What will you be switching to? I just bought level 2 for my 1st grader and level 4 for my 5th grader... Both ny kids are good at math but my older son I realized has not taken math seriously for years... In first grade he did an advance math course for gifted students and I think it scared him. He was able to keep up but he was always nervous about it. It created him an attitude of "math is something I can figure out when I need to but I don't need to learn. So somehow he prevents himself from commiting math concepts to long term memory. Every time he does certain operations like big number arithmetic he needs a refresher on how it's done. If he does that same operation for several days in a row he will be ok but if he doesn't for a while we have to go back and re-learn. I'm still trying to figure out what he needs, but I think it's a matter of attitude/mindset and habit. Anyway I thought ML4LE would help review concepts and hopefully re-learn with a better mindset that we're working on. I figured the smaller lesson chunks would be good to gain confidence, practice the habit of attention, and hopefully catch up to his grade level. But for my little one who has breezed through other math curricula in his first homeschool year, I would be curious what you will be moving on to do.

Hello and sorry this comment slipped through the cracks for a bit! We switched to Singapore Dimensions Level 1. My child can have big emotions about math so we are going between Level 1A and Level 1B depending on how his day is going… that’s a huge plus to homeschool for us! We are living Singapore so far. How’s MLFALE going for your children? Did you also get the supplemental workbook?

We used level k and level 1 three yrs ago and moved away from all MB since it didn't work for us for various reasons in multiple subjects. I definitely recommend level 1 for kinder. On the website they recommend it for 5-7yrs and I think that's fair depending on the child. On average, I'd definitely say, in general, kindergarten. Level k definitely fits what a prek kiddo learns. I do not like how they teach place value though. We didnt enjoy it but I think now, being on my fifth yr homeschooling, I would much more confidently be able to teach with MB math if I ever needed it for a child that needed the gentler pace and teach place value my way. I do like their level k and level 1. Above that, I have no experience. We got rid of level 2 quick as I didn't like how they taught place value and was it was diving in more. I actually just ordered level 1 for another kinder kiddo I have though. I think it's great for a gentle intro for kinder kiddos before we switch to our preferred math program that doesn't offer a great math program offline for kinder kids. I couldn't ever not recommend it since I find value in all curricula. It really depends on each kiddo and what their needs are in that moment. It definitely is a great option for the families that need it. I'm thankful for it as it fills in nicely where I need it to this year. I hope y'all have a great year!

Great thoughts! I agree it’s gentle and quick for those younger children to get them familiar with math concepts. Thank you for your kind comments!!!

Yeah definitely level up in math. I have been reviewing the samples for all their subjects for Kindergarten and I will definitely be ordering the Level 1 math alongside the Kindergarten level for the rest of the subject’s. When it comes to math it seems to depend on the curriculum as to what level a child is considered. If we were to do Horizons, we would be using the Kindergarten level for math, but with these books we definitely need what is considered grade 1 math. Thank you for the informative video. This just confirmed what I already had in mind as to which books to buy. By the way, I’m new to using this curriculum and i see they have math, science, and social studies, but do they have a language arts/ phonics book? Im confused on that. I don’t understand what the Simply book series is about. Just wondering if you knew.

So glad you enjoyed and found this video helpful! They do have a language arts program called Language Lessons for a Living Education, but I’m not sure what the scope and sequence entails 😊

Just be careful leveling up on this math too soon. When we hit level 3 my oldest wasn't ready (because I started her in level 1 at 4 1/2), and in hindsight I should have kept her in her grade level and then she would have developmentally been ready for the level. (This is our 7th year homeschooling this year with 4 kids!)
Yes they have a LA curriculum. You do the Simply K book, and then move onto Language Lessons for a Living Education level 1 after, when they're ready!

How many lessons are there in all? We do Christian light education math and we move it but I think it’s a lot, even though it’s not at the same time. 😅 does she need to know how to add and count by 2’s to go this?

Hi there! There are 180 lessons total. This curriculum teaches adding and skip counting by 2's so she wouldn't need to know how to do those to start the curriculum 😊 Hope that helps!
