful pub I've ever seen) and Nichol's Pub (Royal Mile). I tried most of the pints on tap while there, but not Guiness as it's not something I drink often and Staropramen came out best in the Lagers for me (closest to what I drink back here in South Africa), but I really enjoyed the Irish/English ciders the most as we can't get Bulmers/Orchard Thieves etc. here. It's a beautiful city to walk around with mates and visit pubs, so much history and culture. Greets from South Africa.
I'm from England and watch pretty much all of your videos, love the banter you give off even if it's at our expense sometimes, lmao. I don't think it was a matter of no one giving a fuck at the start, it just wasn't being advertised to us by UA-cam I suppose, aha. Keep it up, lad.
Hmmm I’ve spent a fair amount of time tracking down good pints of Guinness near the city centre. It comes down to the day sometimes in Edinburgh, but best pints I’ve had recently have been at Clark’s Bar in New Town, Bonnington Pub on Bonnington road and St Bernard’s in Stockbridge - and they are all pretty central albeit not on the Royal Mile which I’d say avoid like the plague for a decent pint!
Glad you visited brother! Disappointed in the standard, however best pints of the black stuff are often found not in the knock off Irish pubs when it comes to Edinburgh imo. Hope Glasgow does a better job. 🍻
Ah to be fair lad those are fairly poor pub choices, 4 out of the 5 are copy and paste Irish theme pubs. Like going to Dublin for the cream and going to Coppers and Temple Bar.... There's some proper good pints in the real Scottish pubs around the town. Try The Bailie or Kay's bar if you're back again.
I’m from Manchester UK but live in Castlebar County Mayo for da last 5-6 months.Got some pals coming over for a weekend in Westport and looking forward to pints of porter. You’ll have to come wesht again Darragh or go to Manchester my hometown and sample da Guinness in my old local The Bowling Green in Chorlton 👌
Just discovered and love these videos. It really is my best and only drink I have apart from the very occasional Murphys which is hard to get where I live.
Great craic this video D. Laughed out loud 'im not editing this video... What was this pub called.... Brain fart'. Great interaction and commentary on the video lad. Very entertaining
I used to live in Edinburgh, the best pint Ive had was in the Harbour Inn, Newhaven on the shore of the Forth. I generally avoided the centre as it is all for tourist and very little locals, if any, in the pubs.
Places that serve a decent Guinness in Edinburgh are: Theatre Royal (top of Leith Walk), The Broughton (Broughton St), Kays Bar (New Town) & Clarks Bar (Dundas St).
Good to see you in the burgh should have headed down Leith way and you'd have gotten away from all the mad prices, although good to know if I'm in town that place on the grass market is good usually avoid that whole area like the plague ! 👍👍
Guru, should nip across to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne to test the Guinness. Best pint I've had in Newcastle in recent memory is at the Bridge Hotel (opposite the castle). Thick, creamy and the schtick stays all the way down the pint!
Some irish chains in England request each pint has a shamrock, and they some how think its an irish thing, and those chains are owned by english companys
Here lad would you be partial to doing more background on the pubs and the people who run them. Would be nice to see a bit of history behind the bars and owners.
Ryries bar at haymarket is possibly the best I’ve had in my home town Edinburgh. Huge price problem though as it’s £6.50 a Guinness. As for anywhere else the Wetherspoon is pretty good depending on the barman & how busy it is as they don’t have the time to let it settle properly. 👍
A lot of the tourist nonsense there. Few shouts earlier for leith, can be OK but no respect for the pint just thrown in the glass for the docker places. To be honest the inlaws are from Edinburgh and a decent pint of porter is at the Guildford Arms, bit pricey and it's Murphys but solid pint. Would love a few shouts for about leith.
Loads of reasons Americans would drink Guinness in Edinburgh thinking it's basically Ireland. Few companies have offices in the US, likewise a few American companies in Edinburgh. Direct flight from Boston to Edinburgh - to them, this is pretty much Ireland. Many think Ireland is in the UK. To them the distance is nothing so they probably don't expect it to be any different. Obviously many are aware it's not the same, but plenty want a full English and a pint of Guinness in Edinburgh.
Love the city, lived there for 5 years, could count on 1 hand how many pints of Guinness I ordered there, moved back to the promise land where it’s done right!
Should've went to the milnes bar on rose Street. Problem is all the big named bars ain't always the best. Maybe next time you're in Edinburgh check it out 🙂
You're not the only one. Been to Edinburgh three times, and spoons was the best pint. Kitty O'Sheas is just a crap tourist pub, with young one dimensional students working the bar. No craic whatsoever and probably the worst pint I had.
I thought Extra Cold was just a flash cool from cellar/chiller temp rather than a specfic temp? So if it's a warmer cellar than it might be useful, otherwise it's a waste of time and taste. Think England just use to storaging kegs at 3/4 deg then sticking the Extra Cold on for the "marketing". Class videos, looking out for the right temp Guinness in Birmingham
I went to kitty O'Shea's in Edinburgh twice last year and had a above average Guinness but unlike yourself,it wasn't the first pint. Poured on both occasions that day so the Guinness was probably better than you had.
I was in vilamoura recently and went to a pub called o'sheas. I was shocked at how good the stout was. It was actually touch the 8's club even by Irish standards. Better than most Guinness at home. Totally debunked the Guinness doesn't travel myth. Have to say it was busy most nights with a lot of people drinking Guinness.
@@gazo6159You're not kidding there. Was in Eindhoven, Netherlands a couple of summers back and went to the Irish pub to grab a Guinness. It was literally like vinegar. Horrendous and the only time I've asked for my money back!
When you're in the UK next you should try get a pint of Samuel Smith's Extra Stout. It's a keg Nitro Stout sold in Samuel Smith's pubs only. Depends on the city you go to but Sinclair's Oyster Bar in Manchester sells it (which I'd imagine is the next logical city you may visit in the UK, think it's sold in plastic cups there though). Worth a try to see what you think, you may have to film your review in a beer garden lol
Keep up the good work mate, always good to see new content, the Kilkenny one was good all the pints looked banging 🍺🍻

Any pub where they don’t know how to serve beer, let alone Guinness- fuck them, don’t go back

Great timing for this video I'm from Australia heading to Scotland in October this year I had a feeling Edinburgh not really known for Guiness
Finally out of aus! My best mates the same he cannot wait to travel again
Go to Malones or the Royal Oak for a good Guinness in Edinburgh
When are you getting over to Boston to do some pint reviews? Can recommend a few spots

Bailie is lovely but a bit outside. Finns is nice out of the Irish bars, mulligans not that bad.
Kay's is one of my locals, is the Guinness actually good in there? I never see anyone in there drinking it, which is usually a bad sign.
Well said good to know all like templebar so stag pubs
The Baillie is a top bar for pints!
