Thank you for the book recommendations. I just finished Mathematical Mindsets and started Make it Stick. I’m now using Jo Boaler’s supplemental math curriculum in addition to Kindergarten Math with Confidence. You have been extremely helpful!
This review was exactly what I was looking for and so well done. Thank you! I really appreciated being able to clearly see the lessons inside the book and the content review.
How would you compare this to Singapore? Ive been looking into MWC vs Singapore (probably Dimensions...but still undecided). Which would you recommend? My daughter will be going into 1st grade. She hasnt had any math struggles and seems to be grasping math well so far. I love the hands on and games aspect in MWC and the ease to implement it. Im not sure if Singapore would be a more solid program in terms of mental math and number sense? Im okay with the slower pace in MWC, I just want to make sure we're still getting the solid foundation in number sense and mental math though. Thanks!
Best review ever! Thank you so much I was so stuck on which level to get my advanced daughter after moving from primer/ alpha and I believe by the way this looks level first grade will be best. I do see yall go over time / calendar in unit 23.1 where kinder they over it much sooner. We are still Mastering calendar and how to read a clock with hands! ( she can tell time with digital ) but gets little confused still with the clock with hands. ( we do have a learning resource clock ) so we just practice. That’s great y’all review it so we can re learn how to do time/ calendar! Thank you so much for this review it definitely made it easier to choose which level was best for us! I love a spiral learning curriculum after leaving a master bound curriculum. :
Do you recommend anything else from the Well Trained Mind? Thoughts on writing with ease and first language lessons? Wondering what I should grab during their Summer Sale.
We are currently using TGTB but it's becoming increasingly annoying as it moves at a faster pace and I feel my child isn't ready for all that.. this seems like a much better alternative.. I just wanted to know if the instructor's guide is a must have or we can do without it? Thank you for the review it was really helpful
We are using the kindergarten curriculum this year and in my opinion, you definitely need the instructor's guide in order to get the most out of it. There is a lot of great content between the lessons, games, and activities that are included and these are not included in the workbook alone.
Hey, so anyone who has a kiddo struggling with math - MWC is my go-to recommendation. I have more on math over on my website here: www.homespunchildhood.com/math
I really struggled with this because my child didn’t understand some of the phrasing and it doesn’t come with “scripts” of exactly how to explain things like Saxon. He just didn’t get “five and some more”. I was a math major but terrible at explaining things. If anyone has any tips I would love it because it’s so affordable.
Any time my child does not understand the language like "five and some more" I find synonyms to get them to understand. Once the concept is understood then I use my language with Kate Snows language. Until I am able to use Snows language without my own. For example "2 is Greater than zero" I had to say "2 is Bigger than zero" for a bit until my child connected Greater and Bigger as synonyms. =] Now we say Greater when comparing numbers. So just figure out what words would help your child understand than incorporate the math language later. HOPE this helps. HAPPY TEACHING
Yes without the instructor guide you have no math program. The instructor guide is the curriculum the student book is for the child to practice the lessons taught. It would be a very empty math lesson with out the instructor guide.
It depends on the age of the student. If you have a student 6+, then yes, they should be ok. MWC 1 really focuses on developing a strong number sense and mastering math facts. However, I wouldn't recommend this for a younger student (pre-k or kinder) in most situations.
Thanks for the review 🎉 I’m also a teacher turned homeschooler and have been considering this for my special needs son and my advanced son.

What a great line up you have!

This was the best review I’ve ever seen on this curriculum.
Oh gosh, thanks!
Thanks for sharing. I am thinking of switching for my son we currently use the good and the beautiful
I think you will find your child has better retention using MWC and a deeper conceptual understanding of the concepts. :)

Did you do MUS?

@@jenmorris917 thanks a lot 👍
Definitely have to have the instructors guide for MWC.
Thank you!
What are your thoughts on Math With Confidence vs Singapore? We have a first grader who has struggled with Math!

How old is your child? I recommend using manipulatives for anything they are not understanding with language/wording alone.
Are the picture books and math kit included?
No they are not.
Love this, Sarah!
Thanks!
Should I buy the instructor guide?
Yes you have too

Yes, you need the instructor guide.
Will this be okay if she doesn’t know how to add or skip count?
